2 Kings 3

1 Nowe Iehoram the sonne of Ahab beganne to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria, the eighteenth yeere of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, and reigned twelue yeeres.

Joram, fils d'Achab, devint roi d'Israël, à Samarie, la dix-huitième année de Josaphat, roi de Juda, et il régna douze ans.

2 And he wrought euill in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father nor like his mother: for he tooke away the image of Baal that his father had made.

Il fit ce qui est mauvais aux yeux de l'Éternel, non pas pourtant comme son père et sa mère; car il ôta la statue de Baal que son père avait faite.

3 Neuerthelesse, he cleaued vnto the sinnes of Ieroboam, the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne, and departed not therefrom.

Seulement il demeura dans les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nébat, qui avait fait pécher Israël. Il ne s'en détourna point.

4 Then Mesha King of Moab had store of sheepe, and rendred vnto the King of Israel an hundreth thousande lambes, and an hundreth thousande rammes with the wooll.

Or Mésha, roi de Moab, avait de grands troupeaux; et il payait au roi d'Israël un tribut de cent mille agneaux et cent mille béliers avec leur laine.

5 But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the King of Israel.

Mais, aussitôt qu'Achab fut mort, le roi de Moab se révolta contre le roi d'Israël.

6 Therefore King Iehoram went out of Samaria the same season, and nombred all Israel,

C'est pourquoi le roi Joram sortit en ce jour de Samarie, et fit le dénombrement de tout Israël.

7 And went, and sent to Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, saying, The King of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou goe with me to battell against Moab? And he answered, I will goe vp: for I am, as thou art, my people, as thy people, and mine horses as thine horses.

Et il envoya vers Josaphat, roi de Juda, pour lui dire: Le roi de Moab s'est révolté contre moi. Viendras-tu avec moi à la guerre contre Moab? Et il répondit: J'y monterai; dispose de moi comme de toi, de mon peuple comme de ton peuple, de mes chevaux comme de tes chevaux.

8 Then said he, What way shall we goe vp? And he answered, The way of the wildernesse of Edom.

Et il dit: Par quel chemin monterons-nous? Et Joram répondit: Par le chemin du désert d'Édom.

9 So went the King of Israel and the king of Iudah, and the King of Edom, and when they had compassed the way seuen dayes, they had no water for the hoste, nor for the cattell that followed them.

Ainsi le roi d'Israël partit, avec le roi de Juda et le roi d'Édom; et, faisant le tour, ils marchèrent pendant sept jours; mais l'eau manqua pour le camp et pour les bêtes qui suivaient.

10 Therefore the King of Israel sayde, Alas, that the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hand of Moab.

Alors le roi d'Israël dit: Hélas! l'Éternel a sûrement appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer entre les mains de Moab

11 But Iehoshaphat saide, Is there not here a Prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord by him? And one of the King of Israels seruants answered, and said, Here is Elisha the sonne of Shaphat, which powred water on the handes of Eliiah.

Et Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il point ici quelque prophète de l'Éternel, afin que nous consultions l'Éternel par son moyen? Un des serviteurs du roi d'Israël répondit, et dit: Élisée, fils de Shaphat, qui versait l'eau sur les mains d'Élie, est ici.

12 Then Iehoshaphat saide, The worde of the Lord is with him. Therefore the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat, and the King of Edom went downe to him.

Et Josaphat dit: La parole de l'Éternel est avec lui. Alors le roi d'Israël, Josaphat et le roi d'Édom descendirent vers lui.

13 And Elisha sayde vnto the King of Israel, What haue I to doe with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father and to the prophets of thy mother. And the King of Israel saide vnto him, Nay: for the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hande of Moab.

Mais Élisée dit au roi d'Israël: Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toi? Va-t'en vers les prophètes de ton père et vers les prophètes de ta mère! Et le roi d'Israël répondit: Non! car l'Éternel a appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer entre les mains de Moab.

14 Then Elisha said, As the Lord of hostes liueth, in whose sight I stande, if it were not, that I regarde the presence of Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah, I woulde not haue looked towarde thee, nor seene thee.

