< Luke 1 >

1 Given that many have undertaken to set in order a narrative concerning those things that really did take place among us,
Ebe ọ bụ nʼọtụtụ mmadụ agbalịala otu ha nwere ike i detu nʼusoro ihe niile mezuru nʼetiti anyị.
2 just as those who became eyewitnesses, from the beginning, and ministers of the Word delivered them to us,
Dị ka e nyefere ha nʼaka anyị idebe bụ ndị ahụ sitere na malite jiri anya ha hụ ihe niile, ndị jikwa okwu a eje ozi.
3 it seemed good to me also, most excellent Theophilus, having taken careful note of everything from Above, to write to you with precision and in sequence,
Ekpebikwara m, ebe mụ onwe m nyocharala ihe niile nke ọma site na mmalite, ka m dere gị ihe niile nʼusoro, Tiofilọs, gị onye dị elu a na-asọpụrụ.
4 so that you may know the certainty of the things in which you were instructed.
Nke a ga-eme ka ị mata nke bụ eziokwu banyere ihe ndị ahụ e ziri gị.
5 In the days of Herod, the king of Judea, there was a certain priest named Zacharias, of the priestly division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron and her name was Elizabeth.
Nʼoge Herọd bụ eze Judịa, ọ dị otu onyeisi nchụaja aha ya bụ Zekaraya, onye si nʼotu ndị nchụaja nke Abija. Elizabet bụ nwunye ya, site nʼagbụrụ Erọn.
6 They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.
Ha abụọ bụ ndị ezi omume nʼihu Chineke. Ha debere iwu na ụkpụrụ niile Onyenwe anyị nyere na-enweghị ntụpọ ọbụla.
7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren; and they both were well advanced in years.
Mana ha amụtaghị nwa, nʼihi na Elizabet bụ nwanyị agaa, ha abụọ emeela nnọọ agadi.
8 Now it happened, as he was officiating as priest before God in the order of his division,
O ruru mgbe ọ bụ ndị otu Zekaraya ga-eje ozi, ọ nọ dịka onye nchụaja na-eje ozi nʼihu Chineke.
9 according to the custom of the priesthood, that his lot was to burn incense, upon entering the sanctuary of the Lord;
A họpụtara ya site nʼife nza dị ka omenaala ndị nchụaja si dị ka ọ bụrụ ya ga-abanye nʼime ime ụlọnsọ Onyenwe anyị ịchụ aja nsure ọkụ nke e ji ụda na-esi isi ụtọ achụ.
10 and the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense.
Mgbe oge ịchụ aja ụda na-esi isi ụtọ ruru, igwe ndị mmadụ bịara nọ nʼezi na-ekpe ekpere.
11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense;
Mgbe ahụ, mmụọ ozi Onyenwe anyị, onye guzo nʼaka nri nke ebe ịchụ aja nke ihe na-esi isi ụtọ mere ka ọ hụ ya anya.
12 and upon seeing him Zacharias was shaken, and a fear fell upon him.
Mgbe Zekaraya hụrụ ya, obi fepụrụ ya, ọ tụkwara oke egwu.
13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, because your prayer was heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
Ma mmụọ ozi ahụ gwara ya sị, “Zekaraya atụla egwu, Chineke anụla ekpere gị. Elizabet nwunye gị ga-atụrụ ime mụtara gị nwa nwoke. Ị ga-akpọkwa aha ya Jọn.
14 And you will have joy and exultation, and many will rejoice over his birth.
Ọ ga-abụrụ gị ihe oke ọṅụ na obi ụtọ, ọtụtụ mmadụ ga-aṅụrịkwa ọṅụ nʼihi ọmụmụ ya.
15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; he must not drink either wine or strong drink; indeed, he will be filled with Holy Spirit already from his mother's womb.
Nʼihi na ọ ga-abụ onye dị ukwuu nʼanya Onyenwe anyị. Ọ gaghị aṅụkwa mmanya ọbụla, maọbụ ihe ọṅụṅụ ọbụla na-egbu egbu nʼihi na site nʼafọ nne ya ọ ga-abụ onye emejupụtara na Mmụọ Nsọ.
16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God;
Ọ ga-akpọghachite ọtụtụ ụmụ Izrel nye Onyenwe ha bụ Chineke ha.
17 in fact he himself will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of fathers to children’ and the disobedient to the mindset of the righteous, to prepare a people made ready for the Lord.”
Ma ọ ga-aga nʼihu Onyenwe anyị nʼike mmụọ na ike nke Ịlaịja, tụgharịa obi ndị bụ nna nʼebe ụmụ ha nọ. Meekwa ka ndị isiike tụgharịa obi, lekwasị anya nʼamamihe nke ndị ezi omume, na ijikere ụmụ mmadụ nʼihi Onyenwe anyị.”
