Esther 2

1 After these things, when the wrath of King Ahashuerosh was appeased, he remembred Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.

Doch später legte sich der Zorn des Königs Ahasveros. Und er gedachte Vasthis und was sie getan und was dann über sie beschlossen ward.

2 And the Kings seruants that ministred vnto him, sayd, Let them seeke for the King beautifull yong virgins,

Da machten nun des Königs Höflinge und Leibdiener den Vorschlag: "Man suche für den König jugendlich anmutige Jungfrauen",

3 And let the King appoynt officers through all the prouinces of his kingdome, and let them gather all the beautiful yong virgins vnto the palace of Shushan, into the house of the women, vnder the hand of Hege the Kings eunuche, keeper of the women, to giue them their things for purification.

und dann bestellte der König in allen Landen seines Reichs Beamte, damit sie jede jugendlich anmutige Jungfrau in die Burg nach Susan in das Frauenhaus verbrächten, zur Obhut Hegais, eines königlichen Kämmerlings, des Aufsehers der Frauen! Man gebe ihnen nur die rechten Schönheitsmittel!

4 And the mayde that shall please the King, let her reigne in the steade of Vashti. And this pleased the King, and he did so.

Und jenes Mädchen, das dem König gefällt, soll Königin an Vasthis Stelle werden." Dem König gefiel der Vorschlag gut. Und also tat er.

5 In the citie of Shushan, there was a certaine Iewe, whose name was Mordecai the sonne of Iair, the sonne of Shimei, the sonne of Kish a man of Iemini,

Da war ein Mann, ein Jude, in der Burg zu Susan mit Namen Mordekai, der Sohn des Jair und Enkel Simeis, des Sohnes des Kis, vom Stamme Benjamin,

6 Which had bene caryed away from Ierusalem with the captiuitie that was caryed away with Ieconiah King of Iudah (whom Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel had caryed away)

der aus Jerusalem einstmals weggeführt, zugleich mit den Gefangenen, die mit dem Judakönig Jechonja waren weggeführt worden, die Nebukadrezar, der Babelkönig, wegführte.

7 And he nourished Hadassah, that is Ester, his vncles daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the mayde was fayre, and beautifull to looke on: and after the death of her father, and her mother, Mordecai tooke her for his own daughter

Er war der Pflegevater Hadossas, das ist der Esther, seines Oheims Tochter, da sie weder Vater noch Mutter mehr hatte. Das Mädchen aber war von herrlicher Gestalt und schönem Aussehen. Und als der Vater und die Mutter starben, nahm Mordekai sie selbst als Tochter an.

8 And when the Kings commandement, and his decree was published, and many maydes were brought together to the palace of Shushan, vnder the hand of Hege, Ester was brought also vnto the Kings house vnder the hande of Hege the keeper of the women.

Nun wurden der Erlaß des Königs und sein Befehl bekanntgegeben. Da brachte man zur Burg nach Susan viele Mädchen zur Obhut Hegais dort zusammen. So ward auch Esther in dem Haus des Königs der Obhut Hegais, des Aufsehers der Frauen, unterstellt.

9 And the mayde pleased him, and she founde fauour in his sight: therefore he caused her things for purification to be giuen her speedily, and her state, and seuen comely maides to be giuer her out of the Kings house, and he gaue change to her and to her maydes of the best in the house of the women.

Und ihm gefiel das Mädchen gut, so daß sie Gnade vor ihm fand. Eifrig war er darauf bedacht, die rechten Schönheitsmittel ihr zu liefern, sowie die rechte Kost und ihr die sieben auserwähltesten der Dienerinnen aus dem königlichen Haus zu geben. Er zeichnete sie und ihre Dienerinnen in dem Frauenhause aus.

10 But Ester shewed not her people and her kinred: for Mordecai had charged her, that shee should not tell it.

Doch Esther hatte weder ihr Volk noch ihre Herkunft angegeben; denn Mordekai hatte es ihr streng verboten.

11 Aud Mordecai walked euery day before the court of the womens house, to knowe if Ester did well, and what should be done with her.

Und Tag für Tag ging Mordekai vor dem Hof des Frauenhauses auf und ab, zu forschen, ob es Esther wohl ergehe und was mit ihr geschehe.

