Ephesians 2
1 And you hath he quickened, that were dead in trespasses and sinnes,
Et vous, vous étiez morts par vos offenses et vos péchés,
2 Wherein, in times past ye walked, according to the course of this world, and after the prince that ruleth in the aire, euen the spirite, that nowe worketh in the children of disobedience, (aiōn g165)
dans lesquels vous marchiez autrefois selon le train de ce monde, selon le prince de la puissance de l’air, de l’esprit qui agit maintenant dans les fils de la désobéissance. (aiōn g165)
3 Among whom we also had our conuersation in time past, in the lustes of our flesh, in fulfilling the will of the flesh, and of the minde, and were by nature the children of wrath, as well as others.
Nous tous aussi, nous vivions autrefois comme eux selon les convoitises de notre chair, accomplissant les volontés de la chair et de nos pensées, et nous étions par nature enfants de colère, comme les autres.
4 But God which is rich in mercie, through his great loue wherewith he loued vs,
Mais Dieu, qui est riche en miséricorde, à cause du grand amour dont il nous a aimés,
5 Euen when we were dead by sinnes, hath quickened vs together in Christ, by whose grace ye are saued,
et alors que nous étions morts par nos offenses, nous a rendus vivants avec le Christ (c’est par grâce que vous êtes sauvés);
6 And hath raysed vs vp together, and made vs sit together in the heauenly places in Christ Iesus,
il nous a ressuscités ensemble et nous a fait asseoir ensemble dans les cieux en Jésus-Christ,
7 That he might shewe in the ages to come the exceeding riches of his grace, through his kindnesse toward vs in Christ Iesus. (aiōn g165)
afin de montrer dans les siècles à venir l’infinie richesse de sa grâce par sa bonté envers nous en Jésus-Christ. (aiōn g165)
8 For by grace are ye saued through faith, and that not of your selues: it is the gift of God,
Car c’est par la grâce que vous êtes sauvés, par le moyen de la foi; et cela ne vient pas de vous, c’est le don de Dieu;
9 Not of workes, least any man should boast himselfe.
ce n’est pas par les œuvres, afin que nul ne se glorifie.
10 For we are his workemanship created in Christ Iesus vnto good workes, which God hath ordeined, that we should walke in them.
Car nous sommes son ouvrage, ayant été créés en Jésus-Christ pour faire de bonnes œuvres, que Dieu a préparées d’avance, afin que nous les pratiquions.
11 Wherefore remember that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, and called vncircumcision of them, which are called circumcision in the flesh, made with hands,
C’est pourquoi souvenez-vous qu’autrefois, vous païens dans la chair, traités d’incirconcis par ceux qu’on appelle circoncis, et qui le sont en la chair par la main de l’homme,
12 That ye were, I say, at that time without Christ, and were alients from the common wealth of Israel, and were strangers from the couenants of promise, and had no hope, and were without God in the world.
souvenez-vous que vous étiez en ce temps-là sans Christ, en dehors de la société d’Israël, étrangers aux alliances de la promesse, sans espérance et sans Dieu dans le monde.
13 But nowe in Christ Iesus, ye which once were farre off, are made neere by the blood of Christ.
Mais maintenant, en Jésus-Christ, vous qui étiez jadis éloignés, vous êtes rapprochés par le sang du Christ.
14 For he is our peace, which hath made of both one, and hath broken the stoppe of the partition wall,
Car c’est lui qui est notre paix, lui qui des deux peuples n’en a fait qu’un: il a renversé le mur de séparation, l’inimitié,
15 In abrogating through his flesh the hatred, that is, the Lawe of commandements which standeth in ordinances, for to make of twaine one newe man in himselfe, so making peace,
ayant abrogé par l’immolation de sa chair la loi des ordonnances avec ses rigoureuses prescriptions, afin de fondre en lui-même les deux dans un seul homme nouveau, en faisant la paix,
16 And that he might reconcile both vnto God in one body by his crosse, and slay hatred thereby,
et de les réconcilier, l’un et l’autre unis en un seul corps avec Dieu par la croix, en détruisant par elle l’inimitié.
17 And came, and preached peace to you which were afarre off, and to them that were neere.
Et il est venu annoncer la paix à vous qui étiez loin, et la paix à ceux qui étaient proches;
18 For through him we both haue an entrance vnto the Father by one Spirit.
car par lui nous avons accès les uns et les autres auprès du Père, dans un seul et même Esprit.
19 Nowe therefore ye are no more strangers and forreiners: but citizens with the Saintes, and of the houshold of God,
Ainsi donc vous n’êtes plus des étrangers, ni des hôtes de passage; mais vous êtes concitoyens des saints, et membres de la famille de Dieu,
20 And are built vpon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Iesus Christ himselfe being the chiefe corner stone,
édifiés que vous êtes sur le fondement des apôtres et des prophètes, dont Jésus-Christ lui-même est la pierre angulaire.
21 In whom all the building coupled together, groweth vnto an holy Temple in the Lord.
C’est en lui que tout l’édifice bien ordonné s’élève, pour former un temple saint dans le Seigneur;
22 In whom ye also are built together to be the habitation of God by the Spirit.
c’est en lui que, vous aussi, vous êtes édifiés, pour être par l’Esprit-Saint, une demeure où Dieu habite.
