Ezekiel 16
1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:
2 Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations.
" Fils de l'homme, fais connaître à Jérusalem ses abominations
3 And thou shalt say: Thus saith the Lord God to Jerusalem: Thy root, and thy nativity is of the land of Chanaan, thy father was an Amorrhite, and thy mother a Cethite.
et dis: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh, à Jérusalem: Par ton origine et ta naissance, tu es de la terre du Chananéen; ton père était l'Amorrhéen et ta mère une Héthéenne.
4 And when thou wast born, in the day of thy nativity thy navel wits not cut, neither wast thou washed with water for thy health, nor salted with salt, nor swaddled with clouts.
Quant à ta naissance, le jour où tu naquis, ton cordon n'a pas été coupé, et tu n'as pas été baignée dans l'eau pour être purifiée; tu n'as pas été frottée de sel, ni enveloppée de langes.
5 No eye had pity on thee to do any of these things for thee, out of compassion to thee: but thou wast cast out upon the face of the earth in the abjection of thy soul, in the day that thou wast born.
Aucun œil n'eut pitié du toi pour te rendre un seul de ces soins, par compassion pour toi; mais on te jeta, par dégoût de toi, sur la face des champs, le jour de ta naissance.
6 And passing by thee, I saw that thou wast trodden under foot in thy own blood. and I said to thee when thou wast in thy blood: Live: I have said to thee: Live in thy blood.
Je passai près de toi et je te vis te débattant dans ton sang, et je te dis: Vis dans ton sang.
7 I caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field: and thou didst increase and grow great, and advancedst, and camest to woman’s ornament: thy breasts were fashioned, and thy hair grew: and thou wast naked, and full of confusion.
Je te fis multiplier comme l'herbe des champs; tu te multiplias et tu grandis; tu acquis une beauté parfaite; tes seins se formèrent et tu arrivas à la puberté; mais tu étais nue, entièrement nue.
8 And I passed by thee, and saw thee: and behold thy time was the time of lovers: and I spread my garment over thee, and covered thy ignominy. And I swore to thee, and I entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord God: and thou becamest mine.
Et je passai près de toi et je te vis; et voici que ton temps était venu, le temps des amours; j'étendis sur toi le pan de mon manteau et je couvris ta nudité; je te fis un serment et j'entrai en alliance avec toi, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh, — et tu fus à moi.
9 And I washed thee with water, and cleansed away thy blood from thee: and I anointed thee with oil.
Je te baignai dans l'eau, et je lavai ton sang de dessus toi, et je t'oignis d'huile.
10 And I clothed thee with embroidery, and shed thee with violet coloured shoes: and I girded thee about with fine linen, and clothed thee with fine garments.
Je te vêtis de broderie, et je te chaussai de peau de veau marin; je ceignis ta tête d'un voile de lin, et je te couvris de soie.
11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and put bracelets on thy hands, and a chain about thy neck.
Je t'ornai d'une parure: je mis des bracelets à tes mains, et un collier à ton cou;
12 And I put a jewel upon thy forehead and earrings in thy ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head.
je mis à ton nez un anneau, des boucles à tes oreilles, et sur ta tête un magnifique diadème.
13 And thou wast adorned with gold, and silver, and wast clothed with fine linen, and embroidered work, and many colours: thou didst eat fine hour, and honey, and oil, and wast made exceeding beautiful: and wast advanced to be a queen.
Tu t'ornas d'or et d'argent, et tu fus vêtue de lin, de soie et de broderie; la fleur de froment, le miel et l'huile étaient ta nourriture; tu devins extraordinairement belle, et tu arrivas à la dignité royale.
14 And thy renown went forth among the nations for thy beauty: for thou wast perfect through my beauty, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord God.
Ton nom se répandit parmi les nations à cause de ta beauté; car elle était parfaite, grâce à ma splendeur que j'avais répandue sur toi, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh.
15 But trusting in thy beauty, thou playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and thou hast prostituted thyself to every passenger, to be his.
Mais tu mis ta confiance en ta beauté, et tu te prostituas à la faveur de ton nom; tu prodiguas tes amours à tout passant, te livrant à lui.
16 And taking of thy garments thou hast made thee high places sewed together on each side: and hast played the harlot upon them, as hath not been done before, nor shall be hereafter.
Et tu as pris de tes vêtements, et tu t'en es fait des hauts lieux aux couleurs variées, et tu t'es prostituée dessus: ce qui ne s'était jamais fait et ne se fera jamais.
