1 Samuel 14
1 Then on a day Ionathan the sonne of Saul sayde vnto the yong man that bare his armour, Come and let vs goe ouer towarde the Philistims garison, that is yonder on the other side, but he tolde not his father.
Eines Tages nun gebot Jonathan, der Sohn Sauls, ohne seinem Vater Mitteilung zu machen, dem burschen, der ihm Wasser trug: Komm, laßß uns hinübergehen auf den Posten der Philister kos, der dort drüben steht!
2 And Saul taried in the border of Gibeah vnder a pomegranate tree, which was in Migron, and the people that were with him, were about sixe hundreth men.
Saul aber saß eben an der Grenze von Gibea unter dem Granatbaume, der bei Migron steht. Die Leute, die er bei sich hatte, beliefen sich auf etwa 600 Mann;
3 And Ahiah the sonne of Ahitub, Ichabods brother, the sonne of Phinehas, the sonne of Eli, was the Lordes Priest in Shiloh, and ware an Ephod: and the people knewe not that Ionathan was gone.
und Ahia, der Sohn Ahitubs, des Bruders Ikabods, des Sohnes des Pinehas, dses sohnes Elis, des Priesters Jahwes zu Silo, trug damals den Ephod. Die Leute wußten aber nichts davon, daß Jonathan weggegangen war.
4 Nowe in the way whereby Ionathan sought to go ouer to the Philistims garison, there was a sharpe rocke on the one side, and a sharpe rocke on the other side: the name of the one was called Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
Inmitten des Passes aber, den Jonathan zu überschreiten suchte, um den Posten der Philister anzugreifen, befand sich je eine felszacke diesseits und jenseits; die eine hieß Bozez, die andere Sene.
5 The one rocke stretched from the North towarde Michmash, and the other was from the South toward Gibeah.
Die eine Zacke erhebt sich steil auf der Nordseite, Michmas gegenüber, die andere auf der Südseite, Geba gegenüber.
6 And Ionathan saide to the yong man that bare his armour, Come, and let vs goe ouer vnto the garison of these vncircumcised: it may be that the Lord will worke with vs: for it is not hard to the Lord to saue with many, or with fewe.
Jonathan gebot also dem Burschen, der ihm die Waffen trug: Komm, laß uns hinübergehen auf den Posten dieser Unbeschnittenen los! Vielleicht wird Jahwe für uns streiten; den für Jahwe besteht kein Hindernis, durch Viel oder durch Wenig Hilfe zu schaffen!
7 And he that bare his armour, saide vnto him, Doe all that is in thine heart: goe where it pleaseth thee: beholde, I am with thee as thine heart desireth.
Der Waffenträger antwortete ihm: Thue nur, wonach dir irgend der Sinn steht; ich bin bereit, mich dir anzuschließen: was du willst, will auch ich!
8 Then said Ionathan, Beholde, we goe ouer vnto those men, and will shewe our selues vnto them.
Jonathan erwiderte: Wohlan, wenn wir jetzt zu den leuten hinübergehen, und sie unserer ansichtig werden
9 If they say on this wise to vs, Tarie vntill we come to you, then we will stand still in our place, and not goe vp to them.
und uns alsdann zurufen: Halt, bis wir zu euch hinkommen! so wollen wir auf unserem Platze stehen bleiben und nicht zu ihnen hinaufsteigen.
10 But if they say, Come vp vnto vs, then we will goe vp: for the Lord hath deliuered them into our hande: and this shall be a signe vnto vs.
Rufen sie aber: Kommt herauf zu uns! so wollen wir hinaufsteigen; denn dann hat sie Jahwe in unsere Gewalt gegeben. Das soll uns als Zeichen dienen!
11 So they both shewed themselues vnto the garison of the Philistims: and the Philistims said, See, the Ebrewes come out of the holes wherein they had hid themselues.
Als nun die Beiden dem Posten der Philister zu Gesichte kamen, da dachten die Philister: Das sind ja Hebräer, die aus den Löchern hervorkommen, darein sie sich verkrochen haben!
12 And the men of the garison answered Ionathan, and his armour bearer, and said, Come vp to vs: for we will shewe you a thing. Then Ionathan said vnto his armour bearer, Come vp after me: for the Lord hath deliuered them into the hand of Israel.
So riefen denn die Leute vom Posten Jonathan und seinen Waffenträger an: Kommt herauf zu uns, so sollt ihr etwas von uns erfahren! Da sprach Jonathan zu seinem Waffenträger: Steige mir nach, denn Jahwe hat sie in die Gewalt Israels gegeben!
