Genesis 12
1 For the Lord had said vnto Abram, Get thee out of thy countrey, and from thy kindred, and from thy fathers house vnto the land that I will shewe thee.
«Vàttene dal tuo paese, dalla tua patria e dalla casa di tuo padre, verso il paese che io ti indicherò. Il Signore disse ad Abram:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and will blesse thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing.
Farò di te un grande popolo e ti benedirò, renderò grande il tuo nome e diventerai una benedizione.
3 I will also blesse them that blesse thee, and curse them that curse thee, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Benedirò coloro che ti benediranno e coloro che ti malediranno maledirò e in te si diranno benedette tutte le famiglie della terra».
4 So Abram departed, euen as ye Lord spake vnto him, and Lot went with him. (And Abram was seuentie and fiue yeere olde, when he departed out of Haran)
Allora Abram partì, come gli aveva ordinato il Signore, e con lui partì Lot. Abram aveva settantacinque anni quando lasciò Carran.
5 Then Abram tooke Sarai his wife, and Lot his brothers sonne, and all their substance that they possessed, and the soules that they had gotten in Haran, and they departed, to goe to the land of Canaan: and to the land of Canaan they came.
Abram dunque prese la moglie Sarai, e Lot, figlio di suo fratello, e tutti i beni che avevano acquistati in Carran e tutte le persone che lì si erano procurate e si incamminarono verso il paese di Canaan. Arrivarono al paese di Canaan
6 So Abram passed through the land vnto the place of Shechem, and vnto the plaine of Moreh (and the Canaanite was then in ye land)
e Abram attraversò il paese fino alla località di Sichem, presso la Quercia di More. Nel paese si trovavano allora i Cananei.
7 And the Lord appeared vnto Abram, and said, Vnto thy seede will I giue this land. And there builded he an altar vnto the Lord, which appeared vnto him.
Il Signore apparve ad Abram e gli disse: «Alla tua discendenza io darò questo paese». Allora Abram costruì in quel posto un altare al Signore che gli era apparso.
8 Afterward remouing thence vnto a moutaine Eastward from Beth-el, he pitched his tent hauing Beth-el on the Westside, and Haai on the East: and there he built an altar vnto the Lord, and called on the Name of the Lord.
Di là passò sulle montagne a oriente di Betel e piantò la tenda, avendo Betel ad occidente e Ai ad oriente. Lì costruì un altare al Signore e invocò il nome del Signore.
9 Againe Abram went forth going and iourneying toward the South.
Poi Abram levò la tenda per accamparsi nel Negheb.
10 Then there came a famine in the land: therefore Abram went downe into Egypt to soiourne there: for there was a great famine in the lande.
Venne una carestia nel paese e Abram scese in Egitto per soggiornarvi, perché la carestia gravava sul paese.
11 And when he drewe neere to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, Beholde nowe, I know that thou art a faire woman to looke vpon:
Ma, quando fu sul punto di entrare in Egitto, disse alla moglie Sarai: «Vedi, io so che tu sei donna di aspetto avvenente.
12 Therefore it will come to passe, that when the Egyptians see thee, they will say, She is his wife: so will they kill me, but they will keepe thee aliue.
Quando gli Egiziani ti vedranno, penseranno: Costei è sua moglie, e mi uccideranno, mentre lasceranno te in vita.
13 Say, I pray thee, that thou art my sister, that I may fare well for thy sake, and that my life may be preserued by thee.
Dì dunque che tu sei mia sorella, perché io sia trattato bene per causa tua e io viva per riguardo a te».
14 Nowe when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians behelde the woman: for she was very faire.
Appunto quando Abram arrivò in Egitto, gli Egiziani videro che la donna era molto avvenente.
15 And the Princes of Pharaoh sawe her, and commended her vnto Pharaoh: so the woman was taken into Pharaohs house:
La osservarono gli ufficiali del faraone e ne fecero le lodi al faraone; così la donna fu presa e condotta nella casa del faraone.
16 Who intreated Abram well for her sake, and he had sheepe, and beeues, and hee asses, and men seruants and maide seruants, and shee asses, and camelles.
Per riguardo a lei, egli trattò bene Abram, che ricevette greggi e armenti e asini, schiavi e schiave, asine e cammelli.
17 But the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues, because of Sarai Abrams wife.
Ma il Signore colpì il faraone e la sua casa con grandi piaghe, per il fatto di Sarai, moglie di Abram.
18 Then Pharaoh called Abram, and saide, Why hast thou done this vnto me? Wherefore diddest thou not tell me, that she was thy wife?
Allora il faraone convocò Abram e gli disse: «Che mi hai fatto? Perché non mi hai dichiarato che era tua moglie?
19 Why saidest thou, She is my sister, that I should take her to be my wife? Nowe therefore beholde thy wife, take her and goe thy way.
Perché hai detto: E' mia sorella, così che io me la sono presa in moglie? E ora eccoti tua moglie: prendila e vàttene!».
20 And Pharaoh gaue men commandement concerning him: and they conueyed him forth, and his wife, and all that he had.
Poi il faraone lo affidò ad alcuni uomini che lo accompagnarono fuori della frontiera insieme con la moglie e tutti i suoi averi.
