1 Kings 20
1 Then Ben-hadad the King of Aram assembled all his armie, and two and thirtie Kings with him, with horses, and charets, and went vp and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
Benhadad, Arams König, aber zog sein ganzes Heer zusammen. Zweiunddreißig Könige waren bei ihm samt Rossen und Wagen. So zog er heran, schloß Samaria ein und berannte es.
2 And he sent messengers to Ahab King of Israel, into the citie,
Er sandte zu Achab, Israels König, Boten in die Stadt
3 And sayd vnto him, Thus sayth Ben-hadad, Thy siluer and thy golde is mine: also thy women, and thy fayre children are mine.
und ließ ihm sagen: "So spricht Benhadad: 'Dein Silber und Gold ist mein. Doch deine Weiber und deine tüchtigen Söhne sollen dir verbleiben.'"
4 And the King of Israel answered, and sayd, My lord King, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I haue.
Da antwortete ihm Israels König: "Nach deinem Worte, mein Herr und König! Dein bin ich und alles, was mein ist."
5 And when the messengers came againe, they said, Thus commandeth Ben-hadad, and saith, When I shall send vnto thee, and command, thou shalt deliuer me thy siluer and thy golde, and thy women, and thy children,
Die Boten aber kamen wieder und sprachen: "So spricht Benhadad: 'Ich habe dir entboten: Dein Silber und Gold, aber auch deine Weiber und deine Söhne sollst du mir geben.
6 Or els I will sende my seruants vnto thee by to morow this time: and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy seruants: and whatsoeuer is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall take it in their handes, and bring it away.
Wenn ich morgen um diese Zeit meine Diener zu dir sende, durchsuchen sie dein Haus und deiner Diener Häuser. Dann nehmen sie alles, was dir teuer ist, und tragen es fort.'"
7 Then the King of Israel sent for all the Elders of the land, and sayd, Take heede, I pray you, and see how he seeketh mischiefe: for he sent vnto me for my wiues, and for my children, and for my siluer, and for my golde, and I denyed him not.
Da berief Israels König alle Ältesten des Landes und sprach: "Erkennet und sehet, daß dieser Böses vorhat! Denn er schickt jetzt zu mir wegen meiner Weiber und meiner Söhne. Wäre es bloß Silber und Gold, dann versagte ich es ihm nicht."
8 And all the Elders, and all the people sayd to him, Hearken not vnto him, nor consent.
Da sprachen alle Ältesten und das ganze Volk zu ihm: "Hör nicht darauf und willige nicht ein!"
9 Wherefore hee sayde vnto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lorde the King, All that thou didddest sende for to thy seruant at the first time, that I will doe, but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him an answere.
Da sprach er zu Benhadads Boten: "Sagt meinem Herrn, dem König: 'Alles, was du zuerst deinem Knecht entboten hast, will ich tun. Aber dies kann ich nicht tun.'" Die Boten gingen nun und brachten ihm den Bescheid.
10 And Ben-hadad sent vnto him, and sayde, The gods do so to me and more also, if the dust of Samaria be ynough to all the people that follow me, for euery man an handfull.
Da sandte Benhadad zu ihm und ließ sagen: "Die Götter mögen mir dies und das tun, wenn der Schutt Samarias allen meinen Leuten bei mir die hohlen Hände füllen könnte!"
11 And the King of Israel answered, and sayd, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth his harneis, boast himselfe, as he that putteth it off.
Da erwiderte Israels König und sprach: "Meldet! Wer sich erst wappnet, rühme sich nicht schon gleich dem, der die Rüstung wieder ablegt!"
12 And when he heard that tidings, as he was with the Kings drinking in the pauilions, he sayd vnto his seruants, Bring forth your engines, and they set them against the citie.
Er hörte diese Antwort, als er eben mit den Königen in den Zelten zechte. Da sprach er zu seinen Dienern: "Greift an!" Da griffen sie die Stadt an.
13 And beholde, there came a Prophet vnto Ahab King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Hast thou seene all this great multitude? beholde, I will deliuer it into thine hande this day, that thou mayest knowe, that I am the Lord.
Da trat ein Prophet zu Israels König Achab und sprach: "So spricht der Herr: 'Siehst du diesen ganzen großen Haufen? Ich gebe ihn heute in deine Hand, damit du erkennest, daß ich der Herr bin.'"
14 And Ahab sayd, By whome? And he sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, By the seruants of the princes of the prouinces. He sayde againe, Who shall order the battel? And he answered, Thou.
Da sprach Achab: "Durch wen?" Er sprach: "So spricht der Herr: 'Durch die Jungmannschaft der Landvögte.'" Er sprach: "Wer soll den Kampf eröffnen?" Er sagte: "Du."
15 Then he nombred the seruantes of the princes of the prouinces, and they were two hundreth, two and thirtie: and after them he nombred the whole people of all the children of Israel, euen seuen thousand.
So musterte er die Jungmannschaft der Landvögte. Es waren 232. Hernach musterte er das ganze Volk, alle Israeliten, 7.000.
