Esther 1
1 In the dayes of Ahashuerosh (this is Ahashuerosh that reigned, from India euen vnto Ethiopia, ouer an hundreth, and seuen and twentie prouinces)
Και εν ταις ημέραις του Ασσουήρου, ούτος είναι ο Ασσουήρης, ο βασιλεύων από της Ινδίας έως της Αιθιοπίας, επί εκατόν εικοσιεπτά επαρχιών·
2 In those dayes when the King Ahashuerosh sate on his throne, which was in the palace of Shushan,
εν εκείναις ταις ημέραις, ότε ο βασιλεύς Ασσουήρης εκάθησεν επί τον θρόνον της βασιλείας αυτού, εν Σούσοις τη βασιλευούση,
3 In the third yeere of his reigne, he made a feast vnto all his princes and his seruants, euen the power of Persia and Media, and to the captaines and gouernours of the prouinces which were before him,
εν τω τρίτω έτει της βασιλείας αυτού, έκαμε συμπόσιον εις πάντας τους άρχοντας αυτού και τους δούλους αυτού· και ήτο ενώπιον αυτού η δύναμις της Περσίας και της Μηδίας, οι ευγενείς και οι άρχοντες των επαρχιών,
4 That he might shewe the riches and glorie of his kingdome, and the honour of his great maiestie many dayes, euen an hundreth and foure score dayes.
ότε εδείκνυε τα πλούτη της ενδόξου βασιλείας αυτού, και την λαμπρότητα της εξόχου μεγαλειότητος αυτού, ημέρας πολλάς, εκατόν ογδοήκοντα ημέρας.
5 And when these dayes were expired, the King made a feast to all the people that were founde in the palace of Shushan, both vnto great and small, seuen dayes, in the court of the garden of the Kings palace,
Και αφού επληρώθησαν αι ημέραι αύται, έκαμεν ο βασιλεύς συμπόσιον εις πάντα τον λαόν τον ευρεθέντα εν Σούσοις τη βασιλευούση, από μεγάλου έως μικρού, επτά ημέρας, εν τη αυλή του κήπου του βασιλικού παλατίου·
6 Vnder an hanging of white, greene, and blue clothes, fastened with cordes of fine linen and purple, in siluer rings, and pillars of marble: the beds were of golde, and of siluer vpon a pauement of porphyre, and marble and alabaster, and blue colour.
όπου ήσαν παραπετάσματα λευκά, πράσινα και κυανά, κρεμάμενα διά σχοινίων βυσσίνων και πορφυρών διά κρίκων αργυρών εις στύλους εκ μαρμάρου· κλίναι χρυσαί και αργυραί ήσαν επί λιθόστρωτον εκ πορφυρίτου και κυανού και λευκού και μέλανος μαρμάρου.
7 And they gaue them drinke in vessels of golde, and changed vessel after vessel, and royall wine in abundance according to the power of the King.
Εκέρνων δε εις σκεύη χρυσά, ηλλάσσοντο δε τα σκεύη διαδοχικώς, και ήτο οίνος βασιλικός εν αφθονία, κατά την μεγαλοπρέπειαν του βασιλέως.
8 And the drinking was by an order, none might compel: for so the King had appoynted vnto all the officers of his house, that they should do according to euery mans pleasure.
Η δε πόσις ήτο κεκανονισμένη· ουδείς εβίαζε· διότι ο βασιλεύς προσέταξεν ούτως εις πάντας τους οικονόμους του παλατίου αυτού, να κάμνωσι κατά την ευχαρίστησιν εκάστου.
9 The Queene Vashti made a feast also for the women in the royall house of King Ahashuerosh.
Και Αστίν έτι η βασίλισσα έκαμεν εις τας γυναίκας συμπόσιον εν τω οίκω τω βασιλικώ του βασιλέως Ασσουήρου.
10 Vpon the seuenth daye when the King was merie with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seuen eunuches, (that serued in the presence of King Ahashuerosh)
Εν τη εβδόμη δε ημέρα, ότε η καρδία του βασιλέως ήτο εύθυμος εκ του οίνου, προσέταξε τον Μεουμάν, τον Βηζαθά, τον Αρβωνά, τον Βηγθά και Αβαγθά, τον Ζεθάρ και τον Χαρκάς, τους επτά ευνούχους τους υπηρετούντας ενώπιον του βασιλέως Ασσουήρου,
11 To bring Queene Vashti before the King with the crowne royall, that he might shewe the people and the princes her beautie: for shee was fayre to looke vpon.
να φέρωσι την Αστίν την βασίλισσαν ενώπιον του βασιλέως, μετά του βασιλικού διαδήματος, διά να δείξη το κάλλος αυτής εις τους λαούς και εις τους άρχοντας· διότι ήτο ώραία την όψιν.
12 But the Queene Vashti refused to come at the Kings worde, which he had giuen in charge to the eunuches: therefore the King was very angry, and his wrath kindled in him.
