John 13
1 It was the day before the Passover festival, and Jesus knew that the time had come to leave this world and go to his Father. He had loved those in the world who were his own, and he now demonstrated his complete and utter love for them.
Vor dem Passafest aber, da Jesus wußte, daß seine Stunde gekommen war, daß er hingienge aus dieser Welt zum Vater, bewies er den Seinigen die Liebe, die er zu ihnen gehabt in der Welt, bis ans Ende.
2 It was during supper, and the devil had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the mind of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot.
Und bei einer Mahlzeit, als der Teufel schon dem Judas Simons Sohn dem Iskarioten in das Herz gegeben hatte, ihn zu verraten,
3 Jesus knew that the Father had placed everything under his authority, and that he had come from God and was going back to God.
in dem Bewußtsein, daß der Vater ihm alles in die Hände gegeben, und daß er von Gott ausgegangen sei und zu Gott hingehe,
4 So Jesus stood up from eating supper, took off his robe and wrapped a towel around his waist.
erhebt er sich vom Mahle, legt die Kleider ab, nahm eine Schürze und gürtete sich damit.
5 He poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had wrapped around him.
Dann gießt er Wasser in den Waschkrug und fieng an den Jüngern die Füße zu netzen, und mit der Schürze zu trocknen, mit der er sich gegürtet hatte.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who asked him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
So kommt er an Simon Petrus, der sagt zu ihm: Herr, du netzest mir die Füße?
7 Jesus replied, “You won't realize what I'm doing for you now. But one day you'll understand.”
Antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihm: was ich thue, verstehst du jetzt nicht; du wirst es aber hernach erkennen.
8 “No!” Peter protested. “You'll never wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “If I don't wash you, you have no part with me.” (aiōn g165)
Sagt zu ihm Petrus: du sollst mir nimmermehr die Füße netzen in Ewigkeit. Antwortete Jesus ihm: wenn ich dich nicht netze, hast du keinen Teil an mir. (aiōn g165)
9 “Then, Lord, wash not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” Simon Peter exclaimed.
Sagt zu ihm Simon Petrus: Herr, nicht blos meine Füße, sondern auch die Hände und das Haupt.
10 Jesus responded, “Those who have had a bath only need to wash their feet and then they're clean all over. You are clean—but not all of you.”
Jesus sagt zu ihm: der abgewaschen ist, hat nicht nötig, sich weiter netzen zu lassen, sondern er ist ganz rein: ihr seid auch rein, doch nicht alle.
11 For he knew who was going to betray him. That's why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
Denn er kannte seinen Verräter; darum sagte er: ihr seid nicht alle rein.
12 After Jesus had washed their feet, he put his robe back on, and sat down. “Do you understand what I've done to you?” he asked them.
Als er ihnen die Füße genetzt und seine Kleider wieder genommen und sich niedergesetzt hatte, sprach er zu ihnen: Versteht ihr, was ich euch gethan habe?
13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that's who I am.
Ihr nennet mich Meister und Herr, und ihr habt recht, denn ich bin es.
14 So if I, your Teacher and Lord, washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet.
Wenn nun ich, der Herr und Meister, euch die Füße genetzt habe, so seid auch ihr schuldig, einander die Füße zu netzen.
15 I have set you an example, so you should do just as I did.
Denn ich habe euch ein Vorbild gegeben, daß auch ihr thuet, wie ich euch gethan habe.
16 I tell you the truth, servants are not more important than their master, and the one sent is not greater than the sender.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: der Knecht ist nicht mehr als sein Herr, noch der Abgesandte mehr als der ihn gesandt hat.
17 Now that you understand these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
So ihr das wisset, selig seid ihr, wenn ihr darnach thut.
18 I'm not talking about all of you—I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill Scripture: ‘The one who shares my food has turned against me.’
Nicht von euch allen rede ich, denn ich weiß, welche ich auserwählt habe; aber es soll die Schrift erfüllt werden: der mit mir das Brot isset, hat seine Ferse wider mich erhoben.
19 I'm telling you this now, before it happens, so when it does happen you will be convinced that I am who I am.
Nunmehr sage ich es euch, bevor es geschieht, daß ihr glaubet, wenn es geschieht, daß das auf mich geht.
