2 Samuel 19
1 And it was told Joab, that the king wept and mourned for his son:
Dijeron a Joab: “He aquí que el rey llora y hace duelo por Absalón.”
2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day: The king grieveth for his son.
De modo que en aquel día la victoria se trocó en luto para todo el pueblo; porque el pueblo supo en ese día que el rey se afligía por su hijo.
3 And the people shunned the going into the city that day as a people would do that hath turned their backs, and fled away from the battle.
En aquel día el pueblo entró en la ciudad a hurtadillas como suele entrar furtivamente la gente avergonzada cuando huye en la batalla.
4 And the king covered his head, and cried with a loud voice: O my son Absalom, O Absalom my son, O my son.
El rey se había cubierto el rostro y clamaba en alta voz: “¡Hijo mío, Absalón! ¡Absalón, hijo mío, hijo mío!”
5 Then Joab going into the house to the king, said: Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, that have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons, and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines.
Entró entonces Joab en casa del rey y le dijo: “Has cubierto hoy de confusión el rostro de todos tus siervos, que hoy han salvado tu vida, y la vida de tus hijos y de tus hijas, y la vida de tus esposas y de tus mujeres secundarias.
6 Thou lovest them that hate thee, and thou hatest them that love thee: and thou hast shewn this day that thou carest not for thy nobles, nor for thy servants: and I now plainly perceive that if Absalom had lived, and all we had been slain, then it would have pleased thee.
Tú amas a los que te aborrecen, y aborreces a los que te aman. Porque hoy has mostrado que nada te importan ni príncipes, ni siervos; pues ahora sé que si Absalón viviera y nosotros todos estuviéramos hoy muertos, te darías por satisfecho.
7 Now therefore arise, and go out, and speak to the satisfaction of thy servants: for I swear to thee by the Lord, that if thou wilt not go forth, there will not tarry with thee so much as one this night: and that will be worse to thee, than all the evils that have befallen thee from thy youth until now.
Levántate ahora y sal fuera, y habla al corazón de tus siervos. Pues juro por Yahvé que si no sales, no quedará un solo hombre contigo esta noche. Y esto será para ti un mal peor que todos los males que han venido sobre ti desde tu mocedad hasta ahora.”
8 Then the king arose and sat in the gate: and it was told to all the people that the king sat in the gate: and all the people came before the king, but Israel fled to their own dwellings.
Con esto se levantó el rey y se sentó a la puerta, y se le dio a todo el pueblo esta noticia: “He aquí que el rey está sentado a la puerta.” Y todo el pueblo se presentó delante del rey. Entretanto los de Israel habían huido cada cual a su tienda.
9 And all the people were at strife in all the tribes of Israel, saying: The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines: and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom.
Todo el pueblo, en todas las tribus de Israel, disputaba entre sí, diciendo: “El rey nos libró del poder de nuestros enemigos, él nos salvó de las manos de los filisteos, y ahora ha huido del país a causa de Absalón.
10 But Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in the battle: how long are you silent, and bring not back the king?
Ahora bien, Absalón, a quien habíamos ungido por rey sobre nosotros, ha muerto en la batalla. ¿Por qué, pues, no hacéis nada para traer al rey?”
11 And king David sent to Sadoc, and Abiathar the priests, saying: Speak to the ancients of Juda, saying: Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house? (For the talk of all Israel was come to the king in his house.)
El rey David envió entonces a decir a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar: “Hablad con los ancianos de Judá, diciendo: ¿Cómo es que sois vosotros los últimos en hacer volver al rey a su casa? Pues lo que en todo Israel se decía había llegado a la casa del rey.
12 You are my brethren, you are my bone, and my flesh, why are you the last to bring back the king?
Vosotros sois mis hermanos, sois huesos míos y carne mía; ¿por qué, pues, sois los últimos en hacer volver al rey?
13 And say ye to Amasa: Art not thou my bone, and my flesh? So do God to me and add more, if thou be not the chief captain of the army before me always in the place of Joab.
Decid también a Amasá: ¿No eres tú mi hueso y mi carne? Esto y aún más me haga Dios, si no has de ser delante de mí jefe vitalicio del ejército, en lugar de Joab.”
14 And be inclined the heart of all the men of Juda, as it were of one man: and they sent to the king, saying: Return thou, and all thy servants.
Así ganó el corazón de todos los hombres de Judá, como si fuese un solo hombre; y enviaron a decir al rey: “Vuelve tú y todos tus siervos.”
15 And the king returned and came as far as the Jordan, and all Juda came as far as Galgal to meet the king, and to bring him over the Jordan.