13 So Ionathan went vp vpon his hands and vpon his feete, and his armour bearer after him: and some fell before Ionathan, and his armour bearer slewe others after him.
Nun kletterte Jonathan auf Händen und Füßen empor und sein Waffenträger ihm nach. Da wandten sie sich zur Flucht vor Jonathan. Er aber hieb sie nieder, und sein Waffenträger tötete sie vollends hinter ihm her.
14 So the first slaughter which Ionathan and his armour bearer made, was about twentie men, as it were within halfe an acre of land which two oxen plowe.
So belief sich das erste Blutbad, das Jonathan und sein waffenträger anrichteten, auf ungefähr zwanzig Mann, ungefähr auf der Hälfte einer Furchenstrecke, einem Joche Feldes.
15 And there was a feare in the hoste, and in the field, and among all the people: the garison also, and they that went out to spoyle, were afraid themselues: and the earth trembled: for it was striken with feare by God.
Da entstand Schrecken im Feldlager und unter allem Kriegsvolk; ebenso erschraken der Posten und die plündernde Schar. Dazu bebte die Erde und erzeugte einen Gottesschrecken.
16 Then the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Beniamin sawe: and beholde, the multitude was discomfited, and smitten as they went.
Als aber die Späher sauls zu Gibea in Benjamin hinsahen, da wogte das Lager hin und her.
17 Therefore saide Saul vnto the people that were with him, Search nowe and see, who is gone from vs. And when they had nombred, beholde, Ionathan and his armour bearer were not there.
Nun gebot Saul den Leuten, die um ihn waren: Haltet doch Musterung und seht, wer von uns hinweggegangen ist! Als man nun Musterung hielt, da fehlten Jonathan und sein Waffentäger.
18 And Saul said vnto Ahiah, Bring hither the Arke of God (for the Arke of God was at that time with the children of Israel)
Da gebot Saul dem Ahia: Bringe den Ephod her! denn er trug damals den Ephod vor den Israeliten.
19 And while Saul talked vnto the Priest, the noyse that was in the hoste of the Philistims, spred farther abroade, and encreased: therefore Saul said vnto the Priest, Withdraw thine hand.
Während aber Saul mit dem Priester redete, wurde das Getöse im Lager der Philister immer ärger, so daß Saul dem Priester gebot: Laß es sein!
20 And Saul was assembled with all the people that were with him, and they came to the battell: and behold, euery mans sworde was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.
da versammelten sich Saul und das ganze Kriegsvolk, das er bei sich hatte, und als sie zum Kampfplatze kamen, da hatte ein jeder das Schwert gegen den andern erhoben, so daß eine sehr große Verwirrung entstanden war.
21 Moreouer, the Ebrewes that were with the Philistims beforetime, and were come with them into all partes of the hoste, euen they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Ionathan.
Die hebräer aber, welche seit lange den Philistern angehört hatten und welche mit ihnen ins Feld gezogen waren, fielen nun ihrerseits auch ab, um sich den Israeliten, die zu Saul und Jonathan hielten, anzuschließen.
22 Also all the men of Israel which had hid themselues in mount Ephraim, when they heard, that the Philistims were fled, they followed after them in the battell.
Dazu als alle die israelitischen Männer, die sich im Gebirge Ephraim verborgen hatten, hörten, daß die Philister geflphen seien, setzten sie ihnen gleichfalls nach, um sie zu bekämpfen.
23 And so the Lord saued Israel that day: and the battell continued vnto Beth-auen.
So verlieh Jahwe Israel an jenem Tage Sieg. Als sich aber der Kampf über Beth Aven hin ausgedehnt hatte -
24 And at that time the men of Israel were pressed with hunger: for Saul charged the people with an othe, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth foode till night, that I may be auenged of mine enemies: so none of the people tasted any sustenance.
das ganze Volk ging mit Saul, etwa 10000 Mann stark, und der Kampf zersplitterte sich auf dem Gebirge Ephraim -, da beging Saul jenes Tags ein schweres Versehen. Er nahm dem Volke folgenden Eid ab: Verflucht sei jeder, der etwas ißt bis zum Abend, bis ich an meinen Feinden Rache genommen habe! Daher nahm keiner der Leute Speise zu sich.
25 And all they of the land came to a wood, where hony lay vpon the ground.
Nun befanden sich Honigwaben auf dem Blachfelde.
26 And the people came into the wood, and beholde, the hony dropped, and no man mooued his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the othe.
Als das Volk zu den Waben kam, da befand sich, daß die Bienen ausgeflogen waren; trotzdem aber führte niemand die Hand zum Munde, weil die Leute sich vor dem Schwure scheuten.
