Ezekiel 18

1 The worde of the Lord came vnto me againe, saying,

LA parola del Signore mi fu ancora [indirizzata], dicendo:

2 What meane ye that ye speake this prouerbe, concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers haue eaten sowre grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge?

Che [volete dir] voi, che usate questo proverbio intorno alla terra d'Israele, dicendo: I padri han mangiato l'agresto, e i denti de' figliuoli [ne] sono allegati?

3 As I liue, sayth the Lord God, ye shall vse this prouerbe no more in Israel.

[Come] io vivo, dice il Signore Iddio, voi non avrete più [cagione] d'usar questo proverbio in Israele.

4 Beholde, all soules are mine, both the soule of the father, and also the soule of the sonne are mine: the soule that sinneth, it shall die.

Ecco, tutte le anime son mie; siccome l'anima del padre, così ancora l'anima del figliuolo, [è] mia; l'anima che avrà peccato, quella morrà.

5 But if a man be iust, and doe that which is lawfull, and right,

Ma l'uomo che sarà giusto, e farà giudicio, e giustizia;

6 And hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbours wife, neither hath lyen with a menstruous woman,

e che non avrà mangiato sopra i monti, e non avrà levati gli occhi agl'idoli della casa d'Israele, e non avrà contaminata la moglie del suo prossimo, e non si sarà accostato a donna mentre è appartata;

7 Neither hath oppressed any, but hath restored the pledge to his dettour: he that hath spoyled none by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,

e non avrà oppressato alcuno, [ed] avrà renduto il pegno al debitore, e non avrà fatta rapina; [ed] avrà dato del suo pane a colui che ha fame, e avrà ricoperto di vestimento l'ignudo;

8 And hath not giuen foorth vpon vsurie, neither hath taken any increase, but hath withdrawen his hand from iniquitie, and hath executed true iudgement betweene man and man,

[e] non avrà prestato ad usura, e non avrà preso vantaggio; [ed] avrà ritratta la man sua d'iniquità, [ed] avrà fatto leal giudicio tra un uomo e l'altro;

9 And hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my iudgements to deale truely, he is iust, he shall surely liue, sayth the Lord God.

[e] sarà camminato ne' miei statuti, ed avrà osservate le mie leggi, per fare opere di lealtà e di verità; un tale [è] giusto; di certo egli viverà, dice il Signore Iddio.

10 If he beget a sonne, that is a thiefe, or a sheader of blood, if he do any one of these things,

Ma se egli genera un figliuolo, [che sia] ladrone, che spanda il sangue, o faccia qualche cosa simigliante all'una di quelle;

11 Though he doe not all these things, but either hath eaten vpon the mountaines, or defiled his neighbours wife,

e non faccia tutte le cose suddette; anzi, e mangi sopra i monti, e contamini la moglie del suo prossimo;

12 Or hath oppressed the poore and needy, or hath spoyled by violence, or hath not restored the pledge, or hath lift vp his eyes vnto the idoles, or hath committed abomination,

[ed] oppressi il povero, e il bisognoso, [e] faccia rapine, [e] non renda il pegno, e levi gli occhi agl'idoli, [e] commetta abbominazione;

13 Or hath giuen forth vpon vsurie, or hath taken increase, shall he liue? he shall not liue: seeing he hath done all these abominations, he shall die the death, and his blood shall be vpon him.

[e] presti ad usura, e prenda vantaggio; viverà egli? egli non viverà; egli ha fatte tutte queste cose abbominevoli; egli di certo sarà fatto morire; il suo sangue sarà sopra lui.

14 But if he beget a sonne, that seeth all his fathers sinnes, which he hath done, and feareth, neither doeth such like,

Ma ecco, se egli genera un figliuolo, il quale, avendo veduti tutti i peccati di suo padre, ch'egli avrà commessi, vi ponga mente, e non faccia cotali cose;

15 That hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idols of ye house of Israel, nor hath defiled his neighbours wife,

[e] non mangi sopra i monti, e non levi gli occhi agl'idoli della casa d'Israele, [e] non contamini la moglie del suo prossimo;

16 Neither hath oppressed any, nor hath withholden the pledge, neither hath spoyled by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,

[e] non oppressi alcuno, [e] non prenda pegno, e non faccia rapine, [e] dia del suo pane a colui che ha fame, e ricopra di vestimento l'ignudo;

17 Neither hath withdrawen his hand from the afflicted, nor receiued vsurie nor increase, but hath executed my iudgements, and hath walked in my statutes, he shall not die in the iniquitie of his father, but he shall surely liue.

[e] ritragga la sua mano dal povero, [e] non prenda nè usura, nè vantaggio, [e] metta ad effetto le mie leggi, [e] cammini ne' miei statuti; esso non morrà per l'iniquità di suo padre; di certo egli viverà.

18 His father, because he cruelly oppressed and spoyled his brother by violence, and hath not done good among his people, loe, euen he dyeth in his iniquitie.

