< Deuteronomy 8 >

1 All the commandments, that I command thee this day, take great care to observe: that you may live, and be multiplied, and going in may possess the land, for which the Lord swore to your fathers.
“Ko e ngaahi fekau kotoa pē ʻaia ʻoku ou fekau kiate koe he ʻaho ni ke mou tokanga ki ai ʻo fai, koeʻuhi ke mou moʻui, pea tupu ʻo tokolahi, pea ʻalu atu ʻo maʻu ʻae fonua ʻaia naʻe fuakava ai ʻe Sihova ki hoʻomou ngaahi tamai.
2 And thou shalt remember all the way through which the Lord thy God hath brought thee for forty years through the desert, to afflict thee and to prove thee, and that the things that were in thy heart might be made known, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments or no.
Pea te ke manatu ki he hala kotoa pē ʻaia naʻe tataki ai koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ʻi he taʻu ʻe fāngofulu ni ʻi he toafa, ke fakaangavaivaiʻi koe, ke ʻahiʻahiʻi koe, pea ke ʻilo ʻaia kotoa pē naʻe ʻi ho loto, pe te ke tauhi ki heʻene ngaahi fekau, pe ʻikai.
3 He afflicted thee with want, and gave thee manna for thy food, which neither thou nor thy fathers knew: to shew that not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.
Pea naʻa ne fakavaivaiʻi koe, ʻo ne tuku koe ke ke fiekaia, pea naʻa ne fafanga ʻaki koe ʻae mana, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te ke ʻilo, pea naʻe ʻikai ʻilo ʻe hoʻo ngaahi tamai; koeʻuhi ke ne fakahā kiate koe ʻoku ʻikai moʻui ʻae tangata ʻi he mā pe, ka ʻoku moʻui ʻae tangata ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku haʻu mei he fofonga ʻo Sihova.
4 Thy raiment, with which thou wast covered, hath not decayed for age, and thy foot is not worn, lo this is the fortieth year,
Naʻe ʻikai fakaʻaʻau ʻo motuʻa ho ngaahi kofu, pea naʻe ʻikai fufula ho vaʻe, ʻi he taʻu ni ʻe fāngofulu.
5 That thou mayst consider in thy heart, that as a man traineth up his son, so the Lord thy God hath trained thee up.
Pea te ke tokanga mo ʻilo ʻi ho loto foki, ʻoku hangē ko e tautea ʻe he tangata hono foha, ʻoku pehē pe ʻae tautea koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
6 That thou shouldst keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways, and fear him.
Ko ia, ke ke tauhi ʻae ngaahi fekau ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ke ʻalu ʻi hono ngaahi hala, pea ke manavahē kiate ia.
7 For the Lord thy God will bring thee into a good land, of brooks and of waters, and of fountains: in the plains of which and the hills deep rivers break out:
He ko Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ʻoku ne ʻomi koe ki he fonua lelei, ko e fonua ʻoe ngaahi vaitafe, ʻoe ngaahi matavai mo e loloto ʻoku tupu mei he ngaahi luo mo e ngaahi moʻunga;
8 A land of wheat, and barley, and vineyards, wherein fig trees and pomegranates, and oliveyards grow: a land of oil and honey.
Ko e fonua ʻoe uite mo e paʻale, mo e ngaahi vaine, mo e ʻakau ko e fiki, mo e pomikanite; ko e fonua ʻoe ʻakau ko e ʻolive fai lolo, mo e honi;
9 Where without any want thou shalt eat thy bread, and enjoy abundance of all things: where the stones are iron, and out of its hills are dug mines of brass:
Ko e fonua ke ke kai mā taʻehahonge, ʻe ʻikai te ke masiva ʻi ha meʻa ʻe taha ʻi ai; ʻae fonua ʻoku maka ʻaki ʻae ʻaione, pea te ke keli mei hono ngaahi moʻunga ʻae palasa.
10 That when thou hast eaten, and art full, thou mayst bless the Lord thy God for the excellent land which he hath given thee.