Alors Élisée dit: L'Éternel des armées, devant qui je me tiens, est vivant! si je n'avais égard à Josaphat, roi de Juda, je ne ferais point attention à toi, et je ne te regarderais pas.

15 But nowe bring me a minstrel. And when the minstrel played, the hand of the Lord came vpon him.

Mais maintenant, amenez-moi un joueur de harpe. Et comme le joueur de harpe jouait, la main de l'Éternel fut sur Élisée.

16 And he saide, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches.

Et il dit: Ainsi a dit l'Éternel: Qu'on fasse des fossés par toute cette vallée.

17 For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall neither see winde nor see raine, yet the valley shalbe filled with water, that ye may drinke, both ye and your cattel, and your beastes.

Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: Vous ne verrez ni vent ni pluie, et cette vallée se remplira d'eaux et vous boirez, vous, vos troupeaux et vos bêtes.

18 But this is a small thing in the sight of the Lord: for he will giue Moab into your hande.

Et c'est peu de chose aux yeux de l'Éternel: Il livrera encore Moab entre vos mains.

19 And ye shall smite euery strong towne and euery chiefe citie, and shall fell euery faire tree, and shall stoppe all the fountaines of water, and marre euery good fielde with stones.

Et vous frapperez toutes les villes fortes et toutes les villes principales; vous abattrez tous les bons arbres, vous boucherez toutes les sources d'eau, et vous couvrirez de pierres tous les meilleurs champs.

20 And in the morning whe the meat offring was offred, beholde, there came water by the way of Edom: and the countrey was filled with water.

Le matin donc, à l'heure où l'on offre l'oblation, il arriva qu'on vit des eaux venir par le chemin d'Édom, et le pays fut rempli d'eaux.

21 And when al the Moabites heard that the Kings were come vp to fight against them, they gathered all that was able to put on harnesse, and vpwarde, and stood in their border.

Or tous les Moabites, ayant appris que les rois étaient montés pour leur faire la guerre, s'étaient assemblés à cri public, depuis l'âge où l'on ceint le baudrier et au-dessus; et ils se tenaient sur la frontière.

22 And they rose earely in the morning, when the sunne arose vpon the water, and the Moabites saw the water ouer against them, as red as blood.

Et, le matin, à leur lever, comme le soleil se levait sur les eaux, les Moabites virent vis-à-vis d'eux les eaux rouges comme du sang.

23 And they saide, This is blood the Kings are surely slaine, and one hath smitten another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoyle.

Et ils dirent: C'est du sang! Certainement, les rois se sont entre-tués, et chacun a frappé son compagnon. Maintenant donc, Moabites, au butin!

24 And when they came to the host of Israel, the Israelites arose vp, and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them, but they inuaded them, and smote Moab.

Ainsi, ils vinrent au camp d'Israël; mais les Israélites se levèrent et battirent les Moabites, qui s'enfuirent devant eux; puis ils avancèrent dans le pays, et frappèrent Moab.

25 And they destroyed the cities: and on all the good field euery man cast his stone, and filled them and they stopt all the fountaines of water, and felled all the good trees: onely in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof: howebeit they went about it with slings, and smote it.

Ils détruisirent les villes, jetèrent chacun des pierres dans les meilleurs champs, et les remplirent; ils bouchèrent toutes les sources d'eau, et abattirent tous les bons arbres, jusqu'à ne laisser que les pierres à Kir-Haréseth, que les tireurs de fronde environnèrent et battirent.

26 And when the King of Moab saw that the battel was too sore for him, he tooke with him seuen hudreth men that drew the sword, to break through vnto the King of Edom: but they could not.

Et le roi de Moab, voyant qu'il n'était pas le plus fort, prit avec lui sept cents hommes tirant l'épée, pour pénétrer jusqu'au roi d'Édom; mais ils ne le purent.

27 Then he tooke his eldest sonne, that should haue reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offring vpon the wall: so that Israel was sore grieued, and they departed from him, and returned to their countrey.

Alors il prit son fils aîné, qui devait régner à sa place, et il l'offrit en holocauste sur la muraille. Et il y eut chez les Israélites une grande indignation. Ainsi ils se retirèrent de lui, et s'en retournèrent en leur pays.