Quant'è a suo padre, perchè avrà usate oppressioni, [ed] avrà fatta rapina al suo fratello, e avrà fatto ciò che non [è] bene in mezzo de' suoi popoli; ecco, egli morrà per la sua iniquità.

19 Yet say ye, Wherefore shall not the sonne beare the iniquitie of the father? because ye sonne hath executed iudgement and iustice, and hath kept all my statutes, and done them, he shall surely liue,

E [se pur] dite: Perchè non porta quel figliuolo l'iniquità del padre? Perciocchè quel figliuolo ha fatto giudicio e giustizia, [ed] ha osservati tutti i miei statuti, e li ha messi ad effetto; di certo egli viverà.

20 The same soule that sinneth, shall die: the sonne shall not beare the iniquitie of the father, neither shall the father beare the iniquitie of the sonne, but the righteousnes of the righteous shall be vpon him, and the wickednesse of the wicked shall be vpon him selfe.

La persona che avrà peccato, quella morrà; il figliuolo non porterà l'iniquità del padre, nè il padre l'iniquità del figliuolo; la giustizia del giusto sarà sopra lui, e l'empietà dell'empio [altresì] sarà sopra lui.

21 But if the wicked will returne from all his sinnes that he hath committed, and keepe all my statutes, and doe that which is lawfull and right, he shall surely liue, and shall not die.

E quando l'empio si ritrarrà da tutti i suoi peccati, ch'egli avrà commessi; ed osserverà tutti i miei statuti, e farà giudicio e giustizia, egli di certo viverà, egli non morrà.

22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned vnto him, but in his righteousnes that he hath done, he shall liue.

Tutti i suoi misfatti, ch'egli avrà commessi, non gli saranno più rammemorati; egli viverà, per la giustizia ch'egli avrà operata.

23 Haue I any desire that the wicked should die, sayth the Lord God? or shall he not liue, if he returne from his wayes?

Mi diletto io per alcuna maniera nella morte dell'empio? dice il Signore Iddio; non viverà egli, se si converte dalle sue vie?

24 But if the righteous turne away from his righteousnes, and commit iniquitie, and doe according to all the abominations, that the wicked man doeth, shall he liue? all his righteousnes that he hath done, shall not be mentioned: but in his transgression that he hath committed, and in his sinne that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

Se altresì il giusto si ritrae dalla sua giustizia, e commette iniquità, [e] fa secondo tutte le abbominazioni che l'empio commette, viverà egli? tutte le sue giustizie ch'egli avrà operate, non saranno più ricordate; egli morrà per lo suo misfatto, ch'egli avrà commesso, e per lo suo peccato, ch'egli avrà fatto.

25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equall: heare now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?

E direte voi: La via del Signore non è bene addirizzata? Ascoltate ora, o casa d'Israele. Non è la mia via bene addirizzata? [anzi], non [son] le vostre vie [quelle che] non son bene addirizzate?

26 For when a righteous man turneth away from his righteousnes, and committeth iniquitie, he shall euen die for the same, he shall euen die for his iniquitie, that he hath done.

Quando il giusto si ritrarrà dalla sua giustizia, e commetterà iniquità, egli morrà per queste cose; egli morrà per l'iniquità ch'egli avrà commessa.

27 Againe when the wicked turneth away from his wickednes that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawfull and right, he shall saue his soule aliue.

Quando altresì l'empio si ritrarrà dalla sua empietà ch'egli avrà commessa, e farà giudicio, e giustizia, egli farà vivere l'anima sua.

28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that hee hath committed, he shall surely liue and shall not die.

Se dunque egli prende guardia, e si ritrae da tutti i suoi misfatti ch'egli avrà commessi, di certo viverà, egli non morrà.

29 Yet saith ye house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equall. O house of Israel, are not my wayes equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?

E pur la casa d'Israele dice: La via del Signore non è bene addirizzata. O casa d'Israele, non son le mie vie bene addirizzate? [anzi], non [son] le vostre vie [quelle che] non sono bene addirizzate?

30 Therefore I will iudge you, O house of Israel, euery one according to his wayes, sayth the Lord God: returne therefore and cause others to turne away from all your transgressions: so iniquitie shall not be your destruction.

Perciò, o casa d'Israele, io vi giudicherò, ciascuno secondo le sue vie, dice il Signore Iddio. Convertitevi, e ritraetevi da tutti i vostri misfatti; e l'iniquità non vi sarà in intoppo.

31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye haue transgressed, and make you a newe heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Gettate via d'addosso a voi tutti i vostri misfatti, che avete commessi; fatevi un cuor nuovo, ed uno spirito nuovo; e perchè morreste voi, o casa d'Israele?

32 For I desire not the death of him that dyeth, sayth the Lord God: cause therefore one another to returne, and liue ye.

Conciossiachè io non mi diletti nella morte di chi muore, dice il Signore Iddio. Convertitevi adunque, e voi viverete.
