2 Kings 18
1 Now in the third yeere of Hoshea, sonne of Elah King of Israel, Hezekiah the sonne of Ahaz king of Iudah began to reigne.
El año tercero de Oseas, hijo de Elá, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías, hijo de Acaz, rey de Judá.
2 He was fiue and twentie yeere olde when he began to reigne, and reigned nine and twenty yeere in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Abi the daughter of Zachariah,
Tenía veinticinco años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Abí, hija de Zacarías.
3 And he did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Dauid his father had done.
Hizo lo que era recto a los ojos de Yahvé, siguiendo en toda su conducta a su padre David.
4 He tooke away the hie places, and brake the images, and cut downe the groues, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for vnto those dayes the children of Israel did burne incense to it, and hee called it Nehushtan.
Eliminó los lugares altos, quebró las piedras de culto, cortó las ascheras e hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés; porque hasta ese tiempo los hijos de Israel le quemaban incienso, dándole el nombre de Nohestán.
5 He trusted in the Lord God of Israel: so that after him was none like him among all the Kings of Iudah, neither were there any such before him.
Puso su confianza en Yahvé, el Dios de Israel; y no hubo semejante a él entre todos los reyes de Judá, que vinieron después de él, ni tampoco entre los que le precedieron.
6 For he claue to the Lord, and departed not from him, but kept his commandements, which the Lord had commanded Moses.
Era adicto a Yahvé y no se apartó de Él, y guardó los mandamientos que Yahvé había prescrito a Moisés.
7 So the Lord was with him, and he prospered in all thinges, which he tooke in hande: also he rebelled against the King of Asshur, and serued him not.
Yahvé estuvo con él, por lo cual tuvo éxito en todas sus empresas; se rebeló también contra el rey de Asiria y no le sirvió.
8 He smote the Philistims vnto Azzah, and the coastes thereof, from the watch towre vnto the defensed citie.
Derrotó a los filisteos hasta Gaza y su territorio, desde la torre de atalaya hasta la ciudad fortificada.
9 And in the fourth yere of King Hezekiah, (which was the seuenth yeere of Hoshea sonne of Elah King of Israel) Shalmaneser King of Asshur came vp against Samaria, and besieged it.
El año cuarto del rey Ezequías, que era el año séptimo de Oseas, hijo de Elá, rey de Israel, subió Salmanasar, rey de Asiria, contra Samaria para asediarla;
10 And after three yeeres they tooke it, euen in the sixt yeere of Hezekiah: that is, the ninth yeere of Hoshea King of Israel was Samaria taken.
y (los asirios) la tomaron al cabo de tres años. El año sexto de Ezequías, que era el año noveno de Oseas, rey de Israel, fue tomada Samaria.
11 Then the King of Asshur did carry away Israel vnto Asshur, and put them in Halah and in Habor, by the riuer of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
El rey de Asiria transportó a los israelitas a Asiria, y los colocó en Halah, y cerca del Habor, río de Gozan, y en las ciudades de los medos;
12 Because they woulde not obey the voyce of the Lord their God, but transgressed his couenant: that is, all that Moses the seruant of the Lord had commanded, and would neyther obey nor doe them.
porque no habían escuchado la voz de Yahvé, su Dios, violando su alianza y todo cuanto Él había mandado a Moisés, siervo de Yahvé. No lo escucharon, ni lo practicaron.
13 Moreouer, in the fourteenth yeere of King Hezekiah, Saneherib King of Asshur came vp against all the strong cities of Iudah, and tooke them.
El año decimocuarto del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá y se apoderó de ellas.
14 Then Hezekiah King of Iudah sent vnto the King of Asshur to Lachish, saying, I haue offended: depart from me, and what thou layest vpon me, I wil beare it. And the King of Asshur appoynted vnto Hezekiah King of Iudah three hudreth talents of siluer, and thirty talets of golde.
Entonces Ezequías, rey de Judá, mandó a decir al rey de Asiria, que estaba en Laquís: “He pecado; retírate de mí; todo lo que me impongas lo pagaré.” Y el rey de Asiria impuso a Ezequías, rey de Judá, trescientos talentos de plata y treinta talentos de oro.
15 Therefore Hezekiah gaue all the siluer that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the Kings house.
Entonces Ezequías le dio todo el dinero que había en la Casa de Yahvé, y en los tesoros de la casa real.
16 At the same season did Hezekiah pul off the plates of the doores of the Temple of the Lord, and the pillars (which the sayd Hezekiah King of Iudah had couered ouer) and gaue them to the King of Asshur.
En aquella ocasión arrancó Ezequías de las puertas y columnas del templo de Yahvé (el oro) con que el mismo Ezequías, rey de Judá, las había recubierto, y lo entregó al rey de Asiria.
17 And the King of Asshur sent Tartan, and Rab-saris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great hoste against Ierusalem. And they went vp, and came to Ierusalem, and when they were come vp, they stood by the conduite of the vpper poole, which is by the path of the fullers fielde,
El rey de Asiria envió desde Laquís a Tartán, a Rabsarís y a Rabsacés, con un gran ejército contra Ezequías, a Jerusalén. Estos subieron y llegaron a Jerusalén. Y cuando hubieron subido y llegado hicieron alto junto al acueducto del estanque superior, en el Camino del campo del batanero.
18 And called to the King. Then came out to them Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah, which was steward of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder.
Preguntaron por el rey, y salieron a ellos Eliaquim, hijo de Helcías, mayordomo del palacio; Sobná, secretario, y Joah, hijo de Asaf, el cronista;
19 And Rabshakeh sayde vnto them, Tell ye Hezekiah, I pray you, Thus saith the great King, euen the great King of Asshur, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
a los cuales dijo Rabsacés: “Decid a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey, el rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esta en que tú te apoyas?