20 I tell you the truth, whoever welcomes anyone I send welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me.”
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: wer aufnimmt, den ich sende, nimmt mich auf; wer aber mich aufnimmt, nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat.
21 After he had said this, Jesus was deeply troubled, and declared: “I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.”
Als Jesus dieses gesagt, ward er erschüttert im Geiste und zeugte und sprach: wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: einer von euch wird mich verraten.
22 The disciples looked at each other, wondering which of them Jesus was talking about.
Die Jünger sahen einander an, ratlos, wen er meine.
23 The disciple whom Jesus loved was sitting next to Jesus at the table, leaning close him.
Nun lag einer von seinen Jüngern am Busen Jesus, den Jesus lieb hatte.
24 Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus which one he was talking about.
Dem also winkt Simon Petrus und sagt zu ihm: frage du, wen er meint.
25 So he leaned over to Jesus and asked, “Lord, who is it?”
Der neigte sich demgemäß gegen die Brust Jesus und sagte zu ihm: Herr, wer ist es?
26 Jesus replied, “It's the one to whom I will give a piece of bread after I have dipped it.”
Da antwortete Jesus: der ist es, dem ich den Bissen eintauchen und geben werde. Da tauchte er den Bissen ein, nimmt ihn, und gibt ihn dem Judas, dem Sohn Simons des Iskarioten.
27 After dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. Once Judas had taken the bread, Satan entered him. “What you're going to do, do it quickly,” Jesus told him.
Und nach dem Bissen, hierauf fuhr der Satan in ihn, da spricht Jesus zu ihm: was du thust, thue bald.
28 No one at the table understood what Jesus meant by this.
Aber keiner von den Tischgenossen verstand, was er ihm damit gesagt.
29 Since Judas was in charge of the money some of them thought that Jesus was telling him to go and buy what was needed for the Passover festival, or to donate something to the poor.
Einige meinten wohl, weil Judas den Beutel hatte, Jesus sage zu ihm: kaufe was wir auf das Fest nötig haben, oder er solle den Armen etwas geben.
30 Judas left immediately after he'd taken the piece of bread, and went out into the night.
Da denn jener den Bissen genommen hatte, gieng er alsbald hinaus. Es war aber Nacht.
31 After he'd left, Jesus said, “Now the Son of man is glorified, and through him God is glorified.
Als er nun hinausgegangen, spricht Jesus: jetzt ist der Sohn des Menschen verherrlicht, und Gott ist verherrlicht durch ihn.
32 If God is glorified through him, then God will glorify the Son himself, and will glorify him immediately.
Wenn Gott verherrlicht ist durch ihn, so wird auch Gott ihn verherrlichen durch sich, ja er wird ihn alsbald verherrlichen.
33 My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. You will look for me, but I'm telling you now just as I told the Jews: you cannot come where I'm going.
Kinder, nur noch eine kleine Weile bin ich bei euch: dann werdet ihr mich suchen, und wie ich den Juden sagte: wo ich hingehe, könnet ihr nicht hinkommen, so sage ich jetzt auch zu euch.
34 I am giving you a new command: Love one another. Love one another in the same way I have loved you.
Ein neues Gebot gebe ich euch, daß ihr einander liebet, so wie ich euch geliebt habe, daß so auch ihr einander liebet.
35 If you love one another you will prove to everyone that you are my disciples.”
Daran wird jedermann erkennen, daß ihr meine Jünger seid, wenn ihr Liebe unter euch habt.
36 Simon Peter asked him, “Where are you going, Lord?” Jesus answered, “You can't follow me now where I'm going. You will follow me later.”
Sagt zu ihm Simon Petrus: Herr, wo gehst du hin? Antwortete ihm Jesus: wo ich hingehe, kannst du mir jetzt nicht folgen; du wirst aber später folgen.
37 “Lord, why can't I follow you now?” Peter asked. “I'll lay down my life for you.”
Sagt zu ihm Petrus: Herr, warum kann ich dir jetzt nicht folgen? mein Leben will ich für dich lassen.
38 “Are you really ready to die for me? I tell you the truth: before the cock crows you will deny me three times,” Jesus replied.
Antwortet Jesus: dein Leben willst du für mich lassen? Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: der Hahn wird nicht krähen, ehe du mich dreimal verleugnet hast.
