1 John 4
1 Dear friends, don't trust every spirit, but put the spirits to the test to find out whether they're from God, for there are many false prophets out there in the world.
Queridos amigos, no confien en todos los espíritus, sino pruébenlos para saber si son o no de Dios, porque hay muchos falsos profetas en este mundo.
2 How can you recognize God's Spirit? Every spirit that accepts Jesus Christ came with a human body is from God;
¿Cómo pueden reconocer el Espíritu de Dios? Pues todo espíritu que acepta que Jesús vino en carne humana, es de Dios;
3 while every spirit that doesn't accept Jesus, that spirit isn't from God. In fact it is the spirit of the antichrist which you heard was coming, and which is already in the world.
pero todo espíritu que no acepta a Jesús, ese espíritu no es de Dios. De hecho, es el espíritu del anticristo, del cual oyeron que vendrá, y que ya está en el mundo.
4 But you belong to God, my friends, and you have defeated them, for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Pero ustedes pertenecen a Dios, mis amigos, y los han vencido, porque el que está en ustedes es más grande que el que está en el mundo.
5 They belong to the world, so they speak like people of the world, and the world listens to them.
Ellos pertenecen al mundo, y hablan como personas del mundo, y el mundo los oye.
6 We belong to God and whoever knows God listens to us, while whoever doesn't belong to God doesn't listen to us. This is how we can distinguish the spirit of truth from the spirit of deception.
Sin embargo, nosotros pertenecemos a Dios y todo el que conoce a Dios, nos escucha; pero los que no pertenecen a Dios, no nos escuchan. Así es como podemos distinguir el espíritu de verdad del espíritu de engaño.
7 Dear friends, let's go on loving one another, for love comes from God. All those who love are born of God and know God.
Queridos amigos, sigamos amándonos unos a otros, porque el amor viene de Dios. Todos los que aman son nacidos de Dios y conocen a Dios.
8 Those who don't love don't know God, for God is love.
Los que no aman, no conocen a Dios, porque Dios es amor.
9 How was God's love shown to us? God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we could live through him.
¿Cómo nos fue demostrado el amor de Dios? Dios envió a su único Hijo para que viviéramos por él.
10 This is love! It's not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and he sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins.
¡Eso es amor! No es que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino que él nos amó y envió a su Hijo para ser la reconciliación por nuestros pecados.
11 Friends, if this is the way God loves us, we ought to love one another like this too.
Amigos, si esta es la manera como Dios nos ama, debemos amarnos unos a otros de esta misma manera.
12 No one has ever seen God. However, if we love one another then God lives in us, and his love is fulfilled in us.
Nadie ha visto a Dios. Sin embargo, si nos amamos unos a otros, entonces Dios vive en nosotros, y su amor se cumple en nosotros.
13 How can we know that we live in him, and that he lives in us? He's given us the ability to love by his Spirit.
¿Cómo podemos saber que él vive en nosotros? En que nos ha dado el poder de amar por su Espíritu.
14 For we are witnesses to what we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son as the Savior of the world.
Porque somos testigos de lo que hemos visto y testificamos que el Padre envió al Hijo como Salvador del mundo.
15 God lives in everyone who declares that Jesus is the Son of God, and they live in God.
Dios vive en todos los que declaran que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, y ellos viven en Dios.
16 We have experienced and trusted in the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who live in love, live in God, and God lives in them.
Hemos experimentado y creído en el amor que Dios tiene por nosotros. Dios es amor, y los que viven en amor, viven en Dios, y Dios en ellos.
17 This is how love is made complete in us so that we can be confident on judgment day: by the fact that we live just like him in this world.
Es así como el amor se completa en nosotros, para que podamos estar seguros en el día del juicio: por el hecho de que vivimos como él en este mundo.
18 Where there is love there can be no fear. God loves us completely, and this love drives all our fears away. If we do fear, it's because we fear being punished, and this shows that we have not been fully re-made by the completeness of God's love.
Donde hay amor no puede haber temor. Y Dios nos ama por completo, y este amor echa fuera todos nuestros miedos. Si tememos, es porque tememos ser castigados, y eso muestra que no hemos sido plenamente transformados por la plenitud del amor de Dios.
19 We love because he loved us first.
Nosotros amamos porque él nos amó primero.
20 Anyone who says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, is a liar. Anyone who doesn't love a brother whom they can see, can't love God whom they can't see.
Los que dicen: “Yo amo a Dios”, pero odian a su hermano o hermana en la fe, son mentirosos. Los que no aman a un hermano al que pueden ver, no pueden amar a Dios, a quien no ven.
21 This is the command he gave to us: those who love God love their brothers and sisters too.
Este es el mandamiento que nos dio: los que aman a Dios, amen también a sus hermanos.
