1 Chronicles 21
1 And Satan stoode vp against Israel, and prouoked Dauid to nomber Israel.
Or Satan s’éleva contre Israël, et excita David à dénombrer Israël.
2 Therefore Dauid said to Ioab, and to the rulers of the people, Go, and nomber Israel from Beer-sheba euen to Dan, and bring it to me, that I may knowe the nomber of them.
Et David dit à Joab et aux princes du peuple: Allez, et dénombrez Israël, depuis Bersabée jusqu’à Dan, et apportez-moi le nombre, afin que je le sache.
3 And Ioab answered, The Lord increase his people an hundreth times so many as they be, O my lord the King: are they not all my lords seruats? wherefore doeth my lord require this thing? why should he be a cause of trespasse to Israel?
Et Joab répondit: Que le Seigneur accroisse son peuple au centuple de ce qu’il est: est-ce, mon seigneur roi, que tous ne sont pas vos serviteurs? Pourquoi mon seigneur recherche-t-il ce qui sera imputé à péché à Israël?
4 Neuerthelesse the Kings word preuailed against Ioab. And Ioab departed and went thorowe all Israel, and returned to Ierusalem.
Mais la parole du roi prévalut, et Joab sortit et parcourut tout Israël, et il revint à Jérusalem.
5 And Ioab gaue the nomber and summe of the people vnto Dauid: and all Israel were eleuen hundreth thousande men that drewe sword: and Iudah was foure hundreth and seuentie thousande men that drewe sword.
Et il donna à David le nombre de tous ceux qu’il avait visités, et le nombre total d’Israël se trouva onze cent mille hommes d’Israël, tous tirant le glaive; mais de Juda, quatre cent soixante-dix mille guerriers.
6 But the Leuites and Beniamin counted he not among them: for the Kings worde was abominable to Ioab.
Car, pour Lévi et Benjamin, Joab ne les dénombra point, parce que c’était à regret qu’il exécutait l’ordre du roi.
7 And God was displeased with this thing: therefore he smote Israel.
En effet, ce qui avait été commandé déplut à Dieu, et il frappa Israël.
8 Then Dauid saide vnto God, I haue sinned greatly, because I haue done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, remooue the iniquitie of thy seruant: for I haue done very foolishly.
Et David dit à Dieu: J’ai péché grièvement en faisant cela. Je vous conjure, effacez l’iniquité de votre serviteur, parce que j’ai agi en insensé.
9 And the Lord spake vnto Gad Dauids Seer, saying,
Alors le Seigneur parla à Gad, le Voyant de David, disant:
10 Goe and tell Dauid, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three thinges: choose thee one of them, that I may doe it vnto thee.
Va et parle à David, et dis-lui: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Je te donne l’option de trois choses; choisis celle que tu voudras, et je te la ferai.
11 So Gad came to Dauid, and sayde vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Take to thee
Lors donc que Gad fut venu vers David, il lui dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Choisis ce que tu voudras:
12 Either three yeeres famine, or three moneths to be destroyed before thine aduersaries, and the sworde of thine enemies to take thee, or els the sworde of the Lord and pestilence in the lande three dayes, that the Angel of the Lord may destroy throughout all the coastes of Israel: nowe therefore aduise thee, what word I shall bring againe to him that sent me.
Ou, durant trois ans, une famine; ou, durant trois mois, fuir devant les ennemis et ne pouvoir pas éviter leur glaive; ou que, pendant trois jours, le glaive du Seigneur et une peste règnent dans le pays, et qu’un ange du Seigneur tue dans tous les confins d’Israël. Maintenant donc, vois ce que je dois répondre à celui qui m’a envoyé.
13 And Dauid said vnto Gad, I am in a wonderfull strait. let me nowe fall into the hande of the Lord: for his mercies are exceeding great, and let me not fall into the hande of man.
Et David dit à Gad: De toutes parts les angoisses me pressent; mais il vaut mieux pour moi que je tombe dans les mains du Seigneur (parce que ses miséricordes sont sans nombre), que dans les mains des hommes,
14 So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seuentie thousande men.
Le Seigneur envoya donc une peste en Israël, et il mourut d’Israël soixante-dix mille hommes.
15 And God sent the Angel into Ierusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, the Lord behelde, and repented of the euill and sayde to the Angel that destroyed, It is nowe ynough, let thine hande cease. Then the Angel of the Lord stoode by the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
Il envoya aussi un ange à Jérusalem pour la frapper; et, lorsqu’elle était frappée, le Seigneur le vit, et fut touché de compassion à cause de la grandeur du mal; il commanda donc à l’ange qui frappait: Il suffit; qu’à l’instant ta main s’arrête. Or l’ange du Seigneur se tenait alors près de l’aire d’Ornan, le Jébuséen.
16 And Dauid lift vp his eyes, and sawe the Angel of the Lord stande betweene the earth and the heauen with his sworde drawen in his hand, and stretched out towarde Ierusalem. Then Dauid and the Elders of Israel, which were clothed in sacke, fell vpon their faces.
