1 Samuel 18
1 And when he had made an ende of speaking vnto Saul, the soule of Ionathan was knit with the soule of Dauid, and Ionathan loued him, as his owne soule.
Als nun David seine Unterredung mit Saul beendet hatte, da schloß Jonathan den David in sein Herz und gewann ihn lieb wie sein eigenes Leben.
2 And Saul tooke him that day, and woulde not let him returne to his fathers house.
Saul aber nahm David an jenem Tage zu sich und ließ ihn nicht wieder in das Haus seines Vaters zurückkehren.
3 Then Ionathan and Dauid made a couenant: for he loued him as his owne soule.
Da schloß Jonathan einen Freundschaftsbund mit David, weil er ihn wie sich selbst liebte.
4 And Ionathan put off the robe that was vpon him, and gaue it Dauid, and his garments, euen to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
Dabei zog Jonathan den Mantel aus, den er anhatte, und gab ihn David, dazu auch seinen Waffenrock samt seinem Schwerte, seinem Bogen und seinem Gürtel.
5 And Dauid went out whithersoeuer Saul sent him, and behaued himselfe wisely: so that Saul set him ouer the men of warre, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Sauls seruants.
Sooft nun David Kriegszüge unternahm, hatte er überall Glück, wohin Saul ihn sandte; daher übertrug Saul ihm die Stelle eines Anführers in seinem Heere; und er war beim ganzen Volk und auch bei den Hofleuten Sauls beliebt.
6 When they came againe, and Dauid returned from the slaughter of the Philistim, the women came out of all cities of Israel singing and dauncing to meete king Saul, with timbrels, with instruments of ioy, and with rebeckes.
Es begab sich aber bei der Heimkehr Sauls und des Heeres, als David nach der Erschlagung des Philisters zurückkehrte: da zogen die Frauen aus allen Ortschaften Israels singend und tanzend, mit Handpauken, Jubelgeschrei und Zimbeln dem König Saul entgegen;
7 And the women sang by course in their play, and sayd, Saul hath slayne his thousand, and Dauid his ten thousand.
und die Frauen hoben im Wechselgesang an: »Saul hat seine Tausende geschlagen, David aber seine Zehntausende!«
8 Therefore Saul was exceeding wroth, and the saying displeased him, and he sayde, They haue ascribed vnto Dauid ten thousand, and to me they haue ascribed but a thousand, and what can he haue more saue the kingdome?
Da geriet Saul in heftigen Zorn, weil dieses Lied ihm durchaus mißfiel, und er sagte: »Dem David weisen sie zehntausend zu, mir aber nur tausend; nun fehlt ihm nur noch das Königtum!«
9 Wherefore Saul had an eye on Dauid from that day forward.
So sah denn Saul den David seit jenem Tage und weiterhin mit Neid an.
10 And on the morowe, the euill spirite of God came vpon Saul, and he prophecied in the middes of the house: and Dauid played with his hand like as at other times, and there was a speare in Sauls hand.
Am folgenden Tage nun kam ein böser Geist Gottes über Saul, so daß er im Hause drinnen raste; David aber spielte die Zither, wie er dies alle Tage zu tun pflegte, während Saul den Speer in der Hand hatte.
11 And Saul tooke the speare, and sayd, I will smite Dauid through to the wall. But Dauid auoyded twise out of his presence.
Da zückte Saul den Speer, indem er dachte: »Ich will David an die Wand spießen!«, aber David wich ihm zweimal aus.
12 And Saul was afrayd of Dauid, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from Saul.
Da fürchtete sich Saul vor David, weil der HERR mit ihm war, während er von Saul gewichen war.
13 Therefore Saul put him from him, and made him a captaine ouer a thousand, and he went out and in before the people.
Darum entfernte ihn Saul aus seiner Nähe und machte ihn zum Hauptmann über tausend Mann. Er unternahm nun Kriegszüge an der Spitze seiner Leute
14 And Dauid behaued himselfe wisely in all his wayes: for the Lord was with him.
und hatte bei allen seinen Unternehmungen Glück, weil der HERR mit ihm war.
15 Wherefore when Saul saw that he was very wise, he was afrayde of him.
Als nun Saul sah, daß er außerordentliches Glück hatte, geriet er in Angst vor ihm;
16 For all Israel and Iudah loued Dauid, because he went out and in before them.
aber bei ganz Israel und Juda war David beliebt, weil er bei seinen Kriegszügen an ihrer Spitze aus- und einzog.
17 Then Saul sayd to Dauid, Beholde mine eldest daughter Merab, her I will giue thee to wife: onely be a valiant sonne vnto me, and fight the Lordes battels: for Saul thought, Mine hand shall not be vpon him, but the hand of the Philistims shalbe vpon him.
