2 Kings 17
1 In the twelft yeere of Ahaz King of Iudah began Hoshea the sonne of Elah to reigne in Samaria ouer Israel, and reigned nine yeeres.
La douzième année d’Achaz, roi de Juda, Osée, fils d’Ela, commença à régner à Samarie sur Israël; son règne dura neuf ans.
2 And he did euill in the sight of the Lord, but not as the Kinges of Israel, that were before him.
Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux du Seigneur, mais moins que les rois d’Israël qui l’avaient précédé.
3 And Shalmaneser king of Asshur came vp against him, and Hoshea became his seruant, and gaue him presents.
C’Est lui que vint attaquer Salmanassar, roi d’Assyrie; mais Osée fit sa soumission et paya tribut.
4 And the King of Asshur founde treason in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So King of Egypt, and brought no present vnto the King of Asshur, as he had done yeerely: therfore the king of Asshur shut him vp, and put him in prison.
Puis le roi d’Assyrie surprit un complot d’Osée: celui-ci, ayant envoyé des émissaires à So, roi d’Egypte, ne livrait plus au roi d’Assyrie le tribut annuel. Le roi d’Assyrie le fit enfermer et enchaîner dans une prison.
5 Then the king of Asshur came vp throughout all the lande, and went against Samaria, and besieged it three yeere.
Ensuite le roi d’Assyrie fit des expéditions dans tout le pays; il attaqua Samarie et en fit le siège pendant trois ans.
6 In the ninth yeere of Hoshea, the King of Asshur tooke Samaria, and caryed Israel away vnto Asshur, and put them in Halah, and in Habor by the riuer of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
La neuvième année du règne d’Osée, le roi d’Assyrie s’empara de Samarie et exila les Israélites en Assyrie; il les établit à Halah sur le Haber, fleuve du Gozân, et dans les villes de la Médie.
7 For when the children of Israel sinned against the Lord their God, which had brought them out of the land of Egypt, from vnder ye hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and feared other gods,
C’Est que les enfants d’Israël avaient péché contre l’Eternel, leur Dieu, qui les avait tirés du pays d’Egypte, les délivrant de la domination de Pharaon, roi d’Egypte. Ils avaient adoré des divinités étrangères,
8 And walked according to the facions of the Heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel, and after the maners of the Kings of Israel, which they vsed,
suivi les lois des nations que l’Eternel avait dépossédées au bénéfice des enfants d’Israël; et c’étaient les rois d’Israël qui en avaient été la cause.
9 And the children of Israel had done secretly things that were not vpright before the Lord their God, and throughout all their cities had built hie places, both from the tower of the watch, to the defensed citie,
Les enfants d’Israël avaient commis en secret des actes illicites contre l’Eternel, leur Dieu; ils s’étaient bâti des hauts-lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis la tour des guetteurs jusqu’à la ville fortifiée;
10 And had made them images and groues vpon euery hie hill, and vnder euery greene tree,
ils avaient dressé des statues et des Achêra sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre verdoyant.
11 And there burnt incense in all the hie places, as did the heathen, whom the Lord had taken away before them, and wrought wicked things to anger the Lord,
Là, sur tous les hauts-lieux, ils avaient offert de l’encens, à l’exemple des nations que Dieu avait chassées devant eux; ils avaient commis des actes coupables pour irriter l’Eternel.
12 And serued idoles: whereof the Lord had sayd vnto them, Ye shall do no such thing,
Ils avaient rendu un culte aux idoles, malgré l’ordre que l’Eternel leur avait donné de ne pas agir ainsi.
13 Notwithstanding the Lord testified to Israel, and to Iudah by all the Prophets, and by all the Seers, saying, Turne from your euill wayes, and keepe my commandements and my statutes, according to all the Lawe, which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my seruants the Prophets.
Dieu, cependant, avait adressé des avertissements à Israël et à Juda par l’organe de tous ses prophètes et voyants, disant: "Renoncez à vos voies mauvaises, observez mes commandements et mes statuts, selon toute la loi que j’ai dictée à vos ancêtres et que je vous ai fait prêcher par mes serviteurs les prophètes."
14 Neuerthelesse they would not obey, but hardened their neckes, like to the neckes of their fathers, that did not beleeue in the Lord their God.
