Deuteronomy 2
1 Then we turned, and tooke our iourney into the wildernes, by the way of the red Sea, as the Lord spake vnto me: and we compassed mount Seir a long time.
Hierauf machten wir kehrt und brachen auf nach der Steppe auf dem Wege zum Schilfmeere, wie uns Jahwe geboten hatte. Und als wir das Gebirge Seir schon eine lange Zeit umzogen hatten,
2 And the Lord spake vnto me, saying,
sprach Jahwe zu mir also:
3 Ye haue compassed this mountaine long ynough: turne you Northward.
Ihr habt nun lange genug dieses Gebirge umzogen; schlagt die Richtung nach Norden ein!
4 And warne thou the people, saying, Ye shall go through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir, and they shall be afraide of you: take ye good heede therefore.
Und dem Volke gieb folgenden Befehl: Es steht euch der Durchzug durch das Gebiet eurer Brüder, der Söhne Esaus, die in Seir wohnen, bevor, und sie werden sich vor euch fürchten. Aber nehmt euch wohl in acht,
5 Ye shall not prouoke them: for I wil not giue you of their land so much as a foot breadth, because I haue giuen mount Seir vnto Esau for a possession.
daß ihr nicht Krieg mit ihnen anfangt; denn ich werde euch auch nicht einen Fuß breit von ihrem Lande geben, da ich das Gebirge Seir Esau zum Erbbesitze verliehen habe.
6 Ye shall buy meate of them for money to eate, and ye shall also procure water of them for money to drinke.
Was ihr an Speise braucht, sollt ihr ihnen mit Geld abkaufen, damit ihr zu essen habt, und ebenso sollt ihr auch das nötige Wasser mit Geld von ihnen kaufen, damit ihr zu trinken habt.
7 For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the workes of thine hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wildernes, and the Lord thy God hath bene with thee this fourtie yeere, and thou hast lacked nothing.
Jahwe, dein Gott, hat dich ja in allem, was du unternommen hast, gesegnet. Er hat für deinen Marsch durch diese große Steppe Fürsorge getragen: vierzig Jahre sind es nun, daß Jahwe, dein Gott, mit dir ist; an nichts hat es dir gefehlt.
8 And when we were departed from our brethren the children of Esau which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plaine, from Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and went by the way of the wildernes of Moab.
Indem wir nun von unsern Brüdern, den Söhnen Esaus, die ihre Wohnsitze in Seir haben, den Weg in der Steppe von Elath und Eziongeber weg weiter zogen, marschierten wir weiter in der Richtung nach der Steppe Moabs.
9 Then the Lord sayd vnto me, Thou shalt not vexe Moab, neither prouoke them to battel: for I wil not giue thee of their land for a possession, because I haue giuen Ar vnto the children of Lot for a possession.
Da sprach Jahwe zu mir: Befehde die Moabiter nicht und laß dich in keinen Krieg mit ihnen ein; denn ich gebe dir von ihrem Lande nichts zum Eigentume, da ich Ar den Nachkommen Lots zum Erbbesitze verliehen habe.
10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great and many, and tall, as the Anakims.
Die Emiter wohnten vor Zeiten darin, Leute so groß, zahlreich und hochgewachsen, wie die Enakiter.
11 They also were taken for gyants as the Anakims: whom the Moabites call Emims.
Auch sie galten für Rephaiter, wie die Enatiter, und die Moabiter nannten sie Emiter.
12 The Horims also dwelt in Seir before time, whome the children of Esau chased out and destroyed them before them, and dwelt in their steade: as Israel shall doe vnto the land of his possession, which the Lord hath giuen them.
In Seir aber wohnten vor Zeiten die Horiter; an deren Stelle setzten sich die Söhne Esaus fest, nachdem sie sie vertrieben und ausgetilgt hatten, gerade wie die Israeliten mit dem Lande verfuhren, das ihnen Jahwe zum Erbbesitze verliehen hatte.