18 But Zacharias said to the angel: “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
Zekaraya sịrị mmụọ ozi ahụ, “Olee otu m ga-esi mata na nke a ga-adị otu a? Abụrụla m agadi. Nwunye m akakwaala nka.”
19 So in answer the angel said to him: “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God; I was sent to speak to you and bring you this good news.
Mmụọ ozi zara ya sị, “Abụ m Gebrel. Ana m eguzo nʼihu Chineke. Ezitere m ka m bịa gwa gị okwu ma wetara gị oziọma a.
20 Now look, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day in which these things happen, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”
Ma lee, ị ga-ada ogbi, ị gaghị ekwukwa okwu ọbụla, tutu ruo mgbe ihe ndị a ga-emezu nʼihi na i kwenyeghị nʼokwu m, nke ga-emezu mgbe oge ya ruru.”
21 Now the people were waiting for Zacharias and wondering at his delay in the sanctuary.
Mgbe ihe ndị a niile na-eme, mmadụ ndị ahụ nọkwa na-eche Zekaraya ka ọ pụta. O juru ha anya na ọ nọọla ọdụ nʼime ime ụlọnsọ ukwu ahụ.
22 But when he came out he was unable to speak to them, and they understood that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary—he kept gesturing to them while remaining mute.
Mgbe o mesịrị pụta, o nwekwaghị ike ikwuru ha okwu. Ha ghọtara na ọ hụrụ ọhụ nʼime ụlọnsọ ahụ nʼihi na ọ bụ aka ka o ji gwa ha okwu.
23 And so, when the days of his service were fulfilled, he took off for home.
Mgbe oge ịrụ ọrụ ya gwụsịrị, ọ laghachiri nʼụlọ ya.
24 Well after those days his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and stayed in seclusion five months. She kept saying,
Mgbe ụbọchị ndị ahụ gasịrị, Elizabet bụ nwunye ya tụụrụ ime. O zoro onwe ya nʼime ụlọ ọnwa ise.
25 “So that's what the Lord has done for me in the days when He concerned Himself to take away my reproach among the people!”
Ọ sịrị, “Onyenwe anyị emeerela m nke a. O gosila m ihuọma ya nʼụbọchị ndị a, ma wepụkwara m ihere nʼetiti ndị nke m.”
26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town of Galilee named Natsareth,
Ma nʼọnwa isii ya, Chineke zigara mmụọ ozi ya, bụ Gebrel, ka ọ gaa nʼobodo Nazaret nke dị nʼime Galili.
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; the virgin's name was Mary.
Ka o jekwuru otu nwaagbọghọ na-amaghị nwoke bụ onye otu nwoke aha ya bụ Josef, onye sitere nʼagbụrụ Devid, kwere nkwa ịlụ. Aha nwaagbọghọ a bụ Meri.
28 So upon entering where she was the angel said, “Rejoice, recipient of grace, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
O jekwuru ya sị ya, “Ekele! Gị onye ihuọma dịkwasịrị. Onyenwe anyị nọnyekwara gị.”
29 But upon seeing him she was perplexed at his word and was trying to figure out what sort of greeting it might be.
Ma obi lọrọ ya mmiri nke ukwuu nʼihi okwu ya. O bidokwara ịtụgharị nʼuche ya ihe ekele a pụtara.
30 The angel said to her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, because you have found favor with God.
Ma mmụọ ozi ahụ sịrị ya, “Atụla egwu Meri, nʼihi na i chọtala ihuọma nʼebe Chineke nọ.
31 Now then, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS.
Ma lee ị ga-atụrụ ime, mụọ nwa nwoke. Ị ga-akpọkwa aha ya Jisọs.
32 He will be great, and will be called ‘Son of the Most High’; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David,
Ọ ga-abụ nnukwu mmadụ onye a ga-akpọ Ọkpara Onye kachasị ihe niile elu. Onyenwe anyị Chineke ga-enye ya ocheeze nna ya Devid.
33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob into the ages; indeed, of His kingdom there will be no end!” (aiōn g165)
Ọ ga-achị ụlọ Jekọb ruo ebighị ebi, alaeze ya agaghị enwekwa ọgwụgwụ.” (aiōn g165)
34 So Mary said to the angel, “How shall this be, since I do not know a man?”
Meri sịrị mmụọ ozi ahụ, “Olee otu nke a ga-esi mee ebe m bụ nwaagbọghọ na-amaghị nwoke?”
35 In answer the angel said to her: “Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will hover over you; precisely for this reason the holy One who is to be born will be called ‘Son of God’!
Mmụọ ozi ahụ sịrị ya, “Mmụọ Nsọ ga-abịakwasị gị, ike nke Onye kachasị ihe niile elu ga-ekpuchikwa gị. Ya mere onye nsọ ahụ a ga-amụ, a ga-akpọ ya Ọkpara Chineke.
