2 Chronicles 34
1 Iosiah was eight yeere olde when hee began to reigne, and he reigned in Ierusalem one and thirtie yeere.
Josias avait huit ans lorsqu’il commença à régner, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem,
2 And he did vprightly in the sight of ye Lord, and walked in the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed neither to the right hand nor to the left.
Et il fit ce qui était droit en la présence du Seigneur, et il marcha dans les voies de David, son père, et il ne se détourna ni à droite ni à gauche.
3 And in the eight yeere of his reigne (when he was yet a childe) he began to seeke after the God of Dauid his father: and in the twelft yeere he began to purge Iudah, and Ierusalem from the hie places, and the groues, and the carued images, and molten images:
Or, la huitième année de son règne, quoiqu’il fût encore un enfant, il commença à chercher le Dieu de son père David; et, la douzième année après qu’il eut commencé à régner, il purifia Juda et Jérusalem des hauts lieux, des bois sacrés, des simulacres et des images taillées au ciseau.
4 And they brake downe in his sight the altars of Baalim, and hee caused to cut downe the images that were on hie vpon them: he brake also the groues, and the carued images, and the molten images, and stampt them to pouder, and strowed it vpon the graues of them that had sacrificed vnto them.
Et on détruisit devant lui les autels des Baalim, et quant aux simulacres qui avaient été posés dessus, on les démolit; les bois sacrés aussi, et les images taillées au ciseau, il les coupa, et les mit en pièces, puis il en dispersa les débris sur les tombeaux de ceux qui avaient accoutumé de leur immoler des victimes.
5 Also he burnt the bones of the Priests vpon their altars, and purged Iudah and Ierusalem.
Outre cela, il brûla les os des prêtres sur les autels des idoles, et il purifia Juda et Jérusalem.
6 And in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, euen vnto Naphtali, with their maules they brake all round about.
Mais de plus, dans les villes de Manassé, d’Ephraïm et de Siméon, jusqu’à Nephthali, il renversa tout.
7 And when he had destroyed the altars and the groues, and had broken and stamped to pouder the images, and had cut downe all the idoles throughout all the land of Israel, hee returned to Ierusalem.
Et lorsqu’il eut détruit les autels et les bois sacrés, brisé en morceaux les images taillées au ciseau, et démoli tous les temples dans toute la terre d’Israël, il revint à Jérusalem.
8 Then in the eightenth yere of his reigne, when hee had purged the lande and the Temple, he sent Shaphan the sonne of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the gouernour of the citie, and Ioah the sonne of Ioahaz the recorder, to repaire the house of the Lord his God.
Ainsi, l’an dix-huit de son règne, la terre ayant été déjà purifiée, et le temple du Seigneur, il envoya Saphan, fils d’Esélie, et Maasias, prince de la ville, et Joha, fils de Joachaz, qui tenait les registres, pour réparer la maison du Seigneur son Dieu;
9 And when they came to Hilkiah the hie Priest, they deliuered ye money that was brought into the house of God, which the Leuites that kept the doore, had gathered at the hand of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and of all the residue of Israel, and of all Iudah and Beniamin, and of the inhabitantes of Ierusalem.
Lesquels vinrent vers Helcias, le grand prêtre, et ayant reçu de lui l’argent qui avait été porté en la maison du Seigneur, et que les Lévites et les portiers avaient recueilli de Manassé et d’Ephraïm, de tous les restes d’Israël, de tout Juda aussi et de Benjamin, et des habitants de Jérusalem,
10 And they put it in the hands of them that should doe the worke and had the ouersight in the house of the Lord: and they gaue it to the workemen that wrought in the house of ye Lord, to repaire and amend the house.
Ils le remirent entre les mains de ceux qui présidaient aux ouvriers dans la maison du Seigneur, pour restaurer le temple et réparer toutes les ruines.
11 Euen to the workemen and to the builders gaue they it, to bye hewed stone and timber for couples and for beames of the houses, which the Kings of Iudah had destroyed.
