Deuteronomy 8
1 Ye shall keepe all the commandements which I command thee this day, for to doe them: that ye may liue, and be multiplied, and goe in, and possesse the land which the Lord sware vnto your fathers.
૧આજે હું તમને જે સર્વ આજ્ઞાઓ જણાવું છું તે તમે કાળજી રાખીને તેને પાળો, જેથી તમે જીવતા રહો અને તમે વૃદ્ધિ પામો. અને જે દેશ આપવાના યહોવાહે તમારા પિતૃઓ આગળ સમ ખાધા હતા તેનું વતન પ્રાપ્ત કરો.
2 And thou shalt remember all ye way which the Lord thy God led thee this fourtie yeere in the wildernesse, for to humble thee and to proue thee, to knowe what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keepe his commandements or no.
૨તમને નમ્ર બનાવવા અને તમે તેમની આજ્ઞાઓનું પાલન કરવા માગો છો કે કેમ, એ જાણવા માટે તથા પારખું કરવા યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરે ચાળીસ વર્ષ સુધી જે રસ્તે તમને ચલાવ્યાં તે તમે યાદ રાખો.
3 Therefore he humbled thee, and made thee hungry, and fed thee with MAN, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know it, that he might teache thee that man liueth not by bread onely, but by euery worde that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doth a man liue.
૩અને યહોવાહે તમને નમ્ર બનાવવા માટે તમને ભૂખ્યા રહેવા દીધા. અને તમે નહોતા જાણતા કે તમારા પિતૃઓ પણ નહોતા જાણતા એવા માન્નાથી તમને પોષ્યા; એ માટે કે યહોવાહ તમને જણાવે કે માણસ ફક્ત રોટલીથી જ જીવિત રહેતો નથી, પણ યહોવાહના મુખમાંથી નીકળતા દરેક વચનોથી માણસ જીવે છે.
4 Thy raiment waxed not olde vpon thee, neither did thy foote swell those fourtie yeeres.
૪આ ચાળીસ વર્ષ દરમ્યાન તમારા શરીર પરનાં વસ્રો ઘસાઈ ગયા નહિ અને તમારા પગ સૂજી ગયા નહિ.
5 Knowe therefore in thine heart, that as a man nourtereth his sonne, so the Lord thy God nourtereth thee.
૫એટલે આ વાત તમે સમજો કે જે રીતે પિતા પોતાના પુત્રને શિક્ષા કરે છે તેમ યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વર તમને શિક્ષા કરે છે.
6 Therefore shalt thou keepe the commandements of the Lord thy God, that thou mayest walke in his wayes, and feare him.
૬તેથી તમારે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરના માર્ગોમાં ચાલવું, તેમનો ડર રાખવો અને તેમની આજ્ઞાઓ પાળવી.
7 For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land in the which are riuers of water and fountaines, and depthes that spring out of valleis and mountaines:
૭કેમ કે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વર તમને એક સમૃદ્વ દેશમાં લઈ જાય છે એટલે પાણીનાં વહેણવાળા તથા ખીણોમાં અને ઉચ્ચપ્રદેશમાં ફૂટી નીકળતા ઝરણાં તથા જળનિધિઓવાળા દેશમાં;
8 A land of wheate and barley, and of vineyards, and figtrees, and pomegranates: a land of oyle oliue and hony:
૮ઘઉં તથા જવ, દ્રાક્ષ, અંજીરીઓ તથા દાડમોનાં દેશમાં; જૈતૂન તેલ અને મધના દેશમાં.
9 A land wherein thou shalt eate bread without scarcitie, neither shalt thou lacke any thing therein: a land whose stones are yron, and out of whose mountaines thou shalt digge brasse.
૯જયાં તું ધરાઈને અન્ન ખાશે અને તને ખાવાની કોઈ ખોટ પડશે નહિ એવા દેશમાં. વળી કોઈ વસ્તુની ખોટ નહિ પડે, તેમ જ જેના પથ્થર લોખંડના છે અને જેના ડુંગરોમાંથી તું પિત્તળ કાઢી શકે. એવા દેશમાં લઈ જાય છે.
10 And when thou hast eaten and filled thy selfe, thou shalt blesse the Lord thy God for the good land, which he hath giuen thee.