36 Furthermore, your relative Elizabeth, she has actually conceived a son in her old age and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren;
Lekwa Elizabet onye ikwu gị atụrụla ime nwa nwoke nʼagadi ya. Nke a bụ ọnwa isii ya, bụ onye ahụ ha na-akpọ nwanyị aga.
37 because any word spoken by God will be possible.”
Nʼihi na ọ dịghị okwu sitere na Chineke nke na-agaghị ere.”
38 So Mary said: “Yes, I am the Lord's slave! Let it happen to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Meri zaghachiri sị, “Abụ m ohu Onyenwe anyị, ka ọ dịrị m dị ka i kwuru.” Mgbe ahụ mmụọ ozi ahụ hapụrụ ya laa.
39 Then Mary quickly got ready and went into the hill country in those days, to a town of Judah,
Nʼoge ahụ, Meri biliri gaa ọsịịsọ nʼotu obodo dị nʼugwu Juda.
40 and entered the house of Zacharias and saluted Elizabeth.
Nʼebe ahụ, ọ banyere nʼụlọ Zekaraya, kelee Elizabet.
41 Well it happened that as Elizabeth heard Mary's salutation the babe bounced up and down in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with Holy Spirit.
Mgbe Elizabet nụrụ ekele Meri, nwa nọ ya nʼafọ megharịrị ahụ. E mere ka Elizabet jupụta na Mmụọ nsọ.
42 And she cried out with a great voice and said: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the Fruit of your womb!
O tiri mkpu nʼoke olu sị, “Onye a gọziri agọzi ka ị bụ nʼetiti ụmụ nwanyị niile. Onye a gọziri agọzi ka nwa ahụ ị bu nʼafọ bụkwa.
43 Why am I so favored that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Onye kwanụ ka m bụ na ihuọma dị otu a kpọrọ m na nne Onyenwe m ga-abịa ileta m?
44 Yes indeed, because as the sound of your salutation came into my ears the babe bounced up and down in my womb for joy.
Ngwangwa m nụrụ olu ekele gị, nwa nọ m nʼafọ wuliri elu nʼọṅụ.
45 Blessed is she who believed, because there will be a fulfillment of the things that have been spoken to her from the Lord.”
Ngọzị ga-adịrị onye ahụ kwere na Onyenwe anyị ga-emezu ihe o kweere ya na nkwa ime.”
46 So Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord,
Ma Meri sịrị, “Mkpụrụobi m na-ebuli Onyenwe anyị elu
47 and my spirit has exulted over God my Savior,
mmụọ m na-aṅụrị ọṅụ nʼime Chineke bụ Onye nzọpụta m,
48 in that He paid attention to the humble station of His slave (f). Yes indeed, because from now on all generations will declare me to be highly favored,
nʼihi na o ledatala anya, lekwasị m, bụ odibo ya dị ala. Site ugbu a gaa nʼihu, ọgbọ niile ga-akpọ m onye a gọziri agọzi.
49 in that the Mighty One did sublime things for me, and Holy is His name.
Nʼihi na Onye dị ike emeelara m ihe dị ukwuu. Aha ya dịkwa nsọ.
50 His mercy is for generations of generations to those fearing Him.
Ebere ya na-erute ndị niile na-atụ egwu ya site nʼọgbọ ruo nʼọgbọ.
51 He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has dispersed the arrogant in the reasoning of their hearts.
O gosila ike aka ya; ọ chụsasịala ndị dị mpako nʼime echiche obi ha.
52 He has dethroned rulers and exalted the lowly.
O sitela nʼocheeze ndị eze dị ike kwatuo ha, buliekwa ndị dị umeala nʼobi elu.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty.
O jirila ihe dị mma nyejuo ndị agụụ na-agụ afọ ma ndị ọgaranya ka o zipụrụ nʼaka efu.
54 He has taken the part of His servant Israel, in remembrance of mercy,
O nyerela odibo ya bụ Izrel aka, ọ na-echetakwa imere ya ebere.
55 just as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed while there is an age.” (aiōn g165)
Dị ka ọ gwara nna nna anyị ha, nye Ebraham na ụmụ ụmụ ya ruo mgbe ebighị ebi.” (aiōn g165)
56 So Mary stayed with her about three months, and returned to her house.
Meri nọnyeere ya ihe dịka ọnwa atọ ma mesie laghachi nʼụlọ ya.
57 Now the time for Elizabeth to give birth was completed and she bore a son.
Mgbe oge zuru ka Elizabet mụọ nwa, ọ mụrụ nwa nwoke.
58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had used His great mercy with her, and they rejoiced with her.