17 And thou tookest thy beautiful vessels, of my gold, and my silver, which I gave thee, and thou madest thee images of men, and hast committed fornication with them.
Tu as pris tes bijoux, faits de mon or et de mon argent que je t'avais donnés, et tu t'en es fait des images d'hommes, auxquelles tu t'es prostituée.
18 And thou tookest thy garments of divers colours, and coveredst them: and settest my oil and my sweet incense before them.
Tu as pris tes vêtements brodés et tu les en as couvertes, et tu as mis devant elles mon huile et mon encens.
19 And my bread which I gave thee, the fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast set before them for a sweet odour; and it was done, saith the Lord God.
Mon pain que je t'avais donné, la fleur de froment, l'huile et le miel dont je te nourrissais, tu les as mis devant elles en offrande d'agréable odeur. Voilà ce qui s'est fait, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh.
20 And thou hast taken thy sons, and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne to me: and best sacrificed the same to them to be devoured. Is thy fornication small?
Tu as pris tes fils et tes filles que tu m'avais enfantés; tu les leur a offerts en sacrifice pour qu'ils les dévorassent. Etait-ce trop peu de tes prostitutions,
21 Thou hast sacrificed and given my children to them, consecrating them by fire.
que tu aies égorgé mes fils, et que tu les leur aies livrés, en les faisant passer par le feu en leur honneur?
22 And after all thy abominations, and fornications, thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked, and full of confusion, trodden under foot in thy own blood.
Et au milieu de toutes tes abominations et de tes prostitutions, tu ne t'es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse, quand tu étais nue, complètement nue, te débattant dans ton sang.
23 And it came to pass after all thy wickedness (woe, woe to thee, saith the Lord God)
Après toutes tes méchantes actions, — malheur, malheur à toi! oracle du Seigneur Yahweh —
24 That thou didst also build thee a common stew, and madest thee a brothel house in every street.
tu t'es construit une voûte et tu t'es fait un tertre sur toutes les places.
25 At every head of the way thou hast set up a sign of thy prostitution: and hast made thy beauty to be abominable: and hast prostituted thyself to every one that passed by, and hast multiplied thy fornications.
A chaque carrefour tu as élevé ton tertre; tu as souillé ta beauté; tu t'es livrée à tout passant, tu as multiplié tes prostitutions.
26 And thou hast committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, men of large bodies, and hast multiplied thy fornications to provoke me.
Tu t'es prostituée aux fils de l'Egypte, tes voisins, aux membres vigoureux, et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions pour m'irriter.
27 Behold, I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and will take away thy justification: and I will deliver thee up to the will of the daughters of the Philistines that hate thee, that are ashamed of thy wicked way.
Et voici que j'ai étendu ma main sur toi; j'ai diminué ta portion; je t'ai livrée au bon plaisir de tes ennemies, les filles des Philistins, qui ont rougi de ta conduite criminelle.
28 Thou hast also committed fornication with the Assyrians, because thou wast not yet satisfied: and after thou hadst played the harlot with them, even so thou wast not contented.
Et tu t'es prostituée aux fils d'Assur, parce que tu n'étais pas rassasiée; et, après t'être prostituée à eux, tu n'as pas encore été rassasiée.
29 Thou hast also multiplied thy fornications in the land of Chanaan with the Chaldeans: and neither so wast then satisfied.
Et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions dans le pays de Chanaan jusqu'en Chaldée, et avec cela tu n'as pas encore été rassasiée.
30 Wherein shall I cleanse thy heart, saith the Lord God: seeing thou dost all these the works of a shameless prostitute?
Oh! que ton cœur est faible, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh, — pour que tu aies fait toutes ces choses, ce que fait la prostituée la plus dévergondée!
31 Because thou hast built thy brothel house at the head of every way, and thou hast made thy high place in every street: and wast not as a harlot that by disdain enhanceth her price,
Quand tu construisais ta voûte à chaque carrefour et que tu faisais ton tertre à chaque place, tu n'étais pas comme la prostituée, car tu dédaignais le salaire;
32 But as an adulteress, that bringeth in strangers over her husband.
tu étais la femme adultère, qui prend des étrangers à la place de son mari.
33 Gifts are given to all harlots: but thou hast given hire to all thy lovers, and thou hast given them gifts to come to thee from every side, to commit fornication with thee.