Et David, levant ses yeux, vit l’ange du Seigneur debout entre le ciel et la terre, et un glaive nu en sa main, et tourné contre Jérusalem; alors lui aussi bien que les anciens, revêtus de cilices, tombèrent inclinés vers la terre.
17 And Dauid said vnto God, Is it not I that commanded to nomber the people? It is euen I that haue sinned and haue committed euil, but these sheepe what haue they done? O Lord my God, I beseech thee, let thine hande be on me and on my fathers house, and not on thy people for their destruction.
Et David dit à Dieu: N’est-ce pas moi qui ai commandé de dénombrer le peuple? C’est moi qui ai péché; c’est moi qui ai fait le mal; mais ce troupeau, qu’a-t-il mérité? Seigneur mon Dieu, je vous conjure, que votre main se tourne contre moi et contre la maison de mon père; mais que votre peuple ne soit pas frappé.
18 Then the Angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to Dauid, that Dauid should goe vp, and set vp an altar vnto the Lord in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
Or l’ange du Seigneur ordonna à Gad de dire à David qu’il montât et dressât un autel au Seigneur Dieu dans l’aire d’Ornan, le Jébuséen.
19 So Dauid went vp according to the saying of Gad, which he had spoken in the Name of the Lord.
David monta donc, suivant la parole que Gad lui avait dite au nom du Seigneur.
20 And Ornan turned about, and sawe the Angel, and his foure sonnes, that were with him, hid them selues, and Ornan thresshed wheat.
Mais lorsqu’Ornan eut levé les yeux, et qu’il eut vu l’ange du Seigneur, ainsi que ses quatre fils, ils se cachèrent; car, en ce moment-là, il battait du blé dans son aire.
21 And as Dauid came to Ornan, Ornan looked and sawe Dauid, and went out of the thresshing floore, and bowed himselfe to Dauid with his face to the grounde.
Lors donc que David venait vers Ornan, Ornan l’aperçut, et s’avança de l’aire au-devant de lui, puis se prosterna devant lui, incliné vers la terre.
22 And Dauid saide to Ornan, Giue me the place of thy thresshing floore, that I may builde an altar therein vnto the Lord: giue it me for sufficient money, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Et David lui dit: Donne-moi la place de ton aire, afin que j’y bâtisse un autel au Seigneur; en sorte que tu reçoives autant d’argent qu’elle vaut, et que la plaie soit détournée du peuple.
23 Then Ornan saide vnto Dauid, Take it to thee, and let my lord the King do that which seemeth him good: loe, I giue thee bullockes for burnt offrings, and thresshing instruments for wood, and wheat for meate offring, I giue it all.
Or Ornan répondit à David: Prenez, et que mon seigneur le roi fasse ce qui lui plaît: et je lui donne aussi les bœufs pour l’holocauste, les herses pour le bois, et le blé pour le sacrifice; je lui donne tout cela avec plaisir.
24 And King Dauid saide to Ornan, Not so: but I will bye it for sufficient money: for I wil not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offrings without cost.
Et le roi David lui dit: Pas du tout, la chose ne se fera point ainsi, mais je donnerai autant d’argent qu’elle en vaut; car je ne dois pas te l’ôter, et offrir ainsi au Seigneur des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien.
25 So Dauid gaue to Ornan for that place sixe hundreth shekels of golde by weight.
David donna donc à Ornan, pour la place de l’aire, six cents sicles d’or d’un poids très juste.
26 And Dauid built there an altar vnto the Lord, and offred burnt offrings, and peace offrings, and called vpon the Lord, and he answered him by fire from heauen vpon the altar of burnt offring.
Et il bâtit là un autel au Seigneur, et il offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques; et il invoqua le Seigneur, qui l’exauça par le moyen du feu descendu du ciel sur l’autel de l’holocauste.
27 And when the Lord had spoken to the Angel, he put vp his sworde againe into his sheath.
Et le Seigneur ordonna à l’ange, et il remit son glaive dans le fourreau.
28 At that time when Dauid sawe that the Lord had heard him in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite, then he sacrificed there.
Aussitôt donc David, voyant que le Seigneur l’avait exaucé dans l’aire d’Ornan, le Jébuséen, immola dans ce lieu des victimes.
29 (But the Tabernacle of the Lord which Moses had made in the wildernesse, and the altar of burnt offring were at that season in the hie place at Gibeon.
Mais le tabernacle du Seigneur que Moïse avait fait dans le désert, et l’autel des holocaustes, étaient à cette époque au haut lieu de Gabaon.
30 And Dauid could not go before it to aske counsel at God: for he was afraide of the sworde of the Angel of the Lord.)
Et David n’eut pas la force d’aller jusqu’à l’autel pour y prier Dieu, parce qu’il avait été frappé d’une trop grande crainte en voyant le glaive de l’ange du Seigneur.
