2 Kings 14

1 The second yeere of Ioash sonne of Iehoahaz King of Israel reigned Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah.

En la seconde année de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël, commença le règne d'Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda.

2 He was fiue and twentie yeere olde when he began to reigne, and reigned nine and twentie yeere in Ierusalem, and his mothers name was Iehoadan of Ierusalem.

Il avait alors vingt-cinq ans, et il en régna vingt-neuf en Jérusalem; le nom de sa mère était Joadim de Jérusalem.

3 And he did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, yet not like Dauid his father, but did according to all that Ioash his father had done.

Et il fit ce qui était droit aux yeux du Seigneur, mais non pas comme David, son aïeul. Il fit tout ce qu'avait fait Joas, son père.

4 Notwithstanding the hie places were not taken away: for as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense in the hie places.

Il ne détruisit point les hauts lieux; le peuple offrit encore des sacrifices, et brûla de l'encens sur les hauts lieux.

5 And when the kingdome was confirmed in his hand, he slewe his seruants which had killed the King his father.

Quand la royauté fut affermie dans ses mains, il tua ceux de ses serviteurs qui avaient frappé son père.

6 But the children of those that did slay him, he slewe not, according vnto that that is written in the booke of the Lawe of Moses, wherein the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children put to death for the fathers: but euery man shall be put to death for his owne sinne.

Mais il ne fit pas périr les fils des meurtriers, se conformant à ce qui est écrit au livre de la loi de Moïse, et à l'ordonnance du Seigneur, disant: Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort à cause des fils, et les fils ne seront pas mis à mort à cause des pères; chacun mourra pour son péché.

7 He slew also of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and tooke the citie of Sela by warre, and called the name thereof Ioktheel vnto this day.

Ensuite, il tailla en pièces, dans la vallée des Sels, dix mille hommes de l'Idumée; et il prit, en cette guerre, le rocher auquel il donna le nom de Jéthoël, nom qui lui est resté jusqu'à nos jours.

8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Iehoash the sonne of Iehoahaz, sonne of Iehu King of Israel, saying, Come, let vs see one another in the face.

Alors, Amasias envoya des messagers à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d'Israël, disant: Viens, que nous nous voyions face à face.

9 Then Iehoash the King of Israel sent to Amaziah King of Iudah, saying, The thistle that is in Lebanon, sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, Giue thy daughter to my sonne to wife: and the wilde beast that was in Lebanon, went and trode downe the thistle.

Mais Joas, roi d'Israël, fit répondre au roi de Juda: Le chardon du Liban envoya des gens au cèdre pour lui dire: Donne ta fille à mon fils pour femme; et les bêtes fauves du champ voisin passèrent, et elles foulèrent aux pieds le chardon.

10 Because thou hast smitten Edom, thine heart hath made thee proud: bragge of glory, and tary at home. why doest thou prouoke to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, and Iudah with thee?

Tu as battu l'Iduméen, et ton cœur s'est exalté; glorifie-toi tranquillement en ta demeure; à quoi bon me cherches-tu querelle pour ta perte? Tu tomberas, et avec toi Juda.

11 But Amaziah would not heare: therefore Iehoash King of Israel went vp: and he and Amaziah King of Iudah sawe one another in the face at Beth-shemesh which is in Iudah.

Amasias ne l'écouta point; et Joas, roi d'Israël, partit, et ils se virent face à face à Bethsamys en Juda.

12 And Iudah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fledde euery man to their tents.

Mais Juda tomba devant Israël, et chacun s'enfuit en sa demeure.

13 But Iehoash King of Israel tooke Amaziah King of Iudah, the sonne of Iehoash the sonne of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Ierusalem, and brake downe the wall of Ierusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, foure hundreth cubites.

Et Joas, roi d'Israël, fit prisonnier, à Bethsamys, Amasias, fils de Joas, fils d'Ochozias; il entra à Jérusalem, et il abattit le rempart depuis la porte d'Ephraïm jusqu'à la porte de l'angle, sur une longueur de quatre cents coudées.

14 And he tooke all the gold and siluer, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the Kings house, and the children that were in hostage, and returned to Samaria.

