1 Samuel 23

1 Then they tolde Dauid, saying, Beholde, the Philistims fight against Keilah, and spoyle the barnes.

Or vennero a dire a Davide: “Ecco, i Filistei hanno attaccato Keila e saccheggiano le aie”.

2 Therfore Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shal I goe and smite these Philistims? And the Lord answered Dauid, Go and smite the Philistims, and saue Keilah.

E Davide consultò l’Eterno, dicendo: “Andrò io a sconfiggere questi Filistei?” L’Eterno rispose a Davide: “Va’, sconfiggi i Filistei, e salva Keila”.

3 And Dauids men said vnto him, See, we be afrayde here in Iudah, howe much more if we come to Keilah against the hoste of ye Philistims?

Ma la gente di Davide gli disse: “Tu vedi che qui in Giuda abbiam paura; e che sarà se andiamo a Keila contro le schiere de’ Filistei?”

4 Then Dauid asked counsell of the Lord againe. And the Lord answered him, and sayd, Arise, go downe to Keilah: for I wil deliuer the Philistims into thine hand.

Davide consultò di nuovo l’Eterno, e l’Eterno gli rispose e gli disse: “Lèvati, scendi a Keila, perché io darò i Filistei nelle tue mani”.

5 So Dauid and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistims, and brought away their cattel, and smote them with a great slaughter: thus Dauid saued the inhabitants of Keilah.

Davide dunque andò con la sua gente a Keila, combatté contro i Filistei, portò via il loro bestiame, e inflisse loro una grande sconfitta. Così Davide liberò gli abitanti di Keila.

6 (And when Abiathar the sonne of Ahimelech fled to Dauid to Keilah, he brought an Ephod with him)

Quando Abiathar, figliuolo di Ahimelec, si rifugiò presso Davide a Keila, portò seco l’efod.

7 And it was tolde Saul that Dauid was come to Keilah, and Saul sayd, God hath deliuered him into mine hand: for he is shut in, seeing he is come into a citie that hath gates and barres.

Saul fu informato che Davide era giunto a Keila. E Saul disse: “Iddio lo dà nelle mie mani, poiché è venuto a rinchiudersi in una città che ha porte e sbarre”.

8 Then Saul called all the people together to warre, for to go downe to Keilah, and to besiege Dauid and his men.

Saul dunque convocò tutto il popolo per andare alla guerra, per scendere a Keila e cinger d’assedio Davide e la sua gente.

9 And Dauid hauing knowledge that Saul imagined mischiefe against him, saide to Abiathar the Priest, Bring the Ephod.

Ma Davide, avuta conoscenza che Saul gli macchinava del male, disse al sacerdote Abiathar: “Porta qua l’efod”.

10 Then sayde Dauid, O Lord God of Israel, thy seruat hath heard, that Saul is about to come to Keilah to destroy the citie for my sake.

Poi disse: “O Eterno, Dio d’Israele, il tuo servo ha sentito come cosa certa che Saul cerca di venire a Keila per distruggere la città per causa mia.

11 Wil the lordes of Keilah deliuer me vp into his hand? and will Saul come downe, as thy seruant hath heard? O Lord God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy seruant. And the Lord sayde, He will come downe.

Quei di Keila mi daranno essi nelle sue mani? Saul scenderà egli come il tuo servo ha sentito dire? O Eterno, Dio d’Israele, deh! fallo sapere al tuo servo!” L’Eterno rispose: “Scenderà”.

12 Then said Dauid, Will the lords of Keilah deliuer me vp, and the men that are with me, into the hand of Saul? And the Lord sayde, They will deliuer thee vp.

Davide chiese ancora: “Quei di Keila daranno essi me e la mia gente nelle mani di Saul?” L’Eterno rispose: “Vi daranno nelle sue mani”.

13 Then Dauid and his men, which were about sixe hundreth, arose, and departed out of Keilah, and went whither they coulde. And it was tolde Saul, that Dauid was fled from Keilah, and he left off his iourney.

Allora Davide e la sua gente, circa seicento uomini, si levarono, uscirono da Keila e andaron qua e là a caso; e Saul informato che Davide era fuggito da Keila, rinunziò alla sua spedizione.

14 And Dauid abode in the wildernesse in holdes, and remayned in a mountaine in the wildernes of Ziph. And Saul sought him euery day, but God deliuered him not into his hand.

Davide rimase nel deserto in luoghi forti; e se ne stette nella contrada montuosa del deserto di Zif. Saul lo cercava continuamente, ma Dio non glielo dette nelle mani.