A toutes les prostituées on donne des présents; mais toi, tu as donné tes présents à tous tes amants, tu les as payés, pour qu'ils viennent vers toi, de toutes parts, pour tes prostitutions.
34 And it hath happened in thee contrary to the custom of women in thy fornications, and after thee there shall be no such fornication: for in that thou gavest rewards, and didst not take rewards, the contrary hath been done in thee.
Il t'est arrivé, dans tes prostitutions, le contraire de ce qui arrive aux autres femmes: personne ne te recherchait. En donnant des présents alors qu'on ne t'en faisait pas, tu as été au rebours des autres.
35 Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the Lord.
C'est pourquoi, prostituée, écoute la parole de Yahweh:
36 Thus saith the Lord God: Because thy money hath been poured out, and thy shame discovered through thy fornications with thy lovers, and with the idols of thy abominations, by the blood of thy children whom thou gavest them:
Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Parce que ton airain a été répandu et que ta nudité a été découverte, dans tes prostitutions avec tes amants et avec toutes tes abominables idoles, et à cause du sang de tes enfants que tu leur as donnés,
37 Behold, I will gather together all thy lovers with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all whom thou hast loved, with all whom thou hast hated: and I will gather them together against thee on every side, and will discover thy shame in their sight, and they shall see all thy nakedness.
à cause de cela voici que je rassemblerai tous tes amants avec lesquels tu as eu commerce, tous ceux que tu as aimés, avec tous ceux que tu as haïs; je vais les rassembler contre toi de toutes parts; je découvrirai ta nudité devant eux, et ils verront toute ta nudité.
38 And I will judge thee as adulteresses, and they that shed blood are judged: and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.
Je te jugerai selon le droit des femmes adultères et de celles qui répandent le sang; et je ferai de toi une victime sanglante de fureur et de jalousie.
39 And I will deliver thee into their hands, and they shall destroy thy brothel house, and throw down thy stews: and they shall strip thee of thy garments, and shall take away the vessels of thy beauty: and leave thee naked, and full of disgrace.
Je te livrerai entre leurs mains; ils abattront ta voûte et démoliront tes hauts lieux; ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, prendront tes bijoux et te laisseront nue, complètement nue.
40 And they shall bring upon thee a multitude, and they shall stone thee with stones, and shall slay thee with their swords.
Ils feront monter contre toi une assemblée; ils te lapideront et te perceront de leurs épées.
41 And they shall burn thy houses with fire, and shall execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and thou shalt cease from fornication, and shalt give no hire any more.
Ils brûleront tes maisons par le feu et ils exécuteront contre toi des jugements, sous les yeux de beaucoup de femmes; je ferai cesser tes prostitutions, et tu ne feras plus de présents.
42 And my indignation shall rest in thee: and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will cease and be angry no more.
J'assouvirai sur toi mon courroux, et ma jalousie s'éloignera de toi; je m'apaiserai et ne serai plus irrité.
43 Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast provoked me in all these things: wherefore I also have turned thy ways upon thy head, saith the Lord God, and I have not done according to thy wicked deeds in all thy abominations.
Parce que tu ne t'es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse et que tu m'as irrité par tous ces excès, voici que moi, à mon tour, je ferai retomber ta conduite sur ta tête, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh; et tu ne commettras plus l'impudicité avec toutes tes abominations.
44 Behold every one that useth a common proverb, shall use this against thee, saying: As the mother was, so also is her daughter.
Voici que tous ceux qui disent des proverbes en feront à ton sujet en disant:
45 Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that cast off her husband, and her children: and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who cast off their husbands, and their children: your mother was a Cethite, and your father an Amorrhite.
Telle mère, telle fille! Tu es bien la fille de ta mère qui a rejeté son mari et ses enfants, et tu es la sœur de tes sœurs qui ont rejeté leurs maris et leurs enfants; votre mère est une Héthéenne, et votre père un Amorrhéen.
46 And thy elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister that dwelleth at thy right hand is Sodom, and her daughters.
Ta grande sœur, qui demeure à ta gauche, c'est Samarie avec ses filles; et ta petite sœur, qui demeure à ta droite, c'est Sodome avec ses filles.
47 But neither hast thou walked in their ways, nor hast thou done a little less than they according to their wickednesses: thou hast done almost more wicked things than they in all thy ways.
Tu n'as pas seulement marché dans leurs voies et agi selon leurs abominations: c'était trop peu; tu t'es corrompue plus qu'elles dans toutes tes voies.
