1 Chronicles 23
1 So when Dauid was olde and full of dayes, he made Salomon his sonne King ouer Israel.
David, âgé et rassasié de jours, établit Salomon, son fils, roi sur Israël.
2 And hee gathered together all the princes of Israel with the Priestes and the Leuites.
Il assembla tous les chefs d’Israël, les sacrificateurs et les Lévites.
3 And the Leuites were numbred from ye age of thirtie yeere and aboue, and their nomber according to their summe was eight and thirtie thousand men.
On fit le dénombrement des Lévites, depuis l’âge de trente ans et au-dessus; comptés par tête et par homme, ils se trouvèrent au nombre de trente-huit mille.
4 Of these foure and twentie thousande were set to aduance the worke of the house of the Lord, and sixe thousand were ouerseers and iudges.
Et David dit: Qu’il y en ait vingt-quatre mille pour veiller aux offices de la maison de l’Éternel, six mille comme magistrats et juges,
5 And foure thousand were porters, and foure thousande praised the Lord with instruments which he made to praise the Lord.
quatre mille comme portiers, et quatre mille chargés de louer l’Éternel avec les instruments que j’ai faits pour le célébrer.
6 So Dauid deuided offices vnto them, to wit, to the sonnes of Leui, to Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
David les divisa en classes d’après les fils de Lévi, Guerschon, Kehath et Merari.
7 Of the Gershonites were Laadan and Shimei.
Des Guerschonites: Laedan et Schimeï.
8 The sonnes of Laadan, the chiefe was Iehiel, and Zetham and Ioel, three.
Fils de Laedan: le chef Jehiel, Zétham et Joël, trois.
9 The Sonnes of Shimei, Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haram, three: these were the chiefe fathers of Laadan.
Fils de Schimeï: Schelomith, Haziel et Haran, trois. Ce sont là les chefs des maisons paternelles de la famille de Laedan.
10 Also the sonnes of Shimei were Iahath, Zina, Ieush, and Beriah: these foure were ye sonnes of Shimei.
Fils de Schimeï: Jachath, Zina, Jeusch et Beria. Ce sont là les quatre fils de Schimeï.
11 And Iahath was the chiefe, and Zizah the seconde, but Ieush and Beriah had not many sonnes: therfore they were in the families of their father, counted but as one.
Jachath était le chef, et Zina le second; Jeusch et Beria n’eurent pas beaucoup de fils, et ils formèrent une seule maison paternelle dans le dénombrement.
12 The sonnes of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron aud Vzziel, foure.
Fils de Kehath: Amram, Jitsehar, Hébron et Uziel, quatre.
13 The sonnes of Amram, Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated to sanctifie the most holy place, hee and his sonnes for euer to burne incense before the Lord, to minister to him, and to blesse in his Name for euer.
Fils d’Amram: Aaron et Moïse. Aaron fut mis à part pour être sanctifié comme très saint, lui et ses fils à perpétuité, pour offrir les parfums devant l’Éternel, pour faire son service, et pour bénir à toujours en son nom.
14 Moses also the man of God, and his children were named with the tribe of Leui.
Mais les fils de Moïse, homme de Dieu, furent comptés dans la tribu de Lévi.
15 The sonnes of Moses were Gershom, and Eliezer,
Fils de Moïse: Guerschom et Éliézer.
16 Of the sonnes of Gershom was Shebuel the chiefe.
Fils de Guerschom: Schebuel, le chef.
17 And the sonne of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chiefe: for Eliezer had none other sonnes: but the sonnes of Rehabiah were very many.
Et les fils d’Éliézer furent: Rechabia, le chef; Éliézer n’eut pas d’autre fils, mais les fils de Rechabia furent très nombreux.
18 The sone of Izhar was Shelomith ye chiefe.
Fils de Jitsehar: Schelomith, le chef.
19 The sonnes of Hebron were Ieriah the first, Amariah the second, Iahaziel the third, and Iekamiam the fourth.
Fils d’Hébron: Jerija, le chef; Amaria, le second; Jachaziel, le troisième; et Jekameam, le quatrième.
20 The sones of Vzziel were Michah the first, and Isshiah the second.
Fils d’Uziel: Michée, le chef; et Jischija, le second.
21 The sonnes of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sonnes of Mahli, Eleazar and Kish.
Fils de Merari: Machli et Muschi. Fils de Machli: Éléazar et Kis.
22 And Eleazar dyed, and had no sonnes, but daughters, and their brethren the sonnes of Kish tooke them.
Éléazar mourut sans avoir de fils; mais il eut des filles, que prirent pour femmes les fils de Kis, leurs frères.
23 The sonnes of Mushi were Mahli, and Eder, and Ierimoth, three.
Fils de Muschi: Machli, Éder et Jerémoth, trois.
24 These were the sonnes of Leui according to the house of their fathers, euen the chiefe fathers according to their offices, according to the nomber of names and their summe that did the worke for the seruice of the house of the Lord from the age of twentie yeeres and aboue.
Ce sont là les fils de Lévi, selon leurs maisons paternelles, les chefs des maisons paternelles, d’après le dénombrement qu’on en fit en comptant les noms par tête. Ils étaient employés au service de la maison de l’Éternel, depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus.
25 For Dauid sayde, The Lord God of Israel hath giuen rest vnto his people, that they may dwell in Ierusalem for euer.
Car David dit: L’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, a donné du repos à son peuple, et il habitera pour toujours à Jérusalem;
26 And also the Leuites shall no more beare the Tabernacle and al the vessels for the seruice thereof.
et les Lévites n’auront plus à porter le tabernacle et tous les ustensiles pour son service.
27 Therefore according to the last wordes of Dauid, the Leuites were nombred from twentie yeere and aboue,
Ce fut d’après les derniers ordres de David qu’eut lieu le dénombrement des fils de Lévi depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus.
28 And their office was vnder the hand of the sonnes of Aaron, for the seruice of the house of the Lord in the courtes, and chambers, and in the purifiyng of all holy thinges, and in the worke of the seruice of the house of God,
Placés auprès des fils d’Aaron pour le service de la maison de l’Éternel, ils avaient à prendre soin des parvis et des chambres, de la purification de toutes les choses saintes, des ouvrages concernant le service de la maison de Dieu,
29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine floure, for the meate offring, and for the vnleauened cakes, and for the fryed things, and for that which was rosted, and for all measures and cise,
des pains de proposition, de la fleur de farine pour les offrandes, des galettes sans levain, des gâteaux cuits sur la plaque et des gâteaux frits, de toutes les mesures de capacité et de longueur:
30 And for to stand euery morning, to giue thanks and praise to the Lord, and likewise at euen,
ils avaient à se présenter chaque matin et chaque soir, afin de louer et de célébrer l’Éternel,
31 And to offer all burnt offrings vnto the Lord, in the Sabbaths, in the moneths, and at the appointed times, according to the nomber and according to their custome continually before the Lord,
et à offrir continuellement devant l’Éternel tous les holocaustes à l’Éternel, aux sabbats, aux nouvelles lunes et aux fêtes, selon le nombre et les usages prescrits.
32 And that they should keepe the charge of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and the charge of ye holy place, and the charge of ye sonnes of Aaron their brethren in the seruice of ye house of the Lord.
Ils donnaient leurs soins à la tente d’assignation, au sanctuaire, et aux fils d’Aaron, leurs frères, pour le service de la maison de l’Éternel.
