John 9
1 And Jesus passing by, saw a man, who was blind from his birth:
Comme il passait par là, il vit un homme aveugle de naissance.
2 And his disciples asked him: Rabbi, who hath sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?
Ses disciples lui demandèrent: « Rabbi, qui a péché, cet homme ou ses parents, pour qu'il soit né aveugle? »
3 Jesus answered: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Jésus répondit: Cet homme n'a pas péché, ni ses parents, mais c'est pour que les œuvres de Dieu soient révélées en lui.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Il faut que je fasse, pendant qu'il est jour, les œuvres de celui qui m'a envoyé. La nuit vient, où personne ne peut travailler.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Tant que je suis dans le monde, je suis la lumière du monde. »
6 When he had said these things, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and spread the clay on his eyes,
Après avoir dit cela, il cracha par terre, fit de la boue avec sa salive, oignit les yeux de l'aveugle avec cette boue,
7 And said to him: Go, wash in the pool of Siloe, which is interpreted, Sent. He went therefore, and washed, and he came seeing.
et lui dit: « Va te laver dans la piscine de Siloé » (qui signifie « Envoyé »). Il s'en alla donc, se lava, et revint voyant.
8 The neighbours therefore, and they who had seen him before that he was a beggar, said: Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said: This is he.
C'est pourquoi les voisins et ceux qui avaient vu qu'il était aveugle auparavant disaient: « N'est-ce pas lui qui s'asseyait et mendiait? »
9 But others said: No, but he is like him. But he said: I am he.
D'autres disaient: « C'est lui. » D'autres encore disaient: « Il lui ressemble. » Il a dit: « Je suis lui. »
10 They said therefore to him: How were thy eyes opened?
Ils lui demandaient donc: « Comment tes yeux ont-ils été ouverts? »
11 He answered: That man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me: Go to the pool of Siloe, and wash. And I went, I washed, and I see.
Il répondit: « Un homme appelé Jésus a fait de la boue, m'a oint les yeux et m'a dit: « Va te laver au bassin de Siloé ». Je suis donc parti, je me suis lavé, et j'ai recouvré la vue. »
12 And they said to him: Where is he? He saith: I know not.
Alors ils lui demandèrent: « Où est-il? » Il a dit: « Je ne sais pas. »
13 They bring him that had been blind to the Pharisees.
On amena aux pharisiens celui qui avait été aveugle.
14 Now it was the sabbath, when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
C'était un sabbat quand Jésus fit la boue et lui ouvrit les yeux.
15 Again therefore the Pharisees asked him, how he had received his sight. But he said to them: He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and I see.
Les pharisiens lui demandèrent de nouveau comment il avait recouvré la vue. Il leur répondit: « Il a mis de la boue sur mes yeux, je me suis lavé, et je vois. »
16 Some therefore of the Pharisees said: This man is not of God, who keepeth not the sabbath. But others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
Quelques-uns des pharisiens disaient donc: « Cet homme ne vient pas de Dieu, parce qu'il n'observe pas le sabbat. » D'autres disaient: « Comment un homme qui est un pécheur peut-il faire de tels signes? » Il y eut donc division parmi eux.
17 They say therefore to the blind man again: What sayest thou of him that hath opened they eyes? And he said: He is a prophet.
C'est pourquoi ils redemandèrent à l'aveugle: « Que dis-tu de lui, puisqu'il t'a ouvert les yeux? » Il a dit: « C'est un prophète. »
18 The Jews then did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,
Les Juifs ne crurent donc pas à son sujet, qu'il avait été aveugle et qu'il avait recouvré la vue, jusqu'à ce qu'ils aient appelé les parents de celui qui avait recouvré la vue,
19 And asked them, saying: Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then doth he now see?
et leur aient demandé: « Est-ce là votre fils, que vous dites être né aveugle? Comment donc voit-il maintenant? »
20 His parents answered them, and said: We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
Ses parents leur répondirent: « Nous savons que c'est notre fils, et qu'il est né aveugle;
21 But how he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: ask himself: he is of age, let him speak for himself.
mais nous ne savons pas comment il voit maintenant, ni qui lui a ouvert les yeux. Il est majeur. Interrogez-le. Il parlera lui-même. »
22 These things his parents said, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
Ses parents disaient cela parce qu'ils craignaient les Juifs; car les Juifs étaient déjà convenus que si quelqu'un voulait le confesser comme le Christ, il serait chassé de la synagogue.
