2 Samuel 24
1 And the anger of the Lord was again kindled against Israel, and stirred up David among them, saying: Go, number Israel and Juda.
ଏଥିଉତ୍ତାରେ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ କ୍ରୋଧ ପୁନର୍ବାର ପ୍ରଜ୍ୱଳିତ ହେଲା, ଆଉ ସେ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରବର୍ତ୍ତାଇ କହିଲେ, “ଯାଅ, ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଓ ଯିହୁଦାକୁ ଗଣନା କର।”
2 And the king said to Joab the general of his army: Go through all the tribes of Israel from Dan to Bersabee, and number ye the people that I may know the number of them.
ତହିଁରେ ରାଜା ଆପଣା ନିକଟସ୍ଥ ସେନାପତି ଯୋୟାବଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ; “ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଦାନ୍ଠାରୁ ବେର୍ଶେବା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ସମୁଦାୟ ବଂଶ ମଧ୍ୟଦେଇ ଭ୍ରମଣ କରି ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଗଣନା କର, ତାହାହେଲେ ମୁଁ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କର ସଂଖ୍ୟା ଜାଣି ପାରିବି।”
3 And Joab said to the king: The Lord thy God increase thy people, and make them as many more as they are now, and again multiply them a hundredfold in the sight of my lord the king: but what meaneth my lord the king by this kind of thing?
ଏଥିରେ ଯୋୟାବ ରାଜାଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ଏବେ ଯେତେ ଲୋକ ଅଛନ୍ତି; ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଆପଣଙ୍କ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଶତଗୁଣ ବୃଦ୍ଧି କରନ୍ତୁ ଓ ମୋʼ ପ୍ରଭୁ ମହାରାଜଙ୍କ ଚକ୍ଷୁ ତାହା ଦେଖୁ; ମାତ୍ର ମୋʼ ପ୍ରଭୁ ମହାରାଜ ଏପରି କରିବା ପାଇଁ କାହିଁକି ଚାହୁଁଅଛନ୍ତି?”
4 But the king’s words prevailed over the words of Joab, and of the captains of the army: and Joab, and the captains of the soldiers went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
ତଥାପି ଯୋୟାବ ଉପରେ ଓ ସେନାପତିମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ରାଜାଙ୍କ ବାକ୍ୟ ପ୍ରବଳ ହେଲା। ତହୁଁ ଯୋୟାବ ଓ ସେନାପତିମାନେ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଗଣନା କରିବା ପାଇଁ ରାଜାଙ୍କ ସାକ୍ଷାତରୁ ଗମନ କଲେ।
5 And when they had passed the Jordan, they came to Aroer to the right side of the city, which is in the vale of Gad.
ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ସେମାନେ ଯର୍ଦ୍ଦନ ପାର ହୋଇ ଅରୋୟେରରେ ଗାଦ୍ ଉପତ୍ୟକାର ମଧ୍ୟବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ନଗରର ଦକ୍ଷିଣ ପାଖରେ ଛାଉଣି ସ୍ଥାପନ କଲେ, ଓ ଗାଦ୍ରୁ ଯାସେର ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଯାତ୍ରା କଲେ;
6 And by Jazer they passed into Galaad, and to the lower land of Hodsi, and they came into the woodlands of Dan. And going about by Sidon,
ତହିଁ ଉତ୍ତାରେ ସେମାନେ ଗିଲୀୟଦକୁ ଓ ତହତୀମ୍-ହଦ୍ଶି ଦେଶକୁ ଆସିଲେ; ତହୁଁ ସେମାନେ ଦାନ୍-ଯାନକୁ ଓ ସେଠାରୁ ବୁଲି ସୀଦୋନକୁ ଆସିଲେ।
7 They passed near the walls of Tyre, and all the land of the Hevite, and the Chanaanite, and they came to the south of Juda into Bersabee:
ତହୁଁ ସୋର ଗଡ଼ରେ ଓ ହିବ୍ବୀୟମାନଙ୍କର ଓ କିଣାନୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ସମସ୍ତ ନଗରରେ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ହେଲେ; ପୁଣି ସେମାନେ ବେର୍ଶେବାରେ ଯିହୁଦାର ଦକ୍ଷିଣାଞ୍ଚଳକୁ ବାହାରିଗଲେ।
