1 Kings 17
1 And Eliiah the Tishbite one of the inhabitats of Gilead sayde vnto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liueth, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dewe nor rayne these yeeres, but according to my worde.
Og Elia frå Tisbe, ein av deim som hadde flutt inn ifrå Gilead, sagde til Ahab: «So sant Herren, Israels Gud, liver, han som eg er i tenesta hjå, so skal det ikkje koma regn eller dogg i desse åri utan eg segjer det.»
2 And the worde of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
Og Herrens ord kom til honom soleis:
3 Go hence, and turne thee Eastwarde, and hide thy selfe in the riuer Cherith, that is ouer against Iorden,
«Gakk herifrå og tak austetter og gøym deg attmed bekken Kerit på hi sida Jordan!
4 And thou shalt drinke of the riuer: and I haue comanded the rauens to feede thee there.
Av bekken skal du drikka, og føda til deg hev eg bode ramnarne syte for.»
5 So he went and did according vnto the word of the Lord: for he went, and remained by the riuer Cherith that is ouer against Iorden.
Då tok han ut og gjorde som Herren hadde sagt; han gjekk av stad og vart verande attmed bekken Kerit, som er austanfor Jordan.
6 And the rauens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the euening, and he dranke of the riuer.
Og ramnarne bar brød og kjøt til honom um morgonen og brød og kjøt um kvelden, og av bekken drakk han.
7 And after a while the riuer dryed vp, because there fell no rayne vpon the earth.
Men då ei tid var lidi, torna bekken, for det kom ikkje regn i landet.
8 And the worde of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
Då kom Herrens ord til honom; han sagde:
9 Vp, and get thee to Zarephath, which is in Zidon, and remaine there: beholde, I haue commanded a widow there to sustaine thee.
«Set i veg til Sarefat, som høyrer til Sidon, og gjev deg til der! Eg hev bede ei enkja syta for deg med føda.»
10 So he arose, and went to Zarephath: and when he came to the gate of the citie, beholde, the widowe was there gathering stickes: and he called her, and sayde, Bring me, I pray thee, a litle water in a vessel, that I may drinke.
Han tok i veg til Sarefat, og då han kom til byporten, fekk han auga på ei enkja som sanka ved. Og han ropa til: «Henta ein liten grand vatn åt meg i ei skål, so eg fær drikka!»
11 And as she was going to fet it, he called to her, and sayde, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsell of bread in thine hand.
Då ho no gjekk og skulde henta det, ropa han etter henne, og sagde: «Tak med deg eit stykke brød åt meg!»
12 And shee sayde, As the Lord thy God liueth, I haue not a cake, but euen an handfull of meale in a barrel, and a litle oyle in a cruse: and behold, I am gathering a fewe stickes for to go in, and dresse it for me and my sonne, that we may eate it, and dye.
Men ho svara: So sant Herren, din Gud, liver; eg eig ikkje ein brødleiv; ein neve mjøl i krukka og ein grand olje i krusi er det einaste; og no sankar eg saman eit par vedkjeppar og gjeng inn og lagar det til åt meg og son min; so fær me eta det og sidan døy.
13 And Eliiah said vnto her, Feare not, come, do as thou hast sayd, but make me thereof a litle cake first of all, and bring it vnto mee, and afterward make for thee, and thy sonne.
Då sagde Elia til henne: «Ottast ikkje, gakk inn og gjer som du hev sagt! Men laga fyrst ei liti kaka åt meg og ber ut åt meg! Sidan kann du få laga til åt deg sjølv og son din.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The meale in the barrel shall not be wasted, neither shall the oyle in the cruse be diminished, vnto the time that the Lord send rayne vpon the earth.
For so segjer Herren, Israels Gud: «Mjølkrukka skal ikkje verta tom, og ikkje skal det skorta på olje i krusi, til dess Herren let det regna på jordi.»»
15 So she went, and did as Eliiah sayd, and she did eate: so did he and her house for a certaine time.
Då gjekk ho av stad og gjorde som Elia hadde sagt; og dei åt, både han og ho og husfolket hennar, ei heil tid frametter.
16 The barrell of the meale wasted not, nor the oyle was spent out of the cruse, according to the worde of the Lord, which he spake by the hand of Eliiah.
Mjølkrukka vart ikkje tom, og det skorta ikkje på olje i krusi; det gjekk som Herren hadde tala gjenom Elia.
17 And after these things, the sonne of the wife of the house fell sicke, and his sicknesse was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
Men ei tid etter desse hendingarne vart son åt kvinna, ho som åtte huset, sjuk; og sjukdomen hans vart ovleg tung, og til slutt andast han.
18 And she said vnto Eliiah, What haue I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come vnto me to call my sinne to remembrance, and to slay my sonne?
Då sagde ho til Elia: «Kva hev du, gudsmann, å gjera hjå meg? Du er komen til meg for å draga synda mi fram i minnet, so son min måtte døy.»
19 And he said vnto her, Giue me thy sonne. and he tooke him out of her bosome, and caryed him vp into a chamber, where he abode, and laid him vpon his owne bed.
Men han sagde til henne: «Lat meg få guten din hit.» Og han tok honom or fanget hennar og bar honom upp på salen der han budde, og lagde honom på sengi si.
20 Then he called vnto the Lord, and sayde, O Lord my God, hast thou punished also this widowe, with whome I soiourne, by killing her sonne?
Og han ropa til Herren og sagde: «Herre, min Gud! At du kunde senda slik ulukka yver denne enkja som gjev meg herbyrge, og late son hennar døy!»
21 And he stretched himselfe vpon the childe three times, and called vnto the Lord, and saide, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this childes soule come into him againe.
Og han lutte seg burtyver barnet tri gongar og ropa til Herren og sagde: «Herre, min Gud! Lat sjæli til guten koma attende til honom!»
22 Then the Lord heard the voyce of Eliiah, and the soule of the child came into him againe, and he reuiued.
Og Herren høyrde Elia; guten fekk sjæli attende og vart livande.
23 And Eliiah tooke the childe, and brought him downe out of the chamber into the house, and deliuered him vnto his mother, and Eliiah sayd, Behold, thy sonne liueth.
Og Elia tok barnet ifrå salen og hadde det nedatt i huset og gav det til mori, og Elia sagde: «Sjå, son din liver!»
24 And the woman saide vnto Eliiah, Now I knowe that thou art a man of God, and that the worde of the Lord in thy mouth is true.
Då sagde kvinna til Elia: «No veit eg at du er ein gudsmann, og at Herrens ord i din munn er sanning.»