23 Therefore did his parents say: He is of age, ask himself.
C'est pourquoi ses parents dirent: « Il est majeur. Demande-lui. »
24 They therefore called the man again that had been blind, and said to him: Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.
Ils appelèrent donc une seconde fois l'aveugle et lui dirent: « Rendez gloire à Dieu. Nous savons que cet homme est un pécheur. »
25 He said therefore to them: If he be a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.
Il répondit donc: « Je ne sais pas s'il est pécheur. Mais je sais une chose: j'étais aveugle, et maintenant je vois. »
26 They said then to him: What did he to thee? How did he open thy eyes?
Ils lui dirent encore: « Que t'a-t-il fait? Comment t'a-t-il ouvert les yeux? »
27 He answered them: I have told you already, and you have heard: why would you hear it again? will you also become his disciples?
Il leur répondit: « Je vous l'ai déjà dit, et vous n'avez pas écouté. Pourquoi voulez-vous l'entendre à nouveau? Vous ne voulez pas aussi devenir ses disciples, n'est-ce pas? ".
28 They reviled him therefore, and said: Be thou his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses.
Ils l'insultèrent et dirent: « Tu es son disciple, mais nous sommes les disciples de Moïse.
29 We know that God spoke to Moses: but as to this man, we know not from whence he is.
Nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse. Mais quant à cet homme, nous ne savons pas d'où il vient. »
30 The man answered, and said to them: Why, herein is a wonderful thing, that you know not from whence he is, and he hath opened my eyes.
L'homme leur répondit: « C'est étonnant! Vous ne savez pas d'où il vient, et pourtant il m'a ouvert les yeux.
31 Now we know that God doth not hear sinners: but if a man be a server of God, and doth his will, him he heareth.
Nous savons que Dieu n'écoute pas les pécheurs, mais si quelqu'un est un adorateur de Dieu et fait sa volonté, il l'écoute.
32 From the beginning of the world it hath not been heard, that any man hath opened the eyes of one born blind. (aiōn g165)
Depuis le commencement du monde, on n'a jamais entendu dire que quelqu'un ait ouvert les yeux d'un aveugle-né. (aiōn g165)
33 Unless this man were of God, he could not do any thing.
Si cet homme ne venait pas de Dieu, il ne pourrait rien faire. »
34 They answered, and said to him: Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
Ils lui répondirent: « Tu es né tout entier dans le péché, et tu nous enseignes? » Alors ils le jetèrent dehors.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him: Dost thou believe in the Son of God?
Jésus, ayant appris qu'ils l'avaient jeté dehors, le trouva et lui dit: « Crois-tu au Fils de Dieu? »
36 He answered, and said: Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?
Il répondit: « Qui est-il, Seigneur, pour que je croie en lui? »
37 And Jesus said to him: Thou hast both seen him; and it is he that talketh with thee.
Jésus lui dit: « Vous l'avez vu tous les deux, et c'est lui qui vous parle. »
38 And he said: I believe, Lord. And falling down, he adored him.
Il dit: « Seigneur, je crois », et il se prosterna devant lui.
39 And Jesus said: For judgment I am come into this world; that they who see not, may see; and they who see, may become blind.
Jésus a dit: « Je suis venu dans ce monde pour juger, afin que ceux qui ne voient pas voient, et que ceux qui voient deviennent aveugles. »
40 And some of the Pharisees, who were with him, heard: and they said unto him: Are we also blind?
Ceux des pharisiens qui étaient avec lui entendirent ces choses, et lui dirent: « Sommes-nous aussi aveugles? »
41 Jesus said to them: If you were blind, you should not have sin: but now you say: We see. Your sin remaineth.
Jésus leur dit: « Si vous étiez aveugles, vous n'auriez pas de péché; mais maintenant vous dites: « Nous voyons ». C'est pourquoi votre péché demeure.
