Exodus 1

1 Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt (euery man and his housholde came thither with Iaakob)

Agora estes são os nomes dos filhos de Israel, que vieram ao Egito (cada homem e sua família vieram com Jacó):

2 Reuben, Simeon, Leui, and Iudah,

Reuben, Simeão, Levi e Judá,

3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Beniamin,

Issachar, Zebulun e Benjamin,

4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

Dan e Naftali, Gad e Asher.

5 So al the soules, that came out of the loines of Iaakob, were seuentie soules: Ioseph was in Egypt already.

Todas as almas que saíram do corpo de Jacó eram setenta almas, e José já estava no Egito.

6 Nowe Ioseph died and all his brethren, and that whole generation.

José morreu, assim como todos os seus irmãos, e toda aquela geração.

7 And the children of Israel brought foorth fruite and encreased in aboundance, and were multiplied, and were exceeding mightie, so that the land was full of them.

Os filhos de Israel foram fecundos, e aumentaram abundantemente, e se multiplicaram, e cresceram excessivamente poderosos; e a terra se encheu deles.

8 Then there rose vp a newe King in Egypt, who knewe not Ioseph.

Agora surgiu um novo rei sobre o Egito, que não conhecia José.

9 And he sayde vnto his people, Beholde, the people of the children of Israel are greater and mightier then we.

Ele disse ao seu povo: “Eis que o povo dos filhos de Israel é mais e mais poderoso do que nós”.

10 Come, let vs worke wisely with them, least they multiplie, and it come to passe, that if there be warre, they ioyne them selues also vnto our enemies, and fight against vs, and get them out of the land.

Venha, vamos lidar sabiamente com eles, para que não se multipliquem, e acontece que quando alguma guerra eclode, eles também se unem a nossos inimigos e lutam contra nós, e escapam da terra”.

11 Therefore did they set taskemasters ouer them, to keepe the vnder with burdens: and they built the cities Pithom and Raamses for the treasures of Pharaoh.

Por isso, eles colocam os encarregados sobre eles para afligi-los com seus fardos. Eles construíram cidades de armazenamento para o Faraó: Pithom e Raamses.

12 But the more they vexed them, the more they multiplied and grewe: therefore they were more grieued against the children of Israel.

Mas quanto mais eles os afligiam, mais se multiplicavam e mais se espalhavam. Eles começaram a temer os filhos de Israel.

13 Wherefore the Egyptians by crueltie caused the children of Israel to serue.

Os egípcios impiedosamente fizeram os filhos de Israel servir,

14 Thus they made them weary of their liues by sore labour in clay and in bricke, and in al worke in the fielde, with all maner of bondage, which they layde vpon them most cruelly.

e tornaram suas vidas amargas com serviço duro em argamassa e em tijolos, e em todos os tipos de serviço no campo, todo o seu serviço, no qual impiedosamente os fizeram servir.

15 Moreouer the King of Egypt commanded ye midwiues of the Ebrewe women, (of which the ones name was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah)

O rei do Egito falou às parteiras hebraicas, das quais o nome de uma era Shiphrah, e o nome da outra Puah,

16 And sayde, When ye doe the office of a midwife to the women of the Ebrewes, and see them on their stooles, if it be a sonne, then yee shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then let her liue.

e ele disse: “Quando você cumprir o dever de uma parteira para com as mulheres hebraicas, e vê-las no banco de nascimento, se for um filho, então você o matará; mas se for uma filha, então ela viverá”.

17 Notwithstanding ye midwiues feared God, and did not as the King of Egypt commanded them, but preserued aliue the men children.

Mas as parteiras temiam a Deus, e não fizeram o que o rei do Egito lhes ordenou, mas salvaram os meninos bebês vivos.

18 Then the King of Egypt called for the midwiues, and sayde vnto them, Why haue yee done thus, and haue preserued aliue the men children?

O rei do Egito chamou as parteiras e disse-lhes: “Por que vocês fizeram isso e salvaram os meninos vivos?”.

19 And the midwiues answered Pharaoh, Because the Ebrewe women are not as the women of Egypt: for they are liuely, and are deliuered yer the midwife come at them.

As parteiras disseram ao faraó: “Porque as mulheres hebraicas não são como as mulheres egípcias; pois elas são vigorosas e dão à luz antes que a parteira chegue até elas”.

20 God therefore prospered the midwiues, and the people multiplied and were very mightie.

Deus lidou bem com as parteiras, e o povo se multiplicou, e cresceu muito poderoso.

21 And because ye midwiues feared God, therefore he made them houses.

Como as parteiras temiam a Deus, Ele lhes deu famílias.

22 Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Euery man childe that is borne, cast yee into the riuer, but reserue euery maide childe aliue.

O Faraó ordenou a todo seu povo, dizendo: “Lançareis no rio todo filho que nascer, e toda filha salvareis com vida”.
