2 Corinthians 10

1 Nowe I Paul my selfe beseech you by the meekenes, and gentlenes of Christ, which when I am present among you am base, but am bolde toward you being absent:

Et moi-même, Paul, je vous conjure par la mansuétude et la modestie du Christ, moi qui, étant présent, parais humble parmi vous, tandis qu’absent je suis plein de hardiesse,

2 And this I require you, that I neede not to be bolde when I am present, with that same confidence, wherewith I thinke to bee bolde against some, which esteeme vs as though wee walked according to the flesh.

Je vous prie que, quand je serai présent, je n’aie pas à user sans ménagement de cette hardiesse qu’on m’impute, à l’égard de quelques-uns qui se persuadent que nous marchons selon la chair.

3 Neuerthelesse, though wee walke in the flesh, yet we doe not warre after the flesh.

Car, quoique vivant dans la chair, nous ne combattons pas selon la chair.

4 (For the weapons of our warrefare are not carnall, but mightie through God, to cast downe holdes)

Les armes de notre milice ne sont point charnelles, mais puissantes en Dieu pour la destruction des remparts; détruisant les projets,

5 Casting downe the imaginations, and euery high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captiuitie euery thought to the obedience of Christ,

Et toute hauteur qui s’élève contre la science de Dieu; et réduisant en servitude toute intelligence, sous l’obéissance du Christ;

6 And hauing ready the vengeance against all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Ayant en main de quoi punir toute désobéissance, quand votre obéissance sera complète.

7 Looke yee on things after the appearance? If any man trust in himselfe that hee is Christes, let him consider this againe of himself, that as he is Christes, euen so are we Christes.

Jugez au moins des choses, selon qu’elles paraissent. Si quelqu’un se persuade à lui-même être à Jésus Christ, qu’il pense aussi en lui-même que, comme il est au Christ, il en est ainsi de nous.

8 For though I shoulde boast somewhat more of our authoritie, which the Lord hath giuen vs for edification, and not for your destruction, I should haue no shame.

En effet, quand je me glorifierais encore un peu plus de la puissance que le Seigneur nous a donnée pour votre édification, et non pour votre destruction, je n’en rougirais pas.

9 This I say, that I may not seeme as it were to feare you with letters.

Et pour qu’on ne pense point que je veux vous effrayer par mes lettres;

10 For the letters, sayeth hee, are sore and strong, but his bodily presence is weake, and his speache is of no value.

Parce que, dit-on, ces lettres sont graves et fortes; mais, quand il est présent, il paraît chétif de corps et vulgaire de langage:

11 Let such one thinke this, that such as wee are in woorde by letters, when we are absent, such wil we be also in deede, when we are present.

Que celui qui est dans ce sentiment considère que tels nous sommes dans le langage que nous tenons par lettres, étant absents, tels aussi nous sommes de fait, étant présents.

12 For wee dare not make our selues of the nomber, or to compare our selues to them, which praise themselues: but they vnderstand not that they measure themselues with themselues, and compare themselues with themselues.

Car nous n’osons pas nous mettre au rang de plusieurs qui se recommandent eux-mêmes, ou bien nous comparer à eux; mais nous nous mesurons sur nous-mêmes, et nous nous comparons à nous-mêmes.

13 But we wil not reioyce of things, which are not within our measure, but according to the measure of the line, whereof God hath distributed vnto vs a measure to attaine euen vnto you.

Ainsi, nous ne nous glorifierons point démesurément, mais selon la mesure du partage que Dieu nous a mesuré, mesure qui consiste à être parvenus jusqu’à vous.

14 For we stretche not our selues beyonde our measure, as though wee had not attained vnto you: for euen to you also haue we come in preaching the Gospel of Christ,

Car nous ne dépassons pas nos limites, comme si nous n’étions pas parvenus jusqu’à vous, puisque nous sommes réellement arrivés jusqu’à vous en prêchant l’Evangile du Christ.

15 Not boasting of things which are without our measure: that is, of other mens labours: and we hope, when your faith shall increase, to bee magnified by you according to our line aboundantly,

Nous ne nous glorifions donc point démesurément dans les travaux d’autrui; mais nous espérons, votre foi croissant, de grandir en vous de plus en plus selon notre partage,

16 And to preache the Gospel in those regions which are beyonde you: not to reioyce in another mans line, that is, in the thinges that are prepared alreadie.

Et même d’évangéliser au-delà de vous, sans nous faire gloire, dans le partage des autres, de ce qu’ils ont préparé.

17 But let him that reioyceth, reioyce in the Lord.

Que celui qui se glorifie, se glorifie dans le Seigneur.

18 For hee that praiseth himselfe, is not alowed, but he whome the Lord praiseth.

Car ce n’est pas celui qui se recommande lui-même qui est approuvé, mais celui que Dieu recommande.
