2 Chronicles 20
1 After this also came the children of Moab and the children of Ammon, and with them of the Ammonites against Iehoshaphat to battell.
Darnach aber rückten die Moabiter und die Ammoniter und mit ihnen welche von den Meunitern gegen Josaphat an, um ihn anzugreifen.
2 Then there came that tolde Iehoshaphat, saying, There commeth a great multitude against thee from beyonde the Sea, out of Aram: and beholde, they bee in Hazzon Tamar, which is En-gedi.
Als nun Boten kamen und Josaphat meldeten: Von jenseits des Meers, von Edom, rückt ein gewaltiger Haufe gegen dich an, und sie sind schon in Hazezon-Thamar (das ist Engedi)! -
3 And Iehoshaphat feared, and set him selfe to seeke the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Iudah.
da geriet Josaphat in Furcht und schickte sich an, Jahwe zu suchen, und ließ in ganz Juda ein Fasten ausrufen.
4 And Iudah gathered them selues together to aske counsel of the Lord: they came euen out of all the cities of Iudah to inquire of the Lord,
Da versammelten sich die Judäer, um Jahwe um Hilfe anzugehen; auch aus allen Städten kamen sie, Jahwe zu suchen.
5 And Iehoshaphat stoode in the Congregation of Iudah and Ierusalem in the house of the Lord before the new court,
Josaphat aber trat in der Volksgemeinde Judas und Jerusalems, im Tempel Jahwes, vor den neuen Vorhof hin
6 And saide, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heauen? and reignest not thou on all the kingdomes of the heathen? and in thine hande is power and might, and none is able to withstand thee.
und sprach: Jahwe, du Gott unserer Väter, du bist ja Gott im Himmel, du der Herrscher über alle Reiche der Heiden! In deiner Hand ist Kraft und Stärke, und niemand vermag dir gegenüber standzuhalten.
7 Diddest not thou our God cast out ye inhabitants of this lande before thy people Israel, and gauest it to the seede of Abraham thy friende for euer?
Du, unser Gott, hast ja die Bewohner dieses Landes vor deinem Volk Israel vertrieben und es den Nachkommen Abrahams, deines Freundes, für immer übergeben.
8 And they dwelt therein, and haue built thee a Sanctuarie therein for thy Name, saying,
Und sie ließen sich darin nieder und erbauten dir darin ein Heiligtum für deinen Namen, indem sie sprachen:
9 If euill come vpon vs, as the sworde of iudgement, or pestilence, or famine, we will stande before this house and in thy presence (for thy name is in this house) and will crie vnto thee in our tribulation, and thou wilt heare and helpe.
Wenn uns ein Unglück trifft, Krieg, Strafgericht, Pest oder Hungersnot, so wollen wir vor diesen Tempel und vor dich treten - denn dein Name wohnt in diesem Tempel! - und dich in unserer Not anflehen, damit du uns hörest und errettest.
10 And now beholde, the children of Ammon and Moab, and mount Seir, by whome thou wouldest not let Israel goe, when they came out of the land of Egypt: but they turned aside from them, and destroyed them not:
Nun sind da die Ammoniter und Moabiter und die vom Gebirge Seïr, deren Land du die Israeliten, als sie aus Ägypten kamen, nicht betreten ließest; vielmehr wichen sie ihnen aus und vernichteten sie nicht.
11 Behold, I say, they reward vs, in comming to cast vs out of thine inheritance, which thou hast caused vs to inherit.
Und jetzt üben sie Vergeltung gegen uns und kommen, uns aus deinem Besitztum, das du uns verliehen hast, zu vertreiben!
12 O our God, wilt thou not iudge them? for there is no strength in vs to stand before this great multitude that commeth against vs, neither doe wee knowe what to doe: but our eyes are toward thee.
O unser Gott! Willst du sie nicht strafen? Denn wir sind kraftlos gegenüber diesem gewaltigen Haufen, der gegen uns anrückt; wir wissen nicht, was wir thun sollen, sondern auf dich sind unsere Augen gerichtet!
13 And all Iudah stoode before the Lord with their yong ones, their wiues, and their children.
Sämtliche Judäer aber standen da vor Jahwe samt ihren kleinen Kindern, ihren Frauen und ihren Söhnen.
14 And Iahaziel the sonne of Zechariah the sonne of Benaiah, the sonne of Ieiel, the sonne of Mattaniah, a Leuite of the sonnes of Asaph was there, vpon whome came the Spirite of ye Lord, in the middes of the Congregation.