Volvió, pues, el rey, y vino al Jordán. Los de Judá habían ido al encuentro del rey hasta Gálgala, a fin de ayudarle en el paso del Jordán.
16 And Semei the son of Gera the son of Jemini of Bahurim, made haste and went down with the men of Juda to meet king David,
También Semeí, hijo de Gerá, de los hijos de Benjamín, de Bahurim, se apresuró a descender con los hombres de Judá para recibir al rey David;
17 With a thousand men of Benjamin, and Siba the servant of the house of Saul: and his fifteen sons, and twenty servants were with him: and going over the Jordan,
y con él mil hombres de Benjamín; y Sibá, siervo de la casa de Saúl, y con él sus quince hijos y sus veinte siervos, que pasaron el Jordán delante del rey.
18 They passed the fords before the king, that they might help over the king’s household, and do according to his commandment. And Semei the son of Gera falling down before the king, when he was come over the Jordan,
Cruzaron el vado para pasar a la familia del rey y ponerse a su disposición. Entonces Semeí, hijo de Gerá, se postró delante del rey, en el momento que este iba a pasar el Jordán,
19 Said to him: Impute not to me, my lord, the iniquity, nor remember the injuries of thy servant on the day that thou, my lord, the king, wentest out of Jerusalem, nor lay it up in thy heart, O king.
y dijo al rey: “¡No me impute mi señor la iniquidad, y no se acuerde de lo que hice perversamente el día en que mi señor, el rey, salió de Jerusalén! ¡No haga el rey caso de ello!
20 For I thy servant acknowledge my sin: and therefore I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph, and am come down to meet my lord the king.
Porque bien sabe tu siervo que ha pecado. He aquí que he venido hoy, el primero de toda la casa de José, para bajar al encuentro de mi señor el rey.”
21 But Abisai the son of Sarvia answering, said: Shall Semei for these words not be put to death, because he cursed the Lord’s anointed?
Entonces Abisai, hijo de Sarvia, tomó la palabra y dijo: “¿Acaso no ha de morir Semeí, por haber maldecido al ungido de Yahvé?”
22 And David said: What have I to do with you, ye sons of Sarvia? why are you a satan this day to me? shall there any man be killed this day in Israel? do not I know that this day I am made king over Israel?
Pero David dijo: “¿Qué tengo yo que ver con vosotros, hijos de Sarvia? ¿Por qué me tentáis? Nadie ha de morir hoy en Israel, pues he visto que hoy seré (de nuevo) rey sobre Israel.”
23 And the king said to Semei: Thou shalt not die. And he swore unto him.
Y dijo el rey a Semeí: “No morirás.” Y se lo juró el rey.
24 And Miphiboseth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and he had neither washed his feet, nor trimmed his beard: nor washed his garments from the day that the king went out, until the day of his return in peace.
También Mefibóset, hijo de Saúl, había descendido al encuentro del rey. No había cuidado sus pies, ni compuesto la barba, ni lavado la ropa, desde el día que subió el rey hasta el día que volvió en paz.
25 And when he met the king at Jerusalem, the king said to him: Why camest thou not with me, Miphiboseth?
Cuando vino de Jerusalén al encuentro del rey, este le dijo: “¿Por qué no fuiste conmigo, Mefibóset?”
26 And he answering, said: My lord, O king, my servant despised me: for I thy servant spoke to him to saddle me an ass, that I might get on and go with the king: for I thy servant am lame.
Respóndió él: “¡Oh rey y señor mío, mi siervo me ha engañado! Porque tu siervo había dicho: Me aparejaré el asno, y montaré en él para ir con el rey, por cuanto tu siervo es cojo.
27 Moreover he hath also accused me thy servant to thee, my lord the king: but thou my lord the king art as an angel of God, do what pleaseth thee.
Además, ha calumniado a tu siervo delante de mi señor, el rey. Pero mi señor, el rey, es como un ángel de Dios; haz lo que mejor te parezca.
28 For all of my father’s house were no better than worthy of death before my lord the king; and thou hast set me thy servant among the guests of thy table: what just complaint therefore have I? or what right to cry any more to the king?
Pues aunque todos los de la casa de mi padre no hemos merecido del rey, mi señor, sino la muerte, pusiste tú a tu siervo entre los que comen a tu mesa. ¿Qué derecho tengo yo todavía para pedir al rey cosa alguna?”
29 Then the king said to him: Why speakest thou any more? what I have said is determined: thou and Siba divide the possessions.
El rey le dijo: “¿Por qué hablas tanto de tus asuntos? Ya lo he dicho: Tú y Sibá os repartiréis las tierras.”
30 And Miphiboseth answered the king: Yea, let him take all, for as much as my lord the king is returned peaceably into his house.
