< Exodus 40 >

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 The first month, the first day of the month, thou shalt set up the tabernacle of the testimony,
On the first day of the first month, at the new moon, you shall set up the tabernacle of witness,
3 And shalt put the ark in it, and shalt let down the veil before it:
and you shall place [in it] the ark of the testimony, and shall cover the ark with the veil,
4 And thou shalt bring in the table, and set upon it the things that are commanded according to the rite. The candlestick shall stand with its lamps,
and you shall bring in the table and shall set forth that which is to be set forth on it; and you shall bring in the candlestick and place its lamps on it.
5 And the altar of gold whereon the incense is burnt, before the ark of the testimony. Thou shalt put the hanging in the entry of the tabernacle,
And you shall place the golden altar, to burn incense before the ark; and you shall put a covering of a veil on the door of the tabernacle of witness.
6 And before it the altar of holocaust:
And you shall put the altar of burnt offerings by the doors of the tabernacle of witness, and you shall set up the tabernacle round about, and you shall hallow all that belongs to it round about.
7 The laver between the altar and the tabernacle, and thou shalt fill it with water.
8 And thou shalt encompass the court with hangings, and the entry thereof.
9 And thou shalt take the oil of unction and anoint the tabernacle with its vessels, that they may be sanctified:
And you shall take the anointing oil, and shall anoint the tabernacle, and all things in it; and shall sanctify it, and all its furniture, and it shall be holy.
10 The altar of holocaust and all its vessels:
And you shall anoint the altar of burnt offerings, and all its furniture; and you shall hallow the altar, and the altar shall be most holy.
11 The laver with its foot: thou shalt consecrate all with the oil of unction, that they may be most holy.
12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and having washed them with water,
And you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doors of the tabernacle of witness, and you shall wash them with water.
And you shall put on Aaron the holy garments, and you shall anoint him, and you shall sanctify him, and he shall minister to me as priest.
And you shall bring up his sons, and shall put garments on them.
15 Thou shalt put on them the holy vestments, that they may minister to me, and that the unction of them may prosper to an everlasting priesthood.
And you shall anoint them as you did anoint their father, and they shall minister to me as priests; and it shall be that they shall have an everlasting anointing of priesthood, throughout their generations.
16 And Moses did all that the Lord had commanded.
And Moses did all things whatever the Lord commanded him, so did he.
17 So in the first month of the second year, the first day of the month, the tabernacle was set up.
And it came to pass in the first month, in the second year after their going forth out of Egypt, at the new moon, that the tabernacle was set up.
18 And Moses reared it up, and placed the boards and the sockets and the bars, and set up the pillars,
And Moses set up the tabernacle, and put on the chapiters, and put the bars into their places, and set up the posts.
19 And spread the roof over the tabernacle, putting over it a cover, as the Lord had commanded.
And he stretched out the curtains over the tabernacle, and put the veil of the tabernacle on it above as the Lord commanded Moses.
20 And he put the testimony in the ark, thrusting bars underneath, and the oracle above.
And he took the testimonies, and put them into the ark; and he put the staves by the sides of the ark.
21 And when he had brought the ark into the tabernacle, he drew the veil before it to fulfill the commandment of the Lord.
And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and put on [it] the covering of the veil, and covered the ark of the testimony, as the Lord commanded Moses.
22 And he set the table in the tabernacle of the testimony at the north side without the veil,
And he put the table in the tabernacle of witness, on the north side without the veil of the tabernacle.
23 Setting there in order the loaves of proposition, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
And he put on it the show bread before the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.
24 He set the candlestick also in the tabernacle of the testimony over against the table on the south side,
And he put the candlestick into the tabernacle of witness, on the side of the tabernacle towards the south.
25 Placing the lamps in order, according to the precept of the Lord.
And he put on it its lamps before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
26 He set also the altar of gold under the roof of the testimony over against the veil,
And he put the golden altar in the tabernacle of witness before the veil;
27 And burnt upon it the incense of spices, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
and he burnt on it incense of composition, as the Lord commanded Moses.
28 And he put also the hanging in the entry of the tabernacle of the testimony,
29 And the altar of holocaust of the entry of the testimony, offering the holocaust, and the sacrifices upon it, as the Lord had commanded.
And he put the altar of the burnt offerings by the doors of the tabernacle.
30 And he set the laver between the tabernacle of the testimony and the altar, filling it with water.
31 And Moses and Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and feet,
And he set up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar; and Moses accomplished all the works.
32 When they went into the tabernacle of the covenant, and went to the altar, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
33 He set up also the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, drawing the hanging in the entry thereof. After all things were perfected,
34 The cloud covered the tabernacle of the testimony, and the glory of the Lord filled it.
And the cloud covered the tabernacle of witness, and the tabernacle was filled with the glory of the Lord.
35 Neither could Moses go into the tabernacle of the covenant, the cloud covering all things and the majesty of the Lord shining, for the cloud had covered all.
And Moses was not able to enter into the tabernacle of testimony, because the cloud overshadowed it, and the tabernacle was filled with the glory of the Lord.
36 If at any time the cloud removed from the tabernacle, the children of Israel went forward by their troops:
And when the cloud went up from the tabernacle, the children of Israel prepared to depart with their baggage.
37 If it hung over, they remained in the same place.
And if the cloud went not up, they did not prepare to depart, till the day when the cloud went up.
38 For the cloud of the Lord hung over the tabernacle by day, and a fire by night, in the sight of all the children of Israel throughout all their mansions.
For a cloud was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night before all Israel, in all their journeyings.