48 As I live, saith the Lord God, thy sister Sodom herself, and her daughters, have not done as thou hast done, and thy daughters.
Je suis vivant, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh: Sodome, ta sœur, elle et ses filles, n'ont pas fait ce que tu as fait, toi, et tes filles.
49 Behold this was the iniquity of Sodom thy sister, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance, and the idleness of her, and of her daughters: and they did not put forth their hand to the needy, and to the poor.
Voici quel fut le crime de Sodome, ta sœur: l'orgueil, l'abondance et l'insouciant repos où elle vivait avec ses filles, et elle ne soutenait pas la main du malheureux et de l'indigent.
50 And they were lifted up, and committed abominations before me: and I took them away as thou hast seen.
Elles sont devenues orgueilleuses, et elles ont commis l'abomination devant moi, et je les ai fait disparaître quand j'ai vu cela.
51 And Samaria committed not half thy sins: but thou hast surpassed them with thy crimes, and hast justified thy sisters by all thy abominations which thou hast done.
Samarie n'a pas commis la moitié de tes péchés; tu as multiplié tes abominations plus qu'elles ne l'avaient fait, et tu as justifié tes sœurs par toutes tes abominations que tu as commises.
52 Therefore do thou also bear thy confusion, thou that hast surpassed thy sisters with thy sins, doing more wickedly than they: for they are justified above thee, therefore be thou also confounded, and bear thy shame, thou that hast justified thy sisters.
Porte donc, toi aussi, ton opprobre, que tu rejetais sur tes sœurs, à cause de tes péchés par lesquels tu t'es rendue plus abominable qu'elles; elles sont plus justes que toi. Toi aussi, sois couverte de confusion et porte ton opprobre, puisque tu as justifié tes sœurs.
53 And I will bring back and restore them by bringing back Sodom, with her daughters, and by bringing back Samaria, and her daughters: and I will bring those that return of thee in the midst of them.
Je ramènerai leurs captifs, les captifs de Sodome et de ses filles, les captifs de Samarie et de ses filles, et tes captifs parmi les leurs,
54 That thou mayest bear thy shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, comforting them.
afin que tu portes ton opprobre et que tu sois confuse de tout ce que tu as fait pour les consoler.
55 And thy sister Sodom and her daughters shall return to their ancient state: and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their ancient state: and thou and thy daughters shall return to your ancient state.
Ta sœur Sodome et ses filles reviendront à leur premier état, Samarie et ses filles reviendront à leur premier état; et toi et tes filles, vous reviendrez à votre premier état.
56 And Sodom thy sister was not heard of in thy mouth, in the day of thy pride,
Ta sœur Sodome n'était pas nommée par ta bouche aux jours de ton orgueil,
57 Before thy malice was laid open: as it is at this time, making thee a reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all the daughters of Palestine round about thee, that encompass thee on all sides.
avant que ta perversité fut mise à nu, comme au temps où tu fus outragée par les filles de la Syrie et de tous ses alentours, par les filles des Philistins qui t'insultaient autour de toi.
58 Thou hast borne thy wickedness, and thy disgrace, saith the Lord God.
Ton crime et tes abominations, tu en as porté la peine, — oracle de Yahweh.
59 For thus saith the Lord God: I will deal with thee, as thou hast despised the oath, in breaking the covenant:
Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: J'agirai avec toi comme tu as agi, toi qui as méprisé ton serment en rompant l'alliance.
60 And I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth: and I will establish with thee an everlasting covenant.
Mais moi, je me souviendrai de mon alliance que j'ai contractée avec toi aux jours de ta jeunesse, et j'établirai avec toi une alliance éternelle.
61 And thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed: when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thy elder and thy younger: and I will give them to thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.
Tu te souviendras de ta conduite et tu en auras honte, quand tu recevras tes sœurs, celles qui sont plus grandes que toi avec celles qui sont plus petites que toi, et que je te les donnerai pour filles, mais non en vertu de ton alliance.
62 And I will establish my covenant with thee: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord,
J'établirai mon alliance avec toi, et tu sauras que je suis Yahweh,
63 That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and mayest no more open thy mouth because of thy confusion, when I shall be pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord God.
afin que tu te souviennes et que tu rougisses, afin que tu n'ouvres plus la bouche à cause de ta confusion, quand je ferai l'expiation pour toi, pour tout ce que tu as fait, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh. "
