2 Chronicles 24

1 Ioash was seuen yere olde, when he began to reigne, and he reigned fourty yeere in Ierusalem: and his mothers name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

Sju år gamall var Joas då han vart konge, og fyrti år styrde han i Jerusalem. Mor hans heitte Sibja og var frå Be’erseba.

2 And Ioash did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, all the dayes of Iehoiada the Priest.

Joas gjorde det som rett var i Herrens augo so lenge presten Jojada livde.

3 And Iehoiada tooke him two wiues, and he begate sonnes and daughters.

Jojada tok tvo konor åt honom, og han fekk søner og døtter.

4 And afterward it came into Ioash mind, to renew the house of the Lord.

Sidan kom Joas på den tanken at han vilde setja i stand Herrens hus.

5 And he assembled the Priests and the Leuites, and said to them, Goe out vnto the cities of Iudah, and gather of all Israel money to repaire the house of your God, from yeere to yeere, and haste the thing: but the Leuites hasted not.

Difor stemde han saman prestarne og levitarne og sagde til deim: «Drag ut til Juda-byarne og samla i inn pengar ifrå heile Israel til å vøla på huset åt dykkar Gud, etter som det krevst år etter år. Og skunda dykk med å gjera dette!» Men levitarne skunda seg ikkje med det.

6 Therefore the King called Iehoiada, the chiefe, and said vnto him, Why hast thou not required of the Leuites to bring in out of Iudah and Ierusalem the taxe of Moses the seruant of the Lord, and of the Congregation of Israel, for the Tabernacle of the testimonie?

Då kalla kongen til seg øvstepresten Jojada og sagde til honom: «Kvifor hev du ikkje sytt for at levitarne koma med den skatten frå Juda og Jerusalem som Moses, Herrens tenar, lagde på Israels-lyden til beste for kunngjeringstjeldet?

7 For wicked Athaliah, and her children brake vp the house of God: and all the things that were dedicate for the house of the Lord, did they bestowe vpon Baalim.

For sønerne åt denne ugudlege Atalja, dei hev brote seg inn i Guds hus, ja, alt som var vigt til Herrens hus, hev dei bruka på Ba’als-gudarne.»

8 Therefore the King commanded, and they made a chest, and set it at the gate of the house of the Lord without.

Kongen baud difor at dei skulde laga ei kista og setja upp utanfor porten til Herrens hus.

9 And they made proclamation thorow Iudah and Ierusalem, to bring vnto the Lord the taxe of Moses the seruant of God, layde vpon Israel in the wildernesse.

Og det vart lyst ut i Juda og Jerusalem at dei skulde føra den skatten til Herren som Moses, Guds tenar, hadde lagt på Israels-borni i øydemarki.

10 And all the princes and all the people reioyced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, vntill they had finished.

Alle hovdingarne og heile folket bar då pengarne fram med gleda, og kasta i kista til dess ho var full.

11 And when it was time, they brought the chest vnto the Kings officer by the hand of the Leuites: and when they saw that there was much siluer, then the Kings Scribe (and one appoynted by the hie Priest) came and emptied the chest, and tooke it, and caried it to his place againe: thus they did day by day, and gathered siluer in abundance.

Og når dei såg at det var mykje sylv i henne, tok levitarne kista og førde henne til det kongelege tilsynet, og då kom den kongelege skrivaren og den tilsynsmannen som øvstepresten hadde sett til, kvar gong og tømde kista; og so tok dei henne og førde hende attende på plassen sin. Soleis gjorde dei gong etter gong, og dei samla ei stor mengd med pengar.

12 And the King and Iehoiada gaue it to such as did the labour and worke in the house of the Lord, and hyred masons and carpenters to repayre the house of the Lord: they gaue it also to workers of yron and brasse, to repayre the house of the Lord.

So gav kongen og Jojada deim til arbeidsformennerne ved arbeidet på Herrens hus, og dei leigde steinhoggarar og timbremenner til å setja i stand Herrens hus, og jarn- og koparsmedar til å vøla på Herrens hus.

13 So the workemen wrought, and the worke amended through their hands: and they restored the house of God to his state, and strengthened it.

Arbeidsformennerne tok fat på arbeidet, so at verket hadde framgang i deira hand, og dei bygde upp Guds hus soleis som det hadde vore planlagt, og fekk det godt i stand.

14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the siluer before the King and Iehoiada, and he made thereof vessels for the house of the Lord, euen vessels to minister, both morters and incense cuppes, and vessels of golde, and of siluer: and they offred burnt offrings in the house of the Lord continually all the dayes of Iehoiada.

