1 Samuel 7
1 Then the men of Kiriath-iearim came, and tooke vp the Arke of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill: and they sanctified Eleazar his sonne, to keepe the Arke of the Lord.
Ceux donc de Kirjath-jéharim vinrent et firent monter l'Arche de l'Eternel, et la mirent dans la maison d'Abinadab au coteau; et ils consacrèrent Eléazar son fils pour garder l'Arche de l'Eternel.
2 (For while the Arke abode in Kiriath-iearim, the time was long, for it was twentie yeeres) and al the house of Israel lamented after ye Lord.
Or il arriva que depuis le jour que l'Arche de l'Eternel fut posée à Kirjath-jéharim, il se passa un long temps, savoir vingt années, et toute la maison d'Israël soupira après l'Eternel.
3 Then Samuel spake vnto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye be come againe vnto the Lord with all your heart, put away the strange gods from among you, and Ashtaroth, and direct your hearts vnto the Lord, and serue him only, and he shall deliuer you out of the hand of ye Philistims.
Et Samuel parla à toute la maison d'Israël, en disant: Si vous vous retournez de tout votre cœur à l'Eternel, ôtez du milieu de vous les dieux des étrangers, et Hastaroth, et rangez votre cœur à l'Eternel, et le servez lui seul; et il vous délivrera de la main des Philistins.
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and serued the Lord onely.
Alors les enfants d'Israël ôtèrent les Bahalins, et Hastaroth, et ils servirent l'Eternel seul.
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you vnto the Lord.
Et Samuel dit: Assemblez tout Israël à Mitspa, et je prierai l'Eternel pour vous.
6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drewe water and powred it out before the Lord, and fasted the same day, and sayd there, We haue sinned against the Lord. And Samuel iudged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
Ils s'assemblèrent donc à Mitspa; et ils y puisèrent de l'eau, qu'ils répandirent devant l'Eternel, et ils jeûnèrent ce jour-là; et dirent: Nous avons péché contre l'Eternel. Et Samuel jugea les enfants d'Israël à Mitspa.
7 When the Philistims heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the princes of the Philistims went vp against Israel: and when the children of Israel heard that, they were afraide of the Philistims.
Or quand les Philistins eurent appris que les enfants d'Israël étaient assemblés à Mitspa, les Gouverneurs des Philistins montèrent contre Israël; ce que les enfants d'Israël ayant appris, ils eurent peur des Philistins.
8 And the children of Israel sayd to Samuel, Cease not to crie vnto the Lord our God for vs, that hee may saue vs out of the hand of the Philistims.
Et les enfants d'Israël dirent à Samuel: Ne cesse point de crier pour nous à l'Eternel notre Dieu, afin qu'il nous délivre de la main des Philistins.
9 Then Samuel tooke a sucking lambe, and offered it all together for a burnt offering vnto the Lord, and Samuel cryed vnto the Lord for Israel, and the Lord heard him.
Alors Samuel prit un agneau de lait, et l'offrit tout entier à l'Eternel en holocauste; et Samuel cria à l'Eternel pour Israël, et l'Eternel l'exauça.
10 And as Samuel offered the burnt offering, the Philistims came to fight against Israel: but the Lord thundred with a great thunder that day vpon the Philistims, and scattered them: so they were slaine before Israel.
Il arriva donc comme Samuel offrait l'holocauste, que les Philistins s'approchèrent pour combattre contre Israël, mais l'Eternel fit gronder en ce jour-là un grand tonnerre sur les Philistins, et les mit en déroute, et ils furent battus devant Israël.
11 And the men of Israel went from Mizpeh and pursued the Philistims, and smote them vntill they came vnder Beth-car.
Et ceux d'Israël sortirent de Mitspa, et poursuivirent les Philistins, et les frappèrent jusqu'au-dessous de Bethcar.
12 Then Samuel tooke a stone and pitched it betweene Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name thereof, Eben-ezer, and he sayd, Hitherto hath the Lord holpen vs.
Alors Samuel prit une pierre, et la mit entre Mitspa et le rocher; et il appela le nom de ce lieu-là Ebenhézer, et dit: L'Eternel nous a secourus jusqu'en ce lieu-ci.
13 So the Philistims were brought vnder, and they came no more againe into the coastes of Israel: and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistims all the dayes of Samuel.
Et les Philistins furent abaissés, et ils ne vinrent plus depuis ce temps-là au pays d'Israël; et la main de l'Eternel fut sur les Philistins tout le temps de Samuel.
14 Also the cities which the Philistims had taken from Israel, were restored to Israel, from Ekron euen to Gath: and Israel deliuered the coastes of the same out of the hands of the Philistims: and there was peace betweene Israel and the Amorites.
Et les villes que les Philistins avaient prises sur Israël, retournèrent à Israël, depuis Hékron, jusqu'à Gath, avec leurs confins. [Samuel donc] délivra Israël de la main des Philistins, et il y eut paix entre Israël et les Amorrhéens.
15 And Samuel iudged Israel all the dayes of his life,
Et Samuel jugea Israël tous les jours de sa vie.
16 And went about yeere by yere to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and iudged Israel in all those places.
Et il allait tous les ans faire le tour à Bethel, et à Guilgal, et à Mitspa, et il jugeait Israël en tous ces lieux-là.
17 Afterward hee returned to Ramah: for there was his house, and there he iudged Israel: also he built an altar there vnto the Lord.
Puis il s'en retournait à Rama, parce que sa maison était là, et il jugeait là Israël; et il y bâtit un autel à l'Eternel.