Η βασίλισσα όμως Αστίν ηρνήθη να έλθη κατά την προσταγήν του βασιλέως, την διά των ευνούχων. Όθεν ο βασιλεύς εθυμώθη σφόδρα, και η οργή αυτού εξήφθη εν εαυτώ.
13 Then the King said to the wise men, that knew the times (for so was the Kings maner towards all that knew the law and the iudgement:
Τότε είπεν ο βασιλεύς προς τους σοφούς, τους γνωρίζοντας τους καιρούς· διότι τοιαύτη ήτο η συνήθεια του βασιλέως προς πάντας τους γνωρίζοντας τον νόμον και την κρίσιν·
14 And the next vnto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan the seuen princes of Persia and Media, which sawe the Kings face, and sate the first in the kingdome)
πλησίον δε αυτού ήτο ο Καρσένα, ο Σεθάρ, ο Αδμαθά, ο Θαρσείς, ο Μερές, ο Μαρσενά και ο Μεμουκάν, οι επτά άρχοντες της Περσίας και της Μηδίας, οίτινες έβλεπον το πρόσωπον του βασιλέως και είχον την προεδρίαν εν τω βασιλείω·
15 What shall we do vnto the Queene Vashti according to the law, because she did not according to the worde of the King Ahashuerosh by the commission of the eunuches?
Τι αρμόζει να κάμωμεν προς την βασίλισσαν Αστίν κατά τον νόμον, διότι δεν εξετέλεσε την διά των ευνούχων προσταγήν του βασιλέως Ασσουήρου;
16 Then Memucan answered before the King and the Princes, The Queene Vashti hath not only done euill against the King, but against all the princes, and against all the people that are in all the prouinces of King Ahashuerosh.
Και απεκρίθη ο Μεμουκάν ενώπιον του βασιλέως και των αρχόντων, Η βασίλισσα Αστίν δεν ημάρτησε μόνον εις τον βασιλέα, αλλά και εις πάντας τους άρχοντας και εις πάντας τους λαούς τους εν πάσαις ταις επαρχίαις του βασιλέως Ασσουήρου·
17 For the acte of the Queene shall come abroade vnto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their owne eyes, and shall say, The King Ahashuerosh comanded Vashti the Queene to be brought in before him, but she came not.
διότι η πράξις της βασιλίσσης θέλει διαδοθή εις πάσας τας γυναίκας, ώστε θέλουσι καταφρονεί τους άνδρας αυτών έμπροσθεν των οφθαλμών αυτών, όταν διαφημισθή ότι ο βασιλεύς Ασσουήρης προσέταξε την βασίλισσαν Αστίν να φερθή ενώπιον αυτού, και δεν ήλθε·
18 So shall the princesses of Persia and Media this day say vnto all the Kings Princes, when they heare of the acte of the Queene: thus shall there be much despitefulnesse and wrath.
και την σήμερον αι δέσποιναι της Περσίας και της Μηδίας, όσαι ήκουσαν περί της πράξεως της βασιλίσσης, θέλουσι λαλήσει ούτω προς πάντας τους άρχοντας του βασιλέως· εντεύθεν μεγάλη περιφρόνησις και οργή·
19 If it please the King, let a royal decree proceede from him, and let it be written among the statutes of Persia, and Media, (and let it not be transgressed) that Vashti come no more before King Ahashuerosh: and let the King giue her royal estate vnto her companion that is better then she.
εάν λοιπόν ήναι αρεστόν εις τον βασιλέα, ας εξέλθη παρ' αυτού βασιλική διαταγή, και ας γραφή μεταξύ των νόμων των Περσών και των Μήδων, διά να ήναι αμετάθετος, να μη έλθη πλέον η Αστίν ενώπιον του βασιλέως Ασσουήρου· και ας δώση ο βασιλεύς την βασιλικήν αυτής αξίαν εις άλλην καλητέραν αυτής·
20 And when the decree of the King which shalbe made, shalbe published throughout all his kingdome (though it be great) all the women shall giue their husbands honour, both great and small.
και όταν το πρόσταγμα του βασιλέως, το οποίον θέλει κάμει, δημοσιευθή διά παντός του βασιλείου αυτού, διότι είναι μέγα, πάσαι αι γυναίκες θέλουσιν αποδίδει τιμήν εις τους άνδρας αυτών, από μεγάλου έως μικρού.
21 And this saying pleased the King and the princes, and the King did according to the worde of Memucan.
Και ο λόγος ήρεσεν εις τον βασιλέα και εις τους άρχοντας· και έκαμεν ο βασιλεύς κατά τον λόγον του Μεμουκάν·
22 For he sent letters into all the prouinces of the King, into euery prouince according to the writing thereof, and to euery people after their language, that euery man should beare rule in his owne house, and that he should publish it in the language of that same people.
και έστειλε γράμματα εις πάσας τας επαρχίας του βασιλέως, εις εκάστην επαρχίαν κατά το γράφειν αυτής, και προς έκαστον λαόν κατά την γλώσσαν αυτού, να ήναι πας ανήρ κύριος εν τη οικία αυτού, και να λαλή κατά την γλώσσαν του λαού αυτού.
