Exodus 16
1 Afterward all the Congregation of the children of Israel departed from Elim, and came to the wildernes of Sin, (which is betweene Elim and Sinai) the fiftenth day of the second moneth after their departing out of ye land of Egypt.
E tutta la raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele partì da Elim e giunse al deserto di Sin, ch’è fra Elim e Sinai, il quindicesimo giorno del secondo mese dopo la loro partenza dal paese d’Egitto.
2 And the whole Congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wildernesse.
E tutta la raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele mormorò contro Mosè e contro Aaronne nel deserto.
3 For the children of Israel sayde to them, Oh that we had dyed by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when wee sate by the flesh pots, when wee ate bread our bellies full: for yee haue brought vs out into this wildernesse, to kill this whole company with famine.
I figliuoli d’Israele dissero loro: “Oh, fossimo pur morti per mano dell’Eterno nel paese d’Egitto, quando sedevamo presso le pignatte della carne e mangiavamo del pane a sazietà! Poiché voi ci avete menati in questo deserto per far morir di fame tutta questa raunanza”.
4 Then sayd the Lord vnto Moses, Behold, I wil cause bread to rayne from heauen to you, and the people shall goe out, and gather that that is sufficient for euery day, that I may proue them, whether they wil walke in my Law or no.
E l’Eterno disse a Mosè: “Ecco, io vi farò piovere del pane dal cielo; e il popolo uscirà e ne raccoglierà giorno per giorno quanto gliene abbisognerà per la giornata, ond’io lo metta alla prova per vedere se camminerà o no secondo la mia legge.
5 But the sixt daye they shall prepare that, which they shall bring home, and it shalbe twise as much as they gather dayly.
Ma il sesto giorno, quando prepareranno quello che avran portato a casa, essa sarà il doppio di quello che avranno raccolto ogni altro giorno”.
6 Then Moses and Aaron sayde vnto all the children of Israel, At euen ye shall know, that the Lord brought you out of the land of Egypt:
E Mosè ed Aaronne dissero a tutti i figliuoli d’Israele: “Questa sera voi conoscerete che l’Eterno è quegli che vi ha tratto fuori dal paese d’Egitto;
7 And in the morning ye shall see the glorie of the Lord: for he hath heard your grudgings against the Lord: and what are we that ye haue murmured against vs?
e domattina vedrete la gloria dell’Eterno; poich’egli ha udito le vostre mormorazioni contro l’Eterno; quanto a noi, che cosa siamo perché mormoriate contro di noi?”
8 Againe Moses sayd, At euen shall the Lord giue you flesh to eate, and in the morning your fil of bread: for the Lord hath heard your murmurings, which ye murmure against him: for what are we? your murmurings are not against vs, but against the Lord.
E Mosè disse: “Vedrete la gloria dell’Eterno quando stasera egli vi darà della carne da mangiare e domattina del pane a sazietà; giacché l’Eterno ha udito le vostre mormorazioni che proferite contro di lui; quanto a noi, che cosa siamo? le vostre mormorazioni non sono contro di noi ma contro l’Eterno”.
9 And Moses sayd to Aaron, Say vnto all the Congregation of the children of Israel, Draw neere before the Lord: for he hath heard your murmurings.
Poi Mosè disse ad Aaronne: “Di’ a tutta la raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele: Avvicinatevi alla presenza dell’Eterno, perch’egli ha udito le vostre mormorazioni”.
10 Now as Aaron spake vnto the whole Congregation of the children of Israel, they looked toward the wildernesse, and beholde, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloude.
E come Aaronne parlava a tutta la raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele, questi volsero gli occhi verso il deserto; ed ecco che la gloria dell’Eterno apparve nella nuvola.
11 (For the Lord had spoken vnto Moses, saying,
E l’Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:
12 I haue heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: tell them therefore, and say, At euen ye shall eate flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread, and ye shall knowe that I am the Lord your God)
“Io ho udito le mormorazioni dei figliuoli d’Israele; parla loro, dicendo: Sull’imbrunire mangerete della carne, e domattina sarete saziati di pane; e conoscerete che io sono l’Eterno, l’Iddio vostro”.
13 And so at euen the quailes came and couered the campe: and in the morning the dewe lay round about the hoste.
E avvenne, verso sera, che saliron delle quaglie, che ricopersero il campo; e, la mattina, c’era uno strato di rugiada intorno al campo.
14 And when the dewe that was fallen was ascended, beholde, a small round thing was vpon the face of the wildernes, small as the hoare frost on the earth.
E quando lo strato di rugiada fu sparito, ecco sulla faccia del deserto una cosa minuta, tonda, minuta come brina sulla terra.
15 And when the children of Israel sawe it, they sayde one to another, It is MAN, for they wist not what it was. And Moses sayd vnto them, This is the breade which the Lord hath giuen you to eate.
E i figliuoli d’Israele, veduta che l’ebbero, dissero l’uno all’altro: “Che cos’è?” perché non sapevan che cosa fosse. E Mosè disse loro: “Questo è il pane che l’Eterno vi dà a mangiare.
16 This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded: gather of it euery man according to his eating an Omer for a man according to the number of your persons: euery man shall take for them which are in his tent.
Ecco quel che l’Eterno ha comandato: Ne raccolga ognuno quanto gli basta per il suo nutrimento: un omer a testa, secondo il numero delle vostre persone; ognuno ne pigli per quelli che sono nella sua tenda”.
