2 Chronicles 19

1 And Josaphat king of Juda returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

Et Josaphat, roi de Juda, revint sain et sauf dans son palais à Jérusalem.

2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer met him, and said to him: Thou helpest the ungodly, and thou art joined in friendship with them that hate the Lord, and therefore thou didst deserve indeed the wrath of the Lord:

Alors se présenta devant lui Jéhu, fils de Hanani, le Voyant, et il dit au roi Josaphat: Faut-il être l'auxiliaire de l'impie? et aimes-tu les ennemis de l'Éternel? et pour cela tu es un objet de colère de la part de l'Éternel,

3 But good works are found in thee, because thou hast taken away the groves out of the land of Juda, and hast prepared thy heart to seek the Lord the God of thy fathers.

cependant il s'est trouvé chez toi des actions bonnes, puisque tu as exterminé du pays les Astartés, et que tu as appliqué ton cœur à la recherche de Dieu.

4 And Josaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again to the people from Bersabee to mount Ephraim, and brought them back to the Lord the God of their fathers.

Et Josaphat resta à Jérusalem. Et de nouveau il fit une tournée parmi le peuple, de Béerséba à la montagne d'Éphraïm; et il les ramenait à l'Éternel, Dieu de leurs pères.

5 And he set judges of the land in all the fenced cities of Juda, in every place.

Et il établit des juges dans le pays, dans toutes les villes de Juda, places fortes, de ville en ville.

6 And charging the judges, he said: Take heed what you do: for you exercise not the judgment of man, but of the Lord: and whatsoever you judge, it shall redound to you.

Et il dit aux Juges: Veillez à ce que vous ferez, car ce n'est pas pour l'homme que vous jugez, mais pour l'Éternel; et Il est près de vous dans l'affaire à juger.

7 Let the fear of the Lord be with you, and do all things with diligence: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, a nor respect of persons, nor desire of gifts.

Maintenant donc soyez sous la crainte de l'Éternel, prenez garde à vos actes, car chez l'Éternel, notre Dieu, il n'y a ni iniquité, ni partialité, ni acceptation de présents.

8 In Jerusalem also Josaphat appointed Levites, and priests and chiefs of the families of Israel, to judge the judgment and the cause of the Lord for the inhabitants thereof.

Et à Jérusalem aussi Josaphat établit des Lévites et des Prêtres et des chefs de maisons patriarcales en Israël, pour la judicature de l'Éternel et pour les procès; et ils étaient revenus à Jérusalem.

9 And he charged them, saying: Thus shall you do in the fear of the Lord faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

Et il leur donna ses ordres en ces termes: Ainsi devez-vous agir dans la crainte de l'Éternel avec bonne foi et un cœur intègre,

10 Every cause that shall come to you of your brethren, that dwell in their cities, between kindred and kindred, wheresoever there is question concerning the law, the commandment, the ceremonies, the justifications: shew it them, that they may not sin against the Lord, and that wrath may not come upon you and your brethren: and so doing you shall not sin.

et quelle que soit la cause portée devant vous de la part de vos frères habitant vos villes, qu'il s'agisse de question de sang, de Loi, de commandement, de statuts et d'arrêts, éclairez-les, afin qu'ils ne se rendent pas coupables envers l'Éternel, et que vous ne deveniez pas les objets de sa colère, vous et vos frères; ainsi faites et n'assumez pas de culpabilité.

11 And Amarias the priest your high priest shell be chief in the things which regard God: and Zabadias the son of Ismahel, who is ruler in the house of Juda, shall be over those matters which belong to the king’s office: and you have before you the Levites for masters, take courage and do diligently, and the Lord will be with you in good things.

Et voici, Amaria, le Grand-Prêtre, est préposé sur vous pour toutes les affaires de l'Éternel, et Zebadia, fils d'Ismaël, prince, de la maison de Juda pour toutes les affaires du roi; et vous avez devant vous des Secrétaires et des Lévites; fortifiez-vous et agissez, et que l'Éternel soit avec l'homme de bien!
