1 Kings 16
1 Then the word of the Lord came to Iehu the sonne of Hanani against Baasha, saying,
La parole du Seigneur s’adressa à Jéhu, fils de Hanani, pour qu’il tint ce discours à Baasa:
2 Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee captaine ouer my people Israel, and thou hast walked in the way of Ieroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sinne, to prouoke me with their sinnes,
"Alors que je t’avais tiré de la poussière pour te faire prince de mon peuple d’Israël, tu as marché dans la voie de Jéroboam et tu as fait pécher les enfants d’Israël, provoquant ma colère par leurs péchés.
3 Beholde, I will take away the posteritie of Baasha, and the posteritie of his house, and will make thine house like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
Eh bien! Je ferai place nette derrière toi, Baasa, et derrière ta maison, je la traiterai comme la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat.
4 He that dyeth of Baashas stocke in the citie, him shall the dogs eate: and that man of him which dyeth in the fieldes, shall the foules of the ayre eate.
Ceux de Baasa qui mourront dans la ville seront dévorés par les chiens, et ceux qui mourront dans les champs seront la pâture des oiseaux du ciel…"
5 And the rest of the actes of Baasha and what he did, and his power, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Quant au reste de l’histoire de Baasa, à ses actes et à ses exploits, ils sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.
6 So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buryed in Tirzah, and Elah his sonne reigned in his steade.
Baasa, s’étant endormi avec ses pères, fut enseveli à Tirça. Il eut pour successeur son fils Ela.
7 And also by the hande of Iehu the sonne of Hanani the Prophet, came the worde of the Lord to Baasha, and to his house, that he shoulde be like the house of Ieroboam, euen for all the wickednes that he did in the sight of the Lord, in prouoking him with the worke of his hands, and because he killed him.
C’Est par l’organe de Jéhu, fils de Hanani, le prophète, que la parole de l’Eternel avait été prononcée contre Baasa et sa maison, soit à cause du mal qu’il avait fait aux yeux de l’Eternel, l’irritant par sa conduite et imitant la famille de Jéroboam, soit parce qu’il avait frappé cette dernière.
8 In the sixe and twentie yeere of Asa king of Iudah began Elah ye sonne of Baasha to reigne ouer Israel in Tirzah, and reigned two yeere.
Dans la vingt-sixième année du règne d’Asa, roi de Juda, Ela, fils de Baasa, devint roi d’Israël: il résida deux ans à Tirça.
9 And his seruant Zimri, captaine of halfe his charets, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah drinking, til he was drunken in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.
Son officier Zimri, qui commandait la moitié de sa cavalerie, forma un complot contre lui, tandis qu’il s’enivrait à Tirça dans la maison d’Arça, son intendant en cette ville.
10 And Zimri came and smote him and killed him, in the seuen and twentie yeere of Asa king of Iudah, and reigned in his stead.
Zimri survint et le frappa à mort (c’était la vingt-septième année du règne d’Asa, roi de Juda), et devint roi à sa place.
11 And when he was King, and sate on his throne, he slew al the house of Baasha, not leauing thereof one to pisse against a wall, neither of his kinsfolkes nor of his friendes.
Devenu roi et en possession du trône, il fit périr toute la maison de Baasa, ses parents et ses amis, sans en épargner la plus infime créature.
12 So did Zimri destroy all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord which he spake against Baasha by the hande of Iehu the Prophet,
Zimri détruisit ainsi toute la maison de Baasa, selon la parole de l’Eternel, transmise à Baasa par le prophète Jéhu:
13 For all the sinnes of Baasha, and sinnes of Elah his sonne, which they sinned and made Israel to sinne, and prouoked the Lord God of Israel with their vanities.
en punition de tous les péchés de Baasa et de son fils Ela, péchés qu’ils commirent et firent commettre aux Israélites, irritant le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël, par leurs vaines idoles.
14 And the rest of the actes of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Pour le reste de l’histoire et des actes d’Ela, ils sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.
15 In the seuen and twentie yeere of Asa King of Iudah did Zimri reigne seuen dayes in Tirzah, and the people was then in campe against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistims.
Dans la vingt-septième année du règne d’Asa, roi de Juda, Zimri devint roi et résida sept jours à Tirça; le peuple assiégeait alors Ghibetôn, ville des Philistins.
16 And the people of the hoste heard saye, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slayne the King. Wherefore all Israel made Omri the captaine of the hoste, king ouer Israel that same day, euen in the hoste.
Le peuple campé là ayant appris que Zimri avait conspiré et même avait tué le roi, tout Israël proclama roi Omri, chef de l’armée d’Israël, ce jour-là même, dans le camp.
17 Then Omri went vp from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.
Omri, accompagné de tout Israël, se retira de Ghibetôn et vint assiéger Tirça.