8 And having gone through the whole land, after nine months and twenty days, they came to Jerusalem.
ଏହିରୂପେ ସେମାନେ ସମୁଦାୟ ଦେଶ ଦେଇ ଭ୍ରମଣ କଲା ଉତ୍ତାରେ ନଅ ମାସ କୋଡ଼ିଏ ଦିନର ଶେଷରେ ଯିରୂଶାଲମରେ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ହେଲେ।
9 And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people to the king, and there were found of Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword: and of Juda five hundred thousand fighting men.
ତହିଁରେ ଯୋୟାବ ଗଣିତ ଯୋଦ୍ଧାମାନଙ୍କ ସଂଖ୍ୟା ରାଜାଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ସମର୍ପଣ କଲା; ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ଖଡ୍ଗଧାରୀ ଆଠ ଲକ୍ଷ ବଳବାନ ଲୋକ ଓ ଯିହୁଦାର ପାଞ୍ଚ ଲକ୍ଷ ଲୋକ ଥିଲେ।
10 But David’s heart struck him, after the people were numbered: and David said to the Lord: I have sinned very much in what I have done: but I pray thee, O Lord, to take away the iniquity of thy servant, because I have done exceeding foolishly.
ଏହିରୂପେ ଦାଉଦ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଗଣନା କରାଇଲା ଉତ୍ତାରେ ତାଙ୍କ ହୃଦୟ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଆଘାତ କଲା। ତହୁଁ ଦାଉଦ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ଏହି କର୍ମ କରିବାରେ ମୁଁ ମହାପାପ କରିଅଛି; ମାତ୍ର ଏବେ ହେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୋ, ବିନୟ କରୁଅଛି, ନିଜ ଦାସର ଅପରାଧ କ୍ଷମା କର; କାରଣ ମୁଁ ଅତି ମୂର୍ଖର କର୍ମ କରିଅଛି।”
11 And David arose in the morning, and the word of the Lord came to Gad the prophet and the seer of David, saying:
ଏଥିଉତ୍ତାରେ ଦାଉଦ ପ୍ରଭାତରେ ଉଠନ୍ତେ, ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ଦର୍ଶକ ଗାଦ୍ ଭବିଷ୍ୟଦ୍ବକ୍ତା ନିକଟରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ବାକ୍ୟ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ହେଲା, ଯଥା,
12 Go, and say to David: Thus saith the Lord: I give thee thy choice of three things, choose one of them which thou wilt, that I may do it to thee.
“ଦାଉଦ ନିକଟକୁ ଯାଇ ତାହାକୁ କୁହ, ‘ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଏହି କଥା କହନ୍ତି, ଆମ୍ଭେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ଆଗରେ ତିନି କଥା ରଖୁଅଛୁ; ତହିଁ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଆପଣା ପାଇଁ ଗୋଟିଏ ମନୋନୀତ କର, ତାହା ହିଁ ଆମ୍ଭେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପ୍ରତି କରିବୁ।’”
13 And when Gad was come to David, he told him, saying: Either seven years of famine shall come to thee in thy land: or thou shalt flee three months before thy adversaries, and they shall pursue thee: or for three days there shall be a pestilence in thy land. Now therefore deliberate, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
ତହୁଁ ଗାଦ୍ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ଆସି ତାଙ୍କୁ ଜଣାଇ କହିଲା, “ତୁମ୍ଭ ଦେଶରେ ତିନି ବର୍ଷ ଦୁର୍ଭିକ୍ଷ ହେବ? କି ତୁମ୍ଭ ଶତ୍ରୁମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପଛେ ପଛେ ଗୋଡ଼ାଇବା ବେଳେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଆଗେ ଆଗେ ତିନି ମାସ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ପଳାଇବ? କିଅବା ତିନି ଦିନ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ତୁମ୍ଭ ଦେଶରେ ମହାମାରୀ ହେବ? ଏହା ବୁଝ, ଆଉ ମୋʼ ପ୍ରେରଣା କର୍ତ୍ତାଙ୍କୁ ମୁଁ ଫେରି କି ଉତ୍ତର ଦେବି, ତାହା ବିବେଚନା କର।”
14 And David said to Gad: I am in a great strait: but it is better that I should fall into the hands of the Lord (for his mercies are many) than into the hands of men.
