Mark 8
1 In those days again, when there was a great multitude, and had nothing to eat; calling his disciples together, he saith to them:
En ces jours-là une foule nombreuse se trouvant de nouveau réunie, et n'ayant rien à manger, il appela à lui ses disciples et leur dit:
2 I have compassion on the multitude, for behold they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat.
J'ai compassion de cette foule, car voilà déjà trois jours qu'ils persistent, et ils n'ont rien à manger;
3 And if I shall send them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way; for some of them came from afar off.
et si je les renvoie à jeun dans leurs demeures, ils défailleront en chemin; et quelques-uns d'entre eux sont venus de loin. »
4 And his disciples answered him: From whence can any one fill them here with bread in the wilderness?
Et ses disciples lui répliquèrent: « Comment quelqu'un pourra-t-il les rassasier de pains, ici, dans un désert? »
5 And he asked them: How many loaves have ye? Who said: Seven.
Et il leur demandait: « Combien avez-vous de pains? » Et ils disent: « Sept. »
6 And taking the seven loaves, giving thanks, he broke, and gave to his disciples for to set before them; and they set them before the people.
Et il invite la foule à s'asseoir sur la terre, et ayant pris les sept pains, après avoir rendu grâces il les rompit, et il les donnait à ses disciples afin qu'ils les offrissent, et ils les offrirent à la foule;
7 And they had a few little fishes; and he blessed them, and commanded them to be set before them.
et ils avaient quelques petits poissons, et après les avoir bénis, il dit qu'on les offrît aussi.
8 And they did eat and were filled; and they took up that which was left of the fragments, seven baskets.
Et ils mangèrent et ils furent rassasiés, et on emporta les restes des morceaux dans sept paniers.
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand; and he sent them away.
Or ils étaient environ quatre mille; et il les congédia.
10 And immediately going up into a ship with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
Et aussitôt étant monté lui-même dans la barque avec ses disciples il vint dans le territoire de Dalmanountha.
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, asking him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
Et les pharisiens sortirent, et se mirent à discuter avec lui, réclamant de lui un signe qui vînt du ciel, afin de le mettre à l'épreuve.
12 And sighing deeply in spirit, he saith: Why doth this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, a sign shall not be given to this generation.
Et ayant profondément gémi en son esprit, il dit: « Pourquoi cette génération réclame-t-elle un signe? En vérité je déclare qu'aucun signe ne sera donné à cette génération. »
13 And leaving them, he went up again into the ship, and passed to the other side of the water.
Et les ayant quittés, il se rembarqua et passa sur l'autre rive.
14 And they forgot to take bread; and they had but one loaf with them in the ship.
Et ils oublièrent de prendre des pains, et ils n'avaient qu'un seul pain avec eux dans la barque.
15 And he charged them, saying: Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
Et il les exhortait fortement en disant: « Ayez soin d'être en garde contre le levain des pharisiens et contre le levain d'Hérode. »
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying: Because we have no bread.
Et ils réfléchissaient entre eux sur ce qu'ils n'avaient pas de pains.
17 Which Jesus knowing, saith to them: Why do you reason, because you have no bread? do you not yet know nor understand? have you still your heart blinded?
Et s'en étant aperçu, il leur dit: « Pourquoi réfléchissez-vous sur ce que vous n'avez pas de pains? Ne comprenez-vous pas encore, et êtes-vous sans intelligence? Avez-vous le cœur endurci?
18 Having eyes, see you not? and having ears, hear you not? neither do you remember.
Ayant des yeux ne voyez-vous pas? Et ayant des oreilles n'entendez-vous pas? Et ne vous souvenez-vous pas?
19 When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took you up? They say to him, Twelve.
Quand je rompis les cinq pains pour les cinq mille, combien de corbeilles pleines de morceaux emportâtes-vous? » Ils lui disent: « Douze. »
20 When also the seven loaves among four thousand, how many baskets of fragments took you up? And they say to him, Seven.