27 But Ionathan heard not when his father charged the people with the othe: wherefore he put foorth the ende of the rod that was in his hand, and dipt it in an hony combe, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes receiued sight.
Jonathan hingegen hatte nicht mit angehört, wie sein Vater den Eid von den Leuten forderte. So langte er denn mit der Spitze des Stabes, den er in der Hand hielt, hin, tauchte sie in eine Honigwabe und führte die Hand zum Munde - da wurden seine Augen wieder helle.
28 Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father made the people to sweare, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth sustenance this day: and the people were faint.
Einer der Krieger aber redete ihn an und sprach: Dein Vater hat die Leute einen feierlichen Eid schwören lassen, der lautete: Verflucht sei jeder, der heute etwas ißt! Das Volk war aber ermattet.
29 Then said Ionathan, My father hath troubled the land: see nowe howe mine eyes are made cleare, because I haue tasted a litle of this honie:
Jonathan erwiderte: Mein Vater stürzt das Land ins Unglück; sieh doch, wie meine Augen leuchten, weil ich dies bischen Honig genossen habe:
30 Howe much more, if the people had eaten to day of the spoyle of their enemies which they found? for had there not bene nowe a greater slaughter among the Philistims?
wie viel mehr, wenn die Leute von der feindlichen Beute, die sie gemacht haben, heute tüchtig gegessen hätten, - so aber ist die Niederlage unter den Philistern nicht groß geworden!
31 And they smote the Philistims that day, from Michmash to Aiialon: and the people were exceeding faint.
Sie schlugen aber die Philister an jenem Tage von Michmas bis Ajalon, und das Kriegsvolk war sehr ermattet.
32 So the people turned to the spoile, and tooke sheepe, and oxen, and calues, and slewe them on the ground, and the people did eate them with the blood.
So machten sich denn dei Leute über die beute her, nahmen Schafe, Rinder und Kälber und schlachteten sie am Boden, und die Leute aßen das Fleisch samt dem Blute.
33 Then men tolde Saul, saying, Beholde, the people sinne against the Lord, in that they eate with the blood. And he saide, Ye haue trespassed: roule a great stone vnto me this day.
Als man nun Saul die Kunde brachte: Die Leute versündigen sich an Jahwe, indem sie das Fleisch samt dem Blut essen, rief er: Ihr frevelt! Wälzt mir einen großen Stein her!
34 Againe Saul said, Goe abroade among the people, and bid them bring me euery man his oxe, and euery man his sheepe, and slay them here, and eate and sinne not against the Lord in eating with the blood. And ye people brought euery man his oxe in his hand that night, and slew them there.
Und Saul gebot: Zerstreut euch unter die Leute und sagt ihnen: Ein jeder von euch bringe sein Rind und sein Schaf her zu mir und schlachte es hier und esse sodann, damit ihr euch nicht an Jahwe versündigt, indem ihr es mit dem Blute eßt! Da brachte ein jeder von den leuten, was er besaß, und schlachtete es dort.
35 Then Saul made an altar vnto the Lord, and that was the first altar that he made vnto the Lord.
Und Saul errichtete Jahwe einen Altar; das ist der erste Altar, den Saul Jahwe errichtete.
36 And Saul saide, Let vs goe downe after the Philistims by night, and spoyle them vntill the morning shine, and let vs not leaue a man of them. And they saide, Doe whatsoeuer thou thinkest best. Then saide the Priest, Let vs drawe neere hither vnto God.
Da schlug Saul vor: Wir wollen den Philistern in der Nacht nachsetzen, damit wir bis zum Tagesanbruch unter ihnen plündern und keinen von ihnen übrig lassen! Sie riefen: Thue ganz, wie es dir gutdünkt! Der Priester aber sprach: Wir wollen hierher vor Gott treten.
37 So Saul asked of God, saying, Shall I goe downe after ye Philistims? wilt thou deliuer them into the hands of Israel? But he answered him not at that time.
Als aber Saul bei Gott anfragte: Soll ich den Philistern nachsetzen? Wirst du sie in die Gewalt der Israeliten geben? da gab er ihm jenes Tags keine Antwort.
38 And Saul said, All ye chiefe of the people, come ye hither, and knowe, and see by whom this sinne is done this day.
Da gebot Saul: Tretet hierher, alle Obersten des Volks, und forscht nach, von wem diese versündigung heute begangen worden ist!
39 For as the Lord liueth, which saueth Israel, though it be done by Ionathan my sonne, he shall dye the death. But none of all the people answered him.