‌ʻOka ke ka kai ʻo mākona, te ke toki fakafetaʻi kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua koeʻuhi ko e fonua lelei ʻaia kuo ne foaki kiate koe.
11 Take heed, and beware lest at any time thou forget the Lord thy God, and neglect his commandments and judgments and ceremonies, which I command thee this day:
“Vakai ke ʻoua naʻa ke fakangaloʻi ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻi he liʻaki ʻo ʻene ngaahi fekau, mo ʻene ngaahi fakamaau, mo ʻene ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ʻaia ʻoku ou fekau kiate koe he ʻaho ni:
12 Lest after thou hast eaten and art filled, hast built goodly houses, and dwelt in them,
Telia naʻa hili hoʻo kai ʻo mākona, pea kuo ke langa hao ngaahi fale lelei, ʻo nofo ai;
13 And shalt have herds of oxen and flocks of sheep, and plenty of gold and of silver, and of all things,
Pea kuo tupu ʻo lahi hoʻo fanga manu lalahi mo hoʻo fanga manu siʻi, pea kuo tupu ʻo lahi hoʻo siliva mo hoʻo koula, pea kuo tupu ʻo lahi ʻae meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ke maʻu;
14 Thy heart be lifted up, and thou remember not the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage:
Pea toki hiki hake ho loto, pea ke fakangalongaloʻi ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻaia naʻa ne ʻomi koe kituaʻā mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, mei he fale ʻoe pōpula;
15 And was thy leader in the great and terrible wilderness, wherein there was the serpent burning with his breath, and the scorpion and the dipsas, and no waters at all: who brought forth streams out of the hardest rock,
‌ʻAia naʻa ne tataki atu koe ʻi he fuʻu toafa lahi mo fakamanavahē ko ia, ʻaia naʻe ʻi ai ʻae ngaahi ngata vela, mo e ngaahi sikopio, mo e laʻāina, pea naʻe ʻikai ha vai ʻi ai; ʻaia naʻa ne ʻomi vai kiate koe mei he maka afi;
16 And fed thee in the wilderness with manna which thy fathers knew not. And after he had afflicted and proved thee, at the last he had mercy on thee,
‌ʻAia naʻa ne fafangaʻi koe ʻi he toafa ʻaki ʻae mana, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai ʻilo ʻe hoʻo ngaahi tamai, koeʻuhi ke ne fakavaivaiʻi koe, pea koeʻuhi ke ne ʻahiʻahiʻi koe, ke fai lelei kiate koe ʻi ho ikuʻanga:
17 Lest thou shouldst say in thy heart: My own might, and the strength of my own hand have achieved all these things for me.
Pea telia naʻa ke pehē ʻi ho loto, Ko hoku mālohi mo e mafai ʻo hoku nima kuo ne lavaʻi ʻae ngaahi koloa ni maʻaku.
18 But remember the Lord thy God, that he hath given thee strength, that he might fulfill his covenant, concerning which he swore to thy fathers, as this present day sheweth.
Ka ke manatu koe kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua: he ko ia ia ʻoku ne foaki kiate koe ʻae mafai ke maʻu ʻae koloa, koeʻuhi ke ne fakamaʻu ʻene fuakava ʻaia naʻa ne fuakava ai ki hoʻo ngaahi tamai, ʻo hangē ko ia he ʻaho ni.
19 But if thou forget the Lord thy God, and follow strange gods, and serve and adore them: behold now I foretell thee that thou shalt utterly perish.
Pea ʻe hoko ʻo pehē, kapau ʻoku ke fakangalongaloʻi ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻo ʻalu ʻo muimui ʻi he ngaahi ʻotua
20 As the nations, which the Lord destroyed at thy entrance, so shall you also perish, if you be disobedient to the voice of the Lord your God.
Hangē ko e ngaahi kakai ʻoku fakaʻauha ʻe Sihova mei homou ʻao, ʻe pehē pe hoʻomou ʻauha; ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻomou taʻefietalangofua ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova ko homou ʻOtua.