15 And Dauid sawe that Saul was come out for to seeke his life: and Dauid was in the wildernes of Ziph in the wood.

E Davide sapendo che Saul s’era mosso per torgli la vita, restò nel deserto di Zif, nella foresta.

16 And Ionathan Sauls sonne arose and went to Dauid into the wood, and comforted him in God,

Allora Gionathan, figliuolo di Saul, si levò, e si recò da Davide nella foresta. Egli fortificò la sua fiducia in Dio,

17 And said vnto him, Feare not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not finde thee, and thou shalt be King ouer Israel, and I shalbe next vnto thee: and also Saul my father knoweth it.

e gli disse: “Non temere, poiché Saul, mio padre, non riuscirà a metterti le mani addosso: tu regnerai sopra Israele, e io sarò il secondo dopo di te; e ben lo sa anche Saul mio padre”.

18 So they twaine made a couenant before ye Lord: and Dauid did remaine in the wood: but Ionathan went to his house.

E i due fecero alleanza in presenza dell’Eterno; poi Davide rimase nella foresta, e Gionathan se ne andò a casa sua.

19 Then came vp the Ziphims to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doeth not Dauid hide himselfe by vs in holdes, in the wood in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the right side of Ieshimon?

Or gli Zifei salirono da Saul a Ghibea e gli dissero: “Davide non sta egli nascosto fra noi, ne’ luoghi forti della foresta, sul colle di Hakila che è a mezzogiorno del deserto?

20 Nowe therefore, O King, come downe according to all that thine heart can desire, and our part shall be to deliuer him into the Kinges handes.

Scendi dunque, o re, giacché tutto il desiderio dell’anima tua e di scendere, e penserem noi a darlo nelle mani del re”.

21 Then Saul said, Be ye blessed of the Lord: for ye haue had compassion on mee.

Saul disse: “Siate benedetti dall’Eterno, voi che avete pietà di me!

22 Goe, I pray you, and prepare ye yet better: know and see his place where he haunteth, and who hath seene him there: for it is sayd to me, He is subtile, and craftie.

Andate, vi prego, informatevi anche più sicuramente per sapere e scoprire il luogo dove suol fermarsi, e chi l’abbia quivi veduto; poiché mi si dice ch’egli è molto astuto.

23 See therefore and know all the secret places where he hideth himselfe, and come ye againe to me with the certaintie, and I will goe with you: and if he be in the lande, I will searche him out throughout all the thousands of Iudah.

E vedete di conoscere tutti i nascondigli dov’ei si ritira; poi tornate da me con notizie sicure, e io andrò con voi. S’egli è nel paese, io lo cercherò fra tutte le migliaia di Giuda”.

24 Then they arose and went to Ziph before Saul, but Dauid and his men were in the wildernesse of Maon, in the playne on the right hande of Ieshimon.

Quelli dunque si levarono e se n’andarono a Zif, innanzi a Saul; ma Davide e i suoi erano nel deserto di Maon, nella pianura a mezzogiorno del deserto.

25 Saul also and his men went to seeke him, and they told Dauid: wherefore he came downe vnto a rocke, and abode in the wildernesse of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he folowed after Dauid in the wildernes of Maon.

Saul con la sua gente partì in cerca di lui; ma Davide, che ne fu informato, scese dalla roccia e rimase nel deserto di Maon. E quando Saul lo seppe, andò in traccia di Davide nel deserto di Maon.

26 And Saul and his men went on the one side of the mountaine, and Dauid and his men on the other side of the mountaine: and Dauid made haste to get from the presence of Saul: for Saul and his men compassed Dauid and his men round about, to take them.

Saul camminava da un lato del monte, e Davide con la sua gente dall’altro lato; e come Davide affrettava la marcia per sfuggire a Saul e Saul e la sua gente stavano per circondare Davide e i suoi per impadronirsene,

27 But there came a messenger to Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come: for the Philistims haue inuaded the land.

arrivò a Saul un messo che disse: “Affrettati a venire, perché i Filistei hanno invaso il paese”.

28 Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing Dauid, and went against the Philistims. Therefore they called that place, Sela-hammahlekoth.

Così Saul cessò d’inseguire Davide e andò a far fronte ai Filistei; perciò a quel luogo fu messo nome Sela-Hammahlekoth.

29 And Dauid went thence, and dwelt in holdes at En-gedi.

Poi Davide si partì di là e si stabilì nei luoghi forti di En-Ghedi.
