Acts 25

1 Three days after Festus had arrived in the province he left Caesarea to go to Jerusalem.

Tedy Festus vládařství ujav, po třech dnech přijel z Cesaree do Jeruzaléma.

2 The chief priests and Jewish leaders came to him and brought their charges against Paul.

I postavili se nejvyšší kněz a přednější z Židů proti Pavlovi, a prosili ho,

3 They begged Festus as a favor to send Paul to Jerusalem, plotting to ambush and kill him on the way.

Žádajíce té milosti proti němu, aby jej kázal přivesti do Jeruzaléma, zálohy učinivše jemu, aby ho zabili na cestě.

4 But Festus replied that Paul was in custody at Caesarea and that he himself would be there shortly.

Ale Festus odpověděl, že má Pavel ostříhán býti v Cesaree, a on sám že tudíž přijede.

5 “Your leaders can come with me, and make their accusation against this man, if he has done anything wrong,” he told them.

Protož (řekl, ) kteříž z vás mohou, nechť tam také se vypraví spolu se mnou, a jest-li jaká vina na tom muži, nechať naň žalují.

6 After staying there with them for no more than eight or ten days, Festus returned to Caesarea. The following day he took his seat as judge, and ordered that Paul be brought before him.

A pobyv mezi nimi nic více než deset dní, jel do Cesaree. A druhého dne posadiv se na soudné stolici, kázal Pavla přivesti.

7 When he came in the Jews that had come from Jerusalem surrounded him and brought many serious charges against him that they couldn't prove.

Kterýž když byl přiveden, obstoupili ti, kteříž byli přišli z Jeruzaléma, Židé, mnohé a těžké žaloby proti Pavlovi přednášejíce, kterýchž nemohli dovesti,

8 Paul defended himself, telling them, “I have not sinned at all against the Jewish law, the Temple, or Caesar.”

Když on při všem mírnou zprávu dával, že ani proti zákonu Židovskému, ani proti chrámu, ani proti císaři nic neprovinil.

9 But Festus, who was looking to gain favor with the Jews, asked Paul, “Are you willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried before me there about these matters?”

Ale Festus, chtěje se Židům zalíbiti, odpověděv, řekl Pavlovi: Chceš-li jíti do Jeruzaléma, a tam o to souzen býti přede mnou?

10 “I'm standing before Caesar's court to be tried, right where I should be,” Paul replied. “I have not done any wrong to the Jews, as you very well know.

I řekl Pavel: Před stolicí císařovou chci státi a tam souzen býti. Židům jsem nic neublížil, jakož i ty dobře to víš.

11 If I've committed a crime and have done something that deserves death, I do not ask to be pardoned from a death sentence. But if there's no substance to these accusations they're making against me, then nobody has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!”

Nebo jestližeť jsem křiv, aneb něco smrti hodného jsem spáchal, neodpírámť umříti; a pakliť nic toho není, z čehož mne oni viní, žádnýť mne jim nemůže dáti. K císaři se odvolávám.

12 Festus then conferred with the council, and replied, “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you shall go!”

Tehdy Festus promluviv s radou, odpověděl: K císařis se odvolal? K císaři půjdeš.

13 Several days later, King Agrippa and his sister Bernice arrived in Caesarea and came to pay their respects to Festus.

A po několika dnech král Agrippa a Bernice přijeli do Cesaree, aby pozdravili Festa.

14 They were staying some time so Festus presented Paul's case to the king, explaining, “There's a man that Felix left as a prisoner here.

A když tu za mnoho dní byli, oznámil Festus králi o Pavlově při, řka: Muž nějaký zanechán jest od Felixa v vězení,

15 When I was in Jerusalem, the Jewish chief priests and leaders came and made accusations against him and asked me to sentence him.

O kterémž, když jsem byl v Jeruzalémě, oznámili přední kněží a starší Židovští, žádajíce na něj ortele.

16 I replied that it is not according to Roman law to convict anyone without having them face their accusers and giving them the opportunity to defend themselves against the charges.

Kterýmž jsem odpověděl, že není obyčej Římanům vydati člověka na smrt, prvé než by ten, na kohož se žaloba děje, přítomné měl žalobníky, a volnost k odpovídání na to, z čehož by byl obviňován.

17 So when his accusers arrived here, I wasted no time and convened the court the very next day. I ordered the man to be brought in.

A protož když se byli sem sešli, hned beze všeho meškání, druhý den posadiv se na soudné stolici, rozkázal jsem přivesti toho muže.

18 However, when the accusers got up they didn't bring charges of criminal acts as I expected.

Jehož žalobníci tu stojíce, z ničeho takového nevinili ho, o čemž jsem já se domníval.

19 Instead they brought up controversies over religious questions, and over a man called Jesus who was dead but whom Paul insisted was alive.

Ale o nějaké otázky při tom svém náboženství měli s ním nesnáz, a o jakémsi Ježíšovi mrtvém, o kterémž jistil Pavel, že jest živ.

20 Since I was undecided as to how to proceed in investigating such matters, I asked him if he was willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried there.

Já pak maje tu při v pochybnosti, řekl jsem, chtěl-li by jíti do Jeruzaléma, a tam o ty věci souzen býti.

21 However, Paul appealed for his case to be heard by the emperor, so I ordered him detained until I could send him to Caesar.”

A když se on odvolal, aby byl chován k soudu Augustovu, kázal jsem ho hlídati, až bych jej poslal k císaři.

22 “I would like to hear the man myself,” Agrippa told Festus. “I'll arrange for you to hear him tomorrow,” Festus replied.

Tedy Agrippa řekl Festovi: Chtělť bych i já rád člověka toho slyšeti. A on řekl: Zítra ho uslyšíš.

23 The next day Agrippa arrived with Bernice in great ceremonial splendor and entered the auditorium with the commanders and leading citizens. Then Festus ordered Paul to be brought in.

Nazejtří pak, když přišel Agrippa a Bernice s velikou slávou, a vešli na síň s hejtmany a s lidmi nejznamenitějšími města toho, k rozkázaní Festovu přiveden jest Pavel.

24 “King Agrippa, and everyone who is present here with us,” Festus began, “you see before you this man whom all the Jewish people, both here and in Jerusalem, have complained to me about, shouting that he shouldn't be allowed to live.

I řekl Festus: Králi Agrippo a všickni muži, kteříž jste tuto s námi, vidíte tohoto, za nějž všecko množství Židů prosili mne, i v Jeruzalémě i zde, křičíce, že takový nemá více živ býti.

25 However, I discovered he has not committed any crime that deserves death, and since he has appealed to the emperor I decided to send him there.

Já pak shledav to, že nic hodného smrti neučinil, však když se sám k Augustovi odvolal, umínil jsem jej poslati.

26 But I don't have anything specific to write about him to His Imperial Majesty. That's why I have brought him before you so I can have something definite to write.

O němž, co bych jistého napsal pánu, nevím. Protož jsem jej teď přivedl před vás, a zvláště před tebe, králi Agrippo, abych vyptaje se, věděl co psáti.

27 It doesn't seem fair to me to send on a prisoner without explaining the charges made against him.”

Nebo zdá mi se to neslušné býti poslati vězně, a pře jeho neoznámiti.
