Deuteronomy 24

1 When a man taketh a wife, and marrieth her, if so be shee finde no fauour in his eyes, because hee hath espyed some filthinesse in her, then let him write her a bill of diuorcement, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

Quand quelqu'un aura pris une femme, et se sera marié avec elle, s'il arrive qu'elle ne trouve pas grâce devant ses yeux, à cause qu'il aura trouvé en elle quelque chose de malhonnête, il lui donnera par écrit la lettre de divorce, et la lui ayant mise entre les mains, il la renverra hors de sa maison.

2 And when she is departed out of his house, and gone her way, and marrie with an other man,

Et quand elle sera sortie de sa maison, et que s'en étant allée, elle se sera mariée à un autre mari;

3 And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a letter of diuorcement, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house, or if the latter man die which tooke her to wife:

Si ce dernier mari la prend en haine, et lui donne par écrit la lettre de divorce, et la lui met en main, et la renvoie de sa maison, ou que ce dernier mari qui l'avait prise pour [sa] femme, meure;

4 Then her first husband, which sent her away, may not take her againe to be his wife, after that she is defiled: for that is abomination in the sight of the Lord, and thou shalt not cause the land to sinne, which the Lord thy God doeth giue thee to inherite.

Alors son premier mari qui l'avait renvoyée, ne pourra pas la reprendre pour [sa] femme, après avoir été [cause] qu'elle s'est souillée; car c'est une abomination devant l'Eternel; ainsi tu ne chargeras point de péché le pays que l'Eternel ton Dieu te donne en héritage.

5 When a man taketh a new wife, he shall not goe a warfare, neither shalbe charged with any businesse, but shalbe free at home one yeere, and reioyce with his wife which he hath taken.

Quand quelqu'un se sera nouvellement marié, il n'ira point à la guerre, et on ne lui imposera aucune charge; mais il en sera exempt dans sa maison pendant un an, et sera en joie à la femme qu'il aura prise.

6 No man shall take the nether nor the vpper milstone to pledge: for this gage is his liuing.

On ne prendra point pour gage les deux meules, non pas même la meule de dessus, parce qu'on prendrait pour gage la vie [de son prochain].

7 If any man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh marchandise of him, or selleth him, that thiefe shall die: so shalt thou put euil away from among you.

Quand on trouvera quelqu'un qui aura commis un larcin de la personne de quelqu'un de ses frères des enfants d'Israël, et qui en aura fait trafic, et l'aura vendu; ce larron-là mourra, et tu ôteras le mal du milieu de toi.

8 Take heede of the plague of leprosie, that thou obserue diligently, and doe according to all that the Priestes of the Leuites shall teach you: take heede ye doe as I commanded them.

Prends garde à la plaie de la lèpre, afin que tu gardes soigneusement et fasses tout ce que les Sacrificateurs qui sont de la race de Lévi, vous enseigneront; vous prendrez garde à faire selon ce que je leur ai commandé.

9 Remember what the Lord thy God did vnto Miriam by the way after that ye were come out of Egypt.

Qu'il te souvienne de ce que l'Eternel ton Dieu fit à Marie, en chemin après que vous fûtes sortis d'Egypte.

10 Whe thou shalt aske again of thy neighbour any thing lent, thou shalt not goe into his house to fet his pledge.

Quand tu auras droit d'exiger de ton prochain quelque chose qui te sera dû, tu n'entreras point dans sa maison pour prendre son gage;

11 But thou shalt stand without, and the man that borowed it of thee, shall bring the pledge out of the doores vnto thee.

Mais tu te tiendras dehors, et l'homme duquel tu exiges la dette, t'apportera le gage dehors.

12 Furthermore if it be a poore body, thou shalt not sleepe with his pledge,

Et si l'homme est pauvre, tu ne te coucheras point ayant encore son gage;

13 But shalt restore him the pledge when the sunne goeth downe, that he may sleepe in his raiment, and blesse thee: and it shalbe righteousnesse vnto thee before the Lord thy God.

Mais tu ne manqueras point de lui rendre le gage dès que le soleil sera couché, afin qu'il couche dans son vêtement, et qu'il te bénisse; et cela te sera imputé à justice devant l'Eternel ton Dieu.

14 Thou shalt not oppresse an hyred seruant that is needie and poore, neyther of thy brethren, nor of the stranger that is in thy land within thy gates.

Tu ne feras point de tort au mercenaire pauvre et indigent d'entre tes frères, ou d'entre les étrangers qui demeurent en ton pays, dans quelqu'une de tes demeures.

15 Thou shalt giue him his hire for his day, neither shall the sunne goe downe vpon it: for he is poore, and therewith susteineth his life: lest he crye against thee vnto the Lord, and it be sinne vnto thee.

Tu lui donneras son salaire le jour même [qu'il aura travaillé], avant que le soleil se couche, car il est pauvre, et c'est à quoi son âme s'attend; afin qu'il ne crie point contre toi à l'Eternel, et que tu ne pèches point [en cela].

16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children put to death for the fathers, but euery man shalbe put to death for his owne sinne.

On ne fera point mourir les pères pour les enfants; on ne fera point aussi mourir les enfants pour les pères; mais on fera mourir chacun pour son péché.

17 Thou shalt not peruert the right of the stranger, nor of the fatherlesse, nor take a widowes rayment to pledge.

Tu ne feras point d'injustice à l'étranger ni à l'orphelin, et tu ne prendras point pour gage le vêtement de la veuve.

18 But remember that thou wast a seruant in Egypt, and howe the Lord thy God deliuered thee thence. Therefore I commaund thee to doe this thing.

Et il te souviendra que tu as été esclave en Egypte; et que l'Eternel ton Dieu t'a racheté de là; c'est pourquoi je te commande de faire ces choses.

19 When thou cuttest downe thine haruest in thy fielde, and hast forgotten a sheafe in the fielde, thou shalt not goe againe to fet it, but it shalbe for the stranger, for the fatherles, and for the widowe: that the Lord thy God may blesse thee in all the workes of thine hands.

Quand tu feras ta moisson dans ton champ, et que tu auras oublié dans ton champ quelque poignée d'épis, tu n'y retourneras point pour la prendre; [mais cela] sera pour l'étranger, pour l'orphelin, et pour la veuve; afin que l'Eternel ton Dieu te bénisse en toutes les œuvres de tes mains.

20 When thou beatest thine oliue tree, thou shalt not goe ouer the boughes againe, but it shalbe for the stranger, for the fatherlesse, and for the widowe.

Quand tu battras tes oliviers, tu n'y retourneras point pour rechercher branche après branche; [mais ce qui sera demeuré] sera pour l'étranger, pour l'orphelin, et pour la veuve.

21 When thou gatherest thy vineyard, thou shalt not gather the grapes cleane after thee, but they shalbe for the stranger, for the fatherlesse, and for the widowe.

Quand tu vendangeras ta vigne, tu ne grappilleras point les raisins qui seront demeurés après toi; mais cela sera pour l'étranger, pour l'orphelin, et pour la veuve.

22 And remember that thou wast a seruant in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to doe this thing.

Et il te souviendra que tu as été esclave au pays d'Egypte; c'est pourquoi je te commande de faire ces choses.