ତହିଁରେ ଦାଉଦ ଗାଦ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ମୁଁ ବଡ଼ ଅକଳରେ ପଡ଼ିଲି, ଆସ, ଆମ୍ଭେମାନେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ହସ୍ତରେ ପଡ଼ୁ; କାରଣ ତାହାଙ୍କ ଦୟା ପ୍ରଚୁର; ମାତ୍ର ମୁଁ ମନୁଷ୍ୟ ହସ୍ତରେ ନ ପଡ଼େ।”
15 And the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel, from the morning unto the time appointed, and there died of the people from Dan to Bersabee seventy thousand men.
ତହୁଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ପ୍ରାତଃକାଳ ଅବଧି ନିରୂପିତ ସମୟ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଉପରେ ମହାମାରୀ ପଠାଇଲେ; ତହିଁରେ ଦାନ୍ଠାରୁ ବେର୍ଶେବା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ସତୁରି ହଜାର ଲୋକ ମଲେ।
16 And when the angel of the Lord had stretched out his hand over Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord had pity on the affliction, and said to the angel that slew the people: It is enough: now hold thy hand. And the angel of the Lord was by the thrashingfloor of Areuna the Jebusite.
ଆଉ ଦୂତ ଯିରୂଶାଲମକୁ ବିନାଶ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ତହିଁ ଆଡ଼କୁ ହସ୍ତ ବିସ୍ତାର କରନ୍ତେ, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ସେହି ବିପଦ ସକାଶୁ ଦୁଃଖିତ ହୋଇ ସେହି ବିନାଶକ ଦୂତକୁ କହିଲେ, “ଯଥେଷ୍ଟ ହେଲା; ଏବେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ହସ୍ତ ସଙ୍କୁଚିତ କର।” ଏହି ସମୟରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ସେହି ଦୂତ ଯିବୂଷୀୟ ଅରୌଣାର ଶସ୍ୟମର୍ଦ୍ଦନ ସ୍ଥାନ ନିକଟରେ ଥିଲା।
17 And David said to the Lord, when he saw the angel striking the people: It is I; I am he that have sinned, I have done wickedly: these that are the sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I beseech thee, be turned against me, and against my father’s house.
ପୁଣି ଦାଉଦ ସେହି ବିନାଶକ ଦୂତଙ୍କୁ ଦେଖି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ଦେଖ, ମୁଁ ପାପ କଲି ଓ ମୁଁ ହିଁ ଅପରାଧୀ ହେଲି; ମାତ୍ର ଏହି ମେଷଗଣ କଅଣ କଲେ? ବିନୟ କରୁଅଛି, ତୁମ୍ଭ ହସ୍ତ ମୋʼ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଓ ମୋʼ ପିତୃଗୃହର ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ହେଉ।”
18 And Gad came to David that day, and said: Go up, and build an altar to the Lord in the thrashingfloor of Areuna the Jebusite.
ସେହି ଦିନ ଗାଦ୍ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ଯାଇ ତାଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ଯାଅ, ଯିବୂଷୀୟ ଅରୌଣାର ଶସ୍ୟମର୍ଦ୍ଦନ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଏକ ଯଜ୍ଞବେଦି ସ୍ଥାପନ କର।”
19 And David went up according to the word of Gad which the Lord had commanded him.
ତେଣୁ ଦାଉଦ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଆଜ୍ଞା ପ୍ରମାଣେ ଗାଦ୍ର ବାକ୍ୟାନୁସାରେ ଉଠିଗଲେ।
20 And Areuna looked, and saw the king and his servants coming towards him:
ସେତେବେଳେ ଅରୌଣା ଅନାଇ ଦେଖିଲା ଯେ, ରାଜା ଓ ତାଙ୍କର ଦାସମାନେ ତାହା ଆଡ଼କୁ ଆସୁଅଛନ୍ତି; ତହିଁରେ ଅରୌଣା ବାହାରେ ଆସି ରାଜାଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ମୁହଁ ମାଡ଼ି ଭୂମିଷ୍ଠ ପ୍ରଣାମ କଲା।
21 An going out he worshipped the king, bowing with his face to the earth, and said: Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? Arid David said to him: To buy the thrashingfloor of thee, and build an altar to the Lord, that the plague, which rageth among the people, may cease.
