2 Samuel 2
1 After this, Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go vp into any of the cities of Iudah? And the Lord sayd vnto him, Goe vp. And Dauid sayd Whither shall I goe? Hee then answered, Vnto Hebron.
Après cela, David consulta Yahweh, en disant: « Monterai-je dans une des villes de Juda? » Yahweh lui répondit: « Monte. » David dit: « Où monterai-je? » Et Yahweh répondit: « A Hébron. »
2 So Dauid went vp thither, and his two wiues also, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail Nabals wife the Carmelite.
David y monta, avec ses deux femmes, Achinoam de Jezraël et Abigaïl de Carmel, femme de Nabal.
3 And Dauid brought vp the men that were with him, euery man with his houshold, and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
David fit aussi monter les hommes qui étaient avec lui, chacun avec sa famille; ils habitèrent dans les villes d'Hébron.
4 Then the men of Iudah came, and there they anoynted Dauid King ouer the house of Iudah. And they tolde Dauid, saying, that the men of Iabesh Gilead buried Saul.
Et les hommes de Juda vinrent, et là ils oignirent David pour roi sur la maison de Juda. On informa David que c'étaient les hommes de Jabès en Galaad qui avaient enterré Saül.
5 And Dauid sent messengers vnto the men of Iabesh Gilead, and said vnto them, Blessed are ye of the Lord, that yee haue shewed such kindenes vnto your lord Saul, that you haue buried him.
Et David envoya des messagers aux gens de Jabès en Galaad pour leur dire: « Soyez bénis de Yahweh, de ce que vous avez rempli ce pieux devoir envers Saül, votre seigneur, et l'avez enterré.
6 Therefore now the Lord shewe mercie and trueth vnto you: and I will recompence you this benefite, because ye haue done this thing.
Et maintenant, que Yahweh use envers vous de bonté et de fidélité! Moi aussi, je vous rendrai ce bien, parce que vous avez agi de la sorte.
7 Therefore nowe let your handes be strong, and be you valiant: albeit your master Saul bee dead, yet neuerthelesse the house of Iudah hath anoynted me King ouer them.
Et, maintenant, que vos mains se fortifient, et soyez de vaillants hommes; car votre seigneur Saül est mort, et c'est moi que la maison de Juda a oint pour être son roi. »
8 But Abner the sonne of Ner that was captaine of Sauls hoste, tooke Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and brought him to Mahanaim,
Cependant Abner, fils de Ner, chef de l'armée de Saül, prit Isboseth, fils de Saül, et, l'ayant fait passer à Mahanaïm,
9 And made him King ouer Gilead, and ouer the Ashurites, and ouer Izreel, and ouer Ephraim, and ouer Beniamin, and ouer al Israel.
il l'établit roi sur Galaad, sur les Assurites, sur Jezraël, sur Ephraïm, sur Benjamin, sur tout Israël.
10 Ish-bosheth Sauls sonne was fourtie yeere olde when he began to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned two yeere: but the house of Iudah followed Dauid.
— Isboseth, fils de Saül, était âgé de quarante ans lorsqu'il régna sur Israël, et il régna deux ans. — Seule, la maison de Juda restait attachée à David.
11 (And the time which Dauid reigned in Hebron ouer the house of Iudah, was seuen yeere and sixe moneths)
Le temps pendant lequel David régna, à Hébron, sur la maison de Juda fut de sept ans et six mois.
12 And Abner the sonne of Ner, and the seruantes of Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul went out of Mahanaim to Gibeon.
Abner, fils de Ner, et les serviteurs d'Isboseth, fils de Saül, sortirent de Mahanaïm pour marcher sur Gabaon.
13 And Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and the seruants of Dauid went out and met one another by the poole of Gibeon: and they sate downe, the one on the one side of the poole, and the other on the otherside of the poole.
Joab, fils de Sarvia, et les serviteurs de David, se mirent aussi en marche. Ils se rencontrèrent près de l'étang de Gabaon, et ils s'établirent, les uns d'un côté de l'étang, les autres de l'autre côté de l'étang.
14 Then Abner saide to Ioab, Let the yong men nowe arise, and play before vs. And Ioab said, Let them arise.
Abner dit à Joab: « Que les jeunes gens se lèvent et qu'ils joutent devant nous! » Joab répondit: « Qu'ils se lèvent! »
15 Then there arose and went ouer twelue of Beniamin by number, which perteined to Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and twelue of the seruants of Dauid.
Ils se levèrent et s'avancèrent en nombre égal, douze pour Benjamin et pour Isboseth, fils de Saül, et douze des serviteurs de David.
16 And euery one caught his fellowe by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellowes side, so they fell downe together: wherefore ye place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
Chacun, saisissant son adversaire par la tête, enfonça son épée dans le flanc de son compagnon, et ils tombèrent tous ensemble. Et l'on donna à ce lieu le nom de Chelqath Hatsourim; il est en Gabaon.