20 Thou thinkest, Surely I haue eloquence, but counsell and strength are for the warre. On whom then doest thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
Tú piensas que las meras palabras sustituyen la prudencia y la fuerza para la guerra. Y ahora, ¿en quién confías para rebelarte contra mí?
21 Lo, thou trustest now in this broken staffe of reede, to wit, on Egypt, on which if a man leane, it will goe into his hand, and pearce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt vnto all that trust on him.
Ya sé que confías en Egipto, este báculo de caña cascada que penetra y traspasa la mano del que en ella se apoya. Tal es el Faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que confían en él.
22 But if ye say vnto me, We trust in the Lord our God, is not that he whose hie places, and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath sayd to Iudah and Ierusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Ierusalem?
Y si me dijereis: Confiamos en Yahvé, el Dios nuestro, ¿no es el mismo cuyos lugares altos y cuyos altares ha quitado Ezequías, diciendo a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar, en Jerusalén, habéis de postraros?
23 Now therefore giue hostages to my lord the King of Asshur, and I will giue thee two thousand horses, if thou be able to set riders vpon them.
Haz, pues, una apuesta con mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú puedes poner jinetes sobre ellos.
24 For how canst thou despise any captaine of the least of my masters seruants, and put thy trust on Egypt for charets and horsemen?
¿Cómo podrías tú resistir a un solo jefe de los más pequeños servidores de mi señor, poniendo tu confianza en Egipto por sus carros y su caballería?
25 Am I now come vp without the Lord to this place, to destroy it? the Lord sayd to me, Goe vp against this land, and destroy it.
¿Acaso he subido yo ahora sin Yahvé contra este lugar, para destruirlo? Es Yahvé quien me ha dicho: «Sube contra este país y destrúyelo.»”
26 Then Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Ioah said vnto Rabshakeh, Speake I pray thee, to thy seruants in the Aramites language, for we vnderstand it, and talke not with vs in the Iewes tongue, in the audience of the people that are on the wall.
Respondieron Eliaquim, hijo de Helcías, Sobná y Joah a Rabsacés: “Habla con tus siervos en lengua aramea, pues la entendemos; y no nos hables en judío, pues lo oye la gente que está sobre la muralla.”
27 But Rabshakeh saide vnto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speake these words, and not to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eate their owne doung, and drinke their owne pisse with you?
Rabsacés les respondió: “¿Acaso mi señor me ha enviado a decir estas palabras a tu señor y a ti, y no más bien a esos hombres sentados sobre el muro que han de comer sus propios excrementos y beber su propia orina lo mismo que vosotros?”
28 So Rabshakeh stoode and cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes language, and spake, saying, Heare the wordes of the great King, of the king of Asshur.
Y puesto en pie gritó Rabsacés en alta voz, y dijo en lengua judía estas palabras: “¡Oíd la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria!
29 Thus sayth the King, Let not Hezekiah deceiue you: for he shall not be able to deliuer you out of mine hand.
Así dice el rey: «No os engañe Ezequías, pues no podrá libraros de mi mano.»
30 Neither let Hezekiah make you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliuer vs, and this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the hand of the king of Asshur.
Ni os haga Ezequías confiar en Yahvé, diciendo: «Sin falta nos librará Yahvé, y esta ciudad no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.»
31 Hearken not vnto Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Asshur, Make appointment with me, and come out to me, that euery man may eate of his owne vine, and euery man of his owne figge tree, and drinke euery man of the water of his owne well,
No escuchéis a Ezequías; porque así dice el rey de Asiria: «Haced paz conmigo y venid a mí; y cada uno comerá de su vid y de su higuera, y cada cual beberá del agua de su cisterna;
32 Till I come, and bring you to a land like your owne land, euen a land of wheate and wine, a land of bread and vineyardes, a lande of oliues oyle, and hony, that ye may liue and not die: and obey not Hezekiah, for he deceiueth you, saying, The Lord will deliuer vs.
hasta que yo venga y os lleve a una tierra parecida a la vuestra, tierra de trigo y vino, tierra de pan y de viñas, tierra de olivos, de aceite y de miel; y así viviréis y no moriréis.» No escuchéis, pues, a Ezequías, porque os engaña cuando dice: «¡Yahvé nos librará!»
33 Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his lande out of the hand of the King of Asshur?
¿Hay por ventura uno de los dioses de las naciones que haya librado su país del poder del rey de Asiria?
34 Where is the god of Hamah, and of Arpad? where is the god of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah? how haue they deliuered Samaria out of mine hand?
¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde los dioses de Sefarvaim, de Haná y de Avá? ¿Han librado a Samaria de mi mano?
35 Who are they among all the gods of the nations, that haue deliuered their lande out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliuer Ierusalem out of mine hand?
¿Cuáles son, entre todos los dioses de los países, los que han salvado su tierra de mi mano, para que Yahvé libre de mi poder a Jerusalén?”
36 But the people helde their peace, and answered not him a worde: for the Kings commandement was, saying, Answere ye him not.
El pueblo permaneció en silencio y no le respondió palabra; porque el rey había dado esta orden: “No le respondáis.”
37 Then Eliakim, the sonne of Hilkiah which was steward of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and tolde him the wordes of Rabshakeh.
Entonces Eliaquim, hijo de Helcías, mayordomo de palacio; Sobná, secretario, y Joah, hijo de Asaf, el cronista, volvieron a Ezequías, rasgados sus vestidos, y le refirieron las palabras de Rabsacés.
