Romans 8
1 There is now therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh.
Il n'y a donc maintenant aucune condamnation pour ceux qui sont en Jésus-Christ, [qui ne marchent pas selon la chair].
2 For the law of the spirit of life, in Christ Jesus, hath delivered me from the law of sin and of death.
En effet, la loi de l'Esprit de la vie m'a affranchi en Jésus-Christ de la loi du péché et de la mort.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh; God sending his own Son, in the likeness of sinful flesh and of sin, hath condemned sin in the flesh;
Car, ce qui était impossible à la Loi parce qu'elle était sans force à cause de la chair, Dieu l'a fait: en envoyant, pour le péché, son propre Fils dans une chair semblable à celle du péché, et il a condamné le péché dans la chair,
4 That the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the spirit.
afin que la justice de la loi fût accomplie en nous, qui marchons, non selon la chair, mais selon l'Esprit.
5 For they that are according to the flesh, mind the things that are of the flesh; but they that are according to the spirit, mind the things that are of the spirit.
Ceux, en effet, qui vivent selon la chair, s'affectionnent aux choses de la chair; mais ceux qui vivent selon l'Esprit s'affectionnent aux choses de l'Esprit.
6 For the wisdom of the flesh is death; but the wisdom of the spirit is life and peace.
Et les affections de la chair, c'est la mort, tandis que les affections de l'Esprit, c'est la vie et la paix:
7 Because the wisdom of the flesh is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither can it be.
parce que les affections de la chair sont inimitié contre Dieu, car elles ne se soumettent pas à la loi divine, et elles ne le peuvent même pas.
8 And they who are in the flesh, cannot please God.
Or ceux qui vivent dans la chair ne sauraient plaire à Dieu.
9 But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Pour vous, vous ne vivez point dans la chair, mais dans l'Esprit, si du moins l'Esprit de Dieu habite en vous. Si quelqu'un n'a pas l'Esprit du Christ, il ne lui appartient pas.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body indeed is dead, because of sin; but the spirit liveth, because of justification.
Mais si le Christ est en vous, le corps, il est vrai, est mort à cause du péché, mais l'esprit est vie à cause de la justice.
11 And if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead, dwell in you; he that raised up Jesus Christ from the dead, shall quicken also your mortal bodies, because of his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Et si l'Esprit de celui qui a ressuscité Jésus d'entre les morts habite en vous, celui qui a ressuscité le Christ d'entre les morts rendra aussi la vie à vos corps mortels, à cause de son Esprit qui habite en vous.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
Ainsi donc, mes frères, nous ne sommes point redevables à la chair pour vivre selon la chair.
13 For if you live according to the flesh, you shall die: but if by the Spirit you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live.
Car si vous vivez, selon la chair, vous mourrez; mais si, par l'Esprit, vous faites mourir les œuvres du corps, vous vivrez;
14 For whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
car tous ceux qui sont conduits par l'Esprit de Dieu sont fils de Dieu.
15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again in fear; but you have received the spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry: Abba (Father).
En effet, vous n'avez point reçu un Esprit de servitude, pour être encore dans la crainte; mais vous avez reçu un Esprit d'adoption, en qui nous crions: Abba! Père!
16 For the Spirit himself giveth testimony to our spirit, that we are the sons of God.
Cet Esprit lui-même rend témoignage à notre esprit que nous sommes enfants de Dieu.
17 And if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.
Or, si nous sommes enfants, nous sommes aussi héritiers, héritiers de Dieu et cohéritiers du Christ, si toutefois nous souffrons avec lui, pour être glorifiés avec lui.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come, that shall be revealed in us.
Car j'estime que les souffrances du temps présent sont sans proportion avec la gloire à venir qui sera manifestée en nous.
19 For the expectation of the creature waiteth for the revelation of the sons of God.
Aussi la création attend-elle avec un ardent désir la manifestation des enfants de Dieu.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him that made it subject, in hope:
La création, en effet, a été assujettie à la vanité, — non de son gré, mais par la volonté de celui qui l'y a soumise, — avec l'espérance
21 Because the creature also itself shall be delivered from the servitude of corruption, into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
qu'elle aussi sera affranchie de la servitude de la corruption, pour avoir part à la liberté glorieuse des enfants de Dieu.