Mais ceux-ci le donnèrent aux ouvriers et aux tailleurs de pierres, afin qu’ils en achetassent des pierres des carrières, et des bois pour les assemblages de l’édifice et pour la charpente des maisons qu’avaient détruites les rois de Juda.
12 And the men did the worke faithfully, and the ouerseers of them were Iahath and Obadiah the Leuites, of the children of Merari, and Zechariah, and Meshullam, of the children of the Kohathites to set it forward: and of the Leuites all that could skill of instruments of musike.
Et ils faisaient fidèlement toutes ces choses. Or étaient préposés à ceux qui travaillaient, Jahath et Abdias, d’entre les fils de Mérari; Zacharie et Mosollam, d’entre les fils de Caath, qui pressaient l’ouvrage; tous Lévites sachant jouer des instruments.
13 And they were ouer the bearers of burdens, and them that set forwarde all the workemen in euery worke: and of the Leuites were scribes, and officers and porters.
Mais au-dessus de ceux qui portaient les fardeaux pour divers’ usages, étaient des scribes et des maîtres portiers d’entre les Lévites.
14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the Priest found the booke of the Lawe of the Lord giuen by the hand of Moses.
Or, comme l’on transférait l’argent qui avait été déposé dans le temple du Seigneur, Helcias, le prêtre, trouva le livre de la loi du Seigneur, écrit de la main de Moïse.
15 Therefore Hilkiah answered and sayde to Shaphan the chaceler, I haue found the booke of the Law in the house of the Lord: and Hilkiah gaue the booke to Shaphan.
Et il dit à Saphan, le scribe: J’ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison du Seigneur, et il le lui remit.
16 And Shaphan caried the booke to the King, and brought the King worde againe, saying, All that is committed to the hand of thy seruants, that do they.
Et Saphan porta le volume au roi, et il lui annonça, disant: Tout ce que vous avez mis en la main de vos serviteurs, le voilà qui s’accomplit.
17 For they haue gathered the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and haue deliuered it into the handes of the ouerseers, and to the handes of the workemen.
Pour l’argent qui a été trouvé dans la maison du Seigneur, ils l’ont fondu; puis il a été donné aux préposés des ouvriers et de ceux qui font les divers ouvrages.
18 Also Shaphan ye chanceler declared to the King, saying, Hilkiah the Priest hath giuen mee a booke, and Shaphan read it before the King.
Outre cela Helcias, le prêtre, m’a remis ce livre. Lorsqu’il l’eut lu, le roi présent,
19 And when the King had heard the wordes of the Lawe, he tare his clothes.
Et lorsque le roi eut entendu les paroles de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements;
20 And the King commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan, and Abdon the sonne of Micah, and Shaphan the chanceler, and Asaiah the Kings seruant, saying,
Et il ordonna à Helcias, à Ahicam, fils de Saphan, à Abdon, fils de Micha, à Saphan, le scribe, et à Asaas, serviteur du roi, disant:
21 Goe and enquire of the Lord for me, and for the rest in Israel and Iudah, concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is fallen vpon vs, because our fathers haue not kept the worde of the Lord, to doe after all that is written in this booke.
Allez, et priez le Seigneur pour moi et pour les restes d’Israël et de Juda, au sujet de toutes les paroles de ce livre qui a été trouvé; car la colère du Seigneur s’est épanchée sur nous, parce que nos pères n’ont point écouté les paroles du Seigneur, afin d’accomplir tout ce qui a été écrit dans ce volume.
22 Then Hilkiah and they that the King had appoynted, went to Huldah the Prophetesse ye wife of Shallum, the sonne of Tokhath, the sonne of Hasrah keeper of the wardrobe (and she dwelt in Ierusalem within the colledge) and they communed hereof with her.
Helcias donc s’en alla, et en même temps ceux qui avaient été envoyés par le roi vers Olda, la prophétesse, femme de Sellum, fils de Thécuath, fils de Hasra, le gardien des vêtements, laquelle demeurait à Jérusalem, dans la Seconde; et ils lui dirent les paroles rapportées plus haut.
