2 Samuel 2
1 After this, Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go vp into any of the cities of Iudah? And the Lord sayd vnto him, Goe vp. And Dauid sayd Whither shall I goe? Hee then answered, Vnto Hebron.
૧ત્યાર પછી એમ થયું કે દાઉદે ઈશ્વરને પૂછ્યું, “શું હું યહૂદિયાના કોઈ એક નગરમાં જાઉં?” ઈશ્વરે તેને જવાબ આપ્યો, “ઉપર જા.” દાઉદે કહ્યું, “હું કયા શહેરમાં જાઉં?” ઈશ્વરે જવાબ આપ્યો, “હેબ્રોનમાં જા.”
2 So Dauid went vp thither, and his two wiues also, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail Nabals wife the Carmelite.
૨તેથી દાઉદ પોતાની બે સ્ત્રીઓ, યિઝ્રએલી અહિનોઆમ અને નાબાલ કાર્મેલીની વિધવા અબિગાઈલ સાથે ત્યાં ગયો.
3 And Dauid brought vp the men that were with him, euery man with his houshold, and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
૩દાઉદ તેની સાથેના માણસોને પણ ત્યાં લાવ્યો, દરેક પોતપોતાનાં કુટુંબને લઈને હેબ્રોનના નગરોમાં આવ્યા. ત્યાં તેમણે વસવાટ શરુ કર્યો.
4 Then the men of Iudah came, and there they anoynted Dauid King ouer the house of Iudah. And they tolde Dauid, saying, that the men of Iabesh Gilead buried Saul.
૪યહૂદિયાના માણસો ત્યાં આવ્યા, તેઓએ દાઉદને યહૂદાના કુળ પર રાજા તરીકે અભિષેક કર્યો. તેઓએ દાઉદને કહ્યું કે, “યાબેશ ગિલ્યાદના માણસોએ શાઉલને દફ્નાવ્યો.”
5 And Dauid sent messengers vnto the men of Iabesh Gilead, and said vnto them, Blessed are ye of the Lord, that yee haue shewed such kindenes vnto your lord Saul, that you haue buried him.
૫તેથી દાઉદે યાબેશ ગિલ્યાદ દેશના માણસો પાસે સંદેશાવાહકો મોકલીને તેમને કહ્યું, “તમે ઈશ્વરથી આશીર્વાદિત છો, કેમ કે તમે તમારા માલિક શાઉલ પ્રત્યે વફાદારી દર્શાવીને તેને દફ્નાવ્યો.
6 Therefore now the Lord shewe mercie and trueth vnto you: and I will recompence you this benefite, because ye haue done this thing.
૬હવે ઈશ્વર તમારા પર કરારની વફાદારી તથા વિશ્વાસુપણું બતાવો. વળી તમે આ કામ કર્યું છે માટે હું પણ તમારા પ્રત્યે ભલાઈ દર્શાવીશ.
7 Therefore nowe let your handes be strong, and be you valiant: albeit your master Saul bee dead, yet neuerthelesse the house of Iudah hath anoynted me King ouer them.
૭હવે પછી, તમારા હાથ બળવાન થાઓ; તમે હિંમતવાન થાઓ કેમ કે તમારો માલિક શાઉલ મરણ પામ્યો છે; પણ યહૂદાના કુળે મને તેઓના પર રાજા તરીકે અભિષિક્ત કર્યો છે.
8 But Abner the sonne of Ner that was captaine of Sauls hoste, tooke Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and brought him to Mahanaim,
૮પણ શાઉલના સૈન્યનો સેનાપતિ, નેરનો દીકરો આબ્નેર, શાઉલના દીકરા ઈશ-બોશેથને માહનાઇમમાં લઈ આવ્યો;
9 And made him King ouer Gilead, and ouer the Ashurites, and ouer Izreel, and ouer Ephraim, and ouer Beniamin, and ouer al Israel.
૯તેણે ઈશ-બોશેથને ગિલ્યાદ, આશેર, યિઝ્રએલ, એફ્રાઇમ, બિન્યામીન તથા સર્વ ઇઝરાયલ પર રાજા બનાવ્યો.
10 Ish-bosheth Sauls sonne was fourtie yeere olde when he began to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned two yeere: but the house of Iudah followed Dauid.
૧૦જયારે શાઉલનો દીકરો ઈશ-બોશેથ ઇઝરાયલ પર રાજ કરવા લાગ્યો ત્યારે તે ચાળીસ વર્ષનો હતો, તેણે બે વર્ષ રાજ કર્યું. પણ યહૂદાનું કુળ દાઉદને આધીન રહેતું હતું.