Da kam der Geist Jahwes inmitten der Volksgemeinde über Jahasïel, den Sohn Sacharjas, des Sohnes Benajas, des Sohnes Jeïels, des Sohnes Mattanjas, den Leviten aus den Nachkommen Asaphs,
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Iudah, and ye inhabitantes of Ierusalem, and thou, King Iehoshaphat: thus saith the Lord vnto you, Feare you not, neither be afraide for this great multitude: for the battel is not yours, but Gods.
und er rief: Merkt auf, all' ihr Judäer und ihr Bewohner Jerusalems, und du, o König Josaphat! So spricht Jahwe zu euch: Ihr braucht euch nicht zu fürchten, noch zu erschrecken vor diesem gewaltigen Haufen, denn nicht euch liegt der Kampf ob, sondern Gotte!
16 To morowe goe yee downe against them: beholde, they come vp by the cleft of Ziz, and ye shall finde them at the ende of the brooke before the wildernesse of Ieruel.
Zieht morgen gegen sie hinab; sie werden auf der Steige von Ziz anrücken, und ihr werdet auf sie stoßen am Ende des Bachthals östlich von der Steppe von Jeruel.
17 Ye shall not neede to fight in this battell: stand still, moue not, and behold the saluation of the Lord towardes you: O Iudah, and Ierusalem, feare ye not, neither be afraid: to morow goe out against them, and the Lord wilbe with you.
Aber nicht euch liegt es ob, bei diesem Anlaß zu kämpfen; nehmt nur Aufstellung dort, so werdet ihr die Errettung sehen, die Jahwe euch, ihr Judäer und Jerusalemiten, widerfahren läßt. Fürchtet euch nicht und erschrecket nicht! Zieht ihnen morgen entgegen, und Jahwe wird mit euch sein!
18 Then Iehoshaphat bowed downe with his face to the earth, and all Iudah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem fell downe before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.
Da verneigte sich Josaphat mit dem Angesichte bis zur Erde, und ganz Juda und die Bewohner Jerusalems warfen sich vor Jahwe nieder, um Jahwe anzubeten.
19 And the Leuites of the children of the Kohathites and of the childre of the Corhites stood vp to prayse the Lord God of Israel with a loude voyce on hie.
Sodann erhoben sich die Leviten, die zu den Nachkommen der Kahathiter und den Nachkommen der Korhiter gehörten, um Jahwe, den Gott Israels, mit überaus lauter Stimme zu preisen.
20 And when they arose early in the morning, they went forth to the wildernesse of Tekoa: and as they departed, Iehoshaphat stoode and sayde, Heare ye me, O Iudah, and ye inhabitants of Ierusalem: put your trust in the Lord your God, and ye shalbe assured: beleeue his Prophets, and ye shall prosper.
Am andern Morgen früh aber zogen sie nach der Steppe von Thekoa, und als sie auszogen, trat Josaphat hin und sprach: Hört mich an, ihr Judäer und ihr Bewohner Jerusalems! Vertraut auf Jahwe, euren Gott, so werdet ihr Bestand haben; vertraut auf seine Propheten, so werdet ihr Gelingen haben!
21 And when he had consulted with the people, and appoynted singers vnto the Lord, and them that should prayse him that is in the beautifull Sanctuarie, in going forth before the men of armes, and saying, Prayse ye the Lord, for his mercy lasteth for euer,
Sodann verabredete er sich mit dem Volk und bestellte Sänger Jahwes, daß sie im heiligen Schmucke den Lobpreis anstimmten, während sie vor den Kampfgerüsteten einherzögen, und sprächen: Danket Jahwe, denn ewig währt seine Gnade!
22 And when they began to shoute, and to prayse, the Lord layed ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Iudah, and they slewe one another.
Sobald sie aber mit dem Jubelruf und Lobpreis begonnen hatten, sorgte Jahwe für Auflauerer gegen die Ammoniter, Moabiter und die vom Gebirge Seïr, die gegen Juda anrückten, und sie wurden geschlagen.
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab rose against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to slay and to destroy them and when they had made an end of the inhabitantes of Seir, euery one helped to destroy another.
Und zwar standen die Ammoniter und Moabiter gegen die Bewohner des Gebirges Seïr, sie niederzumetzeln und zu vertilgen, und als sie mit den Bewohnern Seïrs fertig waren, halfen sie sich einander zum Verderben.