13 Now rise vp, sayd I, and get you ouer the riuer Zered: and we went ouer the riuer Zered.
Macht euch nun auf und überschreitet den Bach Sared! Da überschritten wir den Bach Sared.
14 The space also wherein we came from Kadesh-barnea, vntill we were come ouer the riuer Zered, was eight and thirtie yeeres, vntill all the generation of the men of warre were wasted out from among the hoste, as the Lord sware vnto them.
Achtunddreißig Jahre waren wir unterwegs von Kades-Barnea bis zur Überschreitung des Baches Sared, bis das ganze Geschlecht, die kriegstüchtige Mannschaft, aus dem Lager weggestorben war, wie Jahwe ihnen geschworen hatte.
15 For in deede the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from among the hoste, till they were consumed.
Die Hand Jahwes hatte selbst noch mitgeholfen, um sie bis auf den letzten Mann aus der Mitte des Lagers zu vertilgen.
16 So when all the men of warre were consumed and dead from among the people:
Alle kriegstüchtige Mannschaft war nun aus dem Volke hinweggestorben.
17 Then the Lord spake vnto me, saying,
Da redete Jahwe mit mir also:
18 Thou shalt goe through Ar the coast of Moab this day:
Du bist jetzt auf dem Durchzuge durch das Gebiet der Moabiter, durch Ar, begriffen
19 And thou shalt come neere ouer against the children of Ammon: but shalt not lay siege vnto them, nor moue warre against them: for I will not giue thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession: for I haue giuen it vnto the children of Lot for a possession.
und wirst in die nächste Nähe der Ammoniter kommen; befehde sie nicht und Iaß dich nicht mit ihnen in Streit ein! Denn ich werde dir von dem Lande der Ammoniter nichts zum Eigentume geben, da ich es den Nachkommen Lots zum Erbbesitze verliehen habe.
20 That also was taken for a land of gyants: for gyants dwelt therein afore time, whome the Ammonites called Zamzummims:
Es gilt gleichfalls als ein Land der Rephaiter; vor Zeiten wohnten Rephaiter darin, und die Ammoniter nannten sie Samsummiter.
21 A people that was great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims: but the Lord destroyed them before them, and they succeeded them in their inheritance, and dwelt in their stead:
Es waren Leute, so groß, zahlreich und hochgewachsen, wie die Enakiter. Jahwe aber vertilgte sie vor ihnen, so daß sie ihr Land einnahmen und sich an ihrer Stelle niederließen bis auf den heutigen Tag,
22 As he did to the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims before them, and they possessed them, and dwelt in their stead vnto this day.
wie er auch für die Söhne Esaus that, die Seir bewohnen, indem er die Horiter vor ihnen vertilgte, so daß sie ihr Land einnahmen und sich an ihrer Stelle niederließen bis auf den heutigen Tag.
23 And the Auims which dwelt in Hazarim euen vnto Azzah, the Caphtorims which came out of Caphtor destroyed them, and dwelt in their steade.
Auch die Aviter, die in Gehöften bis nach Gaza hin wohnten, wurden vertilgt von den Kaphtoritern, die aus Kaphtor kamen, und diese ließen sich an ihrer Stelle nieder.
24 Rise vp therefore, sayd the Lord: take your iourney, and passe ouer the riuer Arnon: beholde, I haue giuen into thy hand Sihon, the Amorite, King of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possesse it and prouoke him to battell.
Brecht nun auf und überschreitet den Arnonfluß. Siehe, ich gebe den Amoriter Sihon, den König zu Hesbon, samt seinem Land in deine Gewalt; beginne die Besetzung und überziehe ihn mit Krieg!
25 This day wil I begin to send thy feare and thy dread, vpon all people vnder the whole heauen, which shall heare thy fame, and shall tremble and quake before thee.