Denn so wahr Jahwe lebt, der Israel Sieg verliehen hat, selbst wenn sie sich bei meinem Sohne Jonathan fände - er müßte sterben! Aber niemand von den Leuten allen antwortete ihm.
40 Then he saide vnto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Ionathan my sonne will be on the other side. And the people saide vnto Saul, Doe what thou thinkest best.
Da gebot er dem ganzen Israel: Ihr stellt eine Seite dar, und ich und mein Sohn Jonathan stellen die andere Seite dar. Das Volk erwiderte Saul: Thue was dir gutdünkt!
41 Then Saul said vnto the Lord God of Israel, Giue a perfite lot. And Ionathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.
da rief Saul: Jahwe, du Gott Israels, weshalb hast du deinem Knechte heute nicht geantwortet? Wenn diese verschuldung an mir oder meinem Sohne Jonathan haftet, Jahwe, du Gott Israels, so laß Urim erscheinen; haftet sie aber an deinem Volke Israel, so laß Tummin erscheinen! Da wurden Jonathan und Saul getroffen, das Volk aber ging frei aus.
42 And Saul saide, Cast lot betweene me and Ionathan my sonne. And Ionathan was taken.
Saul gebot: Lost zwischen mir und meinem Sohne Jonathan! Da wurde Jonathan getroffen.
43 Then Saul said to Ionathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Ionathan tolde him, and said, I tasted a litle hony with the ende of the rod, that was in mine hand, and loe, I must die.
Nun fragte Saul Jonathan: Thue mir kund: was hast du getan? Da that es ihm Jonathan kund und sprach: Mit der Spitze des Stabes, den ich in der Hand hielt, kostete ich nur ein wenig Honig - dafür soll ich sterben?!
44 Againe Saul answered, God doe so and more also, vnlesse thou die the death, Ionathan.
Saul erwiderte: Gott thue mir an, was er will: ja, du mußt sterben, Jonathan!
45 And the people said vnto Saul, Shall Ionathan die, who hath so mightily deliuered Israel? God forbid. As the Lord liueth, there shall not one heare of his head fall to the ground: for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people deliuered Ionathan that he dyed not.
Aber das Volk rief Saul zu: Jonathan soll sterben, der diesen großen Sieg in Israel errungen hat? Das darf nicht sein! So wahr Jahwe lebt, es soll nicht ein Haar von seinem Haupte zur Erde fallen; denn mit Gottes Hilfe hat er ihn heute errungen! Da löste das Volk Jonathan aus, daß er nicht sterben mußte.
46 Then Saul came vp from the Philistims: and the Philistims went to their owne place.
Und Saul kam wieder herauf von der Verfolgung der Philister; die Philister aber zogen an ihren Ort.
47 So Saul helde the kingdome ouer Israel, and fought against all his enemies on euery side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the Kings of Zobah, and against the Philistims: and whithersoeuer he went, he handled them as wicked men.
Als nun Saul das Königtum über Israel gewonnen hatte, führte er Kriege ringsum gegen alle seine feinde: gegen Moab, gegen die Ammoniter, gegen Edom, gegen den König von Zoba und gegen die Philister und wohin er sich auch wandte, da war er siegreich.
48 He gathered also an hoste and smote Amalek, and deliuered Israel out of the handes of them that spoyled them.
Auch bewies er Tapferkeit und schlug Amalek und errettete Israel aus der Gewalt seines Plünderers.
49 Nowe the sonnes of Saul were Ionathan, and Ishui, and Malchishua: and the names of his two daughters, the elder was called Merab, and the yonger was named Michal.
Die Söhne Sauls waren: Jonathan, Isjo und Malkisua, und seine zwei Töchter hießen: die ältere Merab, die jüngere Michal.
50 And the name of Sauls wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of his chiefe captaine was Abner the sonne of Ner, Sauls vncle.
Und Sauls Weib hieß: Ahinoam, Tochter des Ahimaaz; und seine Heerführer hießen Abner, Sohn Ners, dews Oheims Sauls.
51 And Kish was Sauls father: and Ner the father of Abner was the sonne of Abiel.
Sowohl Sauls Vater Kis, als Abners Vater Ner waren nämlich Söhne Abiels.
52 And there was sore warre against the Philistims all the dayes of Saul: and whomsoeuer Saul sawe to be a strong man, and meete for the warre, he tooke him vnto him.
Aber der Krieg gegen die Philister tobte heftig, solange Saul lebte, und sah Saul irgend einen Tapfern oder einen kriegstüchtigen Mann, den gesellte er sich zu.