૧૦ત્યાં તમે ખાઈને તૃપ્ત થશો અને યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરે જે સમૃદ્વ દેશ તમને આપ્યો છે તે માટે તમે યહોવાહની સ્તુતિ કરશો.
11 Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, not keeping his commandements, and his lawes, and his ordinances, which I commaund thee this day:
૧૧સાવધ રહેજો રખેને તેમની આજ્ઞાઓ, કાનૂનો અને નિયમો જે આજે હું તને ફરમાવું છું તે ન પાળતાં તમે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરને ભૂલી જાઓ.
12 Lest when thou hast eaten and filled thy selfe, and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein,
૧૨રખેને તમે ખાઈને તૃપ્ત થાઓ અને સારાં ઘરો બાંધીને તેમાં રહો.
13 And thy beastes, and thy sheepe are increased, and thy siluer and golde is multiplied, and all that thou hast is increased,
૧૩અને જ્યારે તમારાં ઢોરઢાંક અને ઘેટાંબકરાંની અને અન્ય જાનવરોની સંખ્યામાં વધારો થાય અને જ્યારે તમારું સોનુંચાંદી વધી જાય અને તમારી માલમિલકત વધી જાય,
14 Then thine heart be lifted vp and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage,
૧૪ત્યારે રખેને તમારું મન ગર્વિષ્ઠ થાય અને તમે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરને ભૂલી જાઓ કે જે તમને મિસરમાંથી એટલે ગુલામીના દેશમાંથી બહાર લાવ્યા છે.
15 Who was thy guide in the great and terrible wildernes (wherein were fierie serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where was no water, who brought forth water for thee out of ye rock of flint:
૧૫જેણે તમને આગિયા સાપ તથા વીંછીઓવાળા તથા પાણી વગરની સૂકી જમીનવાળા વિશાળ અને ભયંકર અરણ્યમાં સંભાળીને ચલાવ્યાં. જેમણે તમારે માટે ચકમકના ખડકમાંથી પાણી વહેતું કર્યું અને જે
16 Who fed thee in the wildernesse with MAN, which thy fathers knewe not) to humble thee, and and to proue thee, that he might doe thee good at thy latter ende.
૧૬યહોવાહે અરણ્યમાં તમને માન્ના કે જે તમારા પિતૃઓએ કદી નહોતું જોયું તેનાથી તમારું પોષણ કર્યું, એ માટે યહોવાહ તમને નમ્ર કરે અને આખરે તમારું સારું કરવા માટે તે તમારી કસોટી કરે.
17 Beware least thou say in thine heart, My power, and the strength of mine owne hand hath prepared me this abundance.
૧૭રખેને તમે તમારા મનમાં વિચારો કે “મારી પોતાની શક્તિથી અને મારા હાથનાં સામર્થ્યથી મેં આ સર્વ સંપત્તિ મેળવી છે.”
18 But remember the Lord thy God: for it is he which giueth thee power to get substance to establish his couenant which he sware vnto thy fathers, as appeareth this day.
૧૮પણ તમે હંમેશા યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરનું સ્મરણ કરો કેમ કે સંપત્તિ પ્રાપ્ત કરવા માટેની શક્તિ આપનાર તો તે એકલા જ છે; એ માટે કે તેનો કરાર અને તેમણે તમારા પિતૃઓની આગળ જે સમ ખાધા તે તેઓ પૂર્ણ કરે.
19 And if thou forget the Lord thy God, and walke after other gods, and serue them, and worship them, I testifie vnto you this day that ye shall surely perish.
૧૯અને એમ થશે કે જો તમે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરને ભૂલી જઈને અન્ય દેવદેવીઓની તરફ વળશો અને તેઓની સેવા કરશો તો હું આજે તમારી વિરુદ્ધ સાક્ષી આપું છું કે તમે નિશ્ચે નાશ પામશો.
20 As the nations which the Lord destroyeth before you, so ye shall perish, because ye woulde not be obedient vnto the voyce of the Lord your God.
૨૦જે પ્રજાઓનો યહોવાહ તમારી આગળથી નાશ કરે છે તેઓની જેમ તમે નાશ પામશો. કેમ કે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરની વાણી તમે સાંભળવાને ચાહ્યું નહિ.
