Luke 16
1 And he said also to his disciples: There was a certain rich man who had a steward: and the same was accused unto him, that he had wasted his goods.
Jésus disait aussi à ses disciples: « Un homme riche avait un économe qu’on accusa devant lui de dissiper ses biens.
2 And he called him, and said to him: How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship: for now thou canst be steward no longer.
Il l’appela et lui dit: Qu’est-ce que j’entends dire de toi? Rends compte de ton administration: car désormais tu ne pourras plus gérer mes biens.
3 And the steward said within himself: What shall I do, because my lord taketh away from me the stewardship? To dig I am not able; to beg I am ashamed.
Alors l’économe dit en lui-même: Que ferai-je, puisque mon maître me retire la gestion de ses biens? Travailler la terre, je n’en ai pas la force, et j’ai honte de mendier.
4 I know what I will do, that when I shall be removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
Je sais ce que je ferai, afin que, lorsqu’on m’aura ôté mon emploi, il y ait des gens qui me reçoivent dans leurs maisons.
5 Therefore calling together every one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first: How much dost thou owe my lord?
Faisant donc venir l’un après l’autre les débiteurs de son maître, il dit au premier: Combien dois-tu à mon maître?
6 But he said: An hundred barrels of oil. And he said to him: Take thy bill and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
Il répondit: Cent barils d’huile. L’économe lui dit: rends ton billet: assieds-toi vite, et écris cinquante.
7 Then he said to another: And how much dost thou owe? Who said: An hundred quarters of wheat. He said to him: Take thy bill, and write eighty.
Ensuite il dit à un autre: Et toi, combien dois-tu? Il répondit: Cent mesures de froment. L’économe lui dit: rends ton billet, et écris quatre-vingts.
8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, forasmuch as he had done wisely: for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light. (aiōn g165)
Et le maître loua l’économe infidèle d’avoir agi habilement; car les enfants de ce siècle sont plus habiles entre eux que les enfants de la lumière. (aiōn g165)
9 And I say to you: Make unto you friends of the mammon of iniquity; that when you shall fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings. (aiōnios g166)
Moi aussi je vous dis: Faites-vous des amis avec les richesses d’iniquité, afin que, lorsque vous quitterez la vie, ils vous reçoivent dans les tabernacles éternels. (aiōnios g166)
10 He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in that which is greater: and he that is unjust in that which is little, is unjust also in that which is greater.
Celui qui est fidèle dans les petites choses, est fidèle aussi dans les grandes, et celui qui est injuste dans les petites choses, est injuste aussi dans les grandes.
11 If then you have not been faithful in the unjust mammon; who will trust you with that which is the true?
Si donc vous n’avez pas été fidèles dans les richesses d’iniquité, qui vous confiera les biens véritables?
12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s; who will give you that which is your own?
Et si vous n’avez pas été fidèles dans un bien étranger, qui vous donnera votre bien propre?
13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres; car ou il haïra l’un et aimera l’autre, ou il s’attachera à l’un et méprisera l’autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et la Richesse. »
14 Now the Pharisees, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
Les Pharisiens qui aimaient l’argent, écoutaient aussi tout cela, et se moquaient de lui.
15 And he said to them: You are they who justify yourselves before men, but God knoweth your hearts; for that which is high to men, is an abomination before God.
Jésus leur dit: « Vous êtes ceux qui se font passer pour justes devant les hommes; mais Dieu connaît vos cœurs; et ce qui est élevé aux yeux des hommes est une abomination devant Dieu.
16 The law and the prophets were until John; from that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every one useth violence towards it.
La Loi et les prophètes vont jusqu’à Jean; depuis Jean, le royaume de Dieu est annoncé, et chacun fait effort pour y entrer.
17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fall.
Plus facilement le ciel et la terre passeront, qu’un seul trait de la Loi périsse.
18 Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery.
Quiconque renvoie sa femme et en épouse une autre, commet un adultère; et quiconque épouse la femme renvoyée par son mari, commet un adultère.
19 There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen; and feasted sumptuously every day.
Il y avait un homme riche qui était vêtu de pourpre et de fin lin, et qui faisait chaque jour splendide chère.
20 And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, full of sores,
Un pauvre, nommé Lazare, était couché à sa porte, couvert d’ulcères,
21 Desiring to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table, and no one did give him; moreover the dogs came, and licked his sores.
et souhaitant de se rassasier des miettes qui tombaient de la table du riche; mais les chiens mêmes venaient lécher ses ulcères.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried,
Or, il arriva que le pauvre mourut, et il fut porté par les anges dans le sein d’Abraham. Le riche mourut aussi, et on lui donna la sépulture.
23 in hell. And lifting up his eyes when he was in torments, he saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom: (Hadēs g86)
Dans l’enfer, il leva les yeux, et tandis qu’il était en proie aux tourments, il vit de loin Abraham, et Lazare dans son sein, (Hadēs g86)
24 And he cried, and said: Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, to cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame.
et il s’écria: Abraham, notre père, aie pitié de moi, et envoie Lazare, pour qu’il trempe dans l’eau le bout de son doigt et me rafraîchisse la langue; car je souffre cruellement de ces flammes.
25 And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazareth evil things, but now he is comforted; and thou art tormented.
Abraham répondit: Mon fils, sou viens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens pendant ta vie, et que pareillement Lazare a eu ses maux: maintenant il est ici consolé, et toi, tu souffres.
26 And besides all this, between us and you, there is fixed a great chaos: so that they who would pass from hence to you, cannot, nor from thence come hither.
De plus, entre nous et vous il y a pour toujours un grand abîme, afin que ceux qui voudraient passer d’ici vers vous ne le puissent, et qu’il soit impossible de passer de là-bas jusqu’à nous.
27 And he said: Then, father, I beseech thee, that thou wouldst send him to my father’s house, for I have five brethren,
Et le riche dit: Je te prie donc, père, d’envoyer Lazare dans la maison de mon père,
28 That he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torments.
— car j’ai cinq frères, — pour leur attester ces choses de peur qu’ils ne viennent, eux aussi, dans ce lieu de tourments.
29 And Abraham said to him: They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
Abraham répondit: Ils ont Moïse et les prophètes; qu’ils les écoutent. —
30 But he said: No, father Abraham: but if one went to them from the dead, they will do penance.
Non, Abraham, notre père, reprit-il; mais si quelqu’un des morts va vers eux, ils se repentiront.
31 And he said to him: If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe, if one rise again from the dead.
Mais Abraham lui dit: S’ils n’écoutent pas Moïse et les prophètes, quelqu’un des morts ressusciterait, qu’ils ne le croiraient pas. »
