1 Thessalonians 5
1 Brothers and sisters, we don't need to write anything to you about prophetic times and dates.
Über Zeit und Zeitumstände, Brüder, ist nicht Not, euch zu schreiben;
2 You yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
Ihr wißt ja selbst genau, daß der Tag des Herrn kommen wird wie ein Dieb in der Nacht.
3 When people talk about peace and security suddenly they will be completely ruined. It will be just like the sudden onset of childbirth, and they certainly won't escape.
Denn wenn sie sagen: Es ist Friede, ist keine Gefahr, so steht plötzlich das Verderben vor der Tür, wie die Wehen vor dem Weib, das gebären soll; und sie können nicht entfliehen.
4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark about this so that you won't be caught by surprise when the Day of Judgment arrives suddenly like a thief.
Ihr aber, Brüder, seid nicht in Finsternis, so daß euch der Tag wie der Dieb überfalle.
5 For you are all children of light and children of the day. We don't belong to the night or to darkness.
Ihr alle seid ja Kinder des Lichts und Kinder des Tags; wir sind nicht von der Nacht, noch von der Finsternis.
6 So then we shouldn't be sleeping like everybody else—we should stay awake and keep ourselves clear-headed.
So laßt uns denn nicht schlafen, wie die anderen, sondern wachen und nüchtern sein.
7 For it's during the night that people sleep; and it's at night that they get drunk.
Denn die da schlafen, schlafen in der Nacht, und die da trunken sind, sind trunken in der Nacht.
8 But since we belong to the day we should keep our heads clear, strapping on the breastplate of trust and love, and putting on as a helmet the hope of salvation.
Wir aber, die wir vom Tage sind, wollen nüchtern sein, mit dem Panzer des Glaubens und der Liebe angetan, und mit dem Helm der Hoffnung zur Seligkeit.
9 For God hasn't placed us in a position to be punished, but has reserved us for salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Denn Gott hat uns nicht gesetzt zum Zorn, sondern zur Erlangung der Seligkeit durch unseren Herrn Jesus Christus, Der für uns gestorben ist.
10 He's the one who died for us so that whether we're alive or dead we shall live together with him.
Auf daß wir, ob wir wachen oder schlafen, zugleich mit Ihm leben sollen.
11 So encourage and strengthen one another, just as you are doing.
Darum ermahnt einander und erbaue einer den anderen, wie ihr denn auch tut.
12 Brothers and sisters, we're asking you to respect those who work with you, who lead you in the Lord and teach you.
Wir bitten euch aber, Brüder, daß ihr sorgt für die, welche an euch arbeiten und euch vorstehen in dem Herrn und euch vermahnen.
13 You should value them highly in love for the work they do. Live in peace with each other.
Und haltet sie hoch in eurer Liebe, um ihres Werkes willen. Haltet Frieden untereinander.
14 We urge you, brothers and sisters, to warn those who are lazy, encourage those who are anxious, help those who are weak, and be patient with everyone.
Wir ermahnen euch aber, liebe Brüder, weiset zurecht die Unordentlichen, tröstet die Kleinmütigen, nehmt euch der Schwachen an, seid langmütig gegen alle.
15 Make sure none of you pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to one another, and to everyone.
Seht darauf, daß keiner Böses mit Bösem vergelte, sondern jagt allezeit dem Guten nach, beides, untereinander und gegen jedermann.
16 Always be full of joy,
Seid allezeit frohen Mutes.
17 never stop praying,
Betet ohne Unterlaß.
18 be thankful in every situation—because this is what God in Christ Jesus wants you to do.
Seid dankbar in allen Dingen, denn das ist der Wille Gottes in Christus Jesus an euch.
19 Don't hold the Spirit back,
Den Geist dämpfet nicht.
20 don't look down on prophecy,
Mißachtet nicht Weissagungen,
21 make sure to check everything. Hold onto whatever is good;
Sondern prüft alles, das Gute behaltet!
22 keep away from every kind of evil.
Meidet allen bösen Schein.
23 May the God of peace himself make you completely holy, and may your whole being—body, mind and spirit—be kept blameless for when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
Er aber, der Gott des Friedens, heilige euch durch und durch, und Geist, Seele und Leib möge an euch völlig unsträflich erhalten werden für die Zukunft unseres Herrn Jesus Christus.
24 The one who calls you is trustworthy, and he will do this.
Treu ist Er, Der euch ruft, und wird es auch vollbringen.
25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us.
Brüder, betet für uns!
26 Greet all the believers there affectionately.
Grüßet alle Brüder mit dem heiligen Kuß.
27 I'm requiring you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the believers.
Ich beschwöre euch bei dem Herrn, daß ihr diesen Brief alle heiligen Brüder lesen lasset.
28 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Die Gnade unseres Herrn Jesu Christi sei mit euch! Amen.
