< Psalms 80 >

1 For the music director. A psalm of Asaph. To the tune “Lilies of the Covenant.” Please hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead the descendants of Joseph like a flock. You who sit on your throne above the cherubim, shine out
Unto the end. For those who will be changed. The testimony of Asaph. A Psalm. The One who reigns over Israel: Be attentive. For you lead Joseph like a sheep. The One who sits upon the cherubim: Shine forth
2 in the presence of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Gather together your power and come to save us!
in the presence of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Awaken your power and draw near, so as to accomplish our salvation.
3 God, please restore us! Let your face shine on us so we can be saved.
Convert us, O God. And reveal your face, and we will be saved.
4 Lord God Almighty, how long will you be angry with the prayers of your people?
O Lord, God of hosts, how long will you be angry over the prayer of your servant?
5 You fed them with the bread of tears, and gave them a full bowl of tears to drink.
How long will you feed us the bread of tears, and give us to drink a full measure of tears?
6 You turn us into victims our neighbors fight over; our enemies mock us.
You have set us as a contradiction to our neighbors. And our enemies have ridiculed us.
7 God Almighty, please restore us! Let your face shine on us so we can be saved!
O God of hosts, convert us. And reveal your face, and we will be saved.
8 You carried us out of Egypt like a vine. You drove out the heathen nations, and then you planted the vine.
You have transferred a vineyard from Egypt. You have cast out the Gentiles, and planted it.
9 You prepared the ground for the vine. It took root and filled the land.
You were the leader of the journey in its sight. You planted its roots, and it filled the earth.
10 The mountains were covered by its shade; its branches covered the great cedars.
Its shadow covered the hills, and its branches covered the cedars of God.
11 It sent its branches as far west as the Mediterranean Sea, and its shoots as far east as the Euphrates River.
It extended its new branches even to the sea, and its new seedlings even to the river.
12 So why have you broken down the walls that protect it so that everyone who passes by can steal its fruit?
So then, why have you destroyed its walls, so that all those who pass by the way gather its grapes?
13 Wild pigs from the forest eat it, wild animals feed on it.
The wild boar of the forest has trampled it, and a single wild beast has laid waste to it.
14 God Almighty, please return to us! Look down from heaven and see what's happening to us! Come and care for this vine
Turn back, O God of hosts. Look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vineyard;
15 that you planted yourself, this son that you brought up yourself.
and complete what your right hand has planted, and look upon the son of man, whom you have confirmed for yourself.
16 We, your vine, have been chopped down and burned. May those who did this die when you glare at them.
Whatever has been set on fire and dug under will perish at the rebuke of your countenance.
17 Protect the man who stands beside you; strengthen the son you have chosen.
Let your hand be over the man on your right, and over the son of man, whom you have confirmed for yourself.
18 Then we will not turn away from you. Revive us so we can pray to you.
For we do not depart from you, and you will revive us. And we will invoke your name.
19 Lord God Almighty, please restore us! Let your face shine on us so we can be saved.
O Lord, God of hosts, convert us. And reveal your face, and we will be saved.