23 And shee answered them, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Tell yee the man that sent you to me,
Olda leur répondit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël: Dites à l’homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi:
24 Thus saith the Lord, Beholde, I will bring euill vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitantes thereof, euen all the curses, that are written in the booke which they haue read before the King of Iudah:
Le Seigneur dit ceci: Voilà que moi j’amènerai sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants des maux, et toutes les malédictions qui sont écrites dans ce livre qu’on a lu devant le roi de Juda;
25 Because they haue forsaken me, and burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger mee with al the workes of their hands, therefore shall my wrath fall vpon this place, and shall not be quenched.
Parce qu’ils m’ont abandonné, et qu’ils ont sacrifié à des dieux étrangers, pour me provoquer au courroux par toutes les œuvres de leurs mains, c’est pourquoi mon courroux s’épanchera sur ce lieu, et il ne s’apaisera point.
26 But to the King of Iudah, who sent you to enquire of the Lord, so shall ye say vnto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The words which thou hast heard, shall come to passe.
Quant au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés pour implorer le Seigneur, vous lui direz: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël: Parce que tu as écouté les paroles de ce volume,
27 But because thine heart did melt, and thou didest humble thy selfe before God, when thou heardest his wordes against this place and against the inhabitantes thereof, and humbledst thy selfe before mee and tarest thy clothes, and weptest before mee, I haue also heard it, sayth the Lord.
Que ton cœur a été attendri, que tu t’es humilié en la présence de Dieu, au sujet de ce qui a été dit contre ce lieu et les habitants de Jérusalem, que tu as révéré ma face, déchiré tes vêtements, et pleuré devant moi, moi aussi je t’ai exaucé, dit le Seigneur.
28 Beholde, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt bee put in thy graue in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the euill, which I will bring vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitants of the same. Thus they brought ye King word againe.
Car bientôt je te réunirai à tes pères, et tu seras porté dans ta sépulture en paix, et tes yeux ne verront pas tout le mal que je vais amener sur cette ville et sur ses habitants. C’est pourquoi ils rapportèrent au roi tout ce qu’elle avait dit.
29 Then the King sent and gathered all the Elders of Iudah and Ierusalem.
Or le roi, tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem convoqués,
30 And the King went vp into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and the Priests and the Leuites, and all the people from the greatest to the smallest, and hee read in their eares all the wordes of the booke of the couenant that was found in the house of the Lord.
Monta à la maison du Seigneur, et aussi tous les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, les prêtres et les Lévites, et tout le peuple, depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand; lesquels écoutant dans la maison du Seigneur, le roi lut toutes les paroles du volume;
31 And the King stood by his pillar, and made a couenant before the Lord, to walke after the Lord, and to keepe his commandements, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soule, and that he would accomplish the wordes of the couenant written in the same booke.
Et, se tenant debout sur son tribunal, il fit l’alliance devant le Seigneur, afin qu’il marchât après lui, qu’il gardât ses préceptes, ses lois et ses ordonnances en tout son cœur et en toute son âme, et qu’il fît tout ce qui était écrit dans ce volume quil avait lu.
32 And he caused all that were found in Ierusalem, and Beniamin to stande to it: and the inhabitants of Ierusalem did according to the couenant of God, euen the God of their fathers.
Il adjura aussi à ce sujet tous ceux qui s’étaient trouvés dans Jérusalem et Benjamin: et les habitants de Jérusalem firent selon l’alliance du Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères.
33 So Iosiah tooke away al the abominations out of all the countreis that perteined to the children of Israel, and compelled all that were found in Israel, to serue the Lord their God: so all his dayes they turned not backe from the Lord God of their fathers.
Josias enleva donc toutes les abominations de toutes les contrées des enfants d’Israël, et il fit que tous ceux qui restaient encore en Israël servirent le Seigneur leur Dieu. Ainsi, durant tous ses jours, ils ne se séparèrent point du Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères.