12 And when the course of euery mayd came, to go in to King Ahashuerosh, after that she had bene twelue moneths according to the maner of the women (for so were the dayes of their purifications accomplished, sixe moneths with oyle of myrrhe, and sixe moneths with sweete odours and in the purifying of the women:

Kam dann die Reihe an ein jedes Mädchen, einzeln sich zu dem König Ahasveros zu begeben, nachdem man so mit ihr gemäß den Vorschriften, die für die Frauen gelten, zwölf Monde lang verfahren hatte - denn soviel Zeit verging schon über ihrer Schönheitspflege, sechs Monde mit Myrrhenöl, sechs Monde mit Balsamen und anderen Schönheitsmitteln für die Frauen -,

13 And thus went the maides vnto the King) whatsoeuer she required, was giuen her, to go with her out of the womens house vnto ye kings house.

so kam auf solche Art zum König das Mädchen. Was sie verlangte, wurde ihr gegeben, um sie vom Frauenhause bis zum königlichen Hause zu begleiten.

14 In the euening she went, and on the morow she returned into the second house of the women vnder the hand of Shaashgaz the Kings eunuche, which kept the concubines: shee came in to the King no more, except shee pleased the King, and that she were called by name.

Am Abend ging sie hinein; am Morgen kehrte sie zum Frauenhaus zurück, und zwar ins zweite in die Obhut des Sasgaz, des königlichen Kämmerlings, des Aufsehers der Weiber; sie durfte nimmermehr zum König kommen. Nur wenn der König sollte je an ihr Gefallen finden, dann würde sie mit ihrem Namen aufgerufen.

15 Now when the course of Ester the daughter of Abihail the vncle of Mordecai (which had taken her as his owne daughter) came, that shee should go in to the King, she desired nothing, but what Hege the Kings eunuche the keeper of the women sayde: and Ester founde fauour in the sight of all them that looked vpon her.

So kam die Reihe auch an Esther, die Tochter Abichails, des Oheims Mordekais, der sie als Tochter angenonunen, zum König zu gehen. Und sie verlangte gar nichts weiter, als was der königliche Kämmerling Hegai, der Aufseher der Frauen, gab. Jedoch erwarb sich Esther Gunst bei allen, die sie sahen.

16 So Ester was taken vnto King Ahashuerosh into his house royall in the tenth moneth, which is the moneth Tebeth, in the seuenth yeere of his reigne.

Und so ward Esther zu dem König Ahasveros in das königliche Schloß geholt am zehnten Neumond, das ist im Monat Tebet, im siebten Jahre seiner Herrschaft.

17 And the King loued Ester aboue all the women, and shee founde grace and fauour in his sight more then all the virgins: so that he set the crowne of the kingdome vpon her head, and made her Queene instead of Vashti.

Und da gewann der König Esther lieb, mehr als alle anderen Jungfrauen. Und sie erwarb sich Gunst und Huld vor ihm, mehr als die anderen Jungfrauen all. Er setzte ihr ein königliches Diadem aufs Haupt und machte sie an Vasthis Statt zur Königin.

18 Then the King made a great feast vnto all his princes, and his seruants, which was the feast of Ester, and gaue rest vnto the prouinces, and gaue gifts, according to the power of a King.

Der König gab ein großes Mahl für alle seine Fürsten und für seine Diener, das Gastmahl Esthers. Und den Provinzen gab er Steuernachlaß. Und er gewährte eine Spende, königlich freigebig.

19 And whe the virgins were gathered ye second time, then Mordecai sate in the Kings gate.

Als man die Jungfrauen verschiedener Abstammung zusammenholte - beim Tor des Königs aber wohnte Mordekai -,

20 Ester had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people, as Mordecai had charged her: for Ester did after the worde of Mordecai, as when she was nourished with him.

gab Esther ihre Herkunft und ihr Volk nicht an, wie Mordekai es ihr befohlen. So folgte Esther dem Befehl des Mordekai wie damals, als sie noch in Pflege bei ihm war.

21 In those dayes whe Mordecai sate in the Kings gate, two of the Kings eunuches, Bigthan and Teresh, which kept the doore, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the King Ahashuerosh.

In jenen Tagen, als Mordekai beim Tor des Königs wohnte, erzürnten sich einst Bigetan und Teres, die beiden königlichen Kämmerlinge, die zudem Schwellenhüter waren, und trachteten danach, an König Ahasveros Hand zu legen.

22 And the thing was knowen to Mordecai, and he tolde it vnto Queene Ester, and Ester certified the King thereof in Mordecais name:

Die Sache aber wurde Mordekai bekannt. Und er erzählte es der Königin Esther, und Esther sagte es im Namen Mordekais dem König.

23 and when inquisition was made, it was found so: therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the booke of the Chronicles before the King.

Als man der Sache heimlich nachspürte, da wurden sie ertappt und beide an das Holz gehängt. Und dies ward im Buch der Chronik für den König aufgezeichnet.