Då dei var ferdige med det, bar dei resten av pengarne til kongen og Jojada, og han let gjera gogner av det til Herrens hus, gogner til tenesta og offeri, og skåler og kjerald av gull og sylv. Og dei ofra brennoffer i Herrens hus stødt so lenge Jojada livde.

15 But Iehoiada waxed olde, and was ful of dayes and dyed. An hundreth and thirtie yeere olde was he when he dyed.

Men Jojada vart gamall og mett av dagar og døydde; hundrad og tretti år gamall var han då han døydde.

16 And they buried him in the citie of Dauid with the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

Dei gravlagde honom i Davidsbyen hjå kongarne, for di han hadde gjort vel imot Israel og mot Gud og hans hus.

17 And after the death of Iehoiada, came the princes of Iudah, and did reuerence to the King, and the King hearkened vnto them.

Då no Jojada var avliden, kom hovdingarne i Juda og kasta seg ned for kongen; og kongen høyrde viljugt på deim.

18 And they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and serued groues and idoles: and wrath came vpon Iudah and Ierusalem, because of this their trespasse.

Då gjekk dei ifrå huset åt Herren, sin fedregud, og dyrka Astarte-bilæti og dei andre avgudarne. Difor kom det vreide yver Juda og Jerusalem for denne syndi deira.

19 And God sent Prophets amog the, to bring them againe vnto the Lord: and they made protestation among them, but they would not heare.

Og han sende profetar til deim til å føra deim attende til Herren, og dei tala ålvorsamt til deim, men dei høyrde ikkje på deim.

20 And the Spirit of God came vpon Zechariah the sonne of Iehoiada the Priest, which stoode aboue the people, and sayde vnto them, Thus sayth God, Why transgresse ye the commandements of the Lord? surely ye shall not prosper: because ye haue forsaken the Lord, he also hath forsaken you.

Då tok Guds ande presten Zakarja, son åt Jojada, so han stod fram for folket og sagde til deim: «So segjer Gud: «Kvifor gjer det imot Herrens bod og slepper ifrå dykk lukka! For di de hev gjenge ifrå honom, hev han gjenge frå dykk.»»

21 Then they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandement of the King, in the court of the house of the Lord.

Då svor dei seg saman imot honom, og steina honom i fyregarden til Herrens hus etter bod frå kongen.

22 Thus Ioash the King remembred not the kindnesse which Iehoiada his father had done to him, but slewe his sonne. And when he dyed, he sayd, The Lord looke vpon it, and require it.

For kong Joas gløymde den kjærleiken som Jojada, far hans, hadde synt imot honom, og han drap son hans. Men då han døydde, ropa han: «Herren sjå og straffe!»

23 And when the yeere was out, the host of Aram came vp against him, and they came against Iudah and Ierusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoyle of them vnto the King of Damascus.

Då året var ute, drog syrarheren imot honom, og dei kom til Juda og Jerusalem og øydde ut alle hovdingarne i folket og sende heile herfanget sitt til kongen i Damaskus.

24 Though the armie of Aram came with a small company of men, yet the Lord deliuered a very great armie into their hand, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers: and they gaue sentence against Ioash.

Endå syrarheren var fåment då han kom, so gav Herren ein ovstor her i deira vald, for di dei hadde gjenge ifrå Herren, sin fedregud, og soleis sette dei i verk domen yver Joas.

25 And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases) his owne seruants conspired against him for the blood of the children of Iehoiada the Priest, and slewe him on his bed, and he dyed, and they buryed him in the citie of Dauid: but they buryed him not in the sepulchres of the Kings.

Og då dei drog burt ifrå honom - for dei let honom etter seg i tunge lidingar - då gjorde hirdmennerne hans ei samansverjing imot honom, for di han hadde drepe sønerne åt presten Jojada, og dei drap honom på lega hans. Soleis døydde han, og dei gravlagde honom i Davidsbyen, men ikkje i kongegraverne.

26 And these are they that conspired against him, Zabad the sonne of Shimrath an Ammonitesse, and Iehozabad the sonne of Shimrith a Moabitesse.

Dei som svor seg saman imot honom, var Zabad, son åt ammonitkvinna Simat, og Jozabad, son åt moabitkvinna Simrit.

27 But his sonnes, and the summe of the taxe gathered by him, and the foundation of the house of God, behold, they are written in the storie of the booke of the Kings. And Amaziah his sonne reigned in his steade.

Um sønerne hans og alle profetordi imot honom og grunnleggjingi av Guds hus, det finst uppskrive i utleggjingi til kongeboki. Amasja, son hans, vart konge i staden hans.