16 And they went out at noone: but Ben-hadad did drinke till he was drunken in the tentes, both he and the Kings: for two and thirtie Kings helped him.
Sie rückten nun am Mittag aus. Benhadad zechte eben in den Lauben bis zur Trunkenheit, er und die zweiunddreißig Könige, die ihm beistanden.
17 So the seruants of the princes of the prouinces went out first: and Ben-hadad sent out, and they shewed him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
So rückte die Jungmannschaft der Landvögte zuerst aus. Da sandte man zu Benhadad und ließ ihm melden: "Aus Samaria rückt Mannschaft aus."
18 And he sayde, Whether they be come out for peace, take them aliue: or whether they bee come out to fight, take them yet aliue.
Er sprach: "Ziehen sie in Frieden aus, dann fangt sie lebendig! Ziehen sie aber zum Kampf aus, dann fangt sie auch lebendig!"
19 So they came out of the citie, to wit, the seruants of the princes of the prouinces, and the hoste which followed them.
Jene aber zogen aus der Stadt, der Landvögte Jungmannschaft und das Heer, das ihnen nachzog.
20 And they slew euery one his enemie: and the Aramites fled, and Israel pursued them: but Ben-hadad ye King of Aram escaped on an horse with his horsemen.
Da schlugen sie, jeder seinen Mann. Die Aramäer flohen, und Israel verfolgte sie. Arams König Benhadad aber entrann auf einem Reitpferd.
21 And the King of Israel went out, and smote the horses and charets, and with a great slaughter slew he the Aramites.
Dann zog Israels König aus und schlug die Rosse und die Wagen. So schlug er die Aramäer gewaltig.
22 (For there had come a Prophet to the King of Israel, and had sayd vnto him, Goe, be of good courage, and consider, and take heede what thou doest: for when the yeere is gone about, the King of Aram wil come vp against thee)
Da trat der Prophet zum König von Israel und sprach zu ihm: "Wohlan! Verstärke dich und siehe wohl zu, was du tun willst! Denn im nächsten Jahr zieht Arams König wieder gegen dich."
23 Then the seruants of the King of Aram said vnto him, Their gods are gods of the moutaines, and therefore they ouercame vs: but let vs fight against them in the playne, and doubtlesse we shall ouercome them.
Nun sprachen die Diener des Königs von Aram zu ihm: "Ihre Götter sind Berggötter. Deshalb haben sie uns besiegt. Kämpften wir aber in der Ebene mit ihnen, dann besiegten wir sie sicherlich.
24 And this doe, Take the Kings away, euery one out of his place, and place captaines for them.
Tu dies also: Entsetze die Könige, jeden seiner Stellung, und ersetze sie durch Statthalter!
25 And nomber thy selfe an armie, like the armie that thou hast lost, with such horses, and such charets, and we wil fight against them in the plaine, and doubtlesse we shall ouercome them: and he hearkened vnto their voyce, and did so.
Dann sollst du dir selbst ein Heer zusammenbringen wie das Heer, das dir abhanden gekommen, und Rosse und Wagen wie jene früheren Dann wollen wir sie in der Ebene bekämpfen. Wir werden sie sicherlich besiegen." Und er hörte auf ihren Rat und tat so.
26 And after the yeere was gone about, Ben-hadad nombred the Aramites, and went vp to Aphek to fight against Israel.
Im nächsten Jahre musterte Benhadad die Aramäer. Dann zog er nach Aphek zum Kampf mit Israel hinauf.
27 And the children of Israel were nombred, and were all assembled and went against them, and the children of Israel pitched before them, like two litle flockes of kiddes: but the Aramites filled the countrey.
Auch die Israeliten wurden gemustert und mit Mundvorrat versorgt. Dann zogen sie jenen entgegen. Die Israeliten aber lagerten ihnen gegenüber wie ein paar erschöpfte Ziegen. Die Aramäer aber füllten das Land.
28 And there came a man of God, and spake vnto the King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Because the Aramites haue sayd, The Lord is the God of the mountaines, and not God of the valleis, therefore will I deliuer all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
Da trat der Gottesmann herzu und sprach zum König von Israel und sagte: "So spricht der Herr: 'Weil die von Aram ausgesagt, ein Berggott sei der Herr, doch nicht ein Gott der Täler, so gebe ich in deine Hand den ganzen großen Haufen hier, auf daß ihr seht: Ich bin der Herr.'"
29 And they pitched one ouer against the other seuen dayes, and in the seuenth day the battel was ioyned: and the children of Israel slew of the Aramites an hundreth thousand footemen in one day.
So lagerten die einen den anderen sieben Tage gegenüber. Am siebten Tage aber begann die Schlacht, und die Israeliten schlugen von den Aramäern 100.000 Mann Fußvolk an einem Tage.
30 But the rest fled to Aphek into the citie: and there fel a wall vpon seuen and twentie thousand men that were left: and Ben-hadad fled into the citie, and came into a secret chamber.
Die übrigen aber flohen nach Aphek in die Stadt. Da fiel die Mauer, als die übriggebliebenen 27.000 Mann darin waren. Auch Benhadad war geflohen; so kam er in die Stadt und verbarg sich in einem Schlupfwinkel.