Mais ils n’avaient rien écouté et avaient raidi leur cou comme leurs pères, qui n’avaient pas foi en l’Eternel, leur Dieu.
15 And they refused his statutes and his couenant, that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies (wherewith he witnessed vnto them) and they followed vanitie, and became vaine, and followed the heathen that were round about them: concerning whome the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them.
Ils avaient méprisé ses lois, l’alliance contractée avec leurs ancêtres et les avertissements qu’il leur avait donnés; ils avaient suivi les dieux de vanité et étaient devenus eux-mêmes vains, avaient imité les nations voisines que Dieu avait défendu d’imiter,
16 Finally they left all the commandements of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, euen two calues, and made a groue, and worshipped all the hoste of heauen, and serued Baal.
avaient abandonné tous les commandements de l’Eternel, leur Dieu, s’étaient fabriqué des idoles de fonte, deux veaux, confectionné des images d’Astarté; ils s’étaient prosternés devant toute l’armée des cieux et avaient servi Baal.
17 And they made their sonnes and their daughters passe thorowe the fire, and vsed witchcraft and inchantments, yea, solde them selues to doe euill in the sight of the Lord, to anger him.
Ils avaient fait passer leurs fils et leurs filles par le feu, pratiqué la magie et la sorcellerie et, sans frein, s’étaient abandonnés à la pratique du mal aux yeux de l’Eternel, pour le courroucer.
18 Therefore the Lord was exceeding wroth with Israel, and put them out of his sight, and none was left but the tribe of Iudah onely.
Dieu s’irrita fortement contre Israël et les repoussa de devant sa face: ils ne resta que la tribu de Juda.
19 Yet Iudah kept not the commandements of the Lord their God, but walked according to the facion of Israel, which they vsed.
Juda même n’observa pas les commandements de l’Eternel, leur Dieu ils adoptèrent les mœurs des Israélites.
20 Therefore the Lord cast off all the seede of Israel, and afflicted them, and deliuered them into the handes of spoylers, vntill he had cast them out of his sight.
Voilà pourquoi Dieu rejeta toute la race d’Israël, qu’il rendit malheureuse et livra au pouvoir des pillards; il alla même jusqu’à les chasser de devant lui.
21 For he cut off Israel from the house of Dauid, and they made Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat King: and Ieroboam drewe Israel away from following the Lord, and made them sinne a great sinne.
C’Est qu’Israël avait déchiré le pacte qui l’unissait à la maison de David et pris pour roi Jéroboam, fils de Nebat. Celui-ci avait éloigné Israël de l’Eternel et lui avait fait commettre de grands péchés.
22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sinnes of Ieroboam, which he did, and departed not therefrom,
Les Israélites avaient imité toutes les prévarications de Jéroboam, sans s’en écarter,
23 Vntill the Lord put Israel away out of his sight, as he had said by all his seruants the Prophets, and caryed Israel away out of their land to Asshur vnto this day.
au point que Dieu repoussa Israël de devant lui, suivant qu’if l’avait déclaré par l’organe de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes; il exila Israël de son pays en Assyrie, où ils sont encore aujourd’hui.
24 And the King of Asshur brought folke from Babel, and from Cuthah, and from Aua, and from Hamath, and from Sepharuaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria in steade of the children of Israel: so they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
Le roi d’Assyrie amena des gens de Babylone, de Ceuta, d’Ave, de Hamat et de Sefarvayim et les établit dans les villes de la Samarie pour remplacer les Israélites; ils prirent possession de la Samarie et habitèrent les villes.
25 And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slewe them.
Or, au commencement de leur séjour, ils n’adoraient pas l’Eternel. Aussi Dieu lâcha-t-il contre eux des lions, qui exercèrent des ravages parmi eux.
26 Wherefore they spake to the King of Asshur, saying, The nations which thou hast remoued, and placed in the cities of Samaria, knowe not the maner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and behold, they slay them, because they knowe not the maner of the God of the land.
On dit alors au roi d’Assyrie: "Les nations que tu as transportées et établies dans les villes de la Samarie ne connaissent pas le culte du Dieu du pays. C’Est pourquoi il a lancé contre eux des lions, qui les font périr à cause de l’ignorance où ils sont du culte à rendre au Dieu du pays."
27 Then the King of Asshur commanded, saying, Carie thither one of the Priestes whome ye brought thence, and let him goe and dwell there, and teache them the maner of the God of the countrey.
