Ezra 5

1 Then Haggai a Prophet and Zechariah the sonne of Iddo a Prophet prophecied vnto the Iewes that were in Iudah, and Ierusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, euen vnto them.

Men profeten Haggai och Sakarja, Iddos son, profeterna, profeterade för judarna i Juda och Jerusalem, i Israels Guds namn, efter vilket de voro uppkallade.

2 Then Zerubbabel the sonne of Shealtiel, and Ieshua the sonne of Iozadak arose, and began to builde the house of God at Ierusalem, and with them were the Prophetes of God, which helped them.

Och Serubbabel, Sealtiels son, och Jesua, Josadaks son, stodo då upp och begynte bygga på Guds hus i Jerusalem, och med dem Guds profeter, som understödde dem.

3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, which was captaine beyonde the Riuer, and Shether-boznai and their companions, and sayd thus vnto them, Who hath giuen you commandement to buylde this house, and to lay the foundations of these walles?

Vid samma tid kommo till dem Tattenai, ståthållaren i landet på andra sidan floden, och Setar-Bosenai och dessas medbröder, och sade så till dem: »Vem har givit eder tillåtelse att bygga detta hus och att sätta denna mur i stånd?»

4 Then sayde we vnto them after this maner, What are the names of the men that buylde this buylding?

Då sade vi dem vad de män hette, som uppförde byggnaden.

5 But the eye of their God was vpon the Elders of the Iewes, that they coulde not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they answered by letters thereunto.

Och över judarnas äldste vakade deras Guds öga, så att man lovade att icke lägga något hinder i vägen för dem, till dess saken hade kommit inför Darejaves; sedan skulle man sända dem en skrivelse härom.

6 The copie of the letter, that Tatnai captaine beyond the Riuer, and Shether-boznai and his companions, Apharsechaie, (which were beyond the Riuer) sent vnto King Darius.

Detta är nu vad som stod skrivet i det brev som Tattenai, ståthållaren i landet på andra sidan floden, och Setar-Bosenai och hans medbröder, afarsekiterna, som bodde på andra sidan floden, sände till konung Darejaves;

7 They sent a letter vnto him, wherein it was written thus, VNTO DARIVS the king, all peace.

de sände nämligen till honom en berättelse, och däri var så skrivet: »Frid vare i allo med konung Darejaves.

8 Be it knowen vnto the King, that we went into the prouince of Iudea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and beames are layde in the walles, and this worke is wrought speedily, and prospereth in their hands.

Det vare veterligt för konungen att vi kommo till det judiska hövdingdömet, till den store Gudens hus. Detta håller man nu på att bygga upp med stora stenar, och i väggarna lägger man in trävirke; och arbetet bedrives med omsorg och har god framgång under deras händer.

9 Then asked we those Elders, and sayd vnto them thus, Who hath giuen you commandement to buylde this house, and to lay the foundation of these walles?

Då frågade vi de äldste där och sade till dem så: 'Vem har givit eder tillåtelse att bygga detta hus och att sätta denna mur i stånd?'

10 We asked their names also, that we might certifie thee, and that we might write the names of the men that were their rulers.

Vi frågade dem ock huru de hette, för att kunna underrätta dig därom, och för att teckna upp namnen på de män som stodo i spetsen för dem.

11 But they answered vs thus, and sayd, We are the seruants of the God of heauen and earth, and buylde the house that was buylt of olde and many yeeres ago, which a great King of Israel builded, and founded it.

Och detta var det svar som de gåvo oss: 'Vi äro himmelens och jordens Guds tjänare, och vi bygga nu upp det hus som fordom, för många år sedan, var uppbyggt här, och som en stor konung i Israel hade byggt och fulländat.

12 But after that our fathers had prouoked the God of heauen vnto wrath, he gaue them ouer into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar King of Babel the Caldean, and he destroyed this house, and caryed the people away captiue vnto Babel.

Men eftersom våra fäder förtörnade himmelens Gud, gav han dem i kaldéen Nebukadnessars, den babyloniske konungens, hand; och han förstörde detta hus och förde folket bort till Babel.

13 But in the first yere of Cyrus King of Babel, King Cyrus made a decree to buylde this house of God.

Men i den babyloniske konungen Kores' första regeringsår gav konung Kores befallning att man åter skulle bygga upp detta Guds hus.

14 And the vessels of golde and siluer of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar tooke out of the Temple, that was in Ierusalem, and brought them into the Temple of Babel, those did Cyrus the king take out of the Temple of Babel, and they gaue them vnto one Sheshbazzar by his name, whome he had made captaine.

Och tillika tog konung Kores ur templet i Babel de kärl av guld och silver, som hade tillhört Guds hus, men som Nebukadnessar hade tagit ur templet i Jerusalem och fört till templet i Babel; och de överlämnades åt en man vid namn Sesbassar, som han hade satt till ståthållare.

15 And he sayde vnto him, Take these vessels and goe thy way, and put them in the Temple that is in Ierusalem, and let the house of God be buylt in his place.

Och till honom sade han: Tag dessa kärl och far åstad och sätt in dem i templet i Jerusalem; ty Guds hus skall åter byggas upp på sin plats.

16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar and layde the foundation of the house of God, which is in Ierusalem, and since that time euen vntill nowe, hath it bene in buylding, yet is it not finished.

Så kom då denne Sesbassar hit och lade grunden till Guds hus i Jerusalem. Och från den tiden och intill nu har man byggt därpå, och det är ännu icke färdigt.'

17 Nowe therefore if it please the King, let there be searche made in the house of the Kings treasures, which is there in Babel, whether a decree hath bene made by King Cyrus, to build this house of God in Ierusalem, and let the King send his minde concerning this.

Om det nu täckes konungen, må man göra efterforskningar i konungens skattkammare därborta i Babel om det är så, att konung Kores har givit tillåtelse att bygga detta Guds hus i Jerusalem; därefter må konungen meddela oss sin vilja härom.»