18 And when Zimri saw, that the citie was taken, he went into the palace of the Kings house, and burnt himselfe, and the Kings house with fire, and so dyed,
Zimri, voyant que la ville était prise, pénétra dans le donjon du palais du roi, mit de sa propre main le feu au palais et périt dans les flammes.
19 For his sinnes which hee sinned, in doing that which is euil in the sight of the Lord, in walking in the way of Ieroboam, and in his sinnes which he did, causing Israel to sinne.
C’Était la punition des péchés qu’il avait commis en faisant ce qui déplaît à l’Eternel, en suivant la conduite de Jéroboam en ce qui concerne les péchés qu’il avait fait commettre à Israël.
20 And the rest of the actes of Zimri, and his treason that hee wrought, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kinges of Israel?
Pour le reste de l’histoire de Zimri et du complot qu’il avait organisé, on le trouve consigné dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.
21 Then were the people of Israel deuided into two partes: for halfe the people followed Tibni the sonne of Ginath to make him King, and the other halfe followed Omri.
Le peuple israélite se partagea alors en deux moitiés, dont l’une s’attacha à Tibni, fils de Ghinat, qu’elle proclama roi, et l’autre à Omri.
22 But the people that folowed Omri, preuayled against the people that followed Tibni the sonne of Ginath: so Tibni dyed, and Omri reigned.
Les partisans d’Omri triomphèrent de ceux de Tibni, fils de Ghinat; Tibni périt et Omri resta roi.
23 In the one and thirtie yeere of Asa King of Iudah bega Omri to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned twelue yeere. Sixe yeere reigned he in Tirzah.
C’Est dans la trente et unième année du règne d’Asa, roi de Juda, qu’Omri devint roi d’Israël; il régna douze ans, dont six à Tirça.
24 And he bought the mountaine Samaria of one Shemer for two talents of siluer, and buylt in the mountaine, and called the name of the citie, which he buylt, after the name of Shemer lord of the mountaine, Samaria.
Il acquit de Chémer la montagne de Samarie, pour deux kikkar d’argent; et il bâtit sur cette montagne une ville à laquelle il donna le nom de Samarie, d’après celui de Chémer, propriétaire de la montagne.
25 But Omri did euil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse then all that were before him.
Omri fit ce qui déplaît à l’Eternel, et se conduisit plus mal qu’aucun de ses devanciers.
26 For he walked in all the way of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and in his sinnes wherewith he made Israel to sinne in prouoking the Lord God of Israel with their vanities.
Il imita en tout la conduite de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, et les péchés qu’il avait fait commettre aux Israélites, irritant le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël, par leurs vaines idoles.
27 And the rest of the actes of Omri, that hee did, and his strength that he shewed, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Quant au reste de l’histoire d’Omri et à ses hauts faits, ils sont mentionnés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.
28 And Omri slept with his fathers, and was buryed in Samaria: and Ahab his sonne reigned in his stead.
Omri, s’étant endormi avec ses pères, fut inhumé à Samarie, et eut pour successeur son fils Achab.
29 Nowe Ahab the sonne of Omri began to reigne ouer Israel, in the eyght and thirtie yeere of Asa king of Iudah: and Ahab the sonne of Omri reigned ouer Israel in Samaria two and twenty yere.
Achab, fils d’Omri, devint roi d’Israël l’an trente-huit du règne d’Asa, roi de Juda; il régna sur Israël, à Samarie, vingt-deux ans.
30 And Ahab the sonne of Omri did worse in ye sight of the Lord then al that were before him.
Achab, fils d’Omri, fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur, plus que tous ceux qui l’avaient précédé.
31 For was it a light thing for him to walke in the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, except hee tooke Iezebel also the daughter of Ethbaal King of the Zidonians to wife, and went and serued Baal, and worshipped him?
Ne se contentant pas d’imiter les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, il prit pour femme Jézabel, fille d’Etbaal, roi des Sidoniens, puis s’adonna au culte de Baal et se prosterna devant lui.
32 Also he reared vp an altar to Baal in the house of Baal, which he had buylt in Samaria.
Il érigea un autel en son honneur, dans le temple qu’il lui avait bâti à Samarie.
33 And Ahab made a groue, and Ahab proceeded, and did prouoke the Lord God of Israel more then all the kings of Israel that were before him.
Achab fit aussi une Achêra. Bref, il excita, par sa conduite, la colère de l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël, plus que tous les rois d’Israël, ses prédécesseurs.
34 In his dayes did Hiel the Bethelite buylde Iericho: he layed the foundation thereof in Abiram his eldest sonne, and set vp the gates thereof in his yongest sonne Segub, according to the worde of the Lord which he spake by Ioshua the sonne of Nun.
Sous son règne, Hiél, de Béthel, rebâtit Jéricho; la pose des fondations coûta la vie à son fils aîné, Abiram, et celle des portes à Segoub, son plus jeune fils, conformément à la parole de Dieu transmise par l’organe de Josué, fils de Noun.
