Joshua 17

1 And this lot fell to the tribe of Manasses (for he is the firstborn of Joseph) to Machir the firstborn of Manasses the father of Galaad, who was a warlike man, and had for possession Galaad and Basan.

Người ta cũng bắt thăm cho chi phái Ma-na-se, vì người là con đầu lòng của Giô-sép. Con Ma-ki, con đầu lòng của Ma-na-se, và cha của Ga-la-át, bởi người là chiến sĩ, nên có được xứ Ga-la-át và Ba-san.

2 And to the rest of the children of Manasses according to their families: to the children of Abiezer, and to the children of Helec, and to the children of Esriel, and to the children of Sechem, and to the children of Hepher, and to the children of Semida: these are the male children of Manasses the son of Joseph, by their kindreds.

Người ta bắt thăm cho các con khác của Ma-na-se, tùy theo những họ hàng của chúng: về con cháu A-bi-ê-se, về con cháu Hê-léc, về con cháu Aùt-ri-ên, về con cháu Si-chem, về con cháu Hê-phe, về con cháu Sê-mi-đa. Đó là các con trai của Ma-na-se, cháu Giô-sép, tùy theo những họ hàng của chúng.

3 But Salphaad the son of Hepher the son of Galaad the son of Machir the son of Manasses had no sons, but only daughters: whose names are these, Maala and Noa and Hegla and Melcha and Thersa.

Vả, Xê-lô-phát, con trai của Hê-phe, cháu của Ga-la-át, chắt của Ma-ki, chít của Ma-na-se, không có con trai, chỉ có con gái, tên là Mách-la, Nô-a, Hốt-la, Minh-ca, và Thiệt-sa.

4 And they came in the presence of Eleazar the priest and of Josue the son of Nun, and of the princes, saying: The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, that a possession should be given us in the midst of our brethren. And he gave them according to the commandment of the Lord a possession amongst the brethren of their father.

Các con gái này đến trước mặt thầy tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa, trước mặt Giô-suê, con trai Nun, và trước mặt các quan trưởng, mà nói rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va đã phán cùng Môi-se ban cho chúng tôi một phần sản nghiệp trong anh em chúng tôi. Giô-suê vâng mạng của Đức Giê-hô-va, bèn ban cho một phần sản nghiệp trong anh em của cha các con gái đó.

5 And there fell ten portions to Manasses, beside the land of Galaad and Basan beyond the Jordan.

Vậy, mười phần bắt thăm trúng cho Ma-na-se, trừ ra xứ Ga-la-át và Ba-san ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh;

6 For the daughters of Manasses possessed inheritance in the midst of his sons. And the land of Galaad fell to the lot of the rest of the children of Manasses.

vì các con gái Ma-na-se có một phần sản nghiệp tại giữa các con trai người, còn xứ Ga-la-át thuộc về các con trai khác của Ma-na-se.

7 And the border of Manasses was from Aser, Machmethath which looketh towards Sichem: and it goeth out on the right hand by the inhabitants of the fountain of Taphua.

Giới hạn của Ma-na-se từ A-se đến Mít-mê-thát đối ngang Si-chem, rồi chạy đến Gia-min về lối dân Eân-Tháp-bu-ách.

8 For the lot of Manasses took in the land of Taphua, which is on the borders of Manasses, and belongs to the children of Ephraim.

Xứ Tháp-bu-ách thuộc về Ma-na-se; nhưng thành Tháo-bu-ách gần bờ cõi Ma-na-se, thì thuộc về người Eùp-ra-im.

9 And the border goeth down to the valley of the reeds, to the south of the torrent of the cities of Ephraim, which are in the midst of the cities of Manasses: the border of Manasses is on the north side of the torrent, and the outgoings of it are at the sea:

Từ đó giới hạn chạy xuống phía nam khe Ca-na; các thành đó ở giữa các thành Ma-na-se, đều thuộc về Eùp-ra-im. Giới hạn Ma-na-se ở về phía bắc của khe, và giáp biển.