Ndị agbataobi ya na ndị ikwu ya, ndị nụrụ otu Chineke si gosi ya ebere dị ukwuu, bịara soro ya ṅụrịa ọṅụ.
59 So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child, and they started calling him by the name of his father, Zacharias.
Nʼabalị nke asatọ ha bịara ibi nwata ahụ ugwu na ịgụ ya aha. Ha na-achọ ịgụ ya Zekaraya bụ aha nna ya,
60 His mother reacted and said, “Absolutely not; he shall be called John!”
ma Nne ya sịrị, “Mba, a ga-agụ ya Jọn.”
61 So they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”
Ha sịrị ya, “Ọ dịghị onye ọbụla nʼetiti ndị ikwu gị na-aza aha ahụ.”
62 So they started motioning to his father, as to what he would have him called.
Ya mere, ha jiri ife aka jụọ nna ya, ihe ọ chọrọ ka akpọ nwata ahụ.
63 Asking for a writing tablet he wrote this: “His name is to be John!” They all marveled.
Ọ rịọrọ ka e nye ya mbadamba ihe e ji ede ihe, o deere “Aha ya bụ Jọn.” Nke a jukwara mmadụ niile anya.
64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed and he started to speak, blessing God.
Ngwangwa, ọnụ ya meghere, atọpụkwara ire ya. Ya ebido ikwu okwu ma na-etokwa Chineke.
65 (Well a fear came on all who lived around them; and all these sayings kept being talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.
Ibubo wụrụ ndị agbataobi ha niile nʼahụ, ndị mmadụ kọkwara akụkọ banyere ihe ndị a niile ruo obodo niile dị nʼakụkụ ugwu Judịa.
66 All who heard kept them in their hearts saying, “What then will this child be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.)
Ndị niile nụrụ akụkọ a chere nʼobi ha na-ajụ sị, “Gịnịkwa ka nwa nke a gaje ịbụ?” Nʼihi na aka Onyenwe anyị dịnyeere ya.
67 Now his father Zacharias was filled with Holy Spirit and prophesied saying:
E mere ka Zekaraya bụ nna ya jupụta na Mmụọ Nsọ. O buru amụma sị,
68 “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has visited and provided redemption for His people;
“Ngọzị dịrị Onyenwe anyị bụ Chineke nke Izrel, nʼihi na ọ bịala leta ma gbapụtakwa ndị nke ya.
69 and has raised up a horn of deliverance for us in the house of His servant David
O welielara anyị Onye nzọpụta site nʼụlọ odibo ya bụ Devid.
70 —just as He spoke through the mouth of His holy prophets from antiquity— (aiōn g165)
(Dị ka o kwuru na mgbe ochie, site nʼọnụ ndị amụma ya dị nsọ). (aiōn g165)
71 deliverance from our enemies and out of the hand of all who hate us;
Na ọ ga-azọpụta anyị site nʼaka ndị iro anyị na sitekwa nʼaka ndị niile kpọrọ anyị asị.
72 to use mercy with our fathers, even to remember His Holy covenant,
O meere ndị nna nna anyị ha ebere site nʼicheta ọgbụgba ndụ ya dị nsọ.
73 the oath that He swore to our father Abraham;
Iyi nke ọ ṅụụrụ nna anyị bụ Ebraham, kwekwa nkwa:
74 to grant to us (having been rescued from the hand of our enemies) to serve Him without fear,
Na ọ ga-anapụta anyị site nʼaka ndị iro anyị, nyekwa anyị ike ife ya ofufe na-atụghị egwu.
75 in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
Nʼịdị nsọ na ezi omume nʼihu ya ụbọchị niile nke ndụ anyị.
76 And you, child, will be called Prophet of the Most High, because you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
“Ma gị nwa m, a ga-akpọ gị onye amụma nke Onye kachasị ihe niile elu; nʼihi na ị ga-aga nʼihu Onyenwe anyị kwadoro ya ụzọ.
77 to give a knowledge of salvation to His people by the forgiveness of their sins,
Ime ka ndị nke ya nwee amamihe nke nzọpụta site na ịgbaghara mmehie ha.
78 through the merciful compassions of our God, with which the divine Dawn has contemplated us,
Nʼihi oke obi ebere Chineke anyị, nke ọwụwa anyanwụ ga-ewetara anyị site nʼigwe.
79 to give light to those who are sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Ka ọ chakwasị ndị bi nʼọchịchịrị na nʼonyinyo nke ọnwụ, na iduzi ụkwụ anyị nʼụzọ nke udo.”
80 So the child kept growing and being strengthened in spirit, and he stayed in uninhabited areas until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
Nwata ahụ toro, bụrụ onye dị ike nʼime mmụọ. O biri nʼime ọzara tutu ruo mgbe oge zuru igosi ụmụ Izrel onwe ya.
