< Isaiah 1 >

1 The vision of Isaias the son of Amos I which he saw concerning Juda and Jerusalem in the days of Ozias, Joathan, Achaz, and Ezechias, kings of Juda.
Ko e meʻa naʻe hā mai kia ʻIsaia koe foha ʻo ʻAmosi, ʻaia naʻa ne mamata ʻoku kau ki Siuta mo Selūsalema ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo ʻUsia, mo Sotame, mo ʻAhasi, pea mo Hesekaia, koe ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Siuta.
2 Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the Lord hath spoken. I have brought up children, and exalted them: but they have despised me.
Mou fanongo, ʻae ngaahi langi, pea fakafanongo mo māmani: he ʻoku folofola ʻa Sihova, “Kuo u fafanga mo tauhi ʻae fānau, pea kuo nau angatuʻu kiate au.
3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel hath not known me, and my people hath not understood.
‌ʻOku ʻilo ʻe he pulu ʻaia ʻoku ʻaʻana ia, pea mo e ʻasi ʻae fale manu ʻo ʻene ʻeiki: ka ʻoku ʻikai ʻilo ʻe ʻIsileli, ʻoku ʻikai tokanga ʻa hoku kakai.”
4 Woe to the sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a wicked seed, ungracious children: they have forsaken the Lord, they have blasphemed the Holy One of Israel, they are gone away backwards.
Oiau! ʻAe puleʻanga angakovi, ko e kakai māfasia ʻi he hia, ko e hako fai meʻa kovi, ko e fānau ʻoku fakahala: kuo nau liʻaki ʻa Sihova, kuo nau fakahouhauʻi ʻae tokotaha māʻoniʻoni ʻo ʻIsileli, kuo nau fakaholomui.
5 For what shall I strike you any more, you that increase transgression? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart is sad.
Ko e hā ʻe toe teʻia ai ʻakimoutolu? ʻE tupulaki pe hoʻomou angatuʻu: ʻoku mahaki ʻae ʻulu kotoa pē, pea vaivai mo e loto kotoa pē.
6 From the sole of the foot unto the top of the head, there is no soundness therein: wounds and bruises and swelling sores: they are not bound up, nor dressed, nor fomented with oil.
Mei he ʻaofi vaʻe ʻo aʻu ki he ʻulu ʻoku ʻikai ha haohaoa ʻi ai; ka ko e lavea, mo e volu, mo e pala kovi: ʻoku teʻeki ai fakamaʻopo, pe nonoʻo, pe feʻauaki ʻae lolo faitoʻo.
7 Your land is desolate, your cities are burnt with fire: your country strangers devour before your face, and it shall be desolate as when wasted by enemies.
Kuo lala homou fonua, kuo vela homou ngaahi kolo ʻi he afi: pea ko homou fonua, ʻoku kai ʻo ʻosi ʻe he kakai muli ʻi homou ʻao, pea ʻoku lala ia, ʻo hangē kuo fakaʻauha ʻe he kau muli.
8 And the daughter of Sion shall be left as a covert in a vineyard, and as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, and as a city that is laid waste.
Pea kuo tuku ʻae ʻofefine ʻo Saione ʻo hangē ko e fale siʻi ʻi he ngoue vaine, ʻo hangē ko e fale leʻo ʻi he ngoue kukumipa, ʻo hangē ko e kolo kuo kāpui ʻe he tau.
9 Except the Lord of hosts had left us seed, we had been as Sodom, and we should have been like to Gomorrha.
Ka ne ʻikai tuku kiate kitautolu ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau ha tokosiʻi, pehē, kuo tau hangē ko Sotoma, pea kuo tau tatau mo Komola.
10 Hear the word of the Lord, ye rulers of Sodom, give ear to the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrha.
Fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻakimoutolu ʻae kau pule ʻo Sotoma; fakafanongo ki he fono ʻa hotau ʻOtua, ʻakimoutolu ko e kakai ʻo Komola.
11 To what purpose do you offer me the multitude of your victims, saith the Lord? I am full, I desire not holocausts of rams, and fat of fatlings, and blood of calves, and lambs, and buck goats.
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Ko e hā hono ʻaonga ʻo hoʻomou ngaahi feilaulau lahi kiate au? Kuo u fiu ʻi he feilaulau ʻaki ʻae fanga sipitangata, mo e ngako ʻoe manu sino; pea ʻoku ʻikai te u fiemālie ʻi he toto ʻoe fanga pulu, pe ko e fanga lami, pe ko e fanga kosi tangata.
12 When you came to appear before me, who required these things at your hands, that you should walk in my courts?
‌ʻOka mou ka haʻu ke fakahā ʻakimoutolu ʻi hoku ʻao, ko hai kuo ne fekau ke ʻomi ʻae meʻa ni ʻi homou nima, ke malaki hoku ngaahi potu tapu?
13 Offer sacrifice no more in vain: incense is an abomination to me. The new moons, and the sabbaths, and other festivals I will not abide, your assemblies are wicked.
14 My soul hateth your new moons, and your solemnities: they are become troublesome to me, I am weary of bearing them.
‌ʻOku fehiʻa ʻa hoku laumālie ki hoʻomou ngaahi māhina foʻou mo hoʻomou ngaahi kātoanga: ko e meʻa fakamamahi ia kiate au; kuo u fiu ʻi hono kātaki.