Y dijo Mefibóset al rey: “Tómeselas él todas, ya que el rey, mi señor, ha vuelto en paz a su casa.”
31 Berzellai also the Galaadite coming down from Rogelim, brought the king over the Jordan, being ready also to wait on him beyond the river.
También Barzillai, el galaadita, bajó desde Rogelim, y pasó el Jordán con el rey, para escoltarlo en el paso del Jordán.
32 Now Berzellai the Galaadite was of a great age, that is to say, fourscore years old, and he provided the king with sustenance when he abode in the camp: for he was a man exceeding rich.
Era Barzillai muy anciano, tenía ya ochenta años y había abastecido al rey durante su estancia en Mahanaim, porque era hombre muy rico.
33 And the king said to Berzellai: Come with me that thou mayest rest secure with me in Jerusalem.
Dijo el rey a Barzillai: “Pasa adelante conmigo, y te sustentaré junto a mí en Jerusalén.”
34 And Berzellai said to the king: How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?
Barzillai respondió al rey: “¿Cuántos años podré vivir todavía? No vale la pena subir con el rey a Jerusalén.
35 I am this day fourscore years old, are my senses quick to discern sweet and bitter? or can meat or drink delight thy servant? or can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? why should thy servant be a burden to my lord, the king?
Tengo ahora ochenta años. ¿Puedo yo, acaso, distinguir entre lo bueno y lo malo? ¿Puede tu siervo gustar lo que come y lo que bebe? ¿O puedo oír ya la voz de cantores y de cantoras? ¿Cómo, pues, tu siervo ha de servir de carga a mi señor, el rey?
36 I thy servant will go on a little way from the Jordan with thee: I need not this recompense.
Solo un corto trecho acompañará tu siervo al rey en el Jordán. ¿Y por qué quiere el rey darme esta recompensa?
37 But I beseech thee let thy servant return, and die in my own city, and be buried by the sepulchre of my father, and of my mother. But there is thy servant Chamaam, let him go with thee, my lord, the king, and do to him whatsoever seemeth good to thee.
Permite, pues, que se vuelva tu siervo, para que muera en mi ciudad, junto al sepulcro de mi padre y de mi madre. Pero ahí tienes a tu siervo Camaam. Pase él con mi señor, el rey, y haz con él lo que bien te parezca.”
38 Then the king said to him: Let Chamaam go over with me, and I will do for him whatsoever shall please thee, and all that thou shalt ask of me, thou shalt obtain.
Respondió el rey: “¡Pase, pues, conmigo Camaam! ¡Con él haré lo que te plazca; pues te otorgaré todo cuanto me pidas!”
39 And when all the people and the king had passed over the Jordan, the king kissed Berzellai, and blessed him: and he returned to his own place.
Cuando todo el pueblo hubo cruzado el Jordán, pasó también el rey. Entonces besó el rey a Barzillai y le bendijo; y este volvió a su lugar.
40 So the king went on to Galgal, and Chamaam with him. Now all the people of Juda had brought the king over, and only half of the people of Israel were there.
El rey pasó a Gálgala, acompañándole Camaam. Todo el pueblo de Judá y la mitad del pueblo de Israel escoltaban al rey.
41 Therefore all the men of Israel running together to the king, said to him: Why have our brethren the men of Juda stolen thee away, and have brought the king and his household over the Jordan, and all the men of David with him?
Y he aquí que vinieron al rey todos los hombres de Israel y le dijeron: “¿Por qué nuestros hermanos, los hombres de Judá, te han secuestrado, pasando por el Jordán al rey y a su casa y a todos los hombres de la comitiva de David?”
42 And all the men of Juda answered the men of Israel: Because the king is nearer to me: why art thou angry for this matter? have we eaten any thing of the king’s, or have any gifts been given us?
Entonces respondieron todos los hombres de Judá a los hombres de Israel: “Es que el rey es pariente nuestro. ¿Por qué os enojáis por eso? ¿Hemos acaso comido a costa del rey? ¿Hemos recibido algo de él?”
43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Juda, and said: I have ten parts in the king more than thou, and David belongeth to me more than to thee: why hast thou done me a wrong, and why was it not told me first, that I might bring back my king? And the men of Juda answered more harshly than the men of Israel.
Replicaron los hombres de Israel a los hombres de Judá, diciendo: “Nosotros tenemos diez partes en el rey, por lo cual David nos pertenece más a nosotros que a vosotros. ¿Por qué, pues, nos habéis hecho este agravio? ¿No fue nuestra palabra la primera para traer a nuestro rey?” Y fue más dura la respuesta de los hombres de Judá que la de los hombres de Israel.
