< Revelation 21 >

1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared, and the sea no longer existed.
Then I saw new heavens and a new earth. The former heavens and the former earth had passed away; and the sea has ceased to be.
2 I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, descending from God out of heaven, prepared like a bride made beautiful for her husband.
And I saw the Holy City, Jerusalem, descending new out of heaven from God, like a bride adorned in readiness for her husband.
3 I heard a loud voice from the throne say, “Now God's home is with human beings and he will live with them. They will be his people. God himself will be with them as their God.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne, which said – ‘See! The tent of God is set up among people. God will live among them, and they will be his Peoples, and God himself will be among them,
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will never happen again. There will be no mourning or crying or pain ever again for the former world no longer exists.”
and he will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, nor will there be any more grief or crying or pain. The old order has passed away.’
5 The one who sits on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” He told me, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
And he who was seated on the throne said – ‘See, I make all things new!’ And he said – ‘Write this, for these words may be trusted and are true.’
6 Then he said to me, “Everything's done! I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. To anyone who is thirsty I will give the free gift of water from the spring of the water of life.
And he said to me – ‘They are fulfilled. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the End. To those who thirst I will give of the spring of the water of life, freely.
7 Those who are victorious will inherit all these things, and I will be their God and they shall be my children.
Those who conquer will enter into possession of these things, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
8 But anyone who is a coward, who doesn't trust me, who does disgusting things, who is a murderer, who is sexually immoral, who practices witchcraft, who worships idols, who tells lies—their chosen place is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.” (Limnē Pyr g3041 g4442)
But as for cowards, unbelievers, the degraded, murderers, the impure, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars – their place will be in the burning lake of fire and sulfur. That is the Second Death.’ (Limnē Pyr g3041 g4442)
9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and spoke to me. He told me, “Come with me. I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife.”
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls, and were laden with the seven last curses, came and spoke to me. ‘Come here,’ he said, ‘and I will show you the Bride, the Wife of the Lamb.’
10 He took me in the Spirit to the top of a very high mountain. There he showed me the holy city Jerusalem descending from God out of heaven,
He carried me away in a trance to a great high mountain, and showed me Jerusalem, the Holy City, descending out of heaven from God, filled with the glory of God.
11 shining with the glory of God's presence. The light sparkled like that from a gemstone, a jasper, clear and bright.
Its brilliance was like a precious stone, like a jasper, transparent as crystal.
12 The city wall was high and thick, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. On the gates were inscribed the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.
It had a great high wall, in which were twelve gates; and at these gates there were twelve angels, and there were names inscribed on the gates, the names of the twelve tribes of the Israelites.
13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south, and three on the west.
There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.
14 The city wall had twelve foundations, and inscribed on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, on which were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The angel who spoke to me had a golden measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.
And the angel who was speaking to me had as a measure a gold rod, with which to measure the city and its gates and its wall.
16 The city was square. The length was the same as the width. He measured the city with the rod, it was 12,000 furlongs. The length, width, and height were all the same.
The city is square; the length and the breadth are the same. The angel measured with his rod; it was twelve hundred miles; its length, and breadth, and height are equal.
17 He measured the wall and it was 144 cubits thick in human measurements that the angel was using.
Then he measured the wall; it was two hundred and eighty-eight feet, as people measure, that is as the angel measured.
18 The wall was built out of jasper. The city was made of pure gold that looked like glass.
The material of the wall of the city was jasper, and the city was built of pure gold, which shone like clear glass.
19 The foundations of the city wall were decorated with all kinds of gemstones. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
The foundations of the wall of the city were ornamented with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was a jasper; the second a sapphire; the third a chalcedony; the fourth an emerald;
20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth, chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
the fifth a sardonyx; the sixth a carnelian; the seventh a chrysolite; the eighth a beryl; the ninth a topaz; the tenth a chrysoprase; the eleventh a hyacinth; and the twelfth an amethyst.
21 The twelve gates were made of pearl, each one made from a single pearl. The main street was made of pure gold, clear like glass.
The twelve gates were made of twelve pearls, each gate of one pearl. The street of the city was of pure gold, transparent as glass.
22 I did not see a temple there, because the Lord God the All-powerful One, and the Lamb, they are its temple.
And I saw no Temple there, for the Lord, our God, the Almighty, and the Lamb are its Temple.
23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it because the glory of God provides its light—the Lamb is its lamp.
The city has no need of the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God illuminated it, and its Lamp was the Lamb.
24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory into the city.
The nations walk by the light of it; and the kings of the earth bring their glory into it.
25 The gates of the city will never be shut during the day (and there will be no night there).
Its gates will never be shut by day, and there will be no night there.
26 The nations' honor and glory will be brought into the city.
And people will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.
27 Nothing unclean will ever enter into it, or anyone who worships idols, or who is a liar—only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Never will any unhallowed thing enter it, nor they whose life is shameful and false, but only those whose names have been written in the Lamb’s book of life.