11 (And the time which Dauid reigned in Hebron ouer the house of Iudah, was seuen yeere and sixe moneths)
૧૧દાઉદે સાત વર્ષ અને છ મહિના સુધી હેબ્રોનમાં યહૂદાના કુળ પર રાજ કર્યું.
12 And Abner the sonne of Ner, and the seruantes of Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul went out of Mahanaim to Gibeon.
૧૨નેરનો દીકરો આબ્નેર તથા શાઉલના દીકરા ઈશ-બોશેથના ચાકરો, માહનાઇમથી નીકળીને ગિબ્યોનમાં ગયા.
13 And Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and the seruants of Dauid went out and met one another by the poole of Gibeon: and they sate downe, the one on the one side of the poole, and the other on the otherside of the poole.
૧૩સરુયાનો દીકરો યોઆબ અને દાઉદના ચાકરો બહાર નીકળી જઈને તેઓને ગિબ્યોનના નાળાં પાસે મળ્યા. તેઓનું એક ટોળું તળાવની એક કિનારે અને બીજુ ટોળું તળાવની બીજી કિનારે એમ ત્યાં તેઓ બેઠા.
14 Then Abner saide to Ioab, Let the yong men nowe arise, and play before vs. And Ioab said, Let them arise.
૧૪આબ્નેરે યોઆબને કહ્યું કે, “કૃપા કરી જુવાન માણસોને અમારી સમક્ષ આવીને હરીફાઈ કરવા દે.” પછી યોઆબે કહ્યું, “તેઓને આવવા દો.”
15 Then there arose and went ouer twelue of Beniamin by number, which perteined to Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and twelue of the seruants of Dauid.
૧૫પછી જુવાન માણસો ઊઠ્યા અને એકત્ર થયા, બિન્યામીન તથા શાઉલના દીકરા ઈશ-બોશેથમાંથી બાર જણ અને દાઉદના ચાકરોમાંથી બાર.
16 And euery one caught his fellowe by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellowes side, so they fell downe together: wherefore ye place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
૧૬તેઓમાંના પ્રત્યેક માણસે પોતાના વિરોધીને માથાથી પકડીને તેની તલવારની અણી તેના વિરોધીને ભોંકી અને તેઓ બધા એકસાથે નીચે ઢળી પડ્યા. માટે તે જગ્યાનું નામ હિબ્રૂ ભાષામાં, “હેલ્કાથ-હાસ્સુરીમ” અથવા “તલવારોનું ખેતર” એવું પડ્યું, જે ગિબ્યોનમાં છે.
17 And the battel was exceeding sore that same day: for Abner and the men of Israel fell before the seruants of Dauid.
૧૭તે દિવસે ઘણું તીવ્ર યુદ્ધ થયું અને આબ્નેર તથા ઇઝરાયલી માણસોનો દાઉદના ચાકરો આગળ પરાજય થયો હતો.
18 And there were three sonnes of Zeruiah there, Ioab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light on foote as a wilde roe.
૧૮સરુયાના ત્રણ દીકરાઓ: યોઆબ, અબિશાય તથા અસાહેલ ત્યાં હતા. અસાહેલ વન્ય હરણની માફક ઝડપથી દોડી શકતો હતો.
19 And Asahel followed after Abner, and in going he turned neither to the right hand nor to the left from Abner.
૧૯અસાહેલ કોઈપણ દિશામાં વળ્યા વિના સીધો આબ્નેરની પાછળ ગયો.
20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, Yea.
૨૦આબ્નેરે પાછળ જોઈને તેને કહ્યું, “શું તું અસાહેલ છે?” તેણે જવાબ આપ્યો કે, “હું તે છું.”
21 Then Abner said, Turne thee either to the right hande, or to the left, and take one of the yong men, and take thee his weapons: and Asahel would not depart from him.
૨૧આબ્નેરે તેને કહ્યું, “તારી જમણી કે ડાબી બાજુ તરફ વળી જા. અને એક જુવાન માણસને પકડીને તેનાં શસ્ત્ર લઈ લે.” પણ અસાહેલ કોઈ બાજુએ વળ્યો નહિ.
22 And Abner saide to Asahel, Depart from me: wherefore shoulde I smite thee to the grounde? howe then shoulde I be able to holde vp my face to Ioab thy brother?
૨૨તેથી આબ્નેરે ફરીથી અસાહેલને કહ્યું કે, “મારો પીછો કરવાનું બંધ કર. શા માટે તું મારે હાથે જમીનદોસ્ત થવા માંગે છે? તને મારીને હું કેવી રીતે મારું મોં તારા ભાઈ યોઆબને દેખાડું?”