Le roi d’Assyrie édicta cet ordre: "Ramenez l’un des prêtres que vous avez exilés de ce pays; qu’il y retourne pour s’y établir et qu’il leur enseigne le culte du Dieu de ce pays."
28 So one of the Priestes, which they had caryed from Samaria, came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they shoulde feare the Lord.
Un des prêtres exilés de Samarie vint s’établir à Béthel, et il leur enseigna comment ils devaient adorer l’Eternel.
29 Howbeit euery nation made their gods, and put them in the houses of the hie places, which the Samaritanes had made, euery nation in their cities, wherein they dwelt.
Mais chaque nation se confectionna ses divinités et les érigea dans les maisons des hauts-lieux édifiées par les Samaritains, chacune dans les villes qu’elle habitait.
30 For the men of Babel made Succoth-Benoth: and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
Les gens de Babel firent Souccot-Benot; ceux de Couth, Nergal; ceux de Hamat, Achima.
31 And the Auims made Nibhaz, and Tartak: and the Sepharuims burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech, and Anammelech the gods of Sepharuaim.
Les Avites firent Nibhaz et Tartak; les Sefarvites brûlaient leurs enfants dans le feu en l’honneur d’Adrammélec et d’Anammélec, dieux de Sefarvayim.
32 Thus they feared the Lord, and appoynted out Priestes out of them selues for the hie places, who prepared for them sacrifices in the houses of the hie places.
Ils adoraient l’Eternel, mais ils instituèrent des prêtres de hauts-lieux, choisis parmi eux, qui célébraient le culte dans la maison des hauts-lieux.
33 They feared the Lord, but serued their gods after the maner of the nations whome they caryed thence.
Ils adoraient l’Eternel, tout en rendant un culte à leurs dieux, à l’exemple des nations qu’on avait exilées de ces contrées.
34 Vnto this day they doe after the olde maner: they neyther feare God, neyther doe after their ordinances, nor after their customes, nor after the Lawe, nor after the commandement, which the Lord commanded the children of Iaakob, whom he named Israel,
Encore aujourd’hui, ils suivent ces premières habitudes; ils n’adorent pas Dieu et n’observent ni leurs lois et leurs statuts, ni la loi et le commandement dictés par l’Eternel aux enfants de Jacob, qu’il avait surnommé Israël.
35 And with whom the Lord had made a couenant, and charged them, saying, Feare none other gods, nor bowe your selues to them, nor serue them, nor sacrifice to them:
Dieu avait conclu avec ceux-ci une alliance et leur avait fait cette recommandation: "Ne vénérez pas de divinités étrangères, ne vous prosternez pas devant elles, ne les adorez point et ne leur offrez pas de sacrifices.
36 But feare the Lord which brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power, and a stretched out arme: him feare ye, and worshippe him, and sacrifice to him.
C’Est l’Eternel, qui vous a fait sortir du pays d’Egypte par sa grande force et sa puissance déployée, c’est lui seul que vous vénérerez, c’est devant lui que vous vous prosternerez et à lui que vous sacrifierez.
37 Also keepe ye diligently the statutes and the ordinances, and the Lawe, and the commandement, which he wrote for you, that ye do them continually, and feare not other gods.
Les statuts, les ordonnances, la loi et les commandements qu’il vous a donnés par écrit, vous aurez soin de les observer toujours et vous ne révérerez pas d’autres divinités.
38 And forget not the couenant that I haue made with you, neither feare ye other gods,
L’Alliance que j’ai contractée avec vous, vous ne l’oublierez pas et vous n’adorerez pas de dieux étrangers.
39 But feare the Lord your God, and he will deliuer you out of the handes of all your enemies.
C’Est l’Eternel, votre Dieu, lui seul que vous vénérerez, et il vous sauvera de la main de tous vos ennemis."
40 Howbeit they obeyed not, but did after their olde custome.
Mais ils n’obéirent point, et ils suivirent leurs premiers errements.
41 So these nations feared the Lord, and serued their images also: so did their children, and their childrens children: as did their fathers, so do they vnto this day.
Ces peuples adorèrent donc l’Eternel tout en rendant un culte à leurs Idoles. Pareillement, leurs enfants et petits-enfants agissent comme leurs pères encore aujourd’hui.