17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some lesse.
I figliuoli d’Israele fecero così, e ne raccolsero gli uni più e gli altri meno.
18 And when they did measure it with an Omer, hee that had gathered much, had nothing ouer, and he that had gathered litle, had no lacke: so euery man gathered according to his eating.
Lo misurarono con l’omer, e chi ne aveva raccolto molto non n’ebbe di soverchio; e chi ne aveva raccolto poco non n’ebbe penuria. Ognuno ne raccolse quanto gliene abbisognava per il suo nutrimento.
19 Moses then said vnto them, Let no man reserue thereof till morning.
E Mosè disse loro: “Nessuno ne serbi fino a domattina”.
20 Notwithstanding they obeyed not Moses: but some of them reserued of it till morning, and it was full of wormes, and stanke: therefore Moses was angrie with them.
Ma alcuni non ubbidirono a Mosè, e ne serbarono fino all’indomani; e quello inverminì e mandò fetore; e Mosè s’adirò contro costoro.
21 And they gathered it euery morning, euery man according to his eating: for when the heate of the sunne came, it was melted.
Così lo raccoglievano tutte le mattine: ciascuno nella misura che bastava al suo nutrimento; e quando il sole si faceva caldo, quello si struggeva.
22 And the sixt day they gathered twise so much bread, two Omers for one man: then all the rulers of the Congregation came and told Moses.
E il sesto giorno raccolsero di quel pane il doppio: due omer per ciascuno. E tutti i capi della raunanza lo vennero a dire a Mosè.
23 And he answered them, This is that, which the Lord hath sayde, To morowe is the rest of the holy Sabbath vnto the Lord: bake that to day which ye wil bake, and seethe that which ye wil seethe, and all that remaineth, lay it vp to be kept till the morning for you.
Ed egli disse loro: “Questo è quello che ha detto l’Eterno: Domani è un giorno solenne di riposo: un sabato sacro all’Eterno; fate cuocere oggi quel che avete da cuocere e fate bollire quel che avete da bollire; e tutto quel che vi avanza, riponetelo e serbatelo fino a domani”.
24 And they laied it vp till the morning, as Moses bade, and it stanke not, neyther was there any worme therein.
Essi dunque lo riposero fino all’indomani, come Mosè aveva ordinato: e quello non diè fetore e non inverminì.
25 Then Moses sayde, Eate that to day: for to day is the Sabbath vnto the Lord: to day ye shall not finde it in the fielde.
E Mosè disse: “Mangiatelo oggi, perché oggi è il sabato sacro all’Eterno; oggi non ne troverete per i campi.
26 Sixe dayes shall yee gather it, but in the seuenth day is the Sabbath: in it there shalbe none.
Raccoglietene durante sei giorni; ma il settimo giorno è il sabato; in quel giorno non ve ne sarà”.
27 Notwithstanding, there went out some of the people in ye seuenth day for to gather, and they found none.
Or nel settimo giorno avvenne che alcuni del popolo uscirono per raccoglierne, e non ne trovarono.
28 And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Howe long refuse yee to keepe my commandements, and my lawes?
E l’Eterno disse a Mosè: “Fino a quando rifiuterete d’osservare i miei comandamenti e le mie leggi?
29 Beholde, howe the Lord hath giuen you the Sabbath: therefore he giueth you the sixt day bread for two dayes: tary therefore euery man in his place: let no man goe out of his place the seuenth day.
Riflettete che l’Eterno vi ha dato il sabato; per questo, nel sesto giorno egli vi dà del pane per due giorni; ognuno stia dov’è; nessuno esca dalla sua tenda il settimo giorno”.
30 So the people rested the seuenth day.
Così il popolo si riposò il settimo giorno.
31 And the house of Israel called the name of it, MAN. and it was like to coriander seede, but white: and the taste of it was like vnto wafers made with hony.
E la casa d’Israele chiamò quel pane Manna; esso era simile al seme di coriandolo; era bianco, e aveva il gusto di schiacciata fatta col miele.
32 And Moses said, This is that which the Lord hath commanded, Fill an Omer of it, to keepe it for your posteritie: that they may see the bread wherewith I haue fed you in wildernesse, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.
E Mosè disse: “Questo è quello che l’Eterno ha ordinato: Empi un omer di manna, perché sia conservato per i vostri discendenti, onde veggano il pane col quale vi ho nutriti nel deserto, quando vi ho tratti fuori dal paese d’Egitto”.
33 Moses also said to Aaron, Take a pot and put an Omer full of MAN therein, and set it before the Lord to be kept for your posteritie.
E Mosè disse ad Aaronne: “Prendi un vaso, mettivi dentro un intero omer di manna, e deponilo davanti all’Eterno, perché sia conservato per i vostri discendenti”.
34 As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laied it vp before the Testimonie to be kept.
Secondo l’ordine che l’Eterno avea dato a Mosè, Aaronne lo depose dinanzi alla Testimonianza, perché fosse conservato.
35 And the children of Israel did eate MAN fourtie yeres, vntill they came vnto a land inhabited: they did eate MAN vntill they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.
E i figliuoli d’Israele mangiarono la manna per quarant’anni, finché arrivarono in paese abitato; mangiarono la manna finché giunsero ai confini del paese di Canaan.
36 The Omer is the tenth part of the Ephah.
Or l’omer è la decima parte dell’efa.