31 And his seruants sayd vnto him, Beholde nowe, we haue heard say that the Kings of the house of Israel are mercifull Kings: we pray thee, let vs put sacke cloth about our loynes, and ropes about our heads, and goe out to the King of Israel: it may be that he will saue thy life.
Da sprachen seine Diener zu ihm: "Wir haben gehört, daß die Könige des Hauses Israel milde Könige seien. Wir wollen härene Gewänder um unsere Hüften legen und Stricke an unsere Häupter und so zum König von Israel hinausgehen. Vielleicht läßt er dich leben."
32 Then they gyrded sackecloth about their loynes, and put ropes about their heads, and came to the King of Israel, and sayd, Thy seruant Ben-hadad sayth, I pray thee, let me liue: and he sayd, Is he yet aliue? he is my brother.
So legten sie um ihre Hüften härene Gewänder und an ihre Häupter Stricke, gingen zum König von Israel und sprachen: "Dein Sklave Benhadad läßt sagen: 'Laß mich leben!'" Da sprach er: "Lebt er noch? Er ist mein Bruder."
33 Now the men tooke diliget heede, if they could catch any thing of him, and made haste, and sayd, Thy brother Ben-hadad. And he sayd, Go, bring him. So Ben-hadad came out vnto him, and he caused him to come vp vnto the chariot.
Die Leute aber faßten dies als gutes Vorzeichen auf. Sie griffen es von ihm schleunigst auf und sprachen. "Dein Bruder ist Benhadad?" Er sprach: "Geht hin und holt ihn!" Da ging Benhadad zu ihm hinaus. Und er ließ ihn auf seinen Wagen steigen.
34 And Ben-hadad sayd vnto him, The cities, which my father tooke from thy father, I wil restore, and thou shalt make streetes for thee in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will let thee goe with this couenant. So he made a couenant with him, and let him goe.
Da sprach er zu ihm: "Die Städte, die mein Vater deinem Vater weggenommen, will ich zurückgeben. Du darfst dir auch in Damaskus Bazare anlegen, wie mein Vater es in Samaria getan. Willst du mich auf Grund eines solchen Vertrages freilassen?" Da schloß er einen Vertrag mit ihm und ließ ihn frei.
35 Then a certaine man of the children of the Prophets sayd vnto his neighbour by the comandement of the Lord, Smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
Da sprach einer von den Prophetensöhnen zu seinem Gefährten auf des Herrn Geheiß: "Schlage mich!" Jener aber weigerte sich, ihn zu schlagen.
36 Then sayd he vnto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voyce of the Lord, beholde, as soone as thou art departed from me, a lyon shall slay thee. So when he was departed from him, a lyon found him and slew him.
Da sprach dieser zu ihm: "Weil du dem Befehle des Herrn nicht gehorchst, töte dich ein Löwe, wenn du von mir weggehst." Und als er von ihm ging, traf ihn ein Löwe und schlug ihn.
37 Then he founde another man, and sayde, Smite mee, I pray thee. And the man smote him, and in smiting wounded him.
Dann traf er einen anderen Mann und sprach: "Schlage mich!" Und dieser schlug ihn wund.
38 So the Prophet departed, and wayted for the King by the way, and disguised himselfe with ashes vpon his face.
Nun ging der Prophet hin und stellte sich dem König in den Weg. Dabei machte er sich unkenntlich durch eine Binde über den Augen.
39 And when the King came by, he cried vnto the King, and said, Thy seruant went into the middes of the battel: and beholde, there went away a man, whom another man brought vnto me, and sayd, Keepe this man: if he be lost, and want, thy life shall go for his life, or els thou shalt pay a talent of siluer.
Als nun der König vorüberkam, schrie er den König an und sprach: "Dein Sklave war mit in die Schlacht gezogen. Da trat ein Mann heraus, brachte mir einen Mann und sprach: 'Bewache diesen Mann! Wenn er vermißt wird, dann haftet dein Leben für das seinige, oder du mußt ein Talent Silber bezahlen.'
40 And as thy seruant had here and there to do, he was gone: And the King of Israel said vnto him, So shall thy iudgement be: thou hast giuen sentence.
Nun hatte dein Sklave bald da, bald dort zu tun. Da war jener nicht mehr da." Da sprach der König von Israel zu ihm: "Da hast du dein Urteil selbst gefällt."
41 And hee hasted, and tooke the ashes away from his face: and the King of Israel knewe him that he was of the Prophets:
Nun riß jener eilends die Binde von seinen Augen, und der König erkannte, daß er einer der Propheten war.
42 And he said vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let goe out of thine handes a man whom I appoynted to dye, thy life shall goe for his life, and thy people for his people.
Da sprach jener zu ihm: "So spricht der Herr: 'Weil du den mir verfallenen Mann freigelassen, so sei dein Leben für sein Leben, dein Volk für sein Volk!'"
43 And the King of Israel went to his house heauie and in displeasure, and came to Samaria.
Mißmutig und verstört ging der König von Israel in sein Haus. So kam er nach Samaria.