15 And when you stretch forth your hands, I will turn away my eyes from you: and when you multiply prayer, I will not hear: for your hands are full of blood.
‌ʻOka mou ka mafao homou nima, te u fufū hoku fofonga ʻiate kimoutolu: ʻio, ʻoka mou ka hū ʻo liunga lahi, ʻe ʻikai te u fanongo: he ʻoku pito homou nima ʻi he toto.
16 Wash yourselves, be clean, take away the evil of your devices from my eyes: cease to do perversely,
“Fufulu ʻakimoutolu, ʻo ngaohi ke mou maʻa; hiki ke mamaʻo meiate au ʻae kovi ʻo hoʻomou faianga; tuku ʻae fai kovi;
17 Learn to do well: seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge for the fatherless, defend the widow.
‌ʻAko ke mou fai lelei: kumi ki he angatonu, tokoni ʻakinautolu kuo fakamālohia, fakamaau ki he tamai mate, langomakiʻi ʻae fefine kuo mate hono husepāniti.”
18 And then come, and accuse me, saith the Lord: if your sins be as scarlet, they shall be made as white as snow: and if they be red as crimson, they shall be white as wool.
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Mou haʻu, pea ke tau alea fakataha: he neongo ʻae tatau ʻo hoʻomou angahala mo e kulaʻahoʻaho, ʻe hoko ia ke hinehina ʻo hangē ko e ʻuha hinaekiaki; kapau ʻoku kulokula ia ʻo hangē ko e kulamūmū, ʻe tatau ia mo e fulufuluʻi sipi.
19 If you be willing, and will hearken to me, you shall eat the good things of the land.
Kapau te mou loto ki ai mo talangofua, te mou kai hono lelei ʻoe fonua:
20 But if you will not, and will provoke me to wrath: the sword shall devour you because the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Ka ʻi hoʻomou talangataʻa mo angatuʻu, ʻe ʻauha ai ʻakimoutolu ʻi he heletā: he kuo folofola pehē ʻae fofonga ʻo Sihova.”
21 How is the faithful city, that was full of judgment, become a harlot? justice dwelt in it, but now murderers.
Hono ʻikai liliu fau ʻae kolo naʻe angatonu ko e faʻa feʻauaki! Naʻe fonu ia ʻi he fakamaau; naʻe nofo ai ʻae māʻoniʻoni; ka ʻoku ʻi ai ni ʻae kau fakapō.
22 Thy silver is turned into dress: thy wine is mingled with water.
Kuo hoko hoʻo siliva ko e taʻeʻaonga, mo hoʻo uaine kuo huʻi ʻaki ʻae vai:
23 Thy princes are faithless, companions of thieves: they all love bribes, the run after rewards. They judge not for the fatherless: and the widow’s cometh not in to them.
‌ʻOku angatuʻu homou houʻeiki, pea kaumeʻa mo e kau kaihaʻa: ʻoku nau manako kotoa pē ki he ngaahi foaki, ʻonau muimui ki he totongi: ʻoku ʻikai te nau fakamaau ki he tamai mate, pea ʻoku ʻikai aʻu kiate kinautolu ʻae mamahi ʻae fefine kuo mate hono husepāniti.
24 Therefore saith the Lord the God of hosts, the mighty one of Israel: Ah! I will comfort myself over my adversaries: and I will be revenged of my enemies.
25 And I will turn my hand to thee, and I will clean purge away thy dress, and I will take away all thy tin.
Pea ʻe toe ala hoku nima kiate koe, pea fakamaʻa moʻoni hoʻo ʻuli, pea ʻave mo hoʻo kovi kotoa pē:
26 And I will restore thy judges as they were before, and thy counsellors as of old. After this thou shalt be called the city of the just, a faithful city.
Pea te u toe fakanofo hoʻo kau fakamaau ʻo hangē ko ia ʻi muʻa, pea mo hoʻo kau fakakaukau poto ʻo hangē ko ia ʻi he kamataʻanga: pea hili ia ʻe ui koe, ‘Ko e kolo māʻoniʻoni, ko e kolo angatonu.’
27 Sion shall be redeemed in judgment, and they shall bring her back in justice.
‌ʻE huhuʻi ʻa Saione ʻaki ʻae fakamaau, mo ʻene kakai ului ʻaki ʻae māʻoniʻoni.”
28 And he shall destroy the wicked, and the sinners together: and they that have forsaken the Lord, shall be consumed.
Pea ʻe fakaʻauha fakataha ʻae kau talangataʻa mo e angahala, pea ʻe ʻauha ʻakinautolu ʻoku liʻaki ʻa Sihova.
29 For they shall be confounded for the idols, to which they have sacrificed: and you shall be ashamed of the gardens which you have chosen.
He te nau mā ʻi he ngaahi ʻakau naʻa mou holi ki ai, pea te mou puputuʻu ʻi he ngaahi ngoue kuo mou fili.
30 When you shall be as an oak with the leaves falling off, and as a garden without water.
He te mou tatau mo e ʻakau kuo mae hono lau, pea hangē ko e ngoue ʻoku ʻikai hano vai.
31 And your strength shall be as the ashes of tow, and your work as a spark: and both shall burn together, and there shall be none to quench it.
Pea ʻe tatau ʻae mālohi mo e kākā, pea mo ʻene ngāue ʻo hangē ko e kalofiama, pea te na vela fakataha, pea ʻe ʻikai tāmateʻi ia ʻe ha tokotaha.”