22 For we know that every creature groaneth and travaileth in pain, even till now.
Car nous savons que, jusqu'à ce jour, la création tout entière gémit et souffre les douleurs de l'enfantement.
23 And not only it, but ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption of the sons of God, the redemption of our body.
Et ce n'est pas elle seulement; nous aussi, qui avons les prémices de l'Esprit, nous gémissons en nous-mêmes, attendant l'adoption [des enfants de Dieu], la rédemption de notre corps.
24 For we are saved by hope. But hope that is seen, is not hope. For what a man seeth, why doth he hope for?
Car c'est en espérance que nous sommes sauvés. Or, voir ce qu'on espère, ce n'est plus espérer: car ce qu'on voit pourquoi l'espérer encore?
25 But if we hope for that which we see not, we wait for it with patience.
Mais si nous espérons ce que nous ne voyons pas, nous l'attendons avec patience.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity. For we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit himself asketh for us with unspeakable groanings.
De même aussi l'Esprit vient en aide à notre faiblesse, car nous ne savons pas ce que nous devons, selon nos besoins, demander dans nos prières. Mais l'Esprit lui-même prie pour nous par des gémissements ineffables;
27 And he that searcheth the hearts, knoweth what the Spirit desireth; because he asketh for the saints according to God.
et celui qui sonde les cœurs connaît quels sont les désirs de l'Esprit; il sait qu'il prie selon Dieu pour des saints.
28 And we know that to them that love God, all things work together unto good, to such as, according to his purpose, are called to be saints.
Nous savons d'ailleurs que toutes choses concourent au bien de ceux qui aiment Dieu, de ceux qui sont appelés selon son éternel dessein.
29 For whom he foreknew, he also predestinated to be made conformable to the image of his Son; that he might be the firstborn amongst many brethren.
Car ceux qu'il a connus d'avance, il les a aussi prédestinés à être conformes à l'image de son Fils, afin que son Fils soit le premier-né d'un grand nombre de frères.
30 And whom he predestinated, them he also called. And whom he called, them he also justified. And whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Et ceux qu'il a prédestinés, il les a aussi appelés; et ceux qu'il a appelés, il les a aussi justifiés; et ceux qu'il a justifiés il les a glorifiés.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who is against us?
Que dirons-nous donc après cela? Si Dieu est pour nous, qui sera contre nous?
32 He that spared not even his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how hath he not also, with him, given us all things?
Lui qui n'a pas épargné son propre Fils, mais qui l'a livré à la mort pour nous tous, comment avec lui ne nous donnera-t-il pas toutes choses?
33 Who shall accuse against the elect of God? God that justifieth.
Qui accusera des élus de Dieu? C'est Dieu qui les justifie!
34 Who is he that shall condemn? Christ Jesus that died, yea that is risen also again; who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Qui les condamnera? Le Christ est mort, bien plus il est ressuscité, il est à la droite de Dieu, il intercède pour nous!
35 Who then shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation? or distress? or famine? or nakedness? or danger? or persecution? or the sword?
Qui nous séparera de l'amour du Christ? Sera-ce la tribulation, ou l'angoisse, ou la persécution, ou la faim, ou la nudité, ou le péril, ou l'épée?
36 (As it is written: For thy sake we are put to death all the day long. We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.)
Selon qu'il est écrit: " A cause de toi, tout le jour nous sommes livrés à la mort, et on nous regarde comme des brebis destinées à la boucherie. "
37 But in all these things we overcome, because of him that hath loved us.
Mais dans toutes ces épreuves nous sommes plus que vainqueurs, par celui qui nous a aimés.
38 For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might,
Car j'ai l'assurance que ni la mort, ni la vie, ni les anges, ni les principautés, ni les choses présentes, ni les choses à venir, ni les puissances,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
ni la hauteur, ni la profondeur, ni aucune autre créature ne pourra nous séparer de l'amour de Dieu dans le Christ Jésus Notre-Seigneur.
