2 Kings 22

1 Iosiah was eight yeere olde when he beganne to reigne, and hee reigned one and thirtie yeere in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Iedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozcath.

Josias avait huit ans quand il monta sur le trône, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem; sa mère se nommait Jedia, fille d'Edia de Basuroth.

2 And hee did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

Et il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux du Seigneur; il marcha dans toutes les voies de David, son aïeul; il n'en dévia ni à droite ni à gauche.

3 And in the eighteenth yeere of King Iosiah, the King sent Shaphan the sonne of Azaliah the sonne of Meshullam the chanceller to ye house of the Lord, saying,

En la troisième année du règne de Josias, le huitième mois, le roi envoya Saphan, fils d'Ezélie, fils de Mésollam, scribe du temple du Seigneur, disant:

4 Goe vp to Hilkiah the high Priest, that hee may summe the siluer which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the doore haue gathered of the people.

Monte auprès d'Helcias le grand prêtre; compte l'argent offert par le peuple dans le temple, et recueilli par les gardiens de la porte.

5 And let them deliuer it into the hande of them that doe the worke, and haue the ouersight of the house of the Lord: let them giue it to them that worke in the house of the Lord, to repaire the decayed places of the house:

Qu'ils remettent cet argent aux ouvriers employés dans le temple. Et l'on donna cet argent aux ouvriers du temple, pour qu'ils y fissent des réparations.

6 To wit, vnto the artificers and carpenters and masons, and to bye timber, and hewed stone to repaire the house.

On le donna aux charpentiers, aux constructeurs, aux maçons, pour acheter du bois et des pierres de taille, et consolider le temple.

7 Howebeit, let no rekoning bee made with them of the money, that is deliuered into their hand: for they deale faithfully.

Mais on ne leur demanda pas compte de l'argent qui leur fut confié, parce que les travaux furent exécutés de bonne foi.

8 And Hilkiah the high Priest sayde vnto Shaphan the chanceller, I haue found the booke of the Lawe in the house of the Lord: and Hilkiah gaue the booke to Shaphan, and hee reade it.

Or, le grand prêtre Helcias dit à Saphan le scribe: J'ai trouvé dans le temple le livre de la loi. Et il lui donna le livre; puis, Saphan le lut.

9 So Shaphan the chanceller came to ye King, and brought him word againe, and saide, Thy seruants haue gathered the money, that was found in the house, and haue deliuered it vnto the hands of them that doe the worke, and haue the ouersight of the house of the Lord.

Ensuite, il entra auprès du roi dans le temple; il lui rapporta ce qui avait été fait, et il dit: Tes serviteurs ont fondu l'argent trouvé dans le temple du Seigneur, et ils l'ont remis aux ouvriers du temple.

10 Also Shaphan the chanceller shewed the King saying, Hilkiah the Priest hath deliuered me a booke. And Shaphan read it before the King.

Et Saphan le scribe ajouta: Le prêtre Helcias m'a donné un livre. Et Saphan le lut devant le roi.

11 And when the King had heard the wordes of the booke of the Law, he rent his clothes.

Quand Josias ouït les paroles du livre de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements,

12 Therefore the King commanded Hilkiah the Priest, and Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan, and Achbor the sonne of Michaiah, and Shaphan the chanceller, and Asahiah the Kings seruant, saying,

Et il donna ses ordres à Helcias le prêtre, à Achicam, fils de Saphan, à Achobor, fils de Michée, à Saphan le scribe, à Amie, serviteur du roi, et il leur dit:

13 Go ye and inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Iudah concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against vs, because our fathers haue not obeyed the wordes of this booke, to doe according vnto all that which is written therein for vs.

Allez au Seigneur vous enquérir de moi, de tout le peuple, de tout Juda, concernant les paroles de ce livre qu'on a trouvé; car la colère dont le Seigneur s'est enflammé contre nous est grande, parce que nos pères n'ont point écouté les paroles de ce livre pour faire selon ce qui est écrit à notre sujet.

14 So Hilkiah the Priest and Ahikam, and Achbor and Shaphan, and Asahiah went vnto Huldah the Prophetesse the wife of Shallum, ye sonne of Tikuah, the sonne of Harhas keeper of the wardrobe: (and she dwelt in Ierusalem in the colledge) and they communed with her.

Et le prêtre Helcias, Achicam, Achobor, Saphan et Asaïe, allèrent chez la prophétesse Olda, mère de Sellem, fils de Thécuan, fils d'Aras, gardien des vêtements. Elle demeurait à Jérusalem dans le quartier de Masena, et ils lui parlèrent.

15 And shee answered them, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Tel the man that sent you to mee,

Et elle leur répondit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël: Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyés près de moi:

16 Thus sayth the Lord, Behold, I wil bring euill vpon this place, and on the inhabitants thereof, euen al the words of the booke which ye King of Iudah hath read,

Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Voilà que j'apporte des maux à ce lieu et à ceux qui l'habitent, selon les paroles du livre qu'a lu le roi de Juda;

17 Because they haue forsaken mee, and haue burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger me with all ye works of their hands: my wrath also shalbe kindled against this place and shall not be queched:

En punition de ce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, et de ce qu'ils ont encensé d'autres dieux, de sorte qu'ils m'ont irrité par toutes les œuvres de leurs mains; car ma colère est enflammée contre ce lieu, et elle ne s'éteindra pas.

18 But to the King of Iudah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, so shall ye say vnto him, Thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel, The wordes that thou hast heard, shall come to passe.

Quant au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyés vous enquérir au Seigneur, dites-lui: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël au sujet des paroles que tu as entendues:

19 But because thine heart did melt, and thou hast humbled thy selfe before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants of the same, to wit, that it should be destroyed and accursed, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me, I haue also heard it, saith the Lord.

En récompense de ce que ton cœur ne s'est point endurci, de ce que devant moi tu es rentré en toi-même quand tu as ouï ce que j'ai dit contre ce lieu et contre ceux qui l'habitent, pour qu'ils soient effacés et maudits; de ce que tu as déchiré tes vêtements et pleuré en ma présence: eh bien! moi aussi j'ai entendu, dit le Seigneur.

20 Beholde therefore, I wil gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be put in thy graue in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the euil, which I will bring vpon this place. Thus they brought the King worde againe.

Il n'en sera pas ainsi: voilà que je te réunis à tes pères; tu descendras en paix dans ton sépulcre, et tes yeux ne verront aucun des maux que j'apporte en ce lieu.