Da sagte Saul zu David: »Hier ist meine älteste Tochter Merab, die will ich dir zur Frau geben; nur mußt du dich mir als Held erweisen und die Kriege des HERRN führen.« Saul dachte nämlich: »Ich selbst will nicht Hand an ihn legen, sondern die Philister sollen ihn ums Leben bringen.«
18 And Dauid answered Saul, What am I? and what is my life, or the family of my father in Israel, that I should be sonne in law to the King?
Da antwortete David dem Saul: »Wer bin ich, und was ist meine Familie, das Geschlecht meines Vaters, in Israel, daß ich des Königs Schwiegersohn werden sollte!«
19 Howbeit when Merab Sauls daughter should haue bene giuen to Dauid, she was giuen vnto Adriel a Meholathite to wife.
Als dann aber die Zeit kam, wo Merab, die Tochter Sauls, dem David gegeben werden sollte, wurde sie mit Adriel von Mehola verheiratet.
20 Then Michal Sauls daughter loued Dauid: and they shewed Saul, and the thing pleased him.
Aber Sauls Tochter Michal faßte Liebe zu David. Als Saul Kenntnis davon erhielt, fand die Sache seinen Beifall;
21 Therefore Saul said, I wil giue him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistims may bee against him. Wherefore Saul sayde to Dauid, Thou shalt this day be my sonne in law in the one of the twayne.
er dachte nämlich: »Ich will sie ihm zur Frau geben, damit sie für ihn zur Schlinge wird und er den Philistern in die Hände fällt.« So sagte denn Saul zu David: »Mit der zweiten sollst du jetzt mein Schwiegersohn werden.«
22 And Saul commanded his seruants, Speake with Dauid secretly, and say, Behold, ye King hath a fauour to thee, and all his seruants loue thee: be now therefore the Kings sonne in law.
Darauf gab er seinen Dienern die Weisung: »Redet vertraulich mit David und sagt ihm: ›Der König hat offenbar Wohlgefallen an dir, und alle seine Diener haben dich gern; so werde also nun der Schwiegersohn des Königs!‹«
23 And Sauls seruantes spake these wordes in the eares of Dauid. And Dauid sayd, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a Kings sonne in lawe, seeing that I am a poore man and of small reputation?
Als nun die Diener Sauls in dieser Weise dem David zuredeten, entgegnete David: »Dünkt es euch etwas Leichtes, des Königs Schwiegersohn zu werden? Ich bin ja doch nur ein armer und geringer Mann.«
24 And then Sauls seruats brought him word againe, saying, Such wordes spake Dauid.
Als nun die Diener Sauls diesem berichteten: »So und so hat David sich ausgesprochen«,
25 And Saul sayd, This wise shall ye say to Dauid, The King desireth no dowrie, but an hundred foreskinnes of the Philistims, to bee auenged of the Kings enemies: for Saul thought to make Dauid fall into the handes of the Philistims.
antwortete Saul: »Teilt dem David mit, der König begehre keine andere Heiratsgabe als hundert Vorhäute von Philistern, um Rache an den Feinden des Königs zu nehmen.« Saul gedachte nämlich, David durch die Hand der Philister aus der Welt zu schaffen.
26 And when his seruantes tolde Dauid these wordes, it pleased Dauid well, to be the Kings sonne in law: and the dayes were not expired.
Als nun Sauls Diener dem David diese Äußerung hinterbrachten, war David damit einverstanden, des Königs Schwiegersohn zu werden; und ehe noch die Zeit um war,
27 Afterwarde Dauid arose with his men, and went and slewe of the Philistims two hundreth men: and Dauid brought their foreskinnes, and they gaue them wholly to the King that hee might be the Kings sonne in lawe: therefore Saul gaue him Michal his daughter to wife.
machte David sich mit seinen Leuten auf den Weg und erschlug unter den Philistern zweihundert Mann. Er brachte dann ihre Vorhäute heim und lieferte sie dem Könige vollzählig ab, um des Königs Schwiegersohn zu werden. Da gab ihm Saul seine Tochter Michal zur Frau.
28 Then Saul sawe, and vnderstoode that the Lord was with Dauid, and that Michal the daughter of Saul loued him.
Als aber Saul immer klarer erkannte, daß der HERR mit David war und daß Michal, die Tochter Sauls, ihn liebte,
29 Then Saul was more and more afrayde of Dauid, and Saul became alway Dauids enemie.
fürchtete Saul sich noch mehr vor David und wurde ihm für immer feind.
30 And when the Princes of the Philistims went forth, at their going forth Dauid behaued himselfe more wisely then all the seruants of Saul, so that his name was much set by.
Sooft aber die Fürsten der Philister ins Feld zogen, hatte David allemal größeren Erfolg als alle anderen Heerführer Sauls, so daß sein Name in hohen Ehren stand.