ପୁଣି ଅରୌଣା ପଚାରିଲା, “ମୋʼ ପ୍ରଭୁ ମହାରାଜ ଆପଣା ଦାସ ନିକଟକୁ କି ନିମନ୍ତେ ଆସିଲେ?” ତହିଁରେ ଦାଉଦ କହିଲେ, “ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଯେପରି ମହାମାରୀ ନିବୃତ୍ତ ହେବ, ଏଥିପାଇଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଏକ ଯଜ୍ଞବେଦି ନିର୍ମାଣ କରିବା, ତେଣୁ ତୁମ୍ଭଠାରୁ ଶସ୍ୟମର୍ଦ୍ଦନ ସ୍ଥାନ କିଣିବାକୁ ଆସିଲି।”
22 And Areuna said to David: Let my lord the king take, and offer, as it seemeth good to him: thou hast here oxen for a holocaust, and the wain, and the yokes of the oxen for wood.
ତହୁଁ ଅରୌଣା ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ମୋʼ ପ୍ରଭୁ ମହାରାଜଙ୍କୁ ଯାହା ଭଲ ଦିଶେ, ତାହା ନେଇ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗ କରନ୍ତୁ; ଦେଖନ୍ତୁ, ହୋମବଳି ନିମନ୍ତେ ଏହି ବୃଷସବୁ ଓ କାଷ୍ଠ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଏହି ମର୍ଦ୍ଦନ ଯନ୍ତ୍ର ଓ ବୃଷମାନଙ୍କ ସାଜ ଅଛି;”
23 All these things Areuna as a king gave to the king: and Areuna said to the king: The Lord thy God receive thy vow.
ହେ ମହାରାଜ, ଅରୌଣା ଏସମସ୍ତ ମହାରାଜଙ୍କୁ ଦେଉଅଛି। ଆହୁରି ଅରୌଣା ରାଜାଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଆପଣଙ୍କ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ଆପଣଙ୍କୁ ଗ୍ରହଣ କରନ୍ତୁ।”
24 And the king answered him, and said: Nay, but I will buy it of thee at a price, and I will not offer to the Lord my God holocausts free cost. So David bought the floor, and the oxen, for fifty sicles of silver:
ତହିଁରେ ରାଜା ଅରୌଣାକୁ କହିଲେ, “ନା, ମାତ୍ର ମୁଁ ଅବଶ୍ୟ ମୂଲ୍ୟ ଦେଇ ତୁମ୍ଭଠାରୁ ଏସବୁ କିଣିବି; ଆଉ ମୁଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ମୋʼ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ବିନାମୂଲ୍ୟର ହୋମବଳି ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗ କରିବି ନାହିଁ।” ତହୁଁ ଦାଉଦ ପଚାଶ ଶେକଲ (ଏକ ଶେକଲ ୧୨ ଗ୍ରାମ୍) ରୂପାରେ ସେହି ଶସ୍ୟମର୍ଦ୍ଦନ ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ବୃଷସବୁ କିଣିଲେ।
25 And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered holocausts and peace offerings: and the Lord became merciful to the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
ପୁଣି ଦାଉଦ ସେହି ସ୍ଥାନରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଏକ ଯଜ୍ଞବେଦି ନିର୍ମାଣ କରି ହୋମବଳି ଓ ମଙ୍ଗଳାର୍ଥକ ବଳି ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗ କଲେ। ତହିଁରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ବିନତି ଶୁଣି ଦେଶ ପ୍ରତି ପ୍ରସନ୍ନ ହେଲେ, ପୁଣି ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ମହାମାରୀ ନିବୃତ୍ତ ହେଲା।