10 So that the possession of Ephraim is on the south, and on the north that of Manasses, and the sea is the border of both, and they are joined together in the tribe of Aser on the north, and in the tribe of Issachar on the east.

Phần ở hướng nam thuộc về Eùp-ra-im, phần ở hướng bắc thuộc về Ma-na-se, còn biển dùng làm giới hạn; hai phần này giáp A-se về phía bắc, và Y-sa-ca về phía đông.

11 And the inheritance of Manasses in Issachar and in Aser, was Bethsan and its villages, and Jeblaam with its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, with the towns thereof: the inhabitants also of Endor with the villages thereof: and in like manner the inhabitants of Thenac with the villages thereof: and the inhabitants of Mageddo with their villages, and the third part of the city of Nopheth.

Trong địa phận Y-sa-ca và A-se Ma-na-se cũng được Bết-Sê-an và các thành địa hạt, Gíp-lê-am và các thành địa hạt, dân cư của Đô-rơ và các thành địa hạt, dân cư của Eân-Đô-rơ và các thành địa hạt, dân cư của Tha-na-ác và các thành địa hạt, dân cư của Mê-ghi-đô, các thành địa hạt nó, và ba cái đồng cao.

12 Neither could the children of Manasses overthrow these cities, but the Chanaanite began to dwell in his land.

Con cháu Ma-na-se chẳng đuổi được dân các thành ấy, vì dân Ca-na-an định ý ở trong xứ đó.

13 But after that the children of Israel were grown strong, they subdued the Chanaanites, and made them their tributaries, and they did not kill them.

Nhưng khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã được cường thạnh, bèn bắt dân Ca-na-an phải phục dịch; song chẳng đuổi chúng nó được hết.

14 And the children of Joseph spoke to Josue, and said: Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to possess, whereas I am of so great a multitude, and the Lord hath blessed me?

Vả, con cháu của Giô-sép nói cùng Giô-suê rằng: Chúng tôi đã thành một dân đông, vì Đức Giê-hô-va đã ban phước cho chúng tôi đến ngày nay; vậy tại làm sao ông ban cho chúng tôi chỉ một phần đất làm sản nghiệp?

15 And Josue said to them: If thou be a great people, go up into the woodland, and cut down room for thyself in the land of the Pherezite and the Raphaims: because the possession of mount Ephraim is too narrow for thee.

Giô-suê đáp: Nếu các ngươi đông như vậy, và núi Eùp-ra-im rất hẹp cho các ngươi, thì hãy lên khai phá rừng, đặng làm một chỗ ở cho mình trong xứ dân Phê-rê-sít và dân Rê-pha-im.

16 And the children of Joseph answered him: We cannot go up to the mountains, for the Chanaanites that dwell in the low lands, wherein are situate Bethsan with its towns, and Jezrael in the midst of the valley, have chariots of iron.

Nhưng con cháu Giô-sép đáp rằng: Núi không đủ chỗ cho chúng tôi; còn miền đồng bằng, hết thảy dân Ca-na-an ở đó, dân Bết-Sê-an, và người ở các thành địa hạt nó, luôn những người ở trong trũng Gít-rê-ên, đều có thiết xa.

17 And Josue said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasses: Thou art a great people, and of great strength, thou shalt not have one lot only:

Giô-suê bèn nói cùng nhà Giô-sép, tức là Eùp-ra-im và Ma-na-se, mà rằng: Ngươi là một dân đông, có sức lớn, sẽ chẳng lãnh chỉ một phần đất thôi;

18 But thou shalt pass to the mountain, and shalt cut down the wood, and make thyself room to dwell in: and mayst proceed farther, when thou hast destroyed the Chanaanites, who as thou sayest have iron chariots, and are very strong.

nhưng núi sẽ thuộc về ngươi; dầu là một cái rừng, ngươi sẽ khai phá nó, và các bờ cõi nó sẽ thuộc về ngươi; vì ngươi sẽ đuổi dân Ca-na-an, mặc dầu chúng nó có thiết xa và là cường thạnh.