Il prit l'argent et l'or, et tous les ornements qu'il trouva soit dans le temple du Seigneur, soit dans le palais du roi; il se fit donner des otages, et il retourna en Samarie.

15 Concerning the rest of the acts of Iehoash which he did and his valiant deedes, and how he fought with Amaziah King of Iudah, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Quant au reste de l'histoire de Joas, et à ses combats avec Amasias, ne sont-ils pas écrits au livre des Faits et gestes des rois d'Israël?

16 And Iehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried at Samaria among the Kings of Israel: and Ieroboam his sonne reigned in his stead.

Et Joas s'endormit avec ses pères; il fut enseveli à Samarie avec les rois d'Israël, et Jéroboam, son fils, régna à sa place.

17 And Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah, liued after the death of Iehoash sonne of Iehoahaz King of Israel fifteene yeere.

Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Jérusalem, vécut encore quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël.

18 Concerning the rest of the actes of Amaziah, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Iudah?

Quant au reste de l'histoire d'Amasias, n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Faits et gestes des rois de Juda?

19 But they wrought treason against him in Ierusalem, and he fled to Lachish, but they sent after him to Lachish, and slewe him there.

Et il y eut un complot contre lui en Jérusalem; il se réfugia à Lachis, où les conjurés le poursuivirent, et ils le tuèrent dans cette ville.

20 And they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Ierusalem with his fathers in the citie of Dauid.

Puis, ils l'enlevèrent sur un char, et il fut enseveli à Jérusalem auprès de ses pères, dans la ville de David.

21 Then all the people of Iudah tooke Azariah which was sixteene yeere olde, and made him King for his father Amaziah.

Et tout le peuple de Juda fit choix d'Azarias, alors âgé de seize ans, et ils le proclamèrent roi à la place d'Amasias son père.

22 He built Elath, and restored it to Iudah, after that the King slept with his fathers.

Ce fut lui qui bâtit Elath, après l'avoir reprise pour Juda, lorsque le roi eut été déposé auprès de ses pères.

23 In the fifteenth yeere of Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah, was Ieroboam the sonne of Ioash made King ouer Israel in Samaria, and reigned one and fourtie yeere.

En la quinzième année du règne d'Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam, fils de Joas, roi d'Israël, commença un règne qui dura quarante et un ans.

24 And he did euill in the sight of the Lord: for he departed not from all the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne.

Et il fit le mal devant le Seigneur; il ne se retira pas des péchés où Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, avait fait tomber Israël.

25 He restored the coast of Israel, from the entring of Hamath, vnto the Sea of the wildernesse, according to the worde of the Lord God of Israel, which he spake by his seruant Ionah the sonne of Amittai the Prophet, which was of Gath Hepher.

Ce fut lui qui rétablit les limites d'Israël, depuis l'entrée d'Emath jusqu'à la mer d'Araba, selon la parole que le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël avait fait connaître par son serviteur le prophète Jonas, fils d'Amatbi, de Gethchopher;

26 For the Lord saw the exceeding bitter affliction of Israel, so that there was none shutte vp, nor any left, neyther yet any that could helpe Israel.

Parce que le Seigneur avait vu l'abaissement bien triste d'Israël, son petit nombre, son asservissement, son indigence et son isolement; car il n'était personne qui secourût Israël.

27 Yet the Lord had not decreed to put out the name of Israel from vnder the heauen: therefore he preserued them by the hand of Ieroboam the sonne of Ioash.

Et le Seigneur dit qu'il ne voulait pas effacer sous les cieux la race d'Israël; mais il la sauva par les mains de Jéroboam, fils de Joas.

28 Concerning the rest of the actes of Ieroboam, and all that he did, and his valiant deedes, and how he fought, and how he restored Damascus, and Hamath to Iudah in Israel, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Quant au reste de l'histoire de Jéroboam, et aux actions qu'il fit en sa puissance, et aux combats qui rendirent Damas et Emath de Juda à Israël, ne sont-ils pas écrits au livre des Faits et gestes des rois d'Israël?

29 So Ieroboam slept with his fathers, euen with the Kings of Israel, and Zachariah his sonne reigned in his steade.

Et Jéroboam s'endormit avec ses pères, avec les rois d'Israël, et Zacharias, son fils, régna à sa place.