17 And the battel was exceeding sore that same day: for Abner and the men of Israel fell before the seruants of Dauid.
Et le combat devint très rude en ce jour-là, et Abner et les hommes d'Israël furent défaits par les serviteurs de David.
18 And there were three sonnes of Zeruiah there, Ioab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light on foote as a wilde roe.
Là se trouvaient les trois fils de Sarvia: Joab, Abisaï et Asaël. Asaël avait les pieds légers comme une des gazelles qui sont dans les champs;
19 And Asahel followed after Abner, and in going he turned neither to the right hand nor to the left from Abner.
Asaël poursuivit Abner, sans se détourner de derrière Abner, pour aller à droite ou à gauche.
20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, Yea.
Abner, se tourna derrière lui et dit: « Est-ce toi, Asaël? » Et il répondit: « C'est moi. »
21 Then Abner said, Turne thee either to the right hande, or to the left, and take one of the yong men, and take thee his weapons: and Asahel would not depart from him.
Abner lui dit: « Ecarte-toi à droite ou à gauche; saisis l'un des jeunes gens et prends sa dépouille. » Mais Asaël ne voulut pas se détourner de lui.
22 And Abner saide to Asahel, Depart from me: wherefore shoulde I smite thee to the grounde? howe then shoulde I be able to holde vp my face to Ioab thy brother?
Abner dit encore à Asaël: « Détourne-toi de derrière moi; pourquoi te frapperais-je et t'étendrais-je par terre? Comment pourrais-je ensuite lever mon visage devant Joab, ton frère! »
23 And when he woulde not depart, Abner with the hinder ende of the speare smote him vnder the fift ryb, that the speare came out behind him: and he fell downe there, and dyed in his place. And as many as came to the place where Asahel fell downe and dyed, stoode still.
Et Asaël refusa de se détourner. Alors Abner le frappa au ventre avec l'extrémité inférieure de sa lance, et la lance sortit par derrière. Il tomba là, et mourut sur place. Tous ceux qui arrivaient au lieu où Asaël était tombé et était mort, s'y arrêtaient.
24 Ioab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sunne went downe, when they were come to the hill Ammah, that lieth before Giah, by the way of the wildernesse of Gibeon.
Joab et Abisaï poursuivirent Abner; au coucher du soleil, ils arrivèrent à la colline d'Ammah, qui est à l'est de Giach, sur le chemin du désert de Gabaon.
25 And the children of Beniamin gathered them selues together after Abner, and were on an heape and stoode on the top of an hill.
Les fils de Benjamin se rallièrent à la suite d'Abner et, réunis en un seul corps d'armée, ils s'arrêtèrent au sommet d'une colline.
26 Then Abner called to Ioab, and said, Shall the sworde deuoure for euer? knowest thou not, that it will be bitternesse in the latter ende? howe long then shall it be, or thou bid the people returne from following their brethren?
Abner appela Joab et dit: « L'épée dévorera-t-elle toujours? Ne sais-tu pas qu'il y aura de l'amertume à la fin? Jusques à quand attendras-tu à dire au peuple de cesser de poursuivre ses frères? »
27 And Ioab sayde, As God liueth, if thou haddest not spoken, surely euen in the morning the people had departed euery one backe from his brother.
Joab répondit: « Aussi vrai que Dieu est vivant! si tu n'avais pas parlé, le peuple n'aurait pas cessé avant demain matin de poursuivre chacun son frère. »
28 So Ioab blew a trumpet, and all the people stoode still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
Et Joab sonna de la trompette, et tout le peuple s'arrêta; ils ne poursuivirent plus Israël, et ils ne continuèrent pas à se battre.
29 And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plaine, and went ouer Iorden, and past through all Bithron till they came to Mahanaim.
Abner et ses gens, après avoir marché toute la nuit dans la Plaine, passèrent le Jourdain, traversèrent tout le Bithron, et arrivèrent à Mahanaïm.
30 Ioab also returned backe from Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of Dauids seruants nineteene men and Asahel.
Joab aussi cessa de poursuivre Abner et rassembla tout le peuple; il manquait dix-neuf hommes des serviteurs de David, et Asaël.
31 But the seruants of Dauid had smitten of Beniamin, and of Abners men, so that three hundreth and threescore men dyed.
Et les serviteurs de David avaient frappé à mort trois cent soixante hommes de Benjamin et des hommes d'Abner.
32 And they tooke vp Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem: and Ioab and his men went all night, and when they came to Hebron, the day arose.
Ils emportèrent Asaël et l'enterrèrent dans le sépulcre de son père, qui est à Bethléem. Joab et ses hommes marchèrent toute la nuit, et ils arrivèrent à Hébron au point du jour.