23 And when he woulde not depart, Abner with the hinder ende of the speare smote him vnder the fift ryb, that the speare came out behind him: and he fell downe there, and dyed in his place. And as many as came to the place where Asahel fell downe and dyed, stoode still.
૨૩પણ અસાહેલે તે બાજુ તરફ વળવાનો ઇનકાર કર્યો, તેથી આબ્નેરે ભાલાનો ધારદાર હાથો તેના શરીરમાં ઘુસાડી દીધો, તે ભાલાનો હાથો શરીરની આરપાર નીકળ્યો. અસાહેલ નીચે પડ્યો અને ત્યાં જ મરણ પામ્યો. જ્યાં અસાહેલ મરણ પામ્યો હતો ત્યાં તેના શબ પાસે જેઓ આવ્યા હતા તેઓ ત્યાં જ ઊભા રહ્યા.
24 Ioab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sunne went downe, when they were come to the hill Ammah, that lieth before Giah, by the way of the wildernesse of Gibeon.
૨૪પણ યોઆબ તથા અબિશાય આબ્નેરની પાછળ લાગ્યા. સૂર્યાસ્ત થવાના સમયે, તેઓ આમ્મા પર્વત, જે ગિબ્યોનના અરણ્યના માર્ગ પર ગીયાહ આગળ છે ત્યાં આવી પહોંચ્યા.
25 And the children of Beniamin gathered them selues together after Abner, and were on an heape and stoode on the top of an hill.
૨૫બિન્યામીનના માણસો પોતે આબ્નેરની પાછળ એકત્ર થયા અને તેઓ પર્વતના શિખર ઉપર ઊભા રહ્યા.
26 Then Abner called to Ioab, and said, Shall the sworde deuoure for euer? knowest thou not, that it will be bitternesse in the latter ende? howe long then shall it be, or thou bid the people returne from following their brethren?
૨૬ત્યારે આબ્નેરે યોઆબને હાંક મારીને કહ્યું, શું તલવાર હંમેશા સંહાર કર્યા કરશે? શું તું જાણતો નથી કે તેનો અંત તો કડવો થશે? તારા જે માણસો તેઓના ભાઈઓની પાછળ પડ્યા છે તેઓને ત્યાંથી પાછા વળી જવાનું કહેવાને તું ક્યાં સુધી રાહ જોઈશ?”
27 And Ioab sayde, As God liueth, if thou haddest not spoken, surely euen in the morning the people had departed euery one backe from his brother.
૨૭યોઆબે જવાબ આપ્યો, “જીવતા ઈશ્વરના સમ, જો તેં કહ્યું ન હોત તો નિશ્ચે સવાર સુધી મારા સૈનિકો તેઓના ભાઈઓની પાછળ પડ્યા ન હોત.”
28 So Ioab blew a trumpet, and all the people stoode still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
૨૮પછી યોઆબે રણશિંગડું વગાડ્યું, તેના સર્વ માણસોએ ઇઝરાયલની પાછળ પડવાનું અટકાવી દીધું. અને તેઓએ લડાઈ કરવાનું બંધ કર્યું.
29 And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plaine, and went ouer Iorden, and past through all Bithron till they came to Mahanaim.
૨૯આબ્નેર અને તેના માણસોએ તે આખી રાત અરાબામાં પસાર થઈને મુસાફરી કરી. તેઓ યર્દન ઓળંગીને, બીજી સવારે માહનાઇમમાં પહોંચ્યા.
30 Ioab also returned backe from Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of Dauids seruants nineteene men and Asahel.
૩૦યોઆબે આબ્નેરની પાછળ પડવાનું અટકાવી દીધું. તે પાછો ફર્યો. તેણે સર્વ માણસોને એકત્ર કર્યા. તો તેઓમાંથી અસાહેલ અને દાઉદના સૈનિકોમાંથી ઓગણીસ માણસો ઓછા થયેલા હતા.
31 But the seruants of Dauid had smitten of Beniamin, and of Abners men, so that three hundreth and threescore men dyed.
૩૧પણ દાઉદના માણસોએ આબ્નેર તથા બિન્યામીનના ત્રણ સો સાઠ માણસોને માર્યા.
32 And they tooke vp Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem: and Ioab and his men went all night, and when they came to Hebron, the day arose.
૩૨પછી તેઓએ અસાહેલને ઊંચકી જઈને તેને બેથલેહેમમાં તેના પિતાની કબરમાં દફ્નાવ્યો. યોઆબ અને તેના માણસો આખી રાત ચાલ્યા અને સૂર્યોદય થતાં હેબ્રોનમાં પહોંચ્યા.