« Quand les sept pour les quatre mille, combien de paniers remplis de morceaux emportâtes-vous? » Et ils lui disent: « Sept. »
21 And he said to them: How do you not yet understand?
Et il leur disait: « Comment ne comprenez-vous pas? »
22 And they came to Bethsaida; and they bring to him a blind man, and they besought him that he would touch him.
Et ils arrivent à Bethsaïda. Et on lui amène un aveugle, et on le sollicitait afin qu'il le touchât.
23 And taking the blind man by the hand, he led him out of the town; and spitting upon his eyes, laying his hands on him, he asked him if he saw any thing.
Et ayant pris la main de l'aveugle, il l'emmena hors du village, et ayant craché sur ses yeux, il lui demandait, après lui avoir imposé les mains, s'il voyait quelque chose.
24 And looking up, he said: I see men as it were trees, walking.
Et ayant regardé, il disait: « Je vois les hommes; car je vois comme des arbres qui marchent. »
25 After that again he laid his hands upon his eyes, and he began to see, and was restored, so that he saw all things clearly.
Ensuite il plaça derechef les mains sur ses yeux, et il vit clair, et il fut guéri et il apercevait nettement toutes choses.
26 And he sent him into his house, saying: Go into thy house, and if thou enter into the town, tell nobody.
Et il le renvoya chez lui en disant: « Ne rentre pas même dans le village. »
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi. And in the way, he asked his disciples, saying to them: Whom do men say that I am?
Et Jésus sortit pour se rendre, ainsi que ses disciples, dans les villages de Césarée de Philippe, et chemin faisant il interrogeait ses disciples, en leur disant: « Qui disent les gens que je suis? »
28 Who answered him, saying: John the Baptist; but some Elias, and others as one of the prophets.
Et eux lui dirent: « Jean le baptiste, et d'autres, Elie, et d'autres, l'un des prophètes. »
29 Then he saith to them: But whom do you say that I am? Peter answering said to him: Thou art the Christ.
Et il leur demandait: « Mais vous, qui dites-vous que je suis? » Pierre lui réplique: « Tu es le Christ. »
30 And he strictly charged them that they should not tell any man of him.
Et il leur fit des remontrances, afin qu'ils ne parlassent de lui à personne.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the ancients and by the high priests, and the scribes, and be killed: and after three days rise again.
Et il commença à leur enseigner qu'il fallait que le fils de l'homme souffrît beaucoup, et qu'il fût réprouvé par les anciens et les grands prêtres et les scribes, et qu'il fût mis à mort, et qu'au bout de trois jours il ressuscitât.
32 And he spoke the word openly. And Peter taking him, began to rebuke him.
Et il proférait ce discours avec assurance. Et Pierre, l'ayant pris à part, se mit à lui faire des remontrances.
33 Who turning about and seeing his disciples, threatened Peter, saying: Go behind me, Satan, because thou savorest not the things that are of God, but that are of men.
Mais lui, s'étant retourné, et ayant vu ses disciples, adressa des remontrances à Pierre, et dit: « Va-t-en arrière de moi, Satan, car tu ne penses pas aux choses de Dieu, mais à celles des hommes. »
34 And calling the multitude together with his disciples, he said to them: If any man will follow me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Et ayant appelé à lui la foule avec ses disciples, il leur dit: « Si quelqu'un veut venir après moi, qu'il renonce à lui-même et qu'il prenne sa croix, et qu'il me suive;
35 For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel, shall save it.
car celui qui voudra sauver sa vie la perdra, mais celui qui perdra sa vie à cause de moi et de l'Évangile la sauvera;
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?
en effet, que sert-il à un homme d'avoir gagné le monde entier et perdu sa vie?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Car que donnerait l'homme pour racheter sa vie?
38 For he that shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation: the Son of man also will be ashamed of him, when he shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
En effet, celui qui aura eu honte de moi et de mes paroles parmi cette génération adultère et pécheresse, le fils de l'homme aura aussi honte de lui, quand il sera venu entouré de la gloire de son Père avec les saints anges. »