Von jetzt an lege ich Furcht und Schrecken vor dir auf die Völker überall unter dem Himmel: Sobald sie nur von dir hören, werden sie vor dir zittern und beben.
26 Then I sent messengers out of the wildernes of Kedemoth vnto Sihon King of Heshbon, with wordes of peace, saying,
Da schickte ich von der Steppe Kedemoth aus Gesandte mit folgenden friedlichen Worten an Sihon, den König zu Hesbon:
27 Let me passe through thy land: I will go by the hie way: I will neither turne vnto the right hand nor to the left.
Ich wünsche dein Land zu durchziehen, will aber immerfort nur auf der Straße bleiben, ohne zur Rechten oder zur Linken abzubiegen.
28 Thou shalt sell me meate for money, for to eate, and shalt giue me water for money for to drinke: onely I will go through on my foote,
Nahrungsmittel sollst du mir für Geld verkaufen, damit ich zu essen, und Wasser sollst du mir für Geld liefern, damit ich zu trinken habe. Um nichts, als um den Weg für meine Füße zum Durchzug ersuche ich, -
29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did vnto me) vntill I be come ouer Iorden, into the land which the Lord our God giueth vs.
das haben mir ebenso die Söhne Esaus, die in Seir, und die Moabiter, die in Ar wohnen, gestattet, - bis ich über den Jordan in das Land hinüberziehen kann, das Jahwe, unser Gott, uns verleihen will.
30 But Sihon the King of Heshbon would not let vs passe by him: for the Lord thy God had hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, because hee would deliuer him into thine hand, as appeareth this day.
Aber Sihon, der König zu Hesbon, weigerte sich, uns den Durchzug zu gestatten, weil Jahwe, dein Gott, seinen Sinn unbeugsam und sein Herz verstockt gemacht hatte, damit er ihn in deine Gewalt gebe, wie es jetzt gekommen ist.
31 And the Lord sayd vnto me, Beholde, I haue begun to giue Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possesse and inherite his land.
Da sprach Jahwe zu mir: Siehst du, ich habe dir bereits Sihon und sein Land preisgegeben; beginne nun mit der Besetzung, um sein Land in Besitz zu nehmen.
32 Then came out Sihon to meete vs, him selfe with all his people to fight at Iahaz.
Und als Sihon mit seinem gesamten Kriegsvolke gegen uns ausrückte, um uns bei Jahaz eine Schlacht zu liefern,
33 But the Lord our God deliuered him into our power, and we smote him, and his sonnes, and all his people.
gab ihn Jahwe, unser Gott, uns preis, so daß wir ihn samt seinen Söhnen und seinem gesamten Kriegsvolke besiegten.
34 And we tooke all his cities the same time, and destroyed euery citie, men, and women, and children: we let nothing remaine.
Damals nahmen wir auch alle seine Städte ein und vollstreckten in jeglicher Stadt an Männern, Weibern und Kindern den Bann; niemanden ließen wir entrinnen.
35 Onely the cattell we tooke to our selues, and the spoyle of the cities which we tooke,
Nur das Vieh und den Raub aus den von uns eingenommenen Städten behielten wir für uns als Beute.
36 From Aroer, which is by the banke of the riuer of Arnon, and from the citie that is vpon the riuer, euen vnto Gilead: there was not one citie that escaped vs: for the Lord our God deliuered vp all before vs.
Von Aroer am Ufer des Arnonflusses und von der Stadt im Thale bis nach Gilead war kein fester Platz, der uns zu steil gewesen wäre; alles gab Jahwe, unser Gott, uns preis.
37 Onely vnto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor vnto any place of the riuer Iabbok, nor vnto the cities in the mountaines, nor vnto whatsoeuer the Lord our God forbade vs.
Nur ließest du das Land der Ammoniter unberührt, alles, was sich zur Seite des Jabokflusses befindet, die Städte im Gebirge und alles, was Jahwe, unser Gott, verboten hatte.