24 And when Iudah came towarde Mizpah in the wildernes, they looked vnto the multitude: and behold, the carkeises were fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
Als nun die Judäer auf die Höhe kamen, von der aus man die Steppe übersehen konnte, und nach dem Völkerhaufen ausschauten, da fand sich, daß es lauter Leichen waren, die am Boden lagen, ohne daß einer entronnen war.
25 And when Iehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoyle of them, they founde among them in abundance both of substance and also of bodies laden with precious iewels, which they tooke for themselues, till they could cary no more: they were three dayes in gathering of the spoyle: for it was much.
Josaphat aber kam mit seinen Kriegern herzu, um als Beute zu nehmen, was sie bei sich hatten; da fanden sie eine Menge Vieh und Fahrhabe und Kleider und kostbare Geräte und nahmen sich davon so viel, daß es nicht fortzubringen war. Und so waren sie drei Tage mit der Plünderung beschäftigt - so groß war die Beute.
26 And in the fourth day they assembled themselues in the valley of Berachah: for there they blessed the Lord: therefore they called the name of that place, The valley of Berachah vnto this day.
Am vierten Tag aber versammelten sie sich im Lobpreisthale. Denn dort preisen sie Jahwe; darum nennt man jene Örtlichkeit bis auf den heutigen Tag “Lobpreisthal”.
27 Then euery man of Iudah and Ierusalem returned with Iehoshaphat their head, to goe againe to Ierusalem with ioy: for the Lord had made them to reioyce ouer their enemies.
Hierauf wandten alle Männer von Juda und Jerusalem und Josaphat an ihrer Spitze um, um voller Freude nach Jerusalem zurückzukehren, denn Jahwe hatte sie in betreff ihrer Feinde mit Freude erfüllt.
28 And they came to Ierusalem with viols and with harpes, and with trumpets, euen vnto the house of the Lord.
Und so kamen sie nach Jerusalem mit Harfen, Zithern und Trompeten zum Tempel Jahwes.
29 And the feare of God was vpon all the kingdomes of the earth, whe they had heard that the Lord had fought against ye enemies of Israel.
Alle Reiche der Heidenländer aber befiel ein Schrecken Gottes, als sie vernahmen, daß Jahwe selbst mit den Feinden Israels gestritten hatte.
30 So the kingdom of Iehoshaphat was quiet, and his God gaue him rest on euery side.
Und so herrschte Josaphat in Frieden, und sein Gott verschaffte ihm rings umher Ruhe.
31 And Iehoshaphat reigned ouer Iudah, and was fiue and thirtie yeere olde, when he began to reigne: and reigned fiue and twentie yeere in Ierusalem, and his mothers name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
Und Josaphat herrschte über Juda; fünfunddreißig Jahre regierte er zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter aber hieß Asuba, die Tochter Silhis.
32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not therefrom, doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.
Und er wandelte auf dem Wege seines Vaters Asa und wich nicht von ihm ab, indem er that, was Jahwe wohlgefiel.
33 Howbeit the hie places were not taken away: for the people had not yet prepared their hearts vnto the God of their fathers.
Nur wurden die Höhen nicht abgeschafft, und noch immer hatte das Volk seinen Sinn nicht auf den Gott seiner Väter gerichtet.
34 Concerning the rest of the actes of Iehoshaphat first and last, beholde, they are written in the booke of Iehu the sonne of Hanani, which is mentioned in the booke of the kings of Israel.
Die übrige Geschichte Josaphats aber, die frühere wie die spätere, findet sich aufgezeichnet in der Geschichte Jehus, des Sohnes Hananis, die in das Buch der Könige Israels eingerückt ist.
35 Yet after this did Iehoshaphat King of Iudah ioyne himselfe with Ahaziah King of Israel, who was giuen to do euill.
Darnach verbündete sich Josaphat, der König von Juda, mit Ahasja, dem Könige von Israel; derselbe handelte frevelhaft.
36 And he ioyned with him, to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the shippes in Ezion Gaber.
Er nahm ihn aber zum Bundesgenossen, um Schiffe für die Fahrt nach Tarsis zu bauen, und so bauten sie Schiffe zu Ezeon-Geber.
37 Then Eliezer ye sonne of Dodauah of Mareshah prophecied against Iehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast ioyned thy selfe with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy workes. and the shippes were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
Da weissagte Elieser, der Sohn Dodawahus, von Maresa wider Josaphat und sprach: Weil du dich mit Ahasja verbündet hast, wird Jahwe dein Machwerk zertrümmern! Und die Schiffe scheiterten und vermochten nicht, nach Tarsis zu fahren.
